      The song which Picard was listening to was heard just before Riker walked in. The producers needed copyrighted music to fit over the scene to block it out. Picard was really listening to opera.

      Neither the metaphasic radiation nor the navigational challenges presented by the Briar Patch needed this introduction. Very humanizing scene. Once in the Bria Patch the effects can be seen on the crew, like when Worf oversleeps and gets a zit, or Picard can tell about the phase misalignment just by the sound of the engines.

      @@lauranolastnamegiven3385 Most of the Trek films were not like the tv shows. Trek, on tv, has always been about exploring moral, philosophical and sociological issues with alien worlds being a metaphor for how our own world could be different. When it comes to movies, there’s always the temptation to make it appeal to a wider and more mainstream audience by going the ‘Hollywood blockbuster’ route - by which I mean having a big bad villain obsessed with getting something and jeopardising millions of lives to get it. Of the four TNG movies, Insurrection focused more on the moral issue than having a Shinzon-like supervillain. That’s why it’s often said this feels more like an episode than a movie.

      Oooooooo so edgy. Apologies your ADHD can't handle dialogue. Don't worry though, there are explosions later on in the film to satisfy your childish "wHy ThEy JuSt TaLkInG?" needs.

      How is a great scene? What low standards you have.

  • @atigerclaw
    @atigerclaw 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    I can see why this was cut. The gag's too forced, and the exposition can go elsewhere.
    I can even see someone arguing about it:
    - "But it's funny, and humanizes Picard and Riker to the audience a little more."
    - "Dude, do you REALLY think Picard, in his own quarters, would stack himself up with multiple PADDs, cradle a dish in the crook of his arm, and leverage a cup of tea when he can just, I don't know, NOT do his best Shakespearean interpretation of a cocktail waitress?"
    - "But... FUNNY."
    - "A minute and a half of wasted time to try and pretend Picard is so overloaded with work that he can't set his stuff down for a few seconds to grab tea. All so Johnathan can laugh at Patrick and give us some bit-exposition."

    • @jdunn813
      @jdunn813 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Well, ordinarily he would just tell whomever it was to come in, but seeing as he just spilled salad all over himself, it made sense to screen his visitor. Only a handful of Enterprise crew are on an intimate enough level with Picard that he would allow himself to be seen in what could be a humiliating situation. Riker and Picard are very close colleagues and friends, and he knows that while Riker would be amused by the predicament, he would also keep it to himself. He certainly wouldn't let himself be caught covered in mess by some Ensign No-Name from Deck 24 who was sent up to deliver a PADD.

    Riker: Where are the bagels ?
    Picard: There will be no bagels on this ship as long as I am the captain.

    Picard: I am French, so it is croissants only ! Have I made myself clear ?
    Riker: Perfectly !
