Wow, think this is the first no BS clay video I’ve seen on TH-cam, no selling anything just fantastic advice from two class champs! How refreshing is this! Thanks guys for the effort in doing this, these vids take a lot of time and effort! Subscribed 👍
@@JohnSmith-dg3rd sorry mate went over my head that one. I like Ed to be fair, his entourage on the other hand…. Coaching is very corporate as well, which works for some. What these guys demonstrate is a no BS approach. Refreshing to see. I shoot very similar to these guys hence my comment. To each his own 😉
I watched this video, followed the instructions and after being out only 7 times in my life, and averaging 15/25 I started hitting 20-23/25. Thank you guys
We used to shoot doves in Colombia SA. I watched Alberto LLeras use the same technique. We used 1100s at that time and I decided to try it. Worked like a charm.
Great tips, but sadly all the sporting clay ranges I shoot have very few flat level stands where you can apply the 50/50 weight distribution. Having uneven footing makes the challenge a bit more realistic to actual field hunting.
Really enjoyed the video. I am just starting Sporting and Five Stand after many very good years of trap and Skeet. My trap gun shoots way too high for Sporting. Any suggestions as to barrel length, POI?
Will weight distribution/stance differ for the female shooter? I was taught to lean into the front foot with knee bent and back leg straight. I assumed this was to help with recoil management?
Weird enough, starting with the gun shouldered has always made hitting clays harder for me. Shouldering and reacting mid-flight has made it easier. It seems to he something to do with reacting rather than thinking. My bidy goes into autopilot when reacting, whereas starting already shouldered makes it an active process for me. I dont know if this is a problem per say, but im curious if anyone else has found this to be true for them?
I'm still learning what works best for me, but my very first time out with sporting clays i hit 79 out of 100 and I primarily shot with the gun down first, as you said. I got used to this, as I would practice by throwing one or two at a time by myself then mounting up and shooting. Shot 72 today with mounting up first. Still need more trial and error.
When we shoot sporting clays, we use it as a practice for hunting. So, we start just holding the gun and mount the gun after we say pull…. So it’s slightly different, but I definitely pull away. I just put the bead on the target and then trust my barrel to lead to the right spot.

Outstanding instructional video!
Great video. I want to get into the sport and this was very helpful.
Not much of a pull away, more like maintained lead to me
Think it's a case of "feel vs real" he will have felt a pull away and might be more obvious in other shots

I need more tips on the overhead shot.
My Buddy John Sobalak use to be in this game. He tought me a lot.
Natural hands indeed

So if your hold point is a X, how are you looking elsewhere?

Expectation ❌45°
Reality ✅25°
Maintained lead. Pull away dictates that the gun starts in contact with the target then moves away.

Ha-ha! They skipped the answer to the chokes question! :-D
Great video, nevertheless (choke selection is far less important than most people think...)
Is it just me or was that absolutely NOT a 45 degree angle. Looks closer to 30.
