They have been around since forever, which is proved by that I remember them from my childhood in the 70's- 80's 😊 My mum used a Omnia in our caravan and now I have one 😍
Seeing you eating the cake mixture reminded me of when I was a kid many years ago and my mother was making a cake in the kitchen. My brother ran into the kitchen and said ‘mummy, mummy, can I lick the bowl’ to which my mother replied ‘no, flush the chain like everybody else’. 🤣😂🤣😂
Thanks for the review! That cake looked delicious. I have a "half and half" 2 x silicone liner set for my Omnia which seem quite rare but are great for smaller portions. Basically 2 x separate half moon shapes. Can't remember the make but pretty sure they are not official. You can cook a Shepherds pie or lasagne or pasta bake etc in one liner and a pudding or cake mix in the other at the same time.
It's Swedish and have been around since the 1940's, at least. It fits almost perfectly on top of a Trangia. I gonna go and buy my self some cake now. 🙂
I made a FANTASIC cake in the Omnia using a store brand cake mix with the silicone liner. The only thing I did different is that I buttered & floured the insert before I poured in the cake mix. Came out PERFECT! Love seeing it done in the wilds. Thanks for posting! New sub.
Tasty looking Cake there Andy! I’ve cooked pizza, cake, toad-in-the-hole, chicken wings, croissants, etc…in mine. Great invention. Albeit a little pricey for what they are. The optional thermometer is a must-have. Looking forward to seeing you try out some more recipes in your Omnia!
I've had one of those butane stoves for quite a few years now, it's never failed me. Not the thing for back-packing, but like you I tend to camp from my truck, or my motorcycle, so space isn't usually an issue. I would have never thought of baking a cake with it though. Now you've got me thinking for the upcoming season. It's - 20 C, and snow here now, so it will be at least April before even considering camping. How to impress your friends at your next group camp - bake a cake!
I've wanted one for a few years but they're expensive for what they are. I'd like to see Yorkshire pudding done it it and see if the top browns or not. I've used a deep saute pan before many times with a cooling rack cut to fit the bottom, then a tin on the rack, lid on and you can make all sorts like pizza, bread, cakes, Yorkshire pudding, flapjacks etc.
I've had an Omnia oven for about 2 years now, and it's been a fantastic solution to baking things in camp. The only downside is that things don't brown very well, but that's really more of an aesthetic thing. I've baked maybe 20-30 cakes in mine, and have found that the lowest setting on the stove flame gives the best results. It doesn't take much to get things too hot and end up with burned bits, but the technique will come with a few uses. Our shop used to buy cakes for employee birthdays, but we now use the Omnia, and it's fun to see the looks on some customers faces when they smell the goodness and see what we're doing. Thanks for the review, and for the great content!
Very lovely video. So glad to see this oven working. I've been looking at several different stove top ovens... your choice may very well be the right choice for my needs too. Thanks for showcasing in a real world environment too. Job well done 👏 ✔ 👍.
About safety of silicone molds: can you check this, Andy: The “Twist” Test The “twist” test is an easy way to assess the quality of a silicone cookware item. All you have to do is take a silicone product in your hands and twist it. If lots of white streaks appear, it indicates the presence of a large number of fillers. Pure silicone (safer) will hold its color when twisted. (5)

Interesting oven that is the type of stove I use when car camping and don't want to cook over a fire. I would put the temperature gauge as well. Thanks Andy
I have had mine for years and it is used on every camping trip. I definitely recommend it if you are somewhere you are not allowed a fire. A word of warning, do not cook directly onto the aluminium oven itself always use the silicone or tray. It is very difficult to clean and stains easily.
That worked a real treat, didn't it! I'd like to see if it would work on top of a woodstove in a hot tent. I don't see why not, with proper attention. I can also see it being used at home in a power outage! You can still bake something over a different heat source! (Tried to get one - the one with the whole kit - Marked currently unavailable.
