    Lloyd, greetings from Australia. As a beginning clay buster I have just purchased the humble Miroku Mk 10 Sporter and love it but am seriously considering the 828U for hunting. I do enjoy your honest reviews, mate . Subbed!

    May have the opportunity to pick up a 828U for about a grand in a few months time. Would you reckon it's worth a punt for that money? It's certainly a quirky gun, but I'm mostly conscious of the reliability issues that people have been experiencing. It'd be used for an occasional round of 25-50 clays and for 1-2 game days a year. I currently do that with an inexpensive little Spanish Side-By-Side, but non toxic ammo isn't generally recommended through it 🤷‍♂️

      I would say there are batter guns for that money used unless you really want a super light.

      Thanks for replying :) I'm not fussed about weight really. I've shouldered up quite a few guns now and found that Browning/Miroku are generally too high in the comb for me. Beretta seem a bit hit and miss with regards to fit, especially with most being manufactured with some cast off (I'm left handed so would be looking for an ambidextrous or 'cast on' setup ideally). Two things are making me give apprehension to the 828U. The barrel length is 28" and I'd somewhat set my heart on going 30-32" when I change my gun. The other is reliability/durability, something that seems questionable on this very quirky modern gun. The upsides are that there appears to be plenty of shim options in the box to make it fit me, and I can pay instalments as it currently belongs to a friend. I also have some extended Criochokes I use in my Franchi that will suit it.

    Great review, I really like the look of this gun though I am just getting into shooting, I will probably shoot more clay then game though with the heavier cartridges required for games will this rule out the 828 ? Or do I but the 828 for Clays and a Silver Pigeon for game ?
    Any advice gratefully received

    • @lloydyp
      @lloydyp  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Jonathon Davies how much shooting are you doing? if you are getting through a lot of cartridges and are mainly shooting 28 gramme loads then you might find the benelli is too light for the job. however if you don't shoot a whole lot or you shoot 24 or 21g loads it will be fine.

    • @jonathondavies824
      @jonathondavies824 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Lloyd Pattison I recently attended a 140 clay shoot using a different gun on each stand with 21g load and I have been invited to a 150 bird shoot later in the year, my fear would be with a larger load if required for game the 828 might have too much recoil

    • @lloydyp
      @lloydyp  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I shot a slab of 28g loads through the gun in 2 days and I was fine, however if I was shooting that much every week I would find it tiring I think, I habitually shoot about 300 a week so this is a concern for me. If you are shooting 150 every couple of months you will be fine. Equally Game shooting you tend to shoot less volume, and value the light weight so again, this will be fine. I did shoot some 30g #6 carts for testing and whilst it was certainly sharp, it was no worse than shooting a S/S game gun.

    • @jonathondavies824

    • @lloydyp
      @lloydyp  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Jonathon Davies absolutely your personal preference sir, but I can't see either length feeling unwieldy. Pick whatever you are comfy with and swings right in your hands. Shoot before you buy as well, there is no substitute.

      Honestly, No. I know a few people who have picked these up as unusual guns for clays, and not many are still with the original owners. there are better guns for less money that will be more useful to a new user. To buy one of these you kinda need to know what you are getting into.

      Thank you sir. No contest here. The 694 kicks the 828s ass as a sporter in every important way. Ergonomics, controls, balance, shoot ability, consistency. The 828 is cool cos it's different and fun, but as a gun you will shoot week in week out for clays, the 694 is the obvious choice.

    • @lloydyp
      @lloydyp  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Because it's not a semi automatic. This is an Over and Under shotgun, the gun is loaded and unloaded by breaking the barrels open and manually loading 2 shells into the breach. If you want to see a semi auto in action, go here: th-cam.com/video/I_szERolAi4/w-d-xo.html

    • @lloydyp
      @lloydyp  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Cheers Steve. I would say, depends on how much shooting you are going to do. When I started out 50 clays a week seemed like a lot, and for that volume the 828 would be fine, also useful as a walked up / rough gun. Nowadays however I regularly shoot 300 targets a week. I think it you are going to get bitten by the bugt, you would be better looking at something like a new Browning B525 / Miroku MK70, or a used Beretta 692 / 690 or Browning B725 or Ceasar Guerini Summit.

    • @lloydyp

      F16 any day of the week. The F16 is built to bust clays and whilst it's light and well balanced its not too light. The 828 is a lot of fun but I wouldn't want to shoot one every day as a clay tool.

    J'ai acheté mon Benelli 828U silver il y a environ 1 an et demi,très enthousiasmé de recevoir mon arme à l'ouverture (île de la réunion)....Enfin je reçois mon fusil (magnifique jusqu'à là).Donc première chasse avec ,je tire une paire de caille ,et là je m’aperçois qu'il y a un jeu anormal entre mon canon et le boitier culasse,donc retour chez mon armurier de la réunion en lui montrant le problème ,donc il constate ce jeu et il contacte humbert(importateur Benelli FRANCE)même pas surpris,qui lui demande de renvoyer le fusil et qu'il vont le remplacer(Bon ok ,ma saison de chasse est morte ).Je reçois quelque temps après mon nouveau Benelli tout neuf(LA SAISON EST FINIE),je le range dans mon armoire à fusil en attendant la saison 2017.Donc je ne me sers pas de mon fusil!!!
    Et là je trouve sur ce site qu'il y a des problème avec le bloc détente donc comme je prépare un voyage chasse en Afrique du Sud au petit gibier,je retourne voir mon armurier en lui expliquant les problèmes du bloc détente ,bien sur il envoie un mail à Humbert en donnant le numéro de mon arme,et ce dernier lui répond en gros que si cela arrive il le prenne en garantie.Donc je pars en AF ET BIEN SUR APRES 12 CARTOUCHES ,le bloc détente tombe(bravo Humbert ),je le remet en place et 4 coups après ça recommence......Bon en AF impossible de me fournir un autre canon lisse,donc 5 jours de chasse à 250 euros soit 1250 euros dans le C.. Enfin je passe les détails de mon séjour à suivre mes amis SANS FUSIL(avec les vannes qui vont bien avec).Dés mon retour je retourne vers mon armurier en lui expliquant le problème enfin j'étais assez énervé .Donc il envoie un mail à HUMBERT en lui expliquant tout les problèmes engendrés (2 éme fusil et encore en panne ,perte du séjour de chasse...etc).Réponse de HUMBERT en gros:Oui nous avons eu des problèmes avec le 828u ,renvoyer nous le ,nous allons le réparer,MAIS AUCUN GESTE DE DÉDOMMAGEMENT OU COMMERCIAL NE SERA FAIT POUR VOTRE CLIENT COMME LE STIPULE NOS CONDITIONS GENERALES. I've been in two minds about the 828u as the reviews are so mixed but certainly keen to track one down for a trial go. certainly prefer the silver over the black as the silver still looks like a classic shotgun and not like the super modern tactical'esque look of the black although both are still sleek and sexy looking...

I don't suppose you might know if there is a specific regulation on cases for flying with other than just being lockable? it seems the ATSB don't care as long as it's lockable... guessing Plano stuff is acceptable.

      Never flown with my guns and in fairness when I do my Krieghoff will be in its Americase. I wouldn't put a gun through baggage in anything that wasn't specifically fitted to the gun. The generic plano ones are simple and cheap, fine for going in the car but not for clumsy baggage handlers.
      For flying I would recommend Peli: www.peli.com/eu/en/product/watertight-protector-hard-cases/large-case/long-gun-case/1750/
      as they are totally idiot proof. I have just checked and they are actually recommended by the TSA.
      A quick check on amazon however shows that Plano also make a case (for half the price) that is TSA approved:
