    I will never understand why this scene was cut. This, to me, is the best note to end the TNG era on. Bright, optimistic, and boldly going where no one has gone before.

      +jednoucelovy These things must take a long time to figure out i guess. The look on that Ensigns face at 2:28 though. Priceless. Also Picard saying it was about time. These film people are nuts to take out all these good scenes. I guess they were just not dark and violent enough.

      I disagree. At this point in the film, much of the audience was still reeling from Data’s demise. Ending with the suggestion that he was still ‘alive’ in the memory of B4 was a stronger point to end on. This clip in isolation looks like fun but edited into the final film it would have just made the whole franchise seem to fizzle out - even with the cheesy use of ‘...where no-one’s gone before’ as the final words.

      The scene doesn't work. It doesn't give us any new information other than that the new first officer is someone we've never met before... And who is that man? A generic looking middle aged officer with almost no charisma oozing off of him.
      This would have been a terrible ending to a mediocre at best movie. They made the right call to end with B4 and Picard walking to the bridge with hope.

      Any time I've seen Will Wheaton outside of character, as himself, he is actually a very awesome person. I first experienced his real persona by surprise as a guest host on the old techtv show, 'Ask for Help,' then again on 'Screensavers.' His current web show, 'table top,' is particularly fantastic. In hindsight, I wish the character of Wesley Crusher was allowed to mature into Will's true personality. It would've depicted character growth, humor, wit, & not felt so tight. I wouldn't mind seeing him play a new star trek character in a new series which is more like himself. Richard Dean Anderson & Ben Browder both proved intelligent humor works in science fiction tv shows when done well. Wheaton exudes this naturally.

      These actors all wanted to move on. (Biggest reason they offed Data was because he was aging too quick for the role and just wasn't interested any more.) Though the age thing they get by with Data simply saying he modified his skin to show his age. But beyond that you're talking they had a 7 season series and 4 movies. Something around 15 years of reprising those roles? They were done. No matter how much I would have loved to see the main Trek timeline continue it would have never been with the same people and actors. And I still hate how they killed Data off.

      Data dying was lame esp since the same actor was seen playing an identical role! Had Data died and there was no B4 and no official Star Trek Countdown comic to launch Trek 2009 movie clearly featuring Data as we knew him for years on TNG and the TNG movies meaning he looked like Brent I would be ok Brent wants out I understand that but to show us a identical android played by Brent--it just doesnt gel at all

    • @donskiver
      @donskiver 7 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      It's not that the role was boring for him. He loved the role. It's just that he believed that he had visibly aged out of the role. It didn't think it believable that an unaging android with a child like perspective on everything, viewing everything with wonder, would be believably received by audiences with an old man playing the role. Even though data could alter his appearance at will and "age" himself, Brent Spiner didn't think it "fit" with the character to be played by an older man.

    I just re-watched Nemesis earlier this week. I remember watching this once before and see it again. I am officially naming this the REAL ending to Nemesis, don't care what anyone says! So much more fitting to the original tone of the show. The way it ended in the actual version was stupid. Picard walks out of the room and then they show the Enterprise in the construction scene. Seemed lame. Much nicer to see it flying through space again with one last shot of Picard in the captains chair.

    Since this was a deleted scene, the Pocket Book novels that followed Nemesis made Worf the new first officer. And the Picard prequel novel revealed Worf got promoted to Captain when Picard made Admiral.

    This wonderful scene makes the entire JL thing from STP even more ludicrous. It may have ultimately been left to deleted scenes, but it perfectly exemplifies what Worf, Geordi, and especially Riker - who were as close to Picard as he got to his crew - knew about him, and what the audience knows about him, and that little wink to us is why it's funny and a great final scene for Riker. Shame that Picard's entire character, and the Federation and Starfleet, had to be deconstructed for Dystopian Trek.

      Worf didn't have enough experience to be second in command of a large ship. He only had just recently switched to command division on DS9 after coming from a very specialized unit (security/tactical). His experience onboard DS9 was not even that of the XO officer (Major Kira held that spot) . He was also put on report for the incident where he failed his mission just to save his wife. He would not have been approved by the oversight board for the permanent position. The ship needed an experienced executive officer who didn't need to learn on the job. For Worf to have been qualified, he would need to do a stint as an XO with a less capable vessel, such as a transport or smaller cruiser type ship, and if he passed that, then might be worthy of consideration.

    It was cut because the director had no idea about the history of Star Trek TNG. He wasn't even a fan, as he's documented as saying several times. It's not surprising that Stewart and many other cast members called for an "actors cut" once they saw the finished film. So much was missing (cut) that they felt the end product lacked the necessary ingredients for a proper farewell to the crew. I completely agree. I wonder if, someday, an 'enterprising' film student will finish these scenes and splice them back into the movie.
    One can hope.

    • @jcohasset23
      @jcohasset23 5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      A lot of that is because of the relationship between CBS Corporation and Paramount (which is owned by the current Viacom). They use to be one company as Viacom but when it split in 2005 CBS ended up owning the brand and Paramount the film library even though the shows had been made under Paramount.
      CBS really had no interest in Star Trek until they decided to use it for CBS Access and all of the licensing agreements since 2005 mean that nothing new can technically be canon in Prime including Discovery and whatever they do with bringing back Picard. That licensing agreement is why The Kelvin Timeline and Discovery look so different from Prime- they contractually have to be 25% different. I'm not sure how Star Trek Online deals with the licensing but I'm sure they have to go through a lot to get to use the ships and the numerous Star Trek veteran actors and actresses from all six shows (TOS, TNG, DS9, VOY, ENT, and DIS) to do voice work in reprising their role in the MMO.

      Because the plot had already wrapped up. You can't finish a movie (or a TV episode) with four minutes of light comedy unrelated to the story.

    Though captain picard did mess with captain riker when riker first got on the the uss enterprise d by having riker do a manual docking of the star drive to the suacer section. So it makes scence that captain riker would mess around joking with his replacment as first officer.
