    Welcome to Paragon's Favourite Stuff where we check out the systems, gear, and other stuff we love to use while cruising aboard our Westsail 42 sailboat (and home!) Paragon.
    In each video we'll take a closer look at something that makes our sailing journey safer, more comfortable, or just easier. If we like it then we'll make a video about it.
    This week we head into the galley to get cooking with The Omnia! It’s a compact stovetop oven that stores well and uses a minimal amount of propane while allowing you to make everything you might in a regular oven. Scones, bread, lasagna, baked potatoes, chicken, stew and more!
    We show how the Omnia works and then make some cinnamon rolls that will knock your socks off!
    For more information on The Omnia go to www.omniasweden.com/en/
    Let us know if there's something aboard Paragon you'd like us to show in this series!
    Take care, stay safe, and we'll see you in the next video!

    Nice video the cinnamon rolls looked awesome. I have a Casita camper trailer which has a galley in it much like a sailboat. There is no oven just a stove top with three burners this thing will work perfectly. Also I have a small house the kitchen is not very big I think I’m going to remodel the kitchen here pretty soon new cabinets and everything I’d rather have cabinets than the stove I think I’m going to just put in a small gas burner just like the camper has in it.
    I have a small and a large pellet grill and also a couple Weber products smoker and grill. So anything that I would want to do in the oven like a Thanksgiving turkey or whatever I can do outside I don’t need an oven I looked at the price of ovens they’re $1000 or more for anything I would consider buying! I think this little oven would be perfect for my situation thanks for the demo!!

    We had one at home in the 70ties. It was called the "Tover Pan" in Dutch. Good memories of what came out :-) Never thought of backing cookies or Cinnamon Rolls in it. We always had something that filled the food container. Unfortunately I just switched over to induction onboard. Don't think that will work for the Omnia.

    • @drakeParagon
      @drakeParagon  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      How cool! Yes, it really does work with so many different food, and the cinnamon rolls fit perfectly! I also have some brownies that I make as thank you gifts that are a big hit as well as all the dinners. I have a french onion stuffed chicken that is insanely delicious. Unfortunately, you are correct about the induction. The Omnia works with pretty much all devices except for the induction stove. It just doesn't generate the right kind of heat that will circulate throughout the Omnia. ⚓-Monique

The show came out in 1975, and back then when I was in the 3rd and 4th grade I watched every episode late at night on a little black and white TV. It seems that the vast majority of TV shows that I really got into all had to do with a team of people on a space ship on an exciting adventure exploring the unknown universe. 😃 I really wanted to name our RIB Eagle 1... • @marzsit9833
      @marzsit9833 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      i can answer this.. baking in a pressure cooker works, but you do not get any sort of a crisp crust on anything due to the moist cooking environment. this works for some things like cakes that will be covered with frosting or icing but not good for things like breads and pies.. you can dry bake in a pressure cooker just like you would dry bake in any other covered pot but you must remove the gasket from the lid to prevent destroying it if you really want to try this.. generally dry baking in any kind of covered pot doesn't work too well, the bottom will always cook faster than the top. the omnia is a much better solution.

    how do you know the temperature, so you don’t undercook or burn it?

    • @drakeParagon
      @drakeParagon  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      We’ve always just let the food cook with a medium flame until it was done. We’ve never burned anything in the Omnia.
      Here what it says in the manual about finding the right heat setting:
      FIND THE RIGHT HEAT: NOT TOO HIGH, NOT TOO LOW
      Using an oven that does not have a temperature gauge may seem strange at first, but if you follow the recipes and cooking instructions you will quickly master the Omnia and open the door to infinite cooking opportunities. It is a good idea to test your Omnia with a simple recipe like a ready-made cake mix, to figure out the right heat for your particular stove. Be careful with the heat - it is easy to let your Omnia get too hot.
      Tips that make it easier to get started and achieve the best results:
      • Finding the right temperature:
      Portable electric hot plate 2000 W => use high heat.
      Alcohol stoves (e.g., Origo/ Cookmate) 2000 W => slightly below half power is usually right.
      Gas burner 2500 W => start testing just above simmer heat.
      • For short cooking times (10-20 minutes), preheat the stainless-steel base on high for 3 minutes before inserting the mold and lid on top. You should now turn the heat down to the level described above. Regardless of the cooking time ALWAYS preheat the stainless steel base when using an electric hot plate.

      Hi Sailing Citrine Sunset,
      I was wondering about that, but so far all I've found is that according to both the Alzheimer's Association and the Alzheimer's Society Canada, there's no evidence that normal day-to-day exposure to aluminum, including cooking with aluminum, is connected to the development of dementia.
      Alzheimer's Association
      "During the 1960s and 1970s, aluminum emerged as a possible suspect in Alzheimer’s. This suspicion led to concern about exposure to aluminum through everyday sources such as pots and pans, beverage cans, antacids and antiperspirants. Since then, studies have failed to confirm any role for aluminum in causing Alzheimer’s. Experts today focus on other areas of research, and few believe that everyday sources of aluminum pose any threat."
      - www.alz.org/alzheimers-dementia/what-is-alzheimers/myths
      Alzheimer's Society Canada
      "Current research provides no convincing evidence that exposure to trace elements of aluminum is connected to the development of dementia."

      We love pizza too! We've made fantastic calzones in the Omnia. I imagine that we could make a thin or thick crust doughnut shaped pizza in the Omnia, but we haven't tried that yet. For years I've always used a special recipe for home made pizza that you cook in a large skillet on the stove top - it's a fantastic recipe. Maybe I'll make it in a video.

      p.s. I just saw that someone posted some scrumptious looking pizza calzones on our facebook post about the Omnia. :) Looks yummy! :)

    I don’t understand how people can eat that for breakfast. I would go into a diabetic coma. That said, they look delicious. 😂😂😜😜✌️✌️

      If you had this every morning for breakfast I think it would definitely be a sugar overload. However, as a sweet treat for a special occasion it is just perfect. Plus, after we enjoy our cinnamon roll and coffee we box up the rest and bring them around to our friends so they can enjoy a little Valentine's day treat as well. Definitely makes for a lovely tradition. ❤️-Monique

    WHAT ABOUT THE FACT THAT YOUU ARE HEATING THE INSIDE OF THE BOAT, THAT IS WASTED HEAT !!!!!!

    • @drakeParagon
      @drakeParagon  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Hi Richard, We've found that the heat dissipated to the boat's cabin from the Omnia is far less than that from the Force 10's oven. In hot climates, we prefer to use the Omnia instead of the Force 10 because the Omnia heats up the cabin far less, and because it uses far less propane.
