I have shot one of these as a "rental" gun at my local range. Put well over 500 shots through it over the course of 6 months. And probably other people at that range had rented it as well. That said, I have never experienced any issues with the gun whatsoever. I was about to buy one for myself because I really like the look, feel and shootability of it, but I guess I'll wait now. Thank you for an honest review that also highlights some negative points. Reviews like yours are hard to come by nowadays, everything seems to be a sales pitch.

I've put through lots of rounds and not had a single issue. No ejection issues, no trigger issues absolutely nothing. I look after my kit and take care of it, keep it clean, oiled etc. And it was bought 2nd hand, although in immaculate condition with only 50 or so down the tubes. Love it to bits....and its a real talking point when others see what you got.

I have just gotten a 828u field from GMK… I wanted the sporter, but it was just a little to pricey for just now… I was a little concerned after purchasing it and then discovering all the negative press… that said, I absolutely love it! I guess it suits my style of shooting and that I’m more GTI than R-Royce at heart! - I guess what I’m asking is are you still happy with it?

Well, it is going on 4 years since this video and the question should be has Benelli addressed some of the issues. I recently purchased the 828U in 20 ga, and I have put 200 shells through it without experiencing any of the "catastrophic" problems (failure to eject, failure to switch over, double shots, etc.) mentioned. However, I have had one serious issue that caused me to send the gun in to Benelli two weeks after I purchased it, and that was the stiffness of the safety, which made it impossible to take the gun off safe while mounting it for a shot (as you would do while hunting with it), and binding of the lever that made it impossible to reset the safety and cock the "hammers" before reloading without dismounting the gun and using brute force to move the top lever through its full range of motion. Benelli was most unhelpful in addressing this problem. They measured the relevant spring tensions, found them all to be in spec, and returned the gun without any adjustments. I expect to have the firearm in my hands in the next few days, and if the performance has not improved, I will probably seek out my local shogun expert gunsmith to see if I can salvage my investment. If you plan to buy one of these and your dealer has several in stock, try them until you find one with a smooth lever action.

Good review guys, keep up the good work.
Had mine for just over a year and shot around 3500 rounds with it. Is a bit of a marmite gun but I do love it.
Sadly do seem to be some bad ones out there. Mine went back to GMK around 3 months ago as the bottom ejector would often not fire at all. They changed the ejector cams and it’s been solid ever since. So anyone with ejector issues, send it back for warranty repair as I suspect they’ve improved the ejector design as they swapped both of mine despite the top one working fine.

Very refreshing to see a completely honest review, warts and all but mainly warts. Why should you apologise? A gun which costs over 2K which has the issues you describe should never have been released for sale. It's all very well that Benelli will repair the faulty guns but they seem to be using their customers to trial their products. If they want to send me one to field test I'd be happy to do so but, if I'd bought one and the trigger fell out or the wood split, I'd be heartbroken!

Actually refreshing to see an honest review of this shotgun. I bought an early model and started getting ejector problems after a few thousand rounds. Things got worse from there. Trigger group slop, then forend began to come apart . At current weight the recoil is harsh. Other issue reported: action opening just after shot breaks, It is too bad and needs some redevelopment imho.

Just a though and a question for the more experienced and something I wondered when I saw the trigger housing removed… is the body of a shot gun still classed as a gun when the trigger housing has been removed and taken away or locked away separately from the body of the gun. Would the body still need to be kept in a gun cabinet by law? Might seem like an odd question just something that came into my head for some reason 😂

@@RichardArmstrong97 I’ve used the gun for sporting clays with somewhere around 600 shells through it. I haven’t had any issues so far and have really enjoyed the gun. It took me a few trips to the range to really get used to it but I really like having a lighter gun. I think it makes the swing easier and more pointable and I don’t mind any added kick that would come from it. Removing the pin for the automatic safety was a little trickier than advertised (for my gun at least) but other than that I’ve had no complaints and really enjoy shooting it. you know back in the 60's to 70's they had the ar 17 which had the barrel made of aluminium. they had a few rifles using kevlar wrapped barrels and there is one rifle approved by the us military with a carbon fibre barrel.I would have thought more of the guns marketed as light weight mountain guns would have done this by now.

    • @tgsoutdoors

      @Tuton25 6 ปีที่แล้ว

Carbon fiber barrels in rifles is relatively common, but with shotguns the barrel profile is already pretty slim and you wouldn’t save a ton going to carbon fiber. On top of that, a little weight in the gun helps it balance and shoot better.

If you take off the put pad it will reveal a 13mm bolt head, if you undo this you can change the shims to left handed. There is an instruction chart in the case of which shims will give you different degrees of left hand cast.

Last two trips to the range a guy had a brand new black one. On the one hand they are nice and light for a field gun (not for a lot of clay work thought) and on the other hand, my new silver pigeon 1 20g is 250grams lighter and with the smaller frame feels commensurate for the weight. Oh and its a fair bit cheaper :)

Considering Jon is reviewing the gun at it's newest, first I'd say many of his issues may be crappy maintenence and that it's just a brand new design. Mods will obviously happen just like anything new, Ferrari's and the like especially English made cars. Ha!
Just bought my field gun and I plan on using it in the field for birds like it's made for.

    1. Black is much better than the silver scale finish. Carbon fibre rib seems to be loose at the breach end. They don't hold their value well so you can pick a good one cheap!

Damn, I was thinking of this gun for my wife. If you remember when I visited you, she is 5’1” and quite diminutive. She would like a lighter weight gun, but I know recoil will be an issue. Bearing all that I. Mind, what would be your recommendation for a solid gun for her. She currently uses a Savage 555e (Kofs is UK) 12Ga with low recoil AAA cartridges, but the gun has had problems and Stevens customer service is worse than useless. She had the stock shortened, but I think she needs more drop. I’m impressed with the Syrens and contemplated the Syren Tempio Light, until I saw this Benelli. Your review has me rethinking yet again! Just to remember I’m the Welshman living in the USA with an Invictus and A400 Black edition.

I had one, worst gun ever made for recoil, ok for upto 30gms, make sure your BUPA membership is up to date for anything heavier! Oh and to cap it all off, you loose money on them big time as most gunshops hate taking them inpart exchange. Only made 26 or 28" when I had mine, I had the 28", I would'nt know if the 30" they produce now is any better.

so £2000 for a gun that has a carbon fibre rib which could break, it has a very thin walled forend which could break, it won't eject cartridges, the trigger mechanisim can fall out i'll stay away from that gun like it has the plague and stick to shooting mirokus which have none of them flaws and are in general a better gun

Ditto. I really wanted to like this shotgun and had placed a deposit on one. Then I soon learned about all the issues people, have had with it and there’s way too many. Consistent light primer strikes with the top barrel. Loose lock-up, loose vent rib, ejector failure…. Totally unacceptable and Benelli hasn’t fixed the issues since the gun debuted in 2015. Go with the Beretta 680-series. It’s design is over 3 decades and the gun is virtually bulletproof.

@@colt10mmsecurity68I got one early when they first came out and it came apart when shooting twice 😮 pulled the trigger and the barrels dropped. After the first time I couldn’t enjoy shooting it as I was just waiting for it to happen again. Then it did. That gun went back which is a shame as I shot it beautifully although I’m not sure how the black action would be holding up all this time later 👍🏼

Lets be honest, you have no idea what you think, before you even open the box, the pulleys it turns out aren't pulleys. Then it becomes a second hand gun, obviously the bits aren't where they should be. It starts of heavy, 20 minutes later it's nice and light? I don't think that's an honest review. By the time you finish, you make it clear the key question is; why the hell would you buy this gun? It's a Beretta, or Franchi in drag ffs
