First again. I have young trees. Need to get some of that. I've seen people dig down a couple inches under the dirt. Helps keep borers away. Your videos always seem only a couple minutes long. Then I look, and it says over eight minutes. Always enjoy them. Thanks again.
Nice!!! Your quick! That’s interesting, I will have to look into that. I love hearing that, I try to make them “entertaining”, even if it’s also educational too 😁
Love these chill videos, so relaxing to watch. I saw a youtube video of a guy who placed logs under his trees. Spiders made a home in the logs, climbed up the trees and ate all the pests. Pretty good idea!
Hi James, I'm glad to see that you used IV Organics... He is a real nice man, last year he sent me two fig cuttings from his tree... I have those two fig trees growing and doing fine... You might just want to go check his channel, he has a lot of info too... but you are my favorite LOL !
Thanks for this tip, living in Southern Arizona, I wrap my trucks with the white cloth tape and it works wonderful but this is great for the branches I can’t tape ✌️
Thanks for explaining about fungus being the "teeth" in your soil. That debunks about 15 hours of my life watching other people's offerings. I'm getting started late, but getting started. It's early winter rather than fall, as you recommend. But, I'll soon have my first load of wood chips. Just got a hitch so I can tow a little trailer. Very exciting time.
Love that song James and I might use this but maybe there is something else going on with my moms Chinese maple bark is peeling away and it's old, lol about 40 years I guess. Any advice?
good show james. i used to be horrified in my neighborhood when passing a white trunked tree--glad they made a brown variety. i remember that people used a cardboard product to surround the trunks. regards, carmine p.
This is good info. I wrap the trunks to discourage mice and rabbits from gnawing the bark as well as prevent sunburn and sunscald. However, you can get the splits higher up the tree that need to be taken care of. Splits can develop beneath the tree wrapping the trunk, so it is good to take it off for an inspection once a year or so.
Stefan Sobkowiak from permaculture orchard had a video about this. He said that one can use paint or just simply plant high enough berry bush from south side. Also in winter, when sun is reflecting from snow and heating dark bark in the night when temperarure drops bark will burst also.
AWESOME! Very timely video and answers a question I had about ours. Recently moved out to PA and have 3 fruit trees that didnt get love. Have those splits in them and made me think rodents. Did not think sun, although that answers it 100%... trees are in the open , getting full sun all day long.
Consider harvesting and trying pine sap for this same thing too. Many pines, if wounded, secrete a mad ton of antiseptic goo that glues over their wounds. It's malleable when warm. Of course with many issues to fix this might not be very labor effective.
7:40 if you take the kale and jam that back into the ground will it root? Or dig a 2-3 ft hole with a stick? I did something similar with cranberry hibiscus and was pleasantly surprised when it worked.
I have a cherry plum tree here in zone 8 Southern California about 20 years old I noticed the trunk on the northwest side is really got a big gouge in it ground level up about a foot up. I don't think the tree has much longer to go but it is full of cherry plums and I'd like to get a last Harvest out of it should I pack that big crack with soil and then somehow wrap it? Or should I use just a paint around it inside the crack too. I hope you're able to help I have no idea I never saw anything like this before
the guy who makes that paint is awesome hes got a video about citrus hardiness and how hardy each citrus is i never knew oranges and mandarins were hardier than limes and lemons and that some can take real real cold, and he recently went vegan so hes a real cool dude id almost buy his paint and organic fertilisers just cause i wanna help him out lol
Hi thx 4 this info however can i use this on other type of trees? I live in hot las vegas n the heat does a number on everything in the summer. Hope to hear ur thoughts soon 😊🌎😊
Happy harvest day! 👍🏻❤️🎃 my peach tree is splitting and weeping sap, it’s also covered in lichen. I think it looks cool but I don’t know if it’s bad for the tree. Tree is about 20 yrs old. It puts out peaches but I have a that Curley cue bug you talked about. This coming year I’m am going to spray it like crazy. I wanted to cut it down but my honey said no he likes the shade ( it’s right next to back deck). Good video. Thanks for info.❤️👍🏻💪🏻🖖🏻🐾🐾🐾🎃
What about a weeping cherry treee where the bark has been split open for years? Any hope for it? It's bloomed this past spring better than it has in years maybe because we've had so much rain. One youtube guy suggested putting dampened moss on the open fractured bark and wrapping the areas with plastic wrap to keep it on. Is there any hope for my tree? It's 18 years old.
I did see people using lime and water, which ends up being white and is totally natural. Washes off with time and is usually applied one a year or every other year. The white coler will reflect heat and prevent heating up too fast.
Any advice for Apple tree leafs with yellow and brown on them. I plan to speak with an orchard but I’m really concerned. 3 trees were planted in the spring and have bark splitting (ordered the product here) and now I’m trying to get the leafs healthy.
Thank you for sharing! Very informative as we have a small orchard started. Also, I wanted to ask....we have a couple peach trees, bout three years old???... the one we got a lot of small peaches this year, but they had this, like, these small patches that had like a sugar seeping out... ever heard of that? Or know what it's from? Is it normal when a tree first starts beating fruit?
The same thing happens to human skin as one gets older It's called getting old!!! Lololololol I'm almost 70 and I know. A good lotion really helps. 😄😄 Found your location on the map. Will follow your weather this winter. You're the best, pal.
I have some non citrus hedges that my late husband planted and let grow over 12 to 20 feet tall. I cut them down to about 6 feet. The 'trunks' thickened and are up to about 5 inches or more in diameter. All the foliage has died and shows no signs of returning. The bark is peeling off in large chunks and since I have mosaiced some walls in my garden, I'd like to put mosaic bands around the tree trunks. Is this advisable on a tree? I've seen it done on dead tree stumps over a sealer so I presume I can do the same in my case but want feedback so I don't waste my time. Thanks for any advice anyone has.
Sigh...I don't think I can hurt my mulberry any more than it already is. I'm gonna paint some stuff on it and maybe it'll help the poor thing. Thank you for the info
Would sunflower, asparagus, etc on the sun side be a good proactive method to prevent the scalding or would that create a mold layer? I live in an area that gets baked by sun - any ideas help. I have heavy clay soil so I could 'paint' that on but I would rather have a companion plant option.
My bing cherry tree split into two, top half bottom half does anyone have an idea if the tree can be saved, and what I will need to do to accomplish this
Hey bro, how did you end up doing with fighting the plum curio problem you had at the beginning of the year? You stopped talking about it as the year went on. Hope you had good luck fighting that issue
Could you explain the differences between mulch, compost, and soil? Are there any other steps in between these? Also, how manure should be used related to each of these. I think, on this subject, you'll say manure should be put down in a 2" layer in the Fall and covered with 2-4" of wood chips. And, I think you will say that wood chips, manure, and compost will all become soil given access to microbes, oxygen, fungus, sunshine, any water. Can wood chips compost without manure? I'm getting dizzy trying to figure out how to ask you the questions? But I think you've got the idea.
James! Great video and very informative! I planted some multi grafted cherries/pluot 2 weeks ago during a Long Island heat wave (I know you’re in NJ, so don’t be a LI hater). Anyway, I’m going to apply a horticultural oil and miticide but not sure how they will interact with the IV Organics 3 in 1. Will one block the absorption of the other? I think I have to apply the oil, miticide, IV organically 3 in 1 annually, is that correct? Thanks!
Yeah!!! I subscribe to Charles Malki @ IV Organic Growing who does the TH-cam for this product 🤗 I use it on my trees too cause you know our heat is extreme in Las Vegas. I’m supposed to do a video with him an Kaye Kittrell @ Late Bloomer Organic Gardening
Sorry, hate to be a bother, but last question. My father says not to put mulch up against a tree. He says that bugs will kill it if I do. But, in your videos, I can see that you do indeed put the chips right up around a tree and the thing is growing like a dandelion, like a 20 foot tall, fruit bearing dandelion. Is there a secret here?
In my experience, it's usually not bugs you need to worry about when mulching. Since most fruit trees only have roots in the top 2 feet of whatever they are growing in, if you put a 'volcano' of mulch around a tree (piling it high right up against the trunk), the tree will grow roots in that mulch and be more susceptible to drying out when the mulch dries out, since the majority of it's roots would then be in that small amount of mulch. The roots in the mulch are also prone to circling in that 'volcano' and then they cut off circulation in the tree. Any insects your dad noticed were likely attracted to a tree in distress due to one or both of these things happening. The way Jamie does it, making a nice even layer of mulch a few inches deep in his food forest, is good because the roots won't circle the trees and the trees won't have a majority of their roots in the mulch. Also the larger amount of mulch he uses will retain moisture better than a small circle of mulch will and provide nutrients to the tree as is decomposes. Hope I answered your question.
Needed this one! I went out this week and noticed my peach and necatrine had several areas where the bark had split! Well timed video!

Nice to see you are using the Iv organics, ive been following their vids for ages.
We are totally on the same page, I just ordered the same stuff for my trees!
Haha really!!? I love it!! On the same wavelength 🌊
I've seen the Mollison/ Lawton interview, very cool. That's right, always keep learning. Always be a student.👍🙏
See, i would have thought that the splitting was from growing too fast but i will try this regardless of why it happens-- thanks for this!
Thanks for this tip, living in Southern Arizona, I wrap my trucks with the white cloth tape and it works wonderful but this is great for the branches I can’t tape ✌️
Thank you so much. I love your videos 😀
Your welcome Maria! Thanks for the support 😁❤️
I just had two tree cut down and ash and a poplar had it cut to chips! I'm so excited to start my food forest!! Thanks James!!

Keep doing videos like this bro!!
Thanks for the info, I had someone ask about Green paint last year, now I know more about it.
I have 2 very young trees and will keep and look out for those issues. Thanks!

Obviously this was 4 years ago, so just wondering if you have ever tried that before. Alternatively, if you have a time machine that would be great.
Thank you... I just love to hear what you have to say... Along with your enthusiasm... You make me smile! 😁
Awe your sweet Christine! Thanks for the kind words 😁❤️

Precious Tuck! And precious James! Bless you. Alice
Thanks 4 the knowledge as always bro!
same thing happened to my Santa rosa, but not my methley , wonder if its a genetic thing with that variety.
Hmmm, could be. That makes sense to me, Santa Rosa must be super susceptible 🤔
Thanks for commenting Tory 😁
Hi thx 4 this info however can i use this on other type of trees? I live in hot las vegas n the heat does a number on everything in the summer. Hope to hear ur thoughts soon 😊🌎😊
I also love their motto.."we grow cool trees"..

I live in South Texas and use that on my lemon trees.
many ppl say to clean wood first before applying anything, some say dish soap and water spray wood first ,
Are you sure you didn't choose the brown color so that your head of security could use it as camouflage?
Haha.... no comment 😏
Hi James, Can Plant Guard be used on a 100 year Sugar Maple that has sunscald?
It is also good to paint new pruned areas. Can I get this at a nursery or do I have to order it on line ? I need to get some.
I did see people using lime and water, which ends up being white and is totally natural. Washes off with time and is usually applied one a year or every other year. The white coler will reflect heat and prevent heating up too fast.
I was going to ask, if you got hit by that Nor'easter. Down here in Kentucky, we had a little bit of that wind, but not much.
I used to use latex paint and mix it with antiseptic mouthwash. It worded as well for a cheap hack.😉🙄😉
can we use simple wall paint?
Thanks James! :)
😁❤️
Can I paint during winter time too??
Can I use this on my beautiful red maple - a deer attacked the base of the trunk last night :(
Any advice for Apple tree leafs with yellow and brown on them. I plan to speak with an orchard but I’m really concerned. 3 trees were planted in the spring and have bark splitting (ordered the product here) and now I’m trying to get the leafs healthy.

You're the best, pal.
What is the colour of dry bark of amla plant
What exactly is the product he used and what are the ingredients ?
Jamie can you use this in late fall when the temp is only 50 degrees.

Sigh...I don't think I can hurt my mulberry any more than it already is. I'm gonna paint some stuff on it and maybe it'll help the poor thing. Thank you for the info
My mulberry tree is dying also, I think it is a root ball problem
Can I use it on rotten trunk?
My persimmon tree's trunk is rotten
Hi James, how much of your family’s weekly food do you grow in your garden ?
Would sunflower, asparagus, etc on the sun side be a good proactive method to prevent the scalding or would that create a mold layer? I live in an area that gets baked by sun - any ideas help. I have heavy clay soil so I could 'paint' that on but I would rather have a companion plant option.
How can you differentiate trunk splitting due to sunburn/sun scald vs fireblight?
Got a large cherry tree drought beaten little leaves growing at bottom of stem of tree
My bing cherry tree split into two, top half bottom half does anyone have an idea if the tree can be saved, and what I will need to do to accomplish this
What are your thoughts on bare root fruit trees? Feels like i planted a stick, lol. That is until the next season when the stick comes to life.

Need a video search so I can find your video on grapes and the best way to start them
Who sells it?
You dont put lime on surface of young tree???
Yo man, just wanted to let you know I just used this product on my trees and it seems to be working great.
Awesome brother, glad to hear that. I really like it as well, have you put it on all your trees?
I still need to do it on some of mine
@@jamesprigioni I did all the trees that had signs of splitting.
The tree appears to be too deeply planted and/or there is too much mulch built up around the base of the trunk.
Sorry, hate to be a bother, but last question. My father says not to put mulch up against a tree. He says that bugs will kill it if I do. In James Prigioni's food forest, there are no mistakes, just happy accidents :)
Wouldn't it be cool if you had a cacao tree?
Yes!! That would be awesome 😁
Don't trees also crack because they are growing.?
I wish I’ve seen this earlier 😢
When laying down the wood chips make sure you put a hepa mask on so you won’t mess up your lungs.
I always thought stretch marks added beauty… to an extent
He didn't let us see what the product is called
6:05 You grouped moles in with your rodents. Moles are not rodents and they will not feed on your plants, they are insectivores.
the old man always used can of tar , yep put it on with paint stick done
use clay
I would never use that company way to expensive home depot or lows give you d same protection farmers been using it for years
