    I myself just put a sleeve on my trees and it blocks the sun and insects haven't been a problem. I have a commercial nursery beside where I work and the trees are in no way crowded as they need them to grow properly and not spindly. They have hundreds of acres of trees and rarely do I see them put trees into the discard lot (mostly give them away to town parks and such) and they work with their stock daily. It's amazing how many miles a tree gets on it in a year as they haul them from one area to another on trailers a;; day long. I often laugh as the truck goes by with 6 trailers and hundreds of trees on it as they pass through what I call the car wash. This is where they fertilize the trees as they get water from the irrigation in the nursery yard daily. They even put 90% of the trees in high doom shelters during the winter. It is amazing a tree doesn't cost a lot more than they do.

    I utilize a lot of whitewash on my trees, coops, cement surfaces. Lime and sulfur makes a flea dip for dogs, keeps and and mites out of the coop! Non toxic and cheap I just mix up lime powder and water. Good info thanks for sharing!

    I bought a can of the brown because of your channel Scott. I need to go ahead and use it on all of my trees to go ahead and protect them from the ground up past the plastic trunk protectors I have on them now to keep my dogs from chewing and my wife's weed eating🤗👍. I also need to do my new grape vines but they just went into the ground and aren't even sticking out of the protector tubes yet.

    Interesting video Scott. One I will keep in mind for the future. I want to try a dwarf cherry tree in a container, and follow what you are doing with backyard orchard culture. I was going to buy two, but when I looked at the price, I was shocked, its out of my budget. Luckily there is a dwarf cherry tree in the backyard of a relatives house I can take cuttings from. So this year I will be trying my hand at rooting tree cuttings.

    • @teresaamsler5083
      @teresaamsler5083 ปีที่แล้ว

      Folks, diatomaceous earth is micro fossil diatoms. This is used by poultry keepers, organic gardeners, and mindful property owners. There is no "binder". If it gets wet, it must be spread again to be effective. It kills insects by getting into their exoskeletons and plugs up their breathing tubes- spiracles. A must use organic product for me in all the above uses.

  • @JennySimon206

    You should take the apples off that tree till it's bigger no? Expending a lot of energy when the tree is still small and should concentrate on growing?
    Plus the apples are heavy

    • @ScottHead
      @ScottHead  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      No they are going to help weigh the limbs down to force a more horizontal growth habit, which in turn helps the tree grow more fruiting spurs. I did thin heavily so the branches won't break. Also, keeping the trees small, backyard orchard culture is being practiced. :-)

    What microphone are you using, Scott?

    • @ScottHead
      @ScottHead  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Its a Rode Wireless Go II, a real game changer for me. I dialed in the gain on their little app and adjusted it so that my sound is always the same volume just where I like it, so no fiddling with audio in post. As a one-person operation, I think I found my set up that works for me. The mic receiver sits on the hot shoe of my camera, which is a Panasonic Lumix DC-G100, a wildly capable little micro 4/3 cam. Its pretty tough too, and you know we put our cameras through a workout outdoors with filthy hands and varying weather conditions.

    • @ScottHead

      Hello Ann 👋 IV Organic WhiteWash & 3-in-1 products last about as long as synthetic paints- which is about 1-2 years when brushed-on application. Also, depends on how fast the coated plant is growing & may need reapplication. As a foliar spray (very thin & light protection) it will offer your plants protection for about 3 months. Let me know if you have any other questions! 🌱👍
