It’s hinted that Messmer is blind at the start - he’s in the darkness and the snake’s eye is the first thing that we see, note it’s sticking its tongue out too (snakes are deaf, they bring in the scent via their tongue) so the snake is sensing you on Messmer’s behalf
Makes sense, his eyeball had no cord attached and inside it was snakes. Kinda nasty. His face fits like Malenia's tho
Prior to the fight in Fort of Reprimand there's an interesting perversion of the Soreseals we see like Mesmer's and Marika, but it's Black. It would be used as some sort of fear generator to keep people in line, but I wonder what other applications it had due to it's name being Occultation. Hidden to be simple. Eye of Occultation. Interesting to think Demi God's would undergo autoenucleation, seems like ritualistic brainwashing! Go there if you haven't it's hidden below the fort. It looks like it was once Rykard's many re-education camps 😂

@@mayh3m589 which shows how much stronger they are. To be able to live, let alone fight in this kinda world and come out at the top - Malenia is the considered the strongest demi-god and Messmer was charged in purging the Realm of Shadows, just shows the godhood they have.
I think my favorite bit of this fight is in Messmer's introduction. At first his tone is dissmisive and haughty, calling you a stray mongrel that dared to enter his house. But then once he gets a good look at you, his tone shifts to one of suprise. He's prolly thinking "A tarnished made it all the way here? How?"
Considering how long he’d been in the Land of Shadows, he probably has little to no idea of what’s happening in the Lands Between so he sounds confused upon seeing us and wonders if his mother resorted to having graceless Tarnished eligible for lordship.

Marika is one of the worst mothers there is, she only used her children as tools for her plans
And without a doubt Mesmer so much that they promoted him and took marketing from him and they already told us that he would be an incredible boss and probably the best of the dlc, even if he was not the final enemy, he is the great villain of the story and the one responsible for the destruction of that kingdom, he proved to be a very powerful semi God who is on par with malenia and radahn
And people will still simp for her because she's hot and taller than us. 😑
Edit:might us well add in the fact that every artist tends to draw her in a more sexual way that leaves her body more exposed, which attracts more people to her.

Felt like his phase 2 was almost easier. I learned his snake combos and punished with chilling mist. He just kept proc’ing frostbite and that dropped his HP down quick. The snake combos gave me so many punish opportunities it felt scripted whooping his butt that way.
this fight is honestly the best fight ive seen so far in the DLC its fucking intense as hell and keep in mind that messmer isnt a shardbearer either which only shows how strong this guy really is

from the perspective of someone who doesn't play these games but watches the latest boss battles for cinematic appreciation, this wasn't as cool as most of the base game fights. malenia, ramadingdong, the giant uhh snake boss thing? the berserker guy with the lion shoulder armour or some shit? the desert giant guy, the astral endboss, the enchanted librarian woman - those were all much cooler
@@hansolo631 well from the perspective of someone that actually plays the game, even if its not cool in a cinematic way, is cool in a mechanical and gameplay way, its a really fun fight.
Really enjoyed fighting this guy, had to go light load to dodge some of his attacks, but imo the the coolest boss ive fought so far is Bayle the Dread. Had to bring out my mimic for that guy 😅

I don't think I've ever seen a cooler boss fight in any other game though. Although I'm yet to play the newer God of War games or Devil May Cry 5.

It was to be expected, mesmer took all the attention, marketing, commercials and the one that miyasaki talked about the most before the release of the game, it is practically a similar case to how it happened with artorias, it was the main face of the dlc and it was also an incredible fight, very difficult but undoubtedly the favorite of the fans in that dlc and they repeated the formula with mesmer, Maybe El and Artorias weren't the final bosses but they were the best in their respective DLCs

@@doza183bro I’m over level 300 and Messmer is still hard as hell. I’m on ng+ lvl 385 and I had to use a mimic tear while using +10 ruin greatsword (I have 99 strength) and it still took like 20 tries. Phase 2 is actually easier, at least it was for me. I kept dying on phase 1. I still died a few times on phase 2 tho.

So he calls himself the abyssal serpent, but the title is based on serpent. It almost makes me think there was a translation error or something like that. But I’m probably wrong and there may be other defining factors. Either way, still a really cool boss.
I think by base they mean original, as in the first serpent but I'm not 100%.
Base can also mean something similar to vile or depraved, devoid of any higher ability or virtue. The lowest of the low. That’s how I interpret it being used here.

If you’re struggling with this fight, try using the flamdrake talisman, dragon crest shield talisman and old lords talisman and whatever 4th you want that isn’t going to make you take more damage. Use flame fortification, black flame protection and golden vow. I like to squeeze in a blessing of erdtree just cuz during the fight it heals a bonus 1404 hp with old lords talisman

He didn’t even get to show his entire moveset
So... He has Marika's Scarseal in his eye. I think he loves his mother very much, but he's just shy. Or she just sealed his power with pure hatred, but disguised it as care and affection.

She abandoned him , forced duties upon him alone , his entire army fought and died for 100s of years in a war which ultimately means nothing as marika shatters the Elden Ring anyway AND THEN the only gift he had from her (the seal of his eye) needs to be broken since we push him to his limit.
He has nothing but contempt for Marika , but who doesn't? Yet another victim of her pointless "plans".

Messmer deep down knows marika is a terrible mother,he deep down know he got abbandoned,yet he still fulfill his duty to prove and make himself feel he is worthy,he just wanted some recognition from marika i think,just like every child has a need to prove themselves to their parent
