That little nod that Miraidon/Koraidon gives us when it steps in was honestly the coolest things ever, like compare it to when we first meet it and they’re so docile and scared to be in Area Zero, now they out here with main character energy and confidence
yep like they know you will call out to them any moment since the moment they fought the area zero guardian the one who defeated korai/mirai and even killed the professor
0:27 I still don't understand why more people aren't talking about this scene. Terapagos fired ONE shot aimed DIRECTLY at Kieran. That turtle was straight up out for blood after getting master balled. Really makes one appreciate all the the times the player hucked a master ball and the legendary just obeyed us like regular pokemon.
@@CecilleCK63not only that, but it found someone that could be a friend, was then forced to battle said friend, and then was forced into its stellar form by its captor. i’d try to kill kieran too tbh
Terapagos clearly wanted to meet the player and Kieran just interrupted it by throwing a masterball at the back of its head lmao. I can see why the baby turtle got angry at him.
Yeah, they claim the funny crystal turtle was losing control, but that's BS. It was pissed and there was a specific target for its anger. And I think Kieran knows it.
A ton of people expected Briar to be a secret villain, but in all honesty… The way she actually turned out, a person so passionate and obsessive about the mystery left by her ancestor that she's absolutely clueless to the obvious internal struggles of people around her AND the danger she is actively pushing herself and others into… That's way scarier. Watching her happily exclaim "This is the true Treasure of Area Zero!" with all the innocent joy of a kid being given a new toy even when Terapagos's power was clearly going off the rails and threatening us all - that was chilling.
This is the same reckless pursuit of a dream that Sada/Turo had in the Base story too But the AI, having thought things through, knew the danger the Paradox Pokemon posed to the rest of Paldea if they manage to be set loose from the confines of Area Zero.
@@ThyranG I will say there are still definitely pokemon that haven't been released that are kind of central to the plot, so I wouldn't imagine the story is 100% over just yet. Also, I have some suspicions about what Drayton might have been up to while Briar was gone. Maybe there was more to that interaction? Briar also seems to be related to Brassius in some way (similar color scheme, hair, and naming convention) so I wouldn't be surprised if his depictions of purple circles in Artazon have something to do with the Toxic Chain. Just a guess though.
Yeah, I think Briar's arc is meant to be a sort of "good-end" foil to what happened to Sada/Turo; someone who was too absorbed in their passion/dream, but was able to realize their shortcomings before it was too late.
Should have made it so the Master Ball was used by Leon. For a moment it looks like it got caught. But then something is off. The sky is still dark... The Master Ball Glows and a Red Beam of energy descends and literally blows up the Master Ball. But I would keep the part where Zard was ordered to shield us and hop from the explosion. And then Eternatus emerges. Brimming with energy. That would have been the most WTF moment
to be fair Eternatus is still one of those pokemon who couldn't even be defeated by normal mean's here Terapago was beaten by three trainers ganging up on it but with Eternatus it needed not only three trainers but two legendary pokemon to put it down. And as corny as this sounds what makes Eternatus look powerful is the fact that Leon couldn't beat it seeing as Leon is depicted as being the best trainer in the region
This to me confirms some of my own theories (Legends only allow us to borrow their strength and can break out of /any/ ball at any time, its just harder to break a MB) and sets the precedent moving forward that even the Master Ball is no match for a legendary if they really don't want to be with us. Eternatus should've been able to as well(And still might be able to), but it might have relinquished itself after we were able to beat it in battle. Terapagos here didn't get that, Kieran just threw the ball immediately at it without any regard, didn't prove anything to Terapagos, and thus it shattered the ball because Kieran disrespected it and was entirely selfish.
I think the joyful yet chaotic music works perfect for Terapagos, considering this ancient pokemon is almost like a baby that's playing with so much dangerous power that is not entirely understood by everyone in the moment.
@@navybluegacha2119 Ohara? I'm sorry to say I'm sort of out of the loop when it comes to popular internet people of today, so I'm not exactly sure I know who you're talking about.
I will never, _never_ be over how Kieran only snaps out of his funk when we call for his help. Kieran's been so obsessed with strength because he's consistently viewed himself as weak. Before we showed up, he simply treated it as a fact, and even while he's BB League champ, he's still never satisfied because he _knows_ he's not the strongest - he has yet to beat the strongest person he knows. Only then will he allow himself no more doubts that he's strong. (But of course, this doesn't happen.) This becomes crystal clear here at the end: when even catching Terapagos wasn't enough to surpass us, he reverts right back to how he used to view himself. The same kid who fought his way to the top of his entire school, and just minutes before was confident he could beat a wild Pokemon with an unidentified tera type if it just wasn't so far away, is immediately convinced he's useless! Because if he's not the strongest, he's weak, right? And then we, the strongest person he knows, ask for his help. (Because even the strongest person can't do everything alone, and just because someone isn't at the absolute top doesn't mean they aren't strong in their own right.) He never believed in his strength, but we do. He wanted so badly to be us, when all he needed to be was himself. So he pulls himself together, because if we need him, then he maybe he's still got some fight left in him after all. _(So basically what I'm saying is, to make a 2000's anime reference, Kieran had to believe in the us that believes in him-)_
Well written, how could he not believe in himself when the person he admires the most believes in them still even after all they went through? The True Hidden Treasure of Area Zero is quite literally the friends we made along the way
I love how the entire group in the dlc are foils to your frineds from the base game Briar is eager to get to the bottom of area zero, admires her ancestor to the utmost degree, and is pretty much the only reason any of them are there, while arven hates his dad, hates area zero, and wants to leave Instead of nemona, a current champion who is trying to help you grow through the entire game, kierien is a former champion that wants nothing more than to crush you Carmine seems like a team skull level grunt at the beginning of the teal mask, until you get to know her and its clear she is just a bit hotheaded, while peeny appears to be a shy little brit before you learn that she organized the entirety of team star. A lot of other cool parallels make this comparison even better, like how instead of OG turo taking a hit for miriadon, miridaon shields kirien from terapagos. Very good writing
And the Raidon intervenes to defend the Protagonists with confidence, while the first time, it was still was docile and unsure. While I would've preferred Terapagos was fought with the original group, This was still a great group to hang with. Gamefreak finally decided to actually hire good writers.
I always saw Carmine as more of a parallel to Arven. Both come off as standoffish when you meet them, but they grow to like you and grow to value your friendship.
The protagonist saving Kieran is a pretty nice character moment, especially as far as the other protagonists go. Kieran has been...well, lets just say less than stellar, yet they didn't even hesitate to save the kid. That kind and selfless heart is what Clavell loves his students for.
Florian/Juliana don't even seem to acknowledge how angry Kieran has gotten even after the whole Kitakami story, they smile at him when meeting him again here and just comment at most how different he looks
@@shuichisaihope398The protagonist meeting with Kieran at BB for the first time feels like "Hi Kiki! Wassup" completely ignoring the fact that Kieran wants to kill them
I loved that the theme played into the tera raid theme as a gesture like “this is the *reason* for tera raids and teras period” but then it progresses into the chorus as if saying “but dont forget, this is a LEGENDARY Pokémon.”
@@jabariewaters2539 suffering? I dont get that at all. I get the sense more of a cosmic power linked to the terastalization that’s been reawakened and is overwhelming for the protagonist :) the mood isnt of pain. It’s of power.
@@jabariewaters2539 Terastallization may be bootleg mega evolution, but it doesn't have the same effects on the pokemon. Terastallization is completely harmless to the pokemon and doesn't cause pain. Not to mention that Terapagos demonstrates incredible control over its power
@@shadowkingleo7776funny you call terastalization a bootleg Mega Evolution, given that it's oddly true for every other Pokemon.... except Terapagos, whose Stellar Form Terastalization actually gives it +100 bonus BST... a.k.a., the same effect you get when you Mega Evolve.
The moment where Terapagos almost lasers Kieran, but then Miraidon/Koraidon jumps in to take the hit for him is really artful. It is simultaneously Kieran's realization that the real strength of Pokemon is to protect, not to destroy (and it's written all over his face); and also your mount themselves having and using the strength to save someone else, rather than being the one who is saved.
Personally I just realised how human centered this entire game was. Esp. With Kieran. At this point Terapagos isn't the main focus. Not the lore, not anything, just.... Kieran. In previous games it was always the mon's lore that mattered. But here and Legends Arceus? I think it's very clear that the humans are the plot central point. This DLC is crazy, I love how this all just came together. Heck, even in the main game it was still human-driven for the final battle against the AI. All about wants and wishes. Gotta say, GameFreak, you pulled off the narrative technique that I wanted to pull off for a long while. But just one teensy problem. I swear to Kami, make the character a Mary Sue where everything they touch gets fixed most of the time again and I WILL- Joke joke, but that is my only complaint.
When you look back at it all, Miraidon/Koraidon are really only there to connect all of these characters. You seen it in the base story. If the Paradox Pokemon was much like its meaner self, then well...Kieran would've probably never seen the light of his redemption arc
POV: It's Generation 12. They've brought back a bunch of past Legendary Pokemon once again for everyone to catch. You come across this small, seemingly harmless turtle thing. The moment you interact with it, THIS PLAYS.
Ooh really? What year will it be when Gen 12 is on, I would like for that to happen in some region no one ever seen, I'll be seeing u in seven years or so.
I think that by gen 11 we will begin to get multiverse kind of content, Ultra beasts, Dialga and Palkia breaking time and space, the original dragon (Zekrom + Reshiram + Kyurem) all brought or Hoopa asking for our help to bring everything back to balance, while Eternatus fights against Terapagos and Necrozma. Pokemon can go as crazy as it wants after gen 9 😳🤯
Ultra Necrozma’s theme inspires pure fear. Terapagos’s theme inspires pure wonder. But both inspire the feeling of facing an entity that regards you with the same level of respect as a grain of sand.
Ultra Necrozma sounds like a divine, but alien creature with powers unknown to us. Eternamax Eternatus sounds like an anomaly, something foreign, dangerous and uncontrollable, freed to wreck havoc. Stellar Terapagos sounds like a really powerful child from ages ago, awoken in the present and near unable to control it's power, confused and scared.
In terms of ult necrozma. It had finally regained it's true form after so long. Then the player chases it. It knows why the player followed it. And it be damn if after all it went through to gain it's form back just to lose it again
@@ricardozamudio2703No one hates S/V. It’s just that people complain about the framerate and glitches, which aren’t even that bad anymore. No one hates the story or characters though. It’s the best we’ve gotten since Generation 5
Really? Even when compared to Lusamine and her display of insanity? How Lillie grew out of herself and is willing to stop her on her own accord? Even when compared to the majestic showings of Necorzma? Hell, even when compared to the utter insanity of S/V main story's AI and all the bombshells? This is why we went to the shitter, Kieran's storyboard is utter shite and people thought it was amazing
4:37 This moment is so perfect, if you pay attention, Kieran’s eyes get their warm glow back when the theme picks up after being so pale and dead beforehand. He’s happy to be able to help you and be friends again
@SERMareep2007 not really sure why you would considering he was acting pretty realistic imo Your dream gets snatched by some random person and they just act like nothing happened and you're just supposed to deal with it? Another reminder, he's probably like 11
To me, this is probably the most hype moment of the game for now. I ended up fighting Terapagos with only Ogerpon, so it was truly a match between the Teal Mask vs the Indigo Disk. The climactic finale was Kieran supporting the Legendary he cherished so much with a Dragon Cheer and ending the fight with a critical hit Ivy Cudgel
My friend restarted the fight using three mons per each Terapagos' Tera Barrier: Ogerpon, Koraidon, and his ride Miraidon. He said so it all came full circle (since Miraidon saved Kieran before). 😁 Plus that Miraidon is Dragon with Tera Dragon, unlike the Miraidon brother that's Tera Electric. It matched Kieran's Hydrapple, while proving Miraidon was the purer Dragon (Kieran's Tera Fighting, just like Koraidon's). 😅
i mean he mustve been pretty pissed off, i would be too if i recieved a backshot from a master ball after clearly deciding to be with the player character
@@shuichisaihope398I don't know but Terapagos literally attempted to targeting Keiran with Tera Starblast. Yeah, the implications kinda becoming off if you thinking that Terapagos was a newborn and this is the first thing it was felt pissed.
@@stalloneandrew9961 I interpret it as just a of ray of energy going towards Kieran by coincidence, throughout the battle you see rocks fall everywhere with every character barely avoiding getting hit
Its more an "awe struck" type of vibe that you get from the theme (besides the leitmotif from the prof fight which probably is just to symbolize triumph in the face of unlimited power)
So, it was really funny, because I went into battle forgetting to take Scarf off of my Alcremie, I ended up in a bad position with this fight. My friends were watching, and as Terapagos was taking out each of my Pokemon, I was also audibly joining the others asking Kieran to please help me! Then he finally did, and, when my 2nd to last Pokemon fainted, I told my friends "I have a plan" And then I sent out my Alcremie, and instead of attacking, started spamming Decorate on Kieran's Hyrdapple and yelling "GET EM KIKI, GET EEEEM!" and it turned into the entire discord call just going apeshit cheering for Kieran. His Hydrapple got two max power Fickle Beams in a row, we were going crazy. Really, really funny and cool how my complete fumble turned into making it a turnaround redemption moment for Kieran
I used a Dipplin/Hydrapple through the DLC, so we ended up with a total Power of Friendship moment where our twin apples Dragon Cheered each other into Fickle Beam death machines. Love it when gameplay accidentally hypes the story up!
That's honestly amazing, i can only image the closest ive felt to this story is when my zoroark Umbra was the last pokemon standing against Ultra Necrozma and kept tanking hits at 1hp out of love until it KO'd the thing
You know what I just found out about Terapagos. That is was designed after the George the Galapagos tortoise. An nearly extinct tortoise. GAME FREAK LITERALLY KNEW THE OVERALL ARC OF THIS GAME AND NAILED IT HOME WITH THIS SINGLE POKEMON. The meaning of finding your own treasure. The meaning of why the paradox pokemon are here. Terapagos used it's power to find its family, while they were already extinct.
Not sure if you learned about this from your own research or Fawful's Minion. Regardless, when I realized this about the inspirations of Terapagos, it easily shot up to my top 5 all-time favorite pokemon. The pokemon stand-in of Lonesome George just wanted to find their family, even if it searching other timelines where the paradox pokemon came from. By catching and befriending Terapagos, we've basically gave it a new family. Not a biological one, but still a loving family at the end of the day. That'll get you right in the feels.
I love that Kierans ace uses dragon cheer It shows that hes acknowledged his place He's accepted not being the strongest and knows with what strength he has, he can help those around him rather than tear them down Dragon cheer is a move that makes those around you stronger Kieran is a trainer who makes those around him stronger
Leitmotifs and timestamps: 0:00 Area Zero 0:12 Terapagos 0:25 (background) Tera Raid Battle 0:34 (background) Area Zero 0:49 Tera Raid Battle ( 4:25 phase 3 begins ) 4:28 Area Zero 4:43 Tera Raid Battle
There's a little bit of the AI prof theme in there too, background pianos do a bit of it if I'm correct 2:35 is when you can hear it, right after the raid battle part
What I appreciate most about Terapagos is that it basically confirms the idea that most Legendary Pokemon only get caught because they allow it to happen. If Terapagos can easily break out of a Master Ball because it doesn't appreciate that trainer's vibe, what's stopping the other legendary Pokemon that are far mor powerful lorewise?
Hell, back in Pokémon Lets Go, if you throw a Master Ball at Mewtwo, he fricking bats it away with his hand. I can't really explain why he gets caught anyway but this scenario reminded me of that.
Thats what makes catching them feel even more satisfying. Its not the fact its over after 900 ultraballs, its the fact it implies they've seen YOU as worthy to wield their strength.
What's great about this song is that you can feel how the main characters regret coming to the deepest part of the area, and it's a great song that makes you nervous. I love it so much! This game has a lot of battle songs, and many of the songs, like Terapagos, have long loops, so it's a lot of fun to randomly play songs during ranked battles. I love this game!
I don't think it's regret for reaching the deep, but more of fear of what'll happen if they can't contain Terapagos. Fear for Area Zero, and Paldea (and the rest of the world given what we know about the Paradox Pokémon and their danger to the ecosystem and some of them can fly/float)
I know people are mentioning how Terapagos basically aimed at Kieran from the get-go, but a neat detail is the MC reacted so fast that you can see them call for Korai/Miraidon 0:28, you can already see them outstretching their hands out, and they even maintain that same pose after your Partner blocks the Tera star storm from Terapagos Like, what a great subtle detail, the fact they didn't even have to throw their Pokeballs out is great too, since its a good call back to how Koraidon/Miraidon have always been able to go outside their Pokeball _whenever they wanted to_
Let's mention the utter hubris in Ms Briar's demeanor during the entire situation. Seeing her run further and further into the secret area and pushing the other characters into increasingly sketchier decisions, culminating in her glowing eyes of joy when Terapagos is fully terastalizing. I found that to be such a powerful character moment for her, even if it was cut short mere moments later.
It kind of reminds me of Lusamine from the anime a bit, just in the way that her literal passion betrays her and she needs the help of literal children to take it away from her. Both very cathartic/emotional conclusions, and very traumatized children lmao
When I did this in Scarlet, I had Ogerpon out in front after my Flamigo was taken down. Toward the end of the fight, when I took a moment to heal her, Kieran managed to land the final blow on Terapagos with his Dragonite's Thunder. And honestly? I wouldn't have it any other way. See Kieran? You _are_ a strong trainer. You don't need a Legendary to prove that.
For me, Kieran got the last blow with Extremespeed. I think I had just sent in another Pokemon after Kommo-o went down as I wanted to finish it with her but it fell to Tera Starstorm. Needless to say, this was a heck of a battle
My rillaboom was the last pokemon standing on my team and he was on the verge of fainting. I had to land the final blow, but the dragon cheer crit wood hammer helped tremendously
I really thought briar was gonna be evil because she looked very antagonistic in the trailer render, but this climax was so heart filling especially when Kieran finally joined our side after all that’s happened
Kieran: After ALL you put me through, you expect me to help you just like that?! JUST? LIKE? THAT?!?! Player: (Come on, Kieran! Let’s do this together!) Kieran: …fine… Terapagos: FINE?! You’re doing what they say? Kieran: *sigh* They are VERY persuasive.
0:11 OMG, I just realized after all this time...that this small being of the song is supposed to sound like the Terastal sound effect, which sounds like Terapagos's cry. OMG
I really think this fight does the whole 'your friend reconciles to take down the threat' really well. Like when Carmine's Sinistcha fainted I had this moment of: 'oh shit you weren't lying, you actually have no more pokemon, ah shit', only for 4:33 to drop and Kieran, with the same determined scream throws out the hydrapple I once stood against to aid me. The feels this DLC were something else.
I'll be honest I am so glad that this game has no real villain. Antagonists, yes, but nobody who is truly "Evil". Team Star were bullied kids, Sada and Turo were doing what they thought was right, the Paradox Pokemon are innocents torn from their homes and forced to survive in a strange new world, The Loyal Three seem to have been controlled by Pecharunt, Kieran has a... massive load of baggage, Briar wanted to prove that her and Hearth aren't/weren't liars, and Terapagos is just caught between Kieran and the player's squabble. all of them have done antagonistic things, but none of them are evil. Except maybe Pecharunt. And that makes this game pretty unique.
ehhh Sada and Turo were doing less what they thought was right and more just chasing ambition before falling from their own hubris. They still aren't villains, but rather people who would chase their ambitions regardless of what occurred after.
@@voidoflight2420 Exactly this. They were ignorant of the ramifications that would result from transporting Pokemon through time, all to achieve their vision of what a paradise is.
Pecharunt was told to get the masks by an old couple who cared for it (That was shown in "The untold story of Pecharunt") and that further proves your point
The leitmotifs to the Tera Raid Den killed me. This song is literally perfect considering everything that’s happened. I can say, without a doubt, that Terapagos is the hidden treasure of Area Zero.
One thing about this theme that I only realized much later is that parts of it incorporate the games “running away” sound into it. The theme is literally subconsciously telling you *”You need to run”*
the main character has more personality expressed through their emotions alone then the other pokemon protags in their games, seeing that when playing dlc2 made me feel like i was forcefully puppeteering them, with them being blissfully unaware of their main character status i wouldn’t be surprised if they had a bit of repressed trauma from the whole area zero experience
Your Koraidon/Miraidon jumping out to save Kieran was such a power move Remember how it wasn't strong enough to save someone from an OP Legendary which is literally the enemy Koraidon/Miraidon? Well, it was like it had "nope, not happening again in my watch." in its mind.
One thing you can notice here is that the MC never actually releases Koraidon/Miraidon. They've spent the entire game leaving their pokeball when they hear the word sandwich, but here they leave their pokeball with the intent of taking a hit to save Kieran. It's a brilliant bit of bringing their story full circle.
@TheDunsparceGames More expressive, yes, personality, no. Pokémon protags are designed to literally be YOU. In other series such as Persona, I can get a good sense of what kind of character the protagonist is. For example, Joker in Persona 5 is a snarky show off, as evidenced by the cutscenes of him being extra for no reason. While modern Pokemon protags ARE more expressive, they don’t have much personality beyond “generic main character”.
I know, right? The editing in the beginning gave me the same feeling I would get back in Shield when I would start a Max Raid Battle at just the right moment so the music would sync with the Gigantamax ball.
So I always joked that the Tera Raid theme sounded oddly Christmas-y, then *this* plays during the final fight of the story... All the feels... Caught Terapagos on *12/25/2023* 🎉 ...Thank you for the gift, Game Freak 😊
The implications this DLC makes about the concept terrastralizing makes it seem like a power people should never have uncovered in the first place. It’s been a recurring theme since the 3DS era of there being powers at play in this story that were not fully grasping. Ngl it’s pretty rad.
Like how at first mega evolution was seen as a deep bond but USUM made it known the power the Pokemon experience is horrific for them, minus Amphy who just puts on a wig lmao
Nah we need more AI Professor and Evil Professor stuff. Kinda sad they dont get into the tera crystals being parasitic reality benders like the Area 0 research notes hinted at and were rapidly spreading and growing out of Area 0 to the rest of paldea eating an energy out of the world to do so. DLC 1+2 story fell Flat compared to main game.
6:54 this is my favourite part of the song! I was stuck on “Catch it” part for a good 2 mins just listening to this. I almost welled up when this part came along with Kieran cheering us on. I gotta say, Gen 9 music is just *chef kiss*
I can't get over how amazing the tonal shift is when Kieran joins back in. That super upbeat section with the Tera Raid theme just got me so hyped up i statted crying. A great ending to the DLC, had a great time with it.
I'm not going to lie, I had high expectations for the Terapagos theme, and in my opinion it should have been totally in line with the choir piece that starts at 0:48
I do agree, that is my favourite part of the song and would've liked it to continue with that type of energy. However, I still enjoy the imposing feeling they went for considering what a threat Terapagos is to everyone in the area.
Man, Gamefreak's been stepping up their story department lately I'm absolutely on board with it, keep it up guys! Also the music omg, NOT AGAIN *ASCENDS TO THE 7TH HEAVEN*
@Oreca2005 eh Toby only did 5 music pieces, giving him all credit while ignoring people like Minako Adachi, Go ichinose, Junichi Masuda, and the others, really disrespectful to them
@@berubrand2704I definitely agree that the other composers need credit (team star theme is amazing) but tbf this theme specifically is made up of mostly themes that Toby made or at least had a hand in (though I'm honestly not sure who actually made this theme?) . Though it's not like pokemon music wasn't amazing before this gen lol probably the thing with the most consistent quality in the franchise.
I like when Kieran starts talking after Carmine tells him to help, the music changed to a more sad tone like it's reflecting Kieran, also anyone else hear like Zacian/Zamazenta's howls throughout?
Kieran just wanted to beat the MC so bad after all those 5 battles, yet couldn't help the MC because of his actions. But what I love about this is that Carmine tries to tell Kieran to help and puts a lot of hope into him that Him and the MC can beat Terapagos together.
This pokemon is just a little baby who is too excited about its new powers and I love it. Also omfg this theme is so incredibly *beautiful* . This is probably the most magical sounding theme I've ever heard in pokemon. The tera raid battle theme was already one of the top tier themes for me, but this takes it and goes further beyond. Also let me just say, 4:25-5:07 caught me so off guard when I heard that. I'll admit I teared up a little cause I don't know how to explain it, but this really felt like a conclusion for the series with this song. It already felt like with the way base S/V ended it was the end of the franchise, but this fight and this song felt like such a nice conclusion for the series. I know pokemon will never truly end because it's so profitable, but this song really feels like a nice conclusion to everything.
meanwhile, Eternamax Eternatus casually having this as it's dex entry in shield: "Infinite amounts of energy pour from this Pokémon's enlarged core, warping the surrounding space-time."
Kieran finally getting the spark in his eyes and the 2 second shot of the both of you standing side by side gave me chills, what a character arc. Hopefully expand upon it more in the event for peacharunt when they eventually give it out
I like how this combines both the dreadful feeling of the Professor Battle theme, but also that feeling of hope and determination that appears in the Tera Raid battle theme Also, I swear I can hear a bit of Bad Apple around 0:24
YES! Thank you, I'm not the only one who thought that chord progression sounded familiar! Also kind of funny, given how instrumental Kieran's apple Pokémon was throughout his character development.
I think this is Pokemon’s most beautiful song. Most passionate song. The best legendary theme I’ve ever heard. Keep in mind that this is coming from a guy that thinks the one right behind is song is the regi- theme. Somehow, the regi- theme, I just can’t stop visiting it from time to time. But, this song is marvelous.
this fight, man… the cutscenes in this dlc are gorgeous and intense. like i actually felt genuinely terrifying going into this and the difficulty of the fight itself for me kept that energy up. i had only one pokémon of a higher level than it and already had three with reduced health bc i wasn’t taking kieran’s terapagos fight seriously. i spent like 30 minutes desperately juggling one last pokémon left alive with max revives trying to both outspeed and tank enough turns to even use the tera orb. i truly and genuinely was in desperate need of kieran’s help not even joking it meant everything to me. i was right there with carmine and briar yelling like ‘kieran you have to help!’ man this part…
For this fight alone, i brought back my main playthrough team, but substituted Dugtrio for my Ride Miraidon, and let me just say- having it be the literal last hit, after a Dragon Cheer, and then capturing Terapagos in a Master Ball just made me giddy inside. And Terapagos' last typing being Dragon just feels like you're supposed to use the Raidon at the end.
This may be a hot take but I loved the climax in “The Indigo Disk”. Sure Briar’s role was rather flat for me but I enjoyed a lot of the details that pushed Kieran to let go of his grudge. Even with Florian/Juliana -- his fixation -- being strong enough to defeat him, they couldn’t handle Terapagos alone, not to mention Carmine - another person who he had long viewed as strong and dominating - was in no position to continue after her Sinistcha fainted. The fact Kieran snaps out of it with the player calling for help was especially powerful, demonstrating that just because one’s strong doesn’t mean they can do anything. Anyone can be strong and helpful in their own right, and it was only through teamwork that player was able stop Terapagos’s rampage. It was a teachable moment to not underestimate one’s own contributions, and it was pretty heartwarming how Kieran was able to reconcile with the player and his sister through the experience. Some other details I appreciate: 1) Carmine having Sinistcha using Rage Powder. Even down to one Pokémon (to her frustration), she still knew the right thing to do was to help the player as best she could, largely by taking hits for Florian/Juliana (plus its Hospitality ability and knowing Life Dew to restore the player's Pokémon's HP). It reflects the development she gained during “The Teal Mask”. 2) The expansion of Koraidon/Miraidon’s courage in the wake of Tera Starstorm, protecting Kieran and others. Given its experiences with the more aggressive specimen and the consequences of not acting, it reflects the Pokémon’s confidence to fight. (Koraidon was my last remaining Pokémon in this fight too.) And 3) I just love how it shows a Master Ball actually failing and breaking. It’s the first such instance in the games, and it truly amps up the threat level in a way Eternatus in SwSh could only have dreamed of.
i know its a small thing but seeing Briar's crazy little hand movements and body language was so adorable im glad they did it cuz it really shows her obssesiveness and bubbly personality
Kieran's got tears in his eyes after you call for his help.. that tugged my heartstrings a little bit. He really does feel like a little lost kid, and when I refused to catch Terapagos(I wanted to see what would happen if I refused) he insisted that I needed to catch it. Honestly, I understand Kieran, its got to be tough when you aren't the main character, which is probably why a lot of us relate to him, cuz real life sure ain't fair, haha. Still, he's incredibly strong, I'm glad he helped us out in the end. A good character.

If "Paradise Protection Protocol" theme is about the power of friendship and a triumphant hero, this theme is just pure innocent and chaos. A deadly combination
Its crazy how were all just skipping over the fact that Briar literally almost ended the entirety of Paldea and possibly even the world over some history ecstasy.
Let's not act like we weren't releasing dangerous beasts full of malice and hatred capable of destroying entire kingdoms back into paldea because we were trying to impress our hot history teacher earlier.
Toby Fox did such an amazing service to this game! His music really made scenes like this feel alive. He did it in his games, now he's doing it in known game series like Pokémon. Thank you Toby Fox!
I’m pretty sure this piece was a team effort between Mr. Fox, Go Incheose and a third composer who’s also contributed so much to the soundtrack but I can’t put a finger on his name right now. We know for a fact that the Terra raid theme specifically was composed by Toby, which only appears for a brief moment during the hopeful part of the song; All of them did great on arrangement.
I think kerians arc is one of the best written ones in pokemon’s history. All of these characters in these games all focus on finding something or someone they treasure, from the very first minute. Kerian is the ultimate example of the storys themes. His dreams and ideation of the player, at first consumes him. What he thought was his “treasure” he was searching for was your life. Friends, strong pokemon and people who just want to see you win. That shows how looking for one’s treasure can lead to neglecting what is already treasures around you. Much like he likely neglected his sister and relationship with his own pokemon. Much like the professor in the base game. But when the player brings him back around, he learns that he is already treasured and important. When the player reaches out to him, it feels less like a call for help, but more of a realization. Keiran realizes he matters and his treasures should all come from within him. That despite not having your life, he has his own, with his own pokemon and family. It’s really touching and a good arc of appreciating ones life.
lol not even close, his story arc is as forced as it could be especially towards the end If he was one of the best written ones then where would the actually better written ones be at, namely Lillie and Arven
I will never tire of telling people that Scarlet and Violet are great games, and this theme illustrates why. Actually makes you feel like you're facing a Legendary Pokémon.
this game honestly did legendaries right these aren't some fancy pokémon you can instacatch with the master ball you've likely gotten prior to their fight you have to fight them, and earn the right to have them by your side these are the climax of their stories, and their fights and themes make sure to remind you: you're fighting the final boss of their tales
The fact that Terapagos has hints of the Raid theme, area zero, and vs ai professor, plus protection paradise protocol, all at once is such a cool and fascinating way to loop everything in on itself, just like the time loop in the game. Not my fav song by any means, but a masterpiece of storytelling through musical theming
Enjoy to the fullest!😄

A ton of people expected Briar to be a secret villain, but in all honesty… The way she actually turned out, a person so passionate and obsessive about the mystery left by her ancestor that she's absolutely clueless to the obvious internal struggles of people around her AND the danger she is actively pushing herself and others into… That's way scarier. Watching her happily exclaim "This is the true Treasure of Area Zero!" with all the innocent joy of a kid being given a new toy even when Terapagos's power was clearly going off the rails and threatening us all - that was chilling.
This is the same reckless pursuit of a dream that Sada/Turo had in the Base story too
But the AI, having thought things through, knew the danger the Paradox Pokemon posed to the rest of Paldea if they manage to be set loose from the confines of Area Zero.
She’s still the secret villain that set this up to be found..🥴
@@ThyranG I will say there are still definitely pokemon that haven't been released that are kind of central to the plot, so I wouldn't imagine the story is 100% over just yet.
Such a waste of a villain character building
Yeah, I think Briar's arc is meant to be a sort of "good-end" foil to what happened to Sada/Turo; someone who was too absorbed in their passion/dream, but was able to realize their shortcomings before it was too late.
Terapagos breaking the Master Ball gave me CHILLS.
THAT was what Eternatus should've done to be threatening.
Virgin Eternatus vs CHAD Terapagos
Fun fact: Eternatus is the only Pokémon who tries to escape being caught
I think the joyful yet chaotic music works perfect for Terapagos, considering this ancient pokemon is almost like a baby that's playing with so much dangerous power that is not entirely understood by everyone in the moment.
Wouldn’t be surprised if we get another paldea-related game in the distant future that retcons Terapagos to be a baby of its species
So THAT’S why Terapagos had to be fought! It was playing with its own power!
It seems to be about as old as the cavern which is about 2 million years old according to the professors book.
AND THIS BABY TUTEL WARPS PARADOXES FROM ALL SORTS OF TIMELINES TO HERE
OHARA WOULD HATE THIS TURTLE FOR WHAT ITS DOING TO THE CANON
(But of course, this doesn't happen.)
This becomes crystal clear here at the end: when even catching Terapagos wasn't enough to surpass us, he reverts right back to how he used to view himself.
(Because even the strongest person can't do everything alone, and just because someone isn't at the absolute top doesn't mean they aren't strong in their own right.)
He never believed in his strength, but we do. He wanted so badly to be us, when all he needed to be was himself.
So he pulls himself together, because if we need him, then he maybe he's still got some fight left in him after all.
_(So basically what I'm saying is, to make a 2000's anime reference, Kieran had to believe in the us that believes in him-)_
THIS IS SO TRUEEEEE
Well written, how could he not believe in himself when the person he admires the most believes in them still even after all they went through?

Briar is eager to get to the bottom of area zero, admires her ancestor to the utmost degree, and is pretty much the only reason any of them are there, while arven hates his dad, hates area zero, and wants to leave
Instead of nemona, a current champion who is trying to help you grow through the entire game, kierien is a former champion that wants nothing more than to crush you
Carmine seems like a team skull level grunt at the beginning of the teal mask, until you get to know her and its clear she is just a bit hotheaded, while peeny appears to be a shy little brit before you learn that she organized the entirety of team star.
A lot of other cool parallels make this comparison even better, like how instead of OG turo taking a hit for miriadon, miridaon shields kirien from terapagos. Very good writing
And Terapagos is like a combination of your and the professor's Raidon. It starts out nice and "chooses" you but goes insane once it's messed with
And the Raidon intervenes to defend the Protagonists with confidence, while the first time, it was still was docile and unsure.
Koraidon & Miridon are selfless and want to help you while Terapagos wants everybody there dead in an instant.
Terapagos almost kills Kieran, but one of the Raidons killed the professor
The protagonist saving Kieran is a pretty nice character moment, especially as far as the other protagonists go. Kieran has been...well, lets just say less than stellar, yet they didn't even hesitate to save the kid. That kind and selfless heart is what Clavell loves his students for.
Florian/Juliana don't even seem to acknowledge how angry Kieran has gotten even after the whole Kitakami story, they smile at him when meeting him again here and just comment at most how different he looks

Korai/Mirai finally get to do what they wish they could've done for the Professor all those years ago
When you look back at it all, Miraidon/Koraidon are really only there to connect all of these characters. You seen it in the base story. If the Paradox Pokemon was much like its meaner self, then well...Kieran would've probably never seen the light of his redemption arc
Yeah Kairaidon is not going to stand by watch a Trainer/Kid get killed by their Own pokemon
Kind of ironic thinking about how before the professor gave up their life for the 'mon and now they save kieran just the same way.

Like, what a great subtle detail, the fact they didn't even have to throw their Pokeballs out is great too, since its a good call back to how Koraidon/Miraidon have always been able to go outside their Pokeball _whenever they wanted to_
Let's mention the utter hubris in Ms Briar's demeanor during the entire situation.
Same, I did rain dance, and let Kieran land all the thunders
I finished the fight with Koraidons dragon terablast after Kieran used dragon cheer. And yes, it was a crit.
i wiped the floor with this kid with 2 pokemon only (primarina, archaludon)
My rillaboom was the last pokemon standing on my team and he was on the verge of fainting. I had to land the final blow, but the dragon cheer crit wood hammer helped tremendously
I really thought briar was gonna be evil because she looked very antagonistic in the trailer render, but this climax was so heart filling especially when Kieran finally joined our side after all that’s happened

You got that right.
ehhh Sada and Turo were doing less what they thought was right and more just chasing ambition before falling from their own hubris. They still aren't villains, but rather people who would chase their ambitions regardless of what occurred after.
@@voidoflight2420 Exactly this. They were ignorant of the ramifications that would result from transporting Pokemon through time, all to achieve their vision of what a paradise is.
Even pecharunt has an excuse... only it's clearly evident in the game itself.
And it played when Kieran joined in. Like players giving Cheers amidst a Tera Battle. 😊
Honestly I think, entirely unironically, that the real hidden treasure was the friends we made
Terrapagos' design is appealing for the same reason as Lunala, it's gorgeous.

The nod Miraidon and Juliana give each other is so cool, Miraidon left its pokeball to save Kieran and Juliana knows it.
the main character has more personality expressed through their emotions alone then the other pokemon protags in their games, seeing that when playing dlc2 made me feel like i was forcefully puppeteering them, with them being blissfully unaware of their main character status
i wouldn’t be surprised if they had a bit of repressed trauma from the whole area zero experience
Your Koraidon/Miraidon jumping out to save Kieran was such a power move
Remember how it wasn't strong enough to save someone from an OP Legendary which is literally the enemy Koraidon/Miraidon?
The way the music syncs up at 0:07-0:16 with Briar's amazement of Terapagos's true form gave me chills.

Kieran just wanted to beat the MC so bad after all those 5 battles, yet couldn't help the MC because of his actions. But what I love about this is that Carmine tries to tell Kieran to help and puts a lot of hope into him that Him and the MC can beat Terapagos together.

Some other details I appreciate:
1) Carmine having Sinistcha using Rage Powder.
(Koraidon was my last remaining Pokémon in this fight too.)
And 3) I just love how it shows a Master Ball actually failing and breaking.

Honestly, I understand Kieran, its got to be tough when you aren't the main character, which is probably why a lot of us relate to him, cuz real life sure ain't fair, haha. Still, he's incredibly strong, I'm glad he helped us out in the end. A good character.
