I am glad to see the deck in downtown Stehekin. My crew built that in the summer of 1980.Our camp was at the old Peterson Golf course. Y.A.C.C. from Sedro Woolley. I worked at apple orchard and Buckner farm. I thank the Casey and Courtney family. They were kids. The book Meet Him in the Wildness was written there. I shall never forget this bless place.
What great words, James! Glad the video brought back some fond memories. Must have been wonderful times for you! And thanks for the work you did that made our time there so enjoyable!
Upper Lake Chelan compares to the beautiful Bavarian Koenigssee... but no brewery next to a Cathedral. I've been to the Koenigssee just once... it was a stunning. The beer was very good at the brewery. I've been to Stehekin many many times. Really don't miss out on the cheesy bread at the bakery. Rainbow Falls is worth seeing & I've stopped by many times (you can visit by bike from Stehekin). Mosquitos starting in the early evenings can be an issue certain times of the year. That far uplake the water is quite cold. Best to visit in Sept. & early Oct. VERY tranquil with far fewer tourists. Rent a car and go up river at 5 mph. So relaxing. Winters are harsh. One of the most beautiful places on Earth. Shockingly... 3rd deepest lake in the US with crystal clear water.
I loved that bakery. Mmm mmm good. My son worked the parks. Stehekin comp me 7 days. Nice big rooms and huge windows. I caught huge trout there and it was on the menu in the for dinner.the fairy ride was most enjoyable . thanks for the post. Memories are all we take with us so make them GREAT.
What a great trip with your daughter ❤️. My daughter worked for the lodge and her boyfriend worked for the general store for the 2019 season. ❤️👍😎. I'm planning a PCT thru hike starting spring of 2023 so I'll be stopping in Stehekin for my final resupply. Only 80 trail miles to the Canadian border
Went here 32 years ago for our honeymoon. Really wonderful place. We stayed at the bed and breakfast at the end of the lake. The person in charge found out it was our honeymoon and immediately put us in the best suite and let us use the bikes for free. Went canoeing at sunset, and waited in the reeds until the stars came out. Magical.
I've had the privilege of visiting Stehekin three times over the last 5 years. We're from Washington and take family vacations in summer bringing in our ski boat from Snohomish over Steven's pass to lake Chelan. We then make the 50 mile journey up the lake for the day. I'm looking forward to going back this summer! Lake Chelan is one if not my favorite place in my home state.
My wife and I always enjoy watching your videos! It is great to see the different places and love the family values. We just couldn't help but notice that you didn't take a fast dip in the water up there :) lol
So wonderful to hear, Shawn... glad the clean/family values come through! And great observation... need to begin living back up to the "we always jump in the water" reputation! lol!
What a beautiful father-daughter bond! I absolutely love watching your videos, they are such an inspiration and encourage me to get out more and explore this beautiful country. If you are this good at your “side-gig”, I can only imagine how great you are at your “real-gig” - I live in Chicago but I hope to see you in Jersey on a Sunday in the future, stay blessed and keep inspiring! Here’s wishing you an amazing 2022!
Hey Ashwin, loved the comment!! Really encouraged to read that! Grew up in the Chicago area (Downers Grove South-83). Hope you get out to the church in NJ. Keep up your great work in serving King Jesus!
Randy, Wow - a special day for Natalie! With a steak dinner at Stehekin. One place we have not been to in our home state, and you are showing us a great tour! early June looks like a very good time to visit, we will remember that. Some amazing views and wildflowers in your video. THANK YOU FOR TAKING US ON AN AMAZING RIDE, . . . Mike
Hey Mike, highly recommended! The ideal stay would be a couple nights in the lodge. Not overly crowded when we were there. Think things really start to pick up in June.
What a peaceful looking place. The big national parks are truly amazing, but these places that avoid the big crowds may be even more enjoyable in my opinion. Always fun to find remote areas where things still work on the honor system and a handshake. Those places are few and far between! As always, the video was amazing and inspiring!
I work here in Stehekin, and sadly, everyone is starting to drop the honor system, because petty stealing is starting to become common. I've seen people take things off the shelf and walk off.
Best video of the bunch! Watched from Moab. I can’t believe I drove here from Indiana. My daughter is not enjoying it very much though, she seems in a better mood after she talked to Grandma on the phone and she said she would probably like Zion and Bryce better than Canyonlands. Oh, well Gabe and I thought it was gorgeous. Really impressive and underrated. I think Samantha enjoyed the Rockies more than she let on, and prefers the green scenery and not so much the desert. I just looked over and Sam and said maybe next trip we need to go to Washington State... looks like what she is describing as her likes. She smiled. I get it though, as I prefer forests, waterfalls, streams, mountains. I am still amazed at the little I’ve seen of Utah so far and am blessed to see it in my lifetime. I keep telling the kids...at the end of my life... one of the things they will remember is this crazy cross country trip by car. Something I always wanted to do due to Chevy Chase anyway :) Oh yeah driving from the Rockies to Moab is like the longest scenic drive I’ve ever seen in my life. Just wow.
Wow Randy and Natalie! Joyce and I have a Natalie too. This trip was amazing, I about had tears in my eyes with this one so beautiful so perfect. The one room school house got me. Seeing the pictures of the kids and teacher. What a commitment to those kids. What love that someone would have incredible. Yes, this one is a place we will have to go to. You made it appear to be magical😉
Really incredible! Of all my adventures in the NP's and interactions I have enjoyed with others, I have never met anyone with the vast amount and knowledge and joy for these special gems!
Thank you Randy and Natalie, I really enjoyed this spectacular Lake Chelan video. It's amazing how the businesses use the honor system to sell their products. God Bless you both for all the enjoyment you bring your subscribers... Robin
Another amazing video thank you for sharing such a beautiful place by the way my wife and I lost it when Nathalie said “you should’ve done your research dad” 😂
Much appreciated! Have to limit the drone to outside the NP's. Some of the footage was shot with a 360 camera that gets some pretty amazing aerial effects.
It's great seeing Natalie get back out there with you! She's really coming out of her shell from previous videos. My daughter enjoys watching your videos with me and they partly inspired our recent trip to the Grand Canyon. Keep up the good work, Randy!
Hey Jody, thanks for your kind words! Natalie is probably my most quiet daughter... only to be challenged with a camera shoved in your face. lol! Happy for the lady she is becoming. Glad to hear about your time with your daughter at the Grand Canyon! All the best to you guys!
Hey Randy and Natalie, Just watched your last 4 videos and really enjoyed them.....We just got back from a 3 week road trip to Teddy Roosevelt NP, Devil's Tower, Glacier, Yellowstone, and Grand Tetons NP totalling 5300 miles!!!! We were with our Son's Family and four other Families....so am catching up on your videos....Nice to see Natalie again...she adds alot.....Anyway, just saw the Olympic, Mt St Helens, Mt Rainier, and this one on Stehekin...The Mt St Helens one with the snow was something from National Geographic!!!! All very well done...All the best to you and Natalie from Hank and Pam of South Texas...
Hey Hank and Pam... what an epic trip! Glad to hear you came back safely and made many lasting memories with your family! 5,300 miles - wow! Appreciate the kind words! Have a blessed weekend!
Awesome boat trip and a great 'Way Through'. Just as well you had that trolley for your luggage to get to the campsite. Loved the honour system and in the UK we have a similar 'Honesty Box', which I love. The bikes were a great way of getting around and what an awesome sight Rainbow Falls was, totally cool! Lake Chelan was stunning and with a view like that I think my bike would have got home real late! Got to say I would be real happy with that streak as well, very well needed after all that bike riding mind and washed down with a super ice cream. Day 2 shuttle bus looked a real cool trip and what a way to enjoy those stunning views. What a great couple of days away with your daughter, cheers Alan
You must forgive me Pastor Randy, but I am now officially envious. As you know from previous comments we love Washington and have been blessed to see and experience much of it, but this is an adventure we did not fit in...now I have to figure out how to fit it in to our next NW trip. All of it looks incredible (supper included). Thank you so much for opening my eyes to this area.
nice waterfall, love the orchard and wow what a lake! bicycling must be a fun way to get around. nice flower shots too looks like a great time thanks for taking us with you
Another great video Randy! Appreciate your family and your sense of adventure and this one looks like a really neat trip that'll have to do soon. God bless!
$219 for a night? Wet tent it is. It's not fun, but you still have $219 in your pocket. At least you was able to eat food there. I hope to explore Washington soon. I want to go back to the San Juan islands there. It's was awesome time, especially seeing orcas in the ocean.
Hello America's Park's😊😊😊, Randy and Natalie! First of all...WOW!! What a SPECTACULAR lake and the boat ride was AWESOME, and being able to hike right to the back end of North Cascades National Park must have a real treat and a gem. Oh...and that massive waterfall was absolutely SPECTACULAR!! I absolutely love waterfalls, and speaking of waterfalls I would to see you and Natalie to explore the Columbia River Gorge and take in the many waterfalls along the historic Columbia River Highway. Randy, this was an amazing video👍👍👍👍👍!
Wow! You caught me completely off guard with this place on several fronts. First, I was completely unaware of this place. Second, this place looked magical and so tranquil. I could easily imagine spending a couple days here just relaxing and exploring. This was a really nice video of your time at Stehekin. You gave us viewers at great glimpse of what the area has to offer. Love the humor about the “four mile” hike to the campsite, it hits really close to home. I am always picking walk-in campsites or stretching the truth a little on how long or hard hikes may be. The family is not always so appreciative, though. Our running joke is that it is just “a third of mile and around the bend”.
This one sure looks like a great corner of the Country. Definitely putting it on the list. Thank you for your videos. I get to see so many great places I will probably never be able to go.
Wow what a great place to just get away and be engulfed in nature like that. I've never heard of this place but I'm glad you were able to show it to us. The steak look totally amazing I must say LOL. Thanks for sharing another National Park adventure with all of us. Have a blessed weekend.
@@AmericasParks Hey Randy, Due to your video, our family including our grandkids will be visiting Stehekin in mid-July for three days. We're cheating and staying at the lodge. I am sending this video to our 9 year old granddaughter and 6 year old grandson so that they will look forward to the trip. Our grandkids like visiting national parks such as Glacier NP that we visited last summer for a week.
This is absolutely fabulous! Thank you for sharing. Do you ever share your trip itineraries? I would love to see how you scheduled the entire trip to Washington State!
Hey Carol, I often share the itineraries if people request it, but they are at times not as organized as one might assume. :) americasparks1@gmail.com I did include our entire itinerary in the description of all the Blue Ridge Parkway videos. May have found that quite helpful.
@@AmericasParks Our route were mostly out over the hot thermally eastern plains, it was it's own kind of special but the much forests looked awesome, I hope they fair well with all the fires in that part of the country, and that crazy heat wave. . . .
I've never heard of this place, such an interesting and wonderful corner of the country. I also think you're getting more creative with your video editing Randy, I like it.
Oh man, what a fabulous place! I love all of the honor system things. Wow. I was just looking at this lake in our atlas for camping ideas! Good on you for tenting it 👍
Great video as usual. Just a thought.... can you do a video about those small towns that you enjoyed the most that are gateways to the National Parks? Thanks
Hey Jymn... what an incredible line-up! I really hope you guys are blessed with a safe and very enjoyable trip. You'll be making so many memories with your wonderful family, my friend! Hope to get Cascades and Lake Ross up next ..and good call on Stehekin!
Wow! The drone footage really shows the scale of the mountains and especially the waterfall. I hope to get to the 3 national parks in WA some day (keep visiting the Eastern side as my bestie lives there). Will definitely add this to my list of must sees.
Hope you can get other there, Renee! Actually the only drone footage was outside the NP at the beginning. I was able to get the waterfall shots with my new 360 camera on a 10 foot selfie-stick. Amazing what that thing can accomplish!
Such a beautiful area with a great variety of adventures to enjoy. I will research optimal seasons to visit the area. Being so remote, I wonder if things tend to close down during the Fall/Winter months. Thanks for opening our eyes and thoughts to this place!
Too beautiful my state ❤ but I never hike to stehekin very nice video 😘. Came back and edited my comment - fabulous drone capture loved it. What do you recommend
Randy, I've just returned from an exhausting trip over to Wikipedia, regarding the challenge to see if I could help your term "Native American" to be more specific re. the source of the town's name--Stehekin. After about 15 min., I came up with the following: in the Salishan language family, there are 23 languages in SW British Columbia and NW Washington, the majority of which are in Canada. In the Interior Salish (SAIL-ish) group, there is a tribe called Chelan, which was historically in that area. So, that's a pretty good guess as the source of the name. No charge! LOL
I'm planning a possible trip, using your itinerary for guidance. I'm guessing you drove from Rainer and camped in Chelan for the night before boarding the ferry? You have a campground you recommend there, I see they have a State Park. Thank you, this looks great.
Excellent, Peter! Yes, from Rainier we camped at Lake Chelan State Park, site #144 before boarding the ferry. When we returned to Chelan, we drove over to North Cascaded NP - Newhalem Campground (great site at 116, Loop C). Stehekin was great! Enjoy!
I don't believe there was any service. Found this on the Internet: "You will be out of range of any cell phone service. There is a community satellite pay phone located near the boat dock if you would like to call out of the valley. A calling card (available at the General Store) is required to make a call on this phone." Enjoy!
After watching your videos, I know your biggest fear: Answering your doorbell to the drone police. The solution is you'll have to make them watch your videos and pinpoint your 'outside national park' drone notations.
So right on, Mark!!!! On a previous video one guy commented w/o paying any attention to these notations and a lady refused to believe the other shots were from a 360 camera with a 10 foot selfie-stick. Still guilty w/o breaking any rules! lol!
I am glad to see the deck in downtown Stehekin. My crew built that in the summer of 1980.Our camp was at the old Peterson Golf course. Y.A.C.C. from Sedro Woolley. Great comment David! Happy to hear of your wonderful experience at Stehekin!
The real hidden gems are in the valleys, Holden village, little lakes and mountains in that huge area
I've been to Stehekin twice but both were quite a while ago. I really have to get back once more. Absolutely a very special place. Unique in the USA.
So true! Loved it there and happy to hear you have experienced this beautiful gem!
Incredible place to visit, hike, backpack. We've visited numerous times, never gets old. Spend a week, you'll love it!

Don't do the one day ferry trip. Go stay the night or two days.
It is a long ride.
Lake is over 1100 feet deep. Ferry is crowded in good weather.
Amazing video! I love that there are still places that have the Honor System. So cool!
Good words... need to see so many people comment on the "honor system"... surely says something!

Really blessed by your very kind words! Thank you!

This is where we are going locally this year.
Up da river. The big Kahuna is walking from here to Glacier Peak.

Your comment made me laugh, Tito! I'm used to that treatment raising three daughters! lol! Thanks and take care!
Liking the addition of the drone. Well done.
Much appreciated! Have to limit the drone to outside the NP's. Some of the footage was shot with a 360 camera that gets some pretty amazing aerial effects.
Natalie is sooooo beautiful! I always love the work you put into these videos, Randy! Love to watch :)
Your words are so kind, Kaitlin! Thank so much!
Wonderful!!!!! Planning to visit with my hubby this spring
So many wonderful memories after that 2-day stay with my daughter. Hope both of you have a fantastic time!
Very nice video! Washington is an amazing state.
Right on! Hopefully two more videos from this trip. Already looking forward to returning.
This is definitely one of my favorite videos of yours. I’ve never been to Washington but I would love to. It seems so beautiful
Loved the kind feedback! Hope you can visit this wonderful state!

Thank you... and yes, never take these blessing for granted! :) Have a nice weekend!
Hahaha, those are massive cinnamon rolls, lol. Interesting facts about the lake - didn't realize they would be deeper than the great lakes!
Hey Josh, really an amazing place... almost as amazing as the cinnamon rolls! :)

Thanks so much for watching!
I have been here high bridge is really good for fishing
Thanks, Theo! This was such a special place!

Happy to hear how the videos have inspired you, Joseph! All the best to you!
Going camping next month and this made me even more excited to go!! Amazing video.
Have a great trip, Hope!

Thanks for watching, Shelly!
I love and enjoy your videos. Keep up the good work.
Really thankful for your kind words!
Nice, I used to fly paraglider competitions there, beautiful! I wish I had toured around more on weather days. . . looks great!
Must be something else from the sky! Really special place, Karl!
@@AmericasParks Our route were mostly out over the hot thermally eastern plains, it was it's own kind of special but the much forests looked awesome, I hope they fair well with all the fires in that part of the country, and that crazy heat wave. . . .
Loveeee Chelan! My husbands relatives have a house there. Absolutely gorgeous.
Great to hear you've often experienced this gem, Robin!
I've never heard of this place, such an interesting and wonderful corner of the country.
I also think you're getting more creative with your video editing Randy, I like it.
Thankful for your kind and encouraging feedback, Mike! Enjoy your weekend!
Thanks for taking me in this wonderful tour, my friend. So beautiful place. Have you ever been to Vietnam? Welcome you to Vietnam soon
No, have never been to your fine country. My cousin goes there often to help children and loves it. Appreciate your warm hospitality!
Oh man, what a fabulous place! I love all of the honor system things. Wow. I was just looking at this lake in our atlas for camping ideas! Good on you for tenting it 👍
Thanks, Heather! Hope you and Jim can get up to Washington. Such a beautiful state!
Great video as usual. Just a thought.... can you do a video about those small towns that you enjoyed the most that are gateways to the National Parks? Thanks
Nice idea, Jay! Will have to keep that one in mind!
I built that dock in Chelan, boat co. Ronald, hi guys!
Thanks for your service! Amazing place!
Well this video couldn't have come at a more perfect time my friend
Hey Jymn... what an incredible line-up! I really hope you guys are blessed with a safe and very enjoyable trip. You'll be making so many memories with your wonderful family, my friend! Hope to get Cascades and Lake Ross up next ..and good call on Stehekin!
@@AmericasParks Thanks Randy
So beautiful!
Thanks for watching, Carol!
So cool 😎
Thanks so much, Jen!
@@AmericasParks Oh, that is super cool. The shots with it looked fantastic.
Such a beautiful area with a great variety of adventures to enjoy. I will research optimal seasons to visit the area. Being so remote, I wonder if things tend to close down during the Fall/Winter months. Thanks for opening our eyes and thoughts to this place!
Great to hear, Jim! When we were up there in late June, it was just gearing up for the season. Must be gorgeous in the fall!
Very nice video thank u for showing me a buetiful place
Appreciate your kind words, Adam!
Too beautiful my state ❤ but I never hike to stehekin very nice video 😘. Came back and edited my comment - fabulous drone capture loved it. What do you recommend
You live in a beautiful state! Hope you can make a visit to Stehekin! Highly recommended!
Spectacular😃
Thanks for joining us, Mark!
Spectacular!! 💕
Appreciate that, Wendy!
No charge! LOL
I'll take the gift! Great research, my friend!
Enjoy!
How long (miles) round trip was your bike ride?
I'd say we did about 5 miles on the bikes that day, round trip. Special place!
Did your cell phones work here ?
I don't believe there was any service. Found this on the Internet: "You will be out of range of any cell phone service. There is a community satellite pay phone located near the boat dock if you would like to call out of the valley. A calling card (available at the General Store) is required to make a call on this phone." Enjoy!
Stehekin is over 50 miles away from cell service. Satellite internet is about the only connection available, and even then, it isn't good.
👍😍
Thanks! :)
Still guilty w/o breaking any rules! lol!
