- My one envy on the new 4th Gen Tacoma is the 14" Infotainment screen. Owning a 2022 3rd Gen Toyota Tacoma, I've been waiting for the right wireless Apple CarPlay / Android Auto screen upgrade for a while. CartrimHome/Flying High entered the chat with the all new C12 bringing a 14.6" massive screen coupled with vent re-directs giving this a serious factory look. Add that it's 100% plug and play and you have a winner here! Watch while I unbox, Install, configure/set up and give my initial review of the C12 from CartrimHome/Flying High.

BACK IN STOCK!!! 👉 Get yours here: amzn.to/41vpCuU - These are made by CartrimHome via Amazon as Flying High (All the same product) 😁 Please note: YES, the C12 is compatible with the JBL version including the 360 Cam - please be aware that your install might be slightly different than mine without JBL
That’s awesome! A lot of units cause you to lose the Birds Eye camera
When I first saw this product I was 100% planning on doing a video about it, but after watching yours, there's no point because your video was done so well and was very thorough. I've held off changing my head unit for 3 years because most videos don't show the installs 100% and it left me feeling iffy about the compatibility, but you sold me on this one (and I hope they compensate you for it haha) That's why I love your videos, great work.
Thanks for the kind words! I was in the same boat as you - not changing the head unit. I recently swapped my wife's out in her truck and felt a bit more confident on this one. After getting this one and how easy Toyota makes it to swap the head unit, it was a no brainer. Hopefully this video becomes the "instructions" for this unit - I've never been a fan of written instructions anyway.
@@tacomanetwork I hope so too. Anything was better than the silent Demonstration(?) video they posted on their channel
@@OutlierConcepts Yeah, I know they meant well, but a silent video is not good.
Pro tip…(screen) size matters! 😂
Yes it does.....
>Waiting for someone to actually review the CTH unit
>"Tacoma Network just posted"
PERFECT TIMING lol
Thanks buddy! Just a mini review toward the end. I'll probably have an update with other hidden tricks with this screen soon. It's my favorite upgrade to date on my Tacoma
@@tacomanetwork Im not sure if I understood it right but were you showing that you could essentially "reprogram" the steering wheel buttons?
@@OutlierConcepts Yes, although I haven't tried it yet
Hey Rich,
Thanks for sharing this was the best install and well detailed video.
Yeah, a bit long, but I wanted to include as much info for a new user. 😁👍
@@tacomanetwork NO complaints. I did the proto-type R&D T10 head unit for our 3rd Gen trucks back in 2020 and lasted till 2021 when it was cleared for release right after Halloween. I just got my C12 in today and cannot wait to do my install. I'll need to learn the new menus as it is different from the current T10 series that covers the TACOMA 3rd gen, 4RUNNER 5th gen along with 3rd gen TUNDRA to name a few. The T10 made all our lives so much easier than the T8 and T9 head units based solely on the T10's GUI menu interface. Thanks again, Noa
@@HNLSFO1-808 Nice on the testing! This is my first Android user experience besides the one I installed in my wife's truck (I just installed, she actually uses it)
thats insane! never thought of smt like that in a 3rd gen!
It’s honestly the highlight of getting on my truck each day
I like the concept. But not having matching vents would drive me crazy 😵💫
I thought the same thing when ordering….but I hardly pay attention to that now after it’s installed.
@ would be cool if the same company made vents to match as well. Wouldn’t be too hard.
Being that this is an injection molded piece (the bezel that includes the vents) the molds are very expensive - we're talking new Tacoma pricing. Plus the engineering behind the mold to allow enough air to pass through - if you have a circle going to a circle, you'll have a sliver of a "1/4 moon" shape pushing air through. The rectangular vent allows for more air to be pushed through. I'd rather have the same, if not more air come through than matching vents. 😃 My 9-5 is in the injection molding industry and there's a ton that goes into this.
It amazing this is available. So many vehicles won’t tolerate changing the stereo. I’m impressed and hope car manufacturers understand people want better front ends for their automotive stereos. If not maybe Cartrim can shove them out of the way and do this successfully. I have spent over $1500 each on my last 3 cars trying to get decent sound. Crutchfield used to be a big help but not much anymore. Great video! I’ll have to check out the specs on this unit.
I looked this up on Amazon and there are no output specs: power output, signal to noise ect…. But it may be using an off board amp, ? Don’t know.
I left the Amazon link, for US based purchase - they also have their homepage: bit.ly/C12Tacoma. As for your questions - I was hesitant on the built in amp being so small in size, but it pushes my kicker speakers (I got from Crutchfield) very nicely - I pretty much don't need an external amp, or at least don't want one. I have found on the CarPlay side that Apple Music plays louder and somewhat crisper than Spotify - probably has to do with the way the music is encoded. You also have options on the harness to run pretty much anything you want for amps/subs/etc though
Very good video sir, will be purchasing one soon because of your easy install and review !
Thanks for the kind words - probably my favorite upgrade to date!
Good job on the video brother. Looks amazing. Do another video once you get chances to try out the Nova Launcher rather than factory.
Thanks Gary - much appreciated. What exactly is the Nova Launcher? I'm new to Android....

Amazing video brother! Unit looks legit! I may be upgrading soon for my 2018!
Thanks buddy - it should drop right in to your 2018 - it's an easy install. Thanks for stopping by!
Your video made me subscribe and want this thing so bad! Do you think you can do a short follow up video with what new things you discovered or update on pros and cons. I’m really interested
Yes, I plan to do an update video here soon. Probably will go over buttoning up my install (wiring inside the dash) fixing the rear camera quality (with a new camera) other quirks/features I have discovered, etc. not sure of when the video will be out….probably early January
Great video, and im now looking forward to getting one myself. After a couple of questions, of course. Haha
When we place calls, I've noticed the other line hears a hum. With the new system, has anyone noted the same? Also, where did you mount the antennas?
Thanks buddy! I've been slacking on getting an external mic installed - I bought it, but haven't installed it. I know the built in mic isn't the best - but there is a setting to disable the built in mic when using an external. My antennas are still floating inside the dash - when I install the mic, I'll probably just affix them inside the dash - I haven't seen any issues from having them inside the dash
Did you install a new microphone? If so did it automatically use the new microphone or did you have to switch something for it to work?
I haven’t yet, I’m still using the onboard microphone on the unit. It’s okay…..but ai have bought a wired mic and there is a setting in the menus to disconnect the onboard microphone and only use the wired external mic
Amazing video!! Answered all my questions
Thanks for the kind words! Glad to help out
great work on the video! I'm sold on this. how is it holding up so far? any squeaks, or connectivity issues? is there still room to mount an accessory rail on the top?
I'm super impressed overall with this. It's mounted solidly using that included bracket. As for connectivity, I have it set up to launch the app that runs CarPlay and it connects in about 10 seconds every time! I've had maybe 2 times in over a month where the screen will come on with the initial "Android" logo (like it re-booted itself) but then right after, it launched CarPlay)
The only thing dragging me towards the 4th gen was the screen! Kkk thank you!
Me too.....but with this, we can have reliability and a V6 😁
Great video. Thank you for creating this and it looks amazing. 2 quick questions if you use maps / navigation on the CarPlay side, can the map display in full screen? Also with the clarity of the back up camera, could it be from the new screen resolution, and then the resolution set on the stock camera. Wondering if it’s possible to just replace the stock camera with a higher resolution camera in the same tailgate housing to improve clarity?
Thanks for the kind words about the video. Yes, in CarPlay, you can just display the navigation map from your selected app - Google Maps, Apple Maps, etc. it’s full screen and amazing. There’s a toggle button on the lower left side to go from Menu, to full screen to divided screen (top 3-4 apps). As for the camera, the screen is not the resolution issue, it’s the camera and possibly the wiring, but being an RCA feed, it’s limited no mater how you slice it - it’s what Toyota decided to put in the truck. Some have replaced the camera and have gotten slightly better resolution, but this might take a complete overhaul to get 1080p resolution. I’m planning to pick up the slightly better camera and then deal with my overly bright license plate lights and call it a day.
the unit looks amazing! Thanks for the detailed review and installation makes doing it your self so much easier haha. My only question and idk if you have this in ur truck but would the factory remote start like through the app or even key fob be removed with a new head unit?
It really is a great unit and thanks for the nice comments. I do have factory remote start in my 2022 TRD OR, but I rarely use it. I tested it this morning and everything works the same as with the stock radio.
@@tacomanetworkappreciate the response and investigation into that for me! I’m definitely getting this now it looks way too good to pass up!! I think I’m gonna go with the top option one too cause it comes with a more powerful chip and ram for like 80$ more
Is this also a plug & play for sr5 models? Kudos on this video btw, great work!
Yes, It fits any model of 2016-2023 3rd gen. All plug and play. You should be able to follow my install guide
would you lunch a video when you fixed the issue with the rear camera high pixels? i have a 22 tacoma and man the rear camera view is great specially at night and don't wanna upgrade to this and not be able to see anything thanks
I have two issues: 1 LED bulbs in my license plate lights. 2. 14.6" screen with an OEM camera transferring data with an RCA jack. Now, no matter what camera you install, it's still transferring data via an RCA jack with is 480 at best. There are slightly better cameras out there for $30+ but they'l never get you 1080p (or even 720). My truck is a 22 and the rear camera (even on the 7 or 8" screen) wasn't that great.
@@tacomanetwork thanks for the replied, is weird because my oem camera view is amazing on my truck day or night, i replace my crv stereo for android/apple play, and since the screen is bigger than the stock one the rear view sometimes is so hard to see when the sun hits and at night the pixels still look bad if there is light, is the reason i'm holding back on my taco dont wanna have the same issue thanks
Wish they also sold the other stand alone vents to complete the look
Are you talking the round stick vents? I know why they went with a taller more rectangular vent - it was to obtain the most airflow possible. If you redirect from round to round, you’ll basically have a sliver “moon” shape and reduce the amount of air. Hope this explains it
Good step by step. Can you do one for Tundra? The video for Tundra (non English) looks very complicated.
@@Jay107-r9w thanks for the nice comments. Unfortunately, I don’t have a tundra….
Great install video, I do have a question on volume control. Is there a button or controls on the head unit itself or are the only controls on the steering wheel?
Hey, Mumfy - Yes, I found out that if you place two fingers anywhere on the screen (where there's no buttons) and you slide at least one finger up or down, the volume slider is controlled by your fingers. Same if you go left or right, its previous track or next track (opposite of the steering wheel 😬)
Good videa, thanks. Is this one 8-128 or 12-256?
I have the base model (least expensive version)
This looks awesome, but it looks like it extends to towards the passenger side. How would this affect passenger side airbag deployment? Wondering if it will clear or if that right vent will be in the way.
Video and camera angles are deceiving because the entire unit sticks out maybe 1/2" toward the bed - meaning the unit is thicker than the stock bezel. With that, the bezel still clips into the same stock section of dash, so it's not wider than stock. I haven't compared the two side by side for exact measurements, but I'm not worried about it.
Hello, very well done this video, I would like to know if the front camera of a Tacoma 2023 TRD Sport work in this unit too?
Yes, it's capable of the rear, front and 360 camera. Your wiring may slightly vary from mine, as I only have the rear camera.
@@tacomanetwork Thank you very much for your response, after the installation any trouble or something wrong with the unit?
I am still deciding to purchase it
I've had it running in my truck for a week and a half now, no issues to report. It fires up CarPlay so fast and every single time in 10-15 seconds. Minor annoyances: on the android side, it still displays Celsius (although the engineering team has sent me a file to download to fix this) and the back up camera (with my LED upgraded plate lights) is terrible (I showed this in the video) - I should have a solution for the backup camera, so that will be solved too. Really like this unit, it seems like it stands above all other Android upgrades out there and they seem to have a very responsive team at CTH.
will other apps work on this like netflix, apple tv etc ? Also warranty ?
Yes on pretty much all of the streaming apps. I have tested TH-cam, Netflix, Paramount+, etc. Warranty comes from Cartrimhome/Flying High - it's 1 year. If you buy on Amazon with my link, I believe you can get a 2 year warranty through Amazon.
Great video! One question though, (Unless I just missed it.) where do the 4G and GPS antennas get mounted? I noticed they had double sided tape on them, but I didn't see where they went. Do they just get stuffed in the dash with all the other wiring?
This seems like one of the better aftermarket head unit replacements I've seen, and it does look very OE. My only wish is that it had a physical volume knob on it. That may be nit picky, but I guess I'm just old school like that. Again, thanks for the great install video!
Yes, they do have double sided tap on those two - I wanted to test the set up and for filming, I just tucked them into the dash (I'm only using the GPS) and they're working fine. I do plan to pull the screen here and do some OCD clean up - zip tie some wires, stick the GPS, pull the 4G antenna (I won't use it) and probably add an external mic. As for the volume knob, I agree...but the week I've had it installed, I've retrained my self to just use the steering controls. There is a hidden volume by touching the screen with two fingers and dragging to adjust the volume though (I just found this out)
is it supported for jbl taco?
Yes, the C12 will work with the JBL system. Please note that my install covered non-JBL, so you're install may vary (thus the additional wiring harness possibly)
Awesome 🎯
Thanks buddy!
Thank you for the great video. Do I understand this correctly that the OEM mic does not connect to this unit and it does not come with a mic? This seems like it's useless for phone calls unless you run a new microphone somehow.
On the far left of the unit below the driver side vent, there’s a couple of holes where there’s an on board mic. It’s not the best, which is why I picked up a $7 Amazon mic. I know that there are people doing a slight mod to continue using the stock mic. Not sure what it entails, but it is possible.
My oem mic works fine with this unit
Is this able to support aftermarket side cameras to simultaneously turn on with turn signals
I believe it’s possible, as long as they’re tapped into the factory harness, but I only have the rear camera and it works 100%. I’ve also confirmed it works with front facing and 360 camera
@@tacomanetworkcould you tell me who you confirmed this with? I messaged CTH on WhatsApp and they said the 360 camera system is not supported yet.
@ I don’t have the 360 cam, but according to the beta testers in the private group I’m in, they’re stating it works.
Whats the chances of a video about reverse camera setup in more detail. Or some one can link a video?
What specifically? the wiring? there's basically no other "set up" for the reverse camera besides minor things like muting audio while in reverse, etc.
4 Quick Questions:
1) It might just be the camera angle but are there any clearance issues while using the wipers (especially when pushing the stick up past the vent).
2) At 5:14 you installed the 2 antennas. When installing the unit in the dash, did you have to run those someplace/put them in a certain spot or can they just sit wherever? I saw slack on the wires which made me wonder.
3) I have onboard wifi, so do you think will that still work?
4) All of the previous "wireless" carplay mods I've tried, relied essentially a fake wifi network/bluetooth combo, which meant I couldn't use the vehicle wifi AND wirelss carplay at the same time. It looked like this one was simply a Bluetooth connection, so was there anything else involved to connect wirelessly (ie I could use the wifi and WCP).
Thanks
1. Not at all - it is closer than the stock radio trim, but nothing that isn't usable/functional.
2. Yes, if you didn't notice, it was my first attempt installing - and in the world of filming, you always film! I left those hanging in the dash and didn't "click" in the screen before testing. I've left them in for a week, but plan to remove the screen and clan up the wiring - attaching the GPS somewhere and probably disconnecting the 4G, as I won't use that
3. I'm not sure - I believe it will though
4. For CarPlay - you connect via bluetooth. For the Android side, you have to connect via HotSpot/Wifi (for the video). I would imagine you would have the best case scenario - attaching Blue tooth via your phone and your on board Wifi for the android side
Great video! Been wanting to update my headunit on my taco for a while and this one might be it! Quick quesiton i enjoy using carplay through a cable not wirelessly and im not sure if you mentioned it in your video or not but can i still connect my phone to car play using the usb port like i can with my OEM headunit?
Thanks for stopping by! I haven't tested it, but I believe you can - the stock USB plug (where you normally plug in) is still active. Worst case, there's 2 new USB's that are routed from the new head unit that could power it. Honestly, this is the fastest wireless connection I've seen - it connects during the time I put my seatbelt on and in the month I've had it now, it's never not connected.
Have you placed a network service provider yet into the simcard slot? trynna figure out which carrier will it work with
I have not.....I know it works from the FB group, but I don't know which carrier
I’ve noticed it defaults to higher MPG reading on the screen behind the dash, have you noticed this or figured out a setting to adjust to the standard measurement?
I barely went into this screen today and I too noticed that the MPG was slightly higher than my calculated on the dash cluster…..but that dash cluster is always really conservative. If I fill up, it will say 279 miles….yet, I regularly get right over 300 to a tank. The other metrics were dead on though like the RPM’s, trip, odometer, etc.
On a 3rd Gen is crazy. Might just pick this up. I bought a cheaper Carplay but the ram is too low.
@@jesusnavarrete6317 it’s the highlight of getting in my truck now. I got the base model and for CarPlay, it’s plenty fast
I have one coming tomorrow. Anything I need to know? Did you ever figure out how to swap the steering wheel controls? Do you know if the Toyota app will still work and the remote start from the key fob?
Just follow the video - the only difference might be the main harness you will need (my guess is 2016-2019 uses the large harness and 2020-2023 uses the small harness) there is an easy fix for the steering wheel control - on the android side, settings, factory, 3368 confirm, original car agreement, reversing track reversal (switch to off) and yes, remote start still works on the app, I haven’t tried it on the fob
@ Thank you for the help and the very detailed video its gonna help out tomorrow when I go to install.
Can you make another video showing navigation? I'm uncertain why you didn't fix that in this before releasing the video.
I'm assuming you're talking about navigation on the Android side? If so, I mainly use CarPlay. When I filmed this video, it was across several days - one to install and 3-4 days to get used to the unit, know where things were. I also spent another 3 days editing and doing the voice over - you know to cut down hours of video content across 3 cameras into a nice little 17 minute watchable video? I'm sorry I didn't meet your expectations on this 100% free video. Please contact me for a full refund. 🙃
Does this fit a 2019 sr5
Yep, it will fit in any 3rd gen. Please note that your install may slightly vary when it comes to the wiring harness though
Does the unit, retain all of the functions on dash screen, like pitch and roll, miles to empty, air in tires etc? I would love it, if this unit kept all those factory oem features.
Is there a way to change the screen to dark mode?
Everything on your dash display remains - pitch and roll, miles to empty, air in tires. The android side does have additional information that I haven't dove into yet including air in tires and main of the controls that the stock head unit had (I covered this quickly in the configuration section). And yes, on the CarPlay side, you have the choice of Darkmode and Automatic - If in Automatic, anytime you switch your headlights on, it goes to Darkmode. On the Android side is has a similar option, I just usually stay in CarPlay
@tacomanetwork thanks for the info, this looks awesome, might consider since my stock headunit, decides to work whenever it feels like it. I've been without a radio for months now 🤣
How is the radio reception?
It's decent...but you have to obtain that on the android side. I've installed iHeart Radio as a CarPlay app and it sounds remarkable...even better than the stock
360 cam?
Yes, the C12 is compatible with the Tacoma's 360 cam. My non-JBL system didn't have it, so I cannot speak to the install/configuration of that.
Can i be able to install a front view camera? and display it on the screen other than the reverse camera
Yes, this is compatible with the front facing camera and the 360 camera - I only showed the rear as that's the only camera my truck has.
Can you set this to always start with android auto?
Yep, just like always launching CarPlay
@@tacomanetwork Does the unit dim when you turn on the headlights at night?
@@remilaboe1 Yes, it will dim slightly, but also switch to Dark Mode on both CarPlay and the Android side.
@@tacomanetwork thanks for the reply. still happy with the upgrade? I'm buying one this week!

Yes, this is compatible with all 3rd gen’s including the JBL version and the 360 cam. My install did not include that, but I’m sure it’s close.
I likes. Need to investigate asap
I have a link in the video description to Amazon - High Flying is the same company as CartrimHome 😁
Two questions the video doesn’t answer. 1. Does this unit work with the 360 camera system? 2. Is the unit compatible with the JBL Radio?
I couldn't answer that because I'm coming from a non-JBL system with just a rear camera. I have you question in with the CTH group and will update this when I find out
So, I did get confirmation, it is compatible with the JBL system and 360 cam. Please note that my install was for the non-JBL, so your install might vary - it might also explain the additional wiring harness.
Does this support the 360 camera bird eye view?
@@HooyahBalls yes, this system supports rear view, front view and 360. You installation may vary vs. mine though
kind of sucks with the vent not being able to move side to side. what about when you take calls are you using the oem mic? as for back up camera what if you have anytime camera will that work?
@@TheRealJimmy831 the vents do move side to side, just not up and down. They’re pretty tall now and I don’t see a need for the up/down movement. As for the OEM mic, it no longer functions. There is a built in mic on the side of the unit….yo7 can see a little cut out on the left side. I plan to install an externally routed mic, which this is capable of, picked one up on Amazon for $7. Not sure on the anytime camera, as I don’t have one…..but if it installs plug and play on the stock system, it should on this too
I have AT&T WiFi already in my 2022 SR 5 with its own dedicated phone number . Will this connect to the radio head with no hitch ? and does this have the ability to have Sirius XM radio?
For Sirius XM, there's not a direct wire for this, like the stock radio....but you can easily add the app and run it that way. I do the same for iHeart Radio even though there is a radio tuner built in. As for the Wifi - you should be able to connect any available wifi direct through the system. Since I don't have this, I cannot test it....but it should be easily done
I tried going with att but they told me this device does not support the att network, so now im testing tmobile since they recognize my imei in their network, but its not working i have the simcard slot with me and it doesnt show service im kind of lost.
Hey ! So the only question i have is , how does the air feel ? I ask bc i work from mt truck and in the summer is very needed , does alot of air flow through the vents ?
The air feels just as powerful, if not better than stock. The vents are much taller than the stock circles to allow the max amount of airflow.
@ thank you !
Will this work with factory JBL system ?
Yes, it will work on any 3rd gen Tacoma - both JBL and non JBL. Please note that your installation with JBL might be slightly different than mine
Are you able to get rid of the truck animation on the side? Does it have a sim card slot so it can have its own data?

can you still use Sirus radio with this unit
The C12 does not have a direct Sirius XM radio input, but since it's Android based (with CarPlay) you can just download the Sirius XM app and run that through the C12. @@cory7551 Well, that's the complete opposite of my experience. I got the base model, so if anything would lag, it would be mine! I mostly use CarPlay and it connects every time without an issue usually before I leave my driveway. I've experienced no issues with either Apple Maps (which I use the most) and Google maps. On the android side, I haven't used AA, but the native Android side is pretty cool - I use my phone as a hotspot to connect via Wifi and you have full video capability for Netflix, TH-cam, etc. the more I use it, the more I love it.
Does Toyota connect still work with this
Yep, I have the paid subscription (mines a 2022) and everything works - door locks, remote start, tracking, tire pressures, mileage, maintenance, etc
is the sound quality just as good or better than oem?
I think it’s better, and way more configurable. You have that large equalizer and pre set sound stages. You can also control the positioning in the cab. I do have upgraded Kicker speakers, but they sound better than the stock head unit
@@tacomanetwork ok cool. I have 2 10" subwoofers behind the back seats i want to make sure the speakers keep up w them
They should.
Since it works with factory 360, it should work with Anytime Cam (front cam)?
@@joeymhs2004 it should from what I’m hearing. I don’t have those options so it’s hard to show
Any Netflix capability? Other streaming apps?
On the android side it will stream pretty much anything you can add app wise and login.
Hello, I connect my unit today. Everything works normally, but I don’t got no sound , my control the volume on my steering wheel is going up and down, but I don’t got no voice
I disconnect everything and reconnect and I don’t got no luck
What year/trim Tacoma?
@@tacomanetwork 2023 trd sport
Strange. I would pull it back out and check that you're using the exact wiring from mine. I'm in a 22 TRD OR (non JBL) and our installs should be identical (unless yours is a JBL). If you're still having the issue, contact CTH directly for advice.
@@tacomanetwork I return it, the android stereo was defected. I took it to the audio specialist and they told me they don’t have no signal for the speakers. RCA works, but I don’t wanna add amp.
Any speed/responsiveness between 8 and 12gb?
I'm not sure - I have the base model. From what I have gathered from other users is that the upgraded option is great for the Android side when uploading more complicated apps that require those options
can it work with the JBL System?
I haven't personally tested it, but the FB group for this product has users that have installed it with the JBL system
Hey did you happen to figure out the backwards next and previous song steering wheel buttons? I can’t figure it out.
It should be on that SWC app - I'm planning to mess with that a few other things this weekend. Although I'm getting used to going "down" for the next track.
Jk I figured it out. Lol so not through the buttons found in SWC actually. Go to factory> password 3368> original car agreement> then there’s a button labeled “reversal previous and next”
@@davealbanowski4054 Nice - you just saved me 20 minutes this weekend! 😂 That Factory menu is deep with stuff - kind of scared to touch certain things in there.
@@tacomanetwork haha no problem! And yeah dude I agree, mess around in there too much and create a nice expensive brick. lol
Is the GPS independent from the phone?
It is...but I believe if you're using CarPlay, it's based off of your phone
@ I don't use CarPlay that often so I would prefer a standalone GPS. Thanks for the answer
@@k9cop68 the gps on the android side of the unit requires internet/hotspot from your phone or a sim card. google maps is the default map service for the device
man the only thing that would be frustrating is no volume knob
I'm over that now. Steering wheel controls, other wise take two fingers and either drag them up or down on the screen and it opens a slider bar for the volume.
Any fix on camera quality?
gotta find a back up camera with the same resolution as the screen for it to be perfect. otherwise its always gonna stretch to fit the screen unfortunately
The bigger problem with the Tacomas camera system is the RCA connectors. No matter what you do, you’ll only get standard def resolution even is you replace the OEM camera.
Also not for nothing, 2019 non jbl and I had to use the other usb adapter and the larger main harness.
Ah, so it sounds like the larger harness is for the 2016-2019’s and the smaller is for the 2020-2023’s the
Anyone have trouble with the back up camera I tried both video cables as stated in your video but still have no reverse cam any suggestions?
What year/trim is your truck? I have heard that one of the harnesses has the yellow connector labeled wrong...so maybe try that one? Mine worked right out of the gate - I picked the correct version.
Product not available 😢
Should be temporary. They are available on CTH’s website
Follow up - they're back on Amazon: amzn.to/41vpCuU
They're re-stocked on Amazon: amzn.to/41vpCuU
Wait, this isn't an RC car.........😂
😂😂😂
You're funny
Not being able to close the vent is an immediate deal breaker for me. My phone mount sits right in front of the vent and I don't want to cook my phone.
Maybe a different phone mount? I'm using the Peak Design MagSafe mount - it mounts with VHB tape and it solid....no more cooked phones 😁: amzn.to/3P9aICX
Does the oem mic still work to take phone calls or use siri?
As far as I can tell, the OEM mic is no longer connected, but there is a mic hole on the left side of the unit. There is an external mic port of the wiring harness that I’m planning to install a $10 Amazon mic.
@@tacomanetworkAny update on the mic? I use mine a lot for hands-free phone calls. It's the only thing hindering me from buying and installing this. Thx.
Well, I bought it...just got to get the time to install it and test it out
Never understood the whole obsession of bigger screens in cars. So what, you can see what music is playing in a bigger font? 😂 new cars are soo ridiculous. 90% of the time when you’re driving, your eyes on the road
Agreed, but Google maps is really nice along with being able to watch videos when I’m on my lunch. If we played by those rules, we’d all be on flip phones still
Not gonna lie looks like a super cheap Chinese product.. for around 1k that’s a big no for me. Good tutorial though and great video on your part!
Well, everyone has opinions - mine is based on the installation, and over 1 month of usage, it's solid and is easily the highlight of getting in my truck each day. There's nothing "cheap" about it imo - these are the types of product we need from creators like CTH. products that challenge the ho-hum product from mainstream "innovators". Perfect example is DJI - cheap Chinese company, right? They've taken out GoPro in less than 5 versions of their camera vs. GP's 13 versions. They've also take out Rode in 2 versions of their wireless mics. I'm all for new companies coming on and making things better and this is where CTH has shined.
@ you know what you are right! I do love dji products but I see them as a luxury product. I suppose I need to change my perspective on new companies from china. Used to the stereotypical products that come from mainland China.
@@bentboi6969 I'm a big Made in USA guy - but with in reason. If a company has a product that is just better, I'll buy it. My first truck was a 1987 Toyota pickup and then I spent the better part of 25 years in Fords with my last being a 2011 F150 FX4 with the 5.0. I'll probably never buy another Ford because of their now terrible product quality and unreliable EcoBoost motors. As for DJI, I owned a couple of their Drones - the Spark and the Mavic Air3S. Now, I have their Action 4 and 5, Mic 2, Neo, Goggles N3 and their 1,000watt power station. Every single one of them have been top notch and reliable.
