videos on emergency situations would be good to see. what do to when you see a bear, or threatening wild life, cleaning a cut on trail, how to stay warm in rainy conditions etc. have fun!
I don't want to be rude, but if you do not already know & fully understand the rules of bear safety, DO NOT GO BACKPACKING YET! A lot of backpacking videos avoid certain topics, because this is not a beginner activity, day hiking a developed path is. Before you spend a day or a night in the wild, as a car camper even, you must know your safety rules & techniques. Good news, lots of hiking TH-camrs have created such content. I think the bulk of the backpacking community already knows those things, as you learn most safety protocols when you take up day hiking or as you grow up. I also have a feeling REI has legal concerns about posting bear safety techniques other than how to use bear spray, since unfortunately, most other safety maneuvers are hit or miss. Prevention (store all your smelly stuff - food or other products with any scent - SECURELY) is a strong message in her videos for a reason. Good luck to those of you just getting started - you've got a really beautiful life of adventure ahead!
Hey Miranda! I’d love to see you planning a trip from start to finish. Like planning the list of things you need, to purchasing the new gear, to planning the shuttle if needed, to seeking places to camp on a backpacking trail,to picking up passes, and just tips in general along the way, it’s all rather complicated! Lol
Because I’m a procrastinator when it comes to getting out of camp there are a couple of habits I stick to. Before I get out of the tent in the morning ( no matter how bad I have to pee) I pack up everything in the tent. Then I pack up the tent while I’m heating water for coffee. By the time I eat breakfast I’m 90% packed. It really helps me get out of camp quicker.
That tick brought out Miranda's dark side! I get it though. I remember (at my first Boy Scout Jamboree many years ago) seeing tortoises around the lake that were badly infested with them. Some of the ticks were several inches across they were so bloated. YUCK. You keep fighting the good anti-tick fight, Miranda!!
Watching this video after knowing that Nala has crossed the rainbow bridge is bittersweet. I really hope that Miranda soon finds a new hiking pal. In the meantime, I'm really enjoying seeing lil Nala bear hiking with her beloved human.
I have NEVER actually watched a Facebook ad, nor do I like camping/hiking, but once yours started playing I just found it so interesting and entertaining. So much so that I searched to see if you had your own channel. Now I look forward to watching more outdoorsy doings from the comfort of my favorite reading chair. 😊 I'll also be sharing this with my kids, all adults, who absolutely love the outdoors. Middle and his girlfriend son are currently camping and hiking in Yellowstone.
I also hike with my dog. He loves it. One thing I have learned while hiking with my dog is that his claws can poke holes in both the bottom of the tent and the inflatable sleeping pad. This can make for a long uncomfortable nights. My daughter came up with a great idea for preventing this from happening. She suggested I put booties on my dog every night before we go into the tent. I tried it and it work great! No more waking up cold and stiff on a flat mattress at 1:00 AM.
I have that exact same pillow, a pillow trick I read was to slip a t-shirt over the top of your air mattress, and put the pillow in there to keep it in place while you sleep, I haven't tried it yet but seems like a good tip.
Great video. Being that I just started hiking last year, I’ve learned a lot from the REI channel and website. Please continue to provide more videos about backpacking, day hiking, and rock climbing/rappelling.
I only hike in trail runners, take calf compression socks for the evenings at camp and that really helps! Also, a tennis ball or smooth stick for rolling the bottoms of your feet! I really liked this video, do more please!
I love watching your videos . Their is so much information in them and oddly enough they are relaxing to watch. Thank You for the enjoyment & knowledge.
I really enjoyed this vid. I liked seeing the products and your comments on them from the use of those products. Thanks for taking us on this trip. The views were amazing.
Stehekin is amazing! I spent 6 months living there as a kayak guide in 2015 and it was the best experience! The community is incredible and you can't beat the recreation opportunities. Glad you had a great time!
Thanks for hiking with Nala . Will check out that Ruff Wear dog sleeping bag...though I’m sure my Catahoula dog will get up after I have fallen asleep and attempt getting in the bag with me. Knowing how you punctured the filter bag will help me to avoid the same mistake.
Oh my god, the finding the tick! Never in my life have I been more angry/panicked with my dog when I had already checked her for ticks after a day hike and later found one beneath her ear! Love this video, would love to see one on gear for dogs, recommendations and such :)
I have the same sleeping bag and pillow and I can confirm the pillow pocket in the bag is a game changer. You could even just stuff it with a coat or anything. Having it stay in place all night is next level. Seeing the tick removal really took me back to when my family moved to a house with a yard that was infested with ticks. By the time we noticed them on our pup (two or three days, moving is hectic) I removed maybe 20 ticks in one sitting. It took a week before she would come to me when I called. 😔 We did tick treatments on her for a few months, now we just keep up with spraying the yard for ticks every so often. We fortunately haven’t had a recurrence since then. The only silver lining is I’m now a semi-pro at tick checks and removal.
Hi from Oz Miranda an Narla,I can only wish our trails had beautiful scenery as the States, from beautiful pines to snow, its amazing to watch. We also have beautiful but very different down under.Love watching you hike and your know how's.Happy trails.Buuuuuurp!
Thanks Miranda. Great content. As someone getting back into backpacking I like the way you create content that is informative, and easy to consume. Thanks for putting the effort into creating great content. More day in the life content please.
This brings back memories! My wife and I took the ferry to Stehekin in July of 2021. And spent two nights. I loved Rainbow Falls. I took a lot of photos.
Bathrooms with flush toilets on trail.....pure luxury! Just completed 18 mile Wildcat Hollow trail at Wayne National Forest in Ohio. Overgrown with briars, literally over my head in some places. My Flash 55 backpack held up like a champ thru all the nasty sticker bushes clawing at me all day (maybe that’s why it’s named “Wildcat Hollow”?😼). No tears or snags anywhere! Love that pack💕💕
... Awesome video,, love seeing the dogs that think it's only right that they get to wear a backpack too ...Beautiful location and overall scenery ,, good gear choices .. only thing I would have to add is evening fishing and an evening and/or morning swim ,, nothing more invigorating to get the day started .... on trail for the destinations activities ,, not chasing miles .... Agree , in the cooler times , dry sleep socks can make the night SO much better,, and if too cold ,, down booties over them ... Also on hard ground ,even with a good pad, putting your backpack under your knees , relieves lower back muscles for better body recoop.... Way overdue for an outing ,, but soon ....hopefully ..
The dog carries it's own stuff! I love that! Right before you were putting on the dog backpack I was like...if only the dog could shoulder some of the load...and shazam, dog backpack! What a time to be alive.
Very cool!! Thanks Miranda and crew for showing us this very real, “in the wild” view of your backpacking trip!! Really liked to see your problem solving skills and tools! Cheers. More please!!
The Nemo Disco is wonderful! I hate normal mummy bags because my legs always feel trapped but the disco made it so I slept so well and didn't feel claustrophobic in my bag.
Loved the video! My wife and I use a Nemo Dagger 2P and LOVE it! I absolutely love the fact that it's not a tapered floor so you can't mess up the orientation of the rain fly. Also love ALL that headroom and huge vestibules. The ONLY gripe I have with it at all (compared to the Quarter Dome 2 we had before) is the air vents are on the vestibules so you have to unzip the door in order to open them, but the Quarter Dome made it so easy by having the vent at the top. It's a minor detail and overall it's an amazing tent.
Your little walk through the woods reminds me when myself, my brother in law and nephew hiked 5 days up kings canyon. I’m an east coast boy and spent most of the trip with my mouth hanging open say wow over and over. I know they had a bad fire out there this year and hope the all the big ass trees survived because it was truly magical. Plus your black bears are WAY BIGGER than our puppy size blackies back east.
Years ago when I was backpacking through western Europe I was just outside Barcelona hiking in the foothills of Mount Tibidabo, I was at the end of this path and I came to a clearing, there was a very secluded lake and there were tall trees all , the end
You know, it would be cool to have a geologist travel with y’all (like me 😊) and explain the geologic history, you know, for science and fun 😊 we use a lot of your equipment to keep us safe and comfortable while we are mapping the wilderness.
I don’t know if ticks can feel pain, but if they can, I hope the end was painful for that tick. I love Nala so much! 🥺 Your distress at her having the tick was palpable. She has such a good mommy. 💛
I can't wait for autumn. NJ isn't too hot in summer but it's too hot for me. The autumns here are perfect hiking weather. That's my plan, get the bulk of my work done this summer and coast through fall and hike a bunch
This is my favorite type of video. Thank you. I would love to see you do the bear bag (you probably already did one, but I haven't gotten to it yet). I would also like to see one of your wettest hikes. Rain and hiking intrigue me.
This was a treat. Nala looks so much like my dog Charlie! We're still in total lock down here in Ontario so I'm itching to get out and have some fun. Thank you for the video.
For ticks on dogs, my vet recommended doing double protection because I spend so much time outside. So he's on brevecto and a seresto collar. While I still find ticks on him on occasion they're dead and come off easily.
Might I suggest boiling water as soon as you arrive to camp and starting the rehydration process of your meal? Then, go set up tent and sleep system which takes about the amount of time needed. Voila! Thanks for the fun video! Looks like a "luxury" backpacking experience! Next time, go into the wilderness and show how to choose less than ideal tent spots, and handling dirt and potty without a facility. Also, where you hide your bear canister, how far away, etc. Thanks!
Love love love this video Miranda and crew! Did a handful of trips like this with my last husky, Kaiya. Sadly she passed two years ago but the memories we made on these types of adventures always make me smile. I have a new husky now, also named Nahla, and I’m looking forward to hitting the trails with her soon. Kudos to your Nala for being so good on trail and at camp! Nahlas make the best Adventure dogs! 😉
Camera Chelsea , needs to get one of them Gimbals with stabalizer...lol I hear there are alot of failures with these befree katadyn filters in the field...not your fault. I bought 2 of them...and they both failed...never again...back to the sawyer mini and lifestraw for me. Miranda, your hienergy takes getting use to...but damn..your Fun to watch!! 7:36 ...Web master...Self elected leader, Trail bull... first person on trail...clears all the spider webs..LOL 16:46...we call that "Trail Spice" (a little dirt, leaves , bark etc..in the cook water)
videos on emergency situations would be good to see. what do to when you see a bear, or threatening wild life, cleaning a cut on trail, how to stay warm in rainy conditions etc. have fun!
good questions :D im curious too as im gonna go for the first time soon.
Could probably do the other things too
Agreed

Q
As a new hiker, I feel validated by the fact that Miranda, a much more experienced hiker/backpacker, also hates the uphill parts 😂
My favorite trails are downhill both ways. - Miranda
I feel like I'm getting stronger on the uphill parts. On the downhills, I feel like I'm beating my body up. Neverending knee damage.
@@hillwalk24 trekking poles really help on the downhill for me
You’ll know you’re broken when you start trail running.
Nobody likes uphill.
Woooh! More please! Lots of jokes and laughing is the best, with sprinkles of yummy tips and tricks! Cheers!
For a short moment I read. Tips and ticks...
But I agree. More of this please.
I loved this blog type. I would really love to see one for the day of. Like packing, parking, starting. Day 1 is always the most daunting to me.
We are doing something similar on our channel so feel free to check it out :)

"This is my show, gosh darn"! That is brilliant. I'm serious. That will make people never forget you. Even if they don't remember specific videos.

I’ve done this with my polar fleece jumper and I was perfect on a freezing night. So snuggly and the pillow didn’t slip once.
Great video. Being that I just started hiking last year, I’ve learned a lot from the REI channel and website. Please continue to provide more videos about backpacking, day hiking, and rock climbing/rappelling.

There is no greater beauty or charm than what we can find in your video.....thanks for sharing!!!!!!!!
I love watching your videos . Their is so much information in them and oddly enough they are relaxing to watch. Thank You for the enjoyment & knowledge.
I just fell in love with your sweet dog.
I really enjoyed this vid. I liked seeing the products and your comments on them from the use of those products. Thanks for taking us on this trip. The views were amazing.

I like to bring miso soup for waiting for your meal to rehydrate. It’s so hard to wait, but something savory to sip on helps!
I felt so bad for Nala, but the way you dispatched that tick right on trail ❤️ You are a great dog mom.
The views are absolutely amazing and lots of laughs too. That sleeping pad is awesome, best I've ever had.
Nemo dagger 2p = my favorite backpacking tent. Nemo in general is just an awesome company.
Oh my god, the finding the tick! Never in my life have I been more angry/panicked with my dog when I had already checked her for ticks after a day hike and later found one beneath her ear! Love this video, would love to see one on gear for dogs, recommendations and such :)
turning my tent upside down and shaking it out is my favourite part too! lol.
I have the same sleeping bag and pillow and I can confirm the pillow pocket in the bag is a game changer. You could even just stuff it with a coat or anything. Having it stay in place all night is next level.

Miranda in the wild videos bring me life!! ♥️ much love to Nala ♥️
Great video start to finish. Love seeing you hike with the dog too. Nala is a gem. Thanks! More more.
I love seeing you doing backpack video’s. I appreciate you telling all about the equipment!

Cool!
Thanks Miranda. Great content. As someone getting back into backpacking I like the way you create content that is informative, and easy to consume. Thanks for putting the effort into creating great content. More day in the life content please.
From an opera singing backpacker, I loved the joke about the acoustics in the bathroom haha! Also WOW campsite restrooms is a LUXURY!
How awesome. Appreciate you sharing your experience.
We are doing something similar on our channel so feel free to check it out :)
GREAT video! Thanks for taking us along for the hike!
This brings back memories! My wife and I took the ferry to Stehekin in July of 2021. And spent two nights. I loved Rainbow Falls. I took a lot of photos.
Really enjoyed your backpack trip, the views are spectacular too 👍😃
Awesome video. Great to just see a hike, your setup and tear down, the companion set up, well mannered dog. Very nice.
Bathrooms with flush toilets on trail.....pure luxury! Just completed 18 mile Wildcat Hollow trail at Wayne National Forest in Ohio. Overgrown with briars, literally over my head in some places. Lovely video Miranda! I agree about hiking to a nice campsite with facilities!
Nala is such a good dog.
Agreed. I wish my outdoorsy cat was half as well behaved!
I love the special socks! I do the same but call them sacred sock 😂
Good morning we're all alone "what are you doing??" Lol great channel and funny.

The dog carries it's own stuff! I love that! Right before you were putting on the dog backpack I was like...if only the dog could shoulder some of the load...and shazam, dog backpack! What a time to be alive.
Great video
putting on comfy clean sleep socks is the best
We agree! 👍
Haha this is my favorite vid with her so far. Love the realness and the jokes.
Agreed. She’s so honest and real. Even in the videos where she is showing us products. Sometimes she admits she has never used them!
Poor Nala! And dang Miranda you are jacked 💪
Love seeing your dog with you!
I love everything about Miranda! She needs her own TH-cam channel! ❤️
She does have one! Called miranda in the wild you should definitely check it out!
th-cam.com/channels/GEDbg1EKT7HCqbT7OAsLKA.html
Great job. The zero drop shoes are not what I prefer for long hikes. Hot soup is so rewarding on a cool evening.
YAY!! Another great video guys, I recommend the Katadyn Pocket water filter, bomb proof!! 🤙🏼

Thanks for bringing us along on such a cool and beautiful adventure ❤️ I am hoping to try backpacking this year, so this was super helpful 🙏
Great job, once again, Miranda and crew. This is so timely, too! I’m headed out on the Chelan Lakeshore Trail in about two weeks! Can’t wait.
You're going to love it!! Have a great time! - Miranda
Love that you bought Oofos! They are like little clouds on your feet! Well worth the expense.
Yay! I like the trip videos. ❤️Nala
Yay! Me too! - Miranda
Did Chelsea the videographer record her PCT hike by chance?
Thanks for brightening my day with your backpacking journey. Half expecting cocktail hour on the trail! 😉
Years ago when I was backpacking through western Europe I was just outside Barcelona hiking in the foothills of Mount Tibidabo, I was at the end of this path and I came to a clearing, there was a very secluded lake and there were tall trees all , the end
Nala is adorable! ❤️ 🏔 🥾

You are just a delight. Love your videos.
Great video! My third and fourth weekend backpacking trips are this weekend and next weekend; super excited! Videos like these are so helpful!
I'm stoked to hear that, Kat! Have amazing weekend trips! - Miranda
Omg love the use for the stasher bag! Never thought of using it to warm stuff up in while camping!
Omg same!! It’s genius
I don’t know if ticks can feel pain, but if they can, I hope the end was painful for that tick. I love Nala so much! 🥺 Your distress at her having the tick was palpable. She has such a good mommy. 💛
Your dog is so cute and well-behaved!!
Thanks for bringing us on the hike, great time. I marked the hike and will going, looks like a great weekend outing.
Hoh Rain Forest - Let me introduce myself.
I heard I’m going to go grab my beer canister 🤣 it’s never too early I guess. Awesome video. Thanks for putting them together for us
Awesome video as always! Thanks for what you and the team do. Makes me excited for my next trip 😁
Our pleasure! Thanks for watching! - Miranda
Different style but really liked it. Hope you do more.
Agreed! This Vlog-style video is great!
I always love your videos look forward to your next one
Videos like this make me wish I lived on the west coast. So scenic!!
You are so fun to watch and very informative. I am learning so much from your videos.
This was a treat. Nala looks so much like my dog Charlie! We're still in total lock down here in Ontario so I'm itching to get out and have some fun. Thank you for the video.
Always love your content!! ☺️
I really like these real time, real hiking videos
Glad to hear it! - Miranda
Her energy is infectious.
I love that pillow!
As you talk your little one also expressed so many emotions. It is so interesting
Loved watching you on the beautiful trail. I would enjoy more! Hike on!
For ticks on dogs, my vet recommended doing double protection because I spend so much time outside. So he's on brevecto and a seresto collar. While I still find ticks on him on occasion they're dead and come off easily.
I liked it! Very nice to see a little of how the day goes, and how you plan the routine .
We hope you were able to get some inspiration!
The backpack looks like my Flash 55. I love that pack. Maybe that one is a little smaller than 55 liter.
Another fun video. Yay! Thanks.
What a dream job Miranda has. Lucky duck.
Thanks!
Hiking with your best furry baby is the best! I hike with Gus everywhere.
I hear there are alot of failures with these befree katadyn filters in the field...not your fault.
I bought 2 of them...and they both failed...never again...back to the sawyer mini and lifestraw for me.
Miranda, your hienergy takes getting use to...but damn..your Fun to watch!!
7:36 ...Web master...Self elected leader, Trail bull... first person on trail...clears all the spider webs..LOL
16:46...we call that "Trail Spice" (a little dirt, leaves , bark etc..in the cook water)
