- The 2024 Tesla Cybertruck Cyberbeast ($96,390 starting in the US) and the Corvette Z06 ($110,100 starting in the US, $146,299 starting in Canada) have lined up for a drag race. With 670 horsepower and 460 lb ft of torque to the rear wheels, the Z06 hopes to use its weight and size advantage against the all-wheel drive, 845 horsepower Cybertruck. Well, actually, they proved quite a bit. Two “made in America” beasts at the opposite end of the spectrum going toe to toe.

To begin with, about half the lifetime carbon-dioxide emissions from an electric car come from the energy used to produce the car, especially in the mining and processing of raw materials needed for the battery and motor. EV's require 3 times the copper wire! This compares unfavorably with the manufacture of a gasoline-powered car which accounts for 17% of the car’s lifetime carbon-dioxide emissions. When a new EV appears in the show-room, it has already caused 30,000 pounds of carbon-dioxide emission. The equivalent amount for manufacturing a conventional car is 14,000 pounds. How will we charge all them EV's? The wind does not always blow nor does the sun always shine so we build more nuke power plants to charge our cars so we increase our risk of another Chernobyl. Hope its your nabor hood and not mine! Also the power grids are so old that several states have rolling blackouts every summer! It will take 50 years and billions of dollars to get the grid up to the task! UN is out to bend you over just like Elon!

@@brettrun8575 Same on a perfect launch from the Z06, which isn't happening as you saw in this video. The E-Ray launch is much more consistent.
Per Car and Driver, both trims run a 10.5 quarter. 0-60: E Ray (2.5s), Z06 (2.6s). I doubt an E-Ray would do any better on that surface, even with the electric motors.

Ill accept it. But Im taking the White Pearl Metallic or Carbon Flash 70th anniversary (especially for the black suede/white leather/red accent interior). But for actual colors, the Elkhart Blue met. & Ceramic Matrix Grey (from c7) are up there.🙌

Losing to a GTR is a shame, waste of power
Agreed, very proud of the Corvette team. Excited to see the Zora take on the Revuelto in a couple years, they're going to have similar specs. Revuelto has 1kHP, 595lbf torque and weighs 3,900lb, the Corvette Zora should ~ the same weight, within 100hp, and have at least 120lbf more torque. Pretty bananas, assuming they just take the ZR1 and put an electric system on the front axle, similar to the Eray. And it'll probably be about half the price of the Revuelto, too. I doubt they'll charge more than 350k.
They look amazing in every color tho, but this and that orange is soooo nice
I started this comment typing, "I don't get the point of these drag race videos. The results are usually known before the video even starts." Then Thomas admitted it was just an excuse to drive the Z06 again. Now I get the point of this video. Thanks Thomas. That said, drag racing electric cars is pretty boring.
What it proves is that he has no idea how to drive the car. Has no business being the spokesperson for which of these does 1/4 mile faster, which is the corvette, by a lot.

Not boring at all I love seeing evs beat ice cars in drag races. It demonstrates a turning point in automotive history.

the cyber trucks top speed is 115 mph.. they faked the 1/4 run in favor of the tesla.. cause they got paid to do so.

I would. The Vette is 0-60 in 2.6 ON PAPER...after multiple runs on an ideal surface with a professional driver. LOTS of videos show that AWD EVs are REALLY fast with almost anyone driving. They just plain hookup better and can always use their immense torque immediately. In the first 50 yards or 50 meters EVs are unreal. They also drag race VERY consistently.

Having recently go a Z06, I can honestly say I really don't care if a Cybertruck can beat me from a dig. The sound, 8600rpm rev limit and general experience of the Z06 just makes me not care if a silent, soulless EV truck is faster. :)
I've owned 2 different supercharged C5 Corvettes over 15 years, and a host of other hot rods and sports cars. These EV's just have no soul to them. As you said. And that takes out half of what I love about ICE sports cars/muscle cars/super cars.

My wife and I drove our Z06 to brunch in Laguna Beach this morning. The Cyber truck may have it from a dig on the street, but the pure enjoyment of the ride cannot be compared. I wouldn't trade. (hats off to Elon for a marvel of engineering however)

You should do the Z06 vs the Tecnica. Both mid engine, RWD, N/A, and both are between 600-700 hp. Seems like it could be pretty even.

E-Ray vs the Cybertruck would be sick, might be a little more fair just not as much power as the z06 but I think the pros of the E-Ray would help more the the odd's would affect it.
The fact that a giant stainless steel truck is drag racing a Z06, a Turbo S, etc. is a real testament to the engineering of the Tesla. These are not cars you’re going to see any other production pickups racing.
The fact that these two wildly different things can exist at the same time in the same place is proof that we're living in one of the best and most interesting times to be car enthusiasts. There's something out there for almost everybody.

The C8 Z06 is my dream car. I've loved Corvettes since I was a kid. I'd be thrilled with a bare-bones C8 Stingray! I saw a Cyber Truck recently. It makes a statement, that's for sure.

I noticed that nobody mentions the Cybertruck hitting the speed limiter that keeps it from going over the max speed of the tires in any of the videos of it drag racing. In some truck drag race videos where the vehicle has a speed limiter, the driver usually mentions “hitting a wall” or something, but I haven’t heard anyone say that in a Cyberbeast drag video. Given the 11.2s quarter, the CB must be going somewhere north of 120mph, so they are probably “H” rated which is a max speed of 130mph. If that’s the case, then in the roll race, I wonder if the Cyberbeast actually hits the speed limiter before the end of the run?
