This game is incredible. It gives me old school tactics vibes. The voice acting and art style are top-notch. I ended up buying the Collector's Edition for PS5. I rarely ever buy these editions but this one is totally worth it.
I saw a mix of things here that I really like. The art style from Odin Sphere, the army-building of characters like Fire Emblem...but most peculiar to me was that battle formation that ever so slightly reminded me of Disciples Sacred Lands. Ah nostalgia.
I just started this game, picked it up on the switch, had not a clue what it was like going in, about 6 hours into it and its a lot of fun. The trailer shows a ton of stuff i didnt realize was in the game yet, its great fun.
Agreed that the demo is your best answer, though I am an SRPG veteran and I'd say it's very beginner-friendly. If you don't have any trouble with the post-Awakening Fire Emblem games you won't have a problem here. The RTS aspect is also mitigated by a pause feature so you have as much time as you need to make decisions and then let them play out.
This genre requires you to wrap your head around a lot of information and experimenting, along with learning from mistakes. Beyond that, the game itself has difficulty settings that make it very manageable, and can be changed when you want. Ease yourself in and crank it to what you can handle. Well worth it.
I wonder if Vanillaware handles the development of FFTA3, Advance Wars, and Fire Emblem. The mechanics would be awesome. Welcome Ogre Battle on the next-gen 🎉

I am. The English cast is stellar. I only use subs for live action, if the language is intrinsic to the setting, or if the dub is trash.

Guy must be used to playing mobile games. An auto combat game wont be able to clear lvl 40 enemies with lvl 15 units lol, this is pure strategy
