Follow along in this 5 part series where we purchase, benchmark, modify, drag race, and dyno this 2006 Corvette Z06.
In this final episode, we head back to the track after all of our modifications to see how much we've improved our Corvette Z06. If you missed the previous video, we made 721 hp and stayed naturally aspirated. We drag race some 2000's era supercars like a Ferrari 360 and Lamborghini Gallardo. We make a huge improvement on our lap time and we also take our Corvette to a car show!

Sounds heavenly. This is how you build a basic street z06. Heads, cams, I/e/h and a good tune with some suspension, wheels, tires and brakes. Covered every area. That cold start would put a smile on my face every morning.

This is better than any flat plane crankshaft DOHC out there from a company called Ford and sounds so much better than the 2023 ZO6. Nothing sounds better than a good old pushrod, cross-plane modded LS7/LS9/LT4/LT5.
Oh My God... that Z06 sounds absolutely amazing!
I bought a 2006 Z06 back in the days with only 1,500 miles on it. Bone stock I ran 11.3 @ 126mph consistently at Palm Beach raceway in Florida.

C6 Vette is my dream car... It's raw. Not fancy or delicate. It doesn't try to be. It is what it is. A cheap, pissed off, old school styled SOB. It's American 💪

It’s actually amazing how far cars have come. 16 year old me was in love with the 360 Modena. And seeing a gallardo in person was incredible. Honestly all 3 of those cars would have been in my dream garage at the time.
Y’all severely underestimated how fast a C6Z can be… especially with a good H/C/I setup 🙂

I ran a 11.43 at 126 mph in my 2018 SL63 in 2019 at that strip.. had fun that day and met some cool dudes. 😊 good job on the Z06 by the way, sounds great !!

seen so many POV views of TMP from the Speed Academy guys, it's neat to see a drone shot and actually see how the course is laid out! Neat car BTW, I'm not much of a Vette guy, but you got a good one there.
Really like the overhead drone shot mixed with cabin shots on track. I don't think I've seen this before on a car reviews and it really gives context to a first person perspective making them more meaningful and enjoyable. Track first person can be a little boring by itself. It's hard to capture the feeling.

You could have put this c6z up against the huracan and the 458 and still beat both of them. That c6z on a drag radial should do the quarter somewhere around a low to mid 10 second pass, and with the right tires on the road course, it will absolutely destroy almost anything there too! The C6Z is probably one of the best power to weight cars out there! Great vid guys, I have been enjoying watching this series.
The only reason they used the 360 and gallardo is because they are at Toronto Motorsport park and I’m pretty sure those are the owner/managers cars
like they mentioned, the 360 and gallardo are from the same era (2006) as their C6Z, so those would be the closest competitors at the time. Would’ve been cool if they compared stock C6Z vs modified tho. To see how much drag times improved

@@TheStraightPipes whoops.. I must’ve overlooked that, but when watching it over, Jakub said he ran a 12.4, when I originally watched the video I only remember seeing the factory rated time.
I wouldn't go as far as to say it would beat a huracan much less a 458
Love the series! One thing though. The Z06 ran 11.7 stock and could have hung with or beat both those super cars before you did anything.
Yeah... the next modification for the car needs to be a driver mod. Love what they're doing, but there needs to be some training here. The car should be posting much, much faster times.
I can remember this generation Z06 was the car to have at time attacks when I was doing it in the late 2000s. People would show up with their stock Z06s and be quick right away. The modified ones were crazy fast, almost too fast for the drivers there.
Watch the prices of C6 Z06's rise in Canada. Loved the series guys, maybe revisit the car once in a while. I'd love to see what the car would turn with a set of slicks, or lap times with stickier rubber. The sound was gnarly Dudes.

We will need to buy a few spares from eBay motors and keep them in the trunk. Luckily a 5min swap

I remember seeing a guy on Ls1tech get a bone stock C6 Z06 to a 10.8 1/4 mile. Only had drag radials! That's your dragstrip goal!

You made my heart sing. I bought a 2009 yellow c6 because of my frustration with the c8 z06 pricing, dealer mark ups, and owner restrictions. And I’m number 10 on a list. So I said To He’ll With It and said I’d build my own. I sent the car to Race Track Motorsports in pompano beach Florida for a stage 3 package and a suspension upgrade. My goal is to turn a quarter mile faster than the new z06. And with your video I know I can do it. Thanks again for this great series👍

The C6 Z06 is one of my favorite cars, especially in yellow
I am not ordinarily a fan of modifying an engine for more horsepower, but you guys did a very good job with this one. I am still keeping my C6 Z06 stock, though.
You may have to if your haven't gotten the known valve dropping issue taken care of
@@racequad9 I have gotten that issue taken care of by preemptively having the heads fixed by AHP with hardened PM valve guides. I did not have AHP perform any porting or other modifications for increased horsepower. I didn't consider the AHP work to be a modification because of no HP increase, but you may be right.
@@ktriebol That's good you got it taken care of. Way too common of an issue the ls7 engines.

I believe that with the c6 z06 stock, you were supposed to launch it in 2nd gear to get the best times.

A street truck build would be pretty sick for next year considering how all the new stuff is off road or electric. From the Chevy SS, to the Ford lightning, and even the Dodge Viper trucks from the 2000s are so epic. Their prices are sky rocketing as well so they’ll be a good investment for sure sure 🏁🏁🏁

My brother owns a C6 with Z51 package. After all his mods he has 600+ hp and it definitely feels like every single one of them

Can we get more drone footage with review cars not just the corvette? When you guys merged the track footage from the drone with the in car footage, it made me feel like I could see each and every way the corvette was pitching its body weight. Very very cool.

alternator issue is almost certainly related to the new exhaust, the long tube headers make the engine bay a lot hotter which is known to mess with alternators. getting the headers wrapped or coated can help!

That 11.7 1/4-mile made me cringe since a C6 Z06 will do way better than that in stock form. I'm more of a road race guy but my 2010 (also my daily) now has 691whp and I've managed a 10.4 on street tires. I'm in Florida so you can't blame the heat or humidity. ;-) Super-fun series guys. Cheers.
I can blame 2 passes on a new setup, no time to check pressures, the heat from going between drag and road course and back to drag and filming idle time as well as no burnout while being bump started to the line. What else you got

If you can 60 ft better than 1.8, I promise you'll get a 10 second pass.
I'm around these heads/cam c6z06s often and it's no problem for them to dip into the 10s.
If you get very good density altitude like -500 or -1000, these have ran very low 10s and some hit 9 seconds in the quarter mile around the 600+ rwhp level.

@@TheStraightPipes awesome, your track seems nicely prepped but in case you need stickier tires, the go-to are Mickey Thompson ET Street tires but some have pulled off wild times with Nitto nt555r2 drag radials.

Did it end up being the alternator or the starter? Typically the OEM starters need heat shielding after longtubes because they're susceptible to getting too hot and can't start well after running hot for a long while (such as drag racing or numerous laps).
Alternator. Voltage kept dropping until it fully died. The last drag race and donuts were all on battery power 😂
I want to see the Z06 in more videos. Use it to compare to any super cars you review.

The only problem with that is most supercars will no longer seem super as that z06 will roast almost anything.
