I'm not gonna get into GOAT debate.
But this guy was on crutches a few months ago, thinking about retirement.
He comes back, wins the first tournament of the year, wins the record breaking slam AO, wins a third consecutive tournament (ATP500), not only beating the current world nº1 and best player of the world in the moment (Medvedev) but also winning 5 straight sets against him.
If this wasn't enough, he's got the best start of an already stellar career at 35 years old. (15-0)
I don't care who the GOAT is, but Rafa Nadal is a living legend that we're blessed to live in the same era and the role model any parents would wish for their kids.
    Can't wait for Roland Garros.

Well he has no real competition yet. No Roger and no Novak (yet), no Thiem, no Wawrinka ( Although I doubt he'll be able to compete at his best again). Why are we surprised? We've known all along that the next gen is not as good as R, R and N. Medvedev is close but not completely there yet. Yes, it is impressive but not surprising. Yes he was injured but now he is fit and you don't forget how to play tennis after 6 months, in fact it makes you hungrier and allows you to be more appreciative to still be able to do what you love, which allows you to enjoy it more and so your confidence grows. Roger did it in 2017 but at least he faced one of the other GOATS. The way he plays and mixes it up, the dropshots, the powerful forehands, etc, impress me way more than his age and beating the players he has faced so far this season. Only Medvedev was a real threat to be honest, in terms of ranking.

@@locali I mentioned Medvedev, he is almost at that level. Well he is at that level but he really has to improve certain parts of his game ( his dreadful volleys cost him the AO and he is mentally not there yet) I mean he should have beaten Nadal at the AO. Look I am just trying to put things into perspective. I hate it when fans get too carried away. Nadal is playing great and deserves a lot of praise. At the same time I think he hasn't been tested a lot apart from Medvedev and he nearly lost against Shapovalov. All I am saying is that Nadal is not enormously better than he used to be. He has always been incredibly hard to beat and as long as he is fit and motivated, that will stay like that. I want Novak , Rafa, Roger, Daniil, Dominic, Stefanos, Sacha and a few others all to compete at the same tournaments. I hate that last year Novak was called the GOAT by every Tom Dick and Harry and he could have won the Golden slam. He almost did and nobody talked about Rafa and Roger. He lost the USO final and the Olympics, got into trouble because of the vaccines and Nadal jumped in, took advantage (fair and square) and now nobody mentions Novak anymore. It's just too opportunistic.

Tennis depends on the surface. Nadal best on clay Federer on grass Joker on har tru record clearly shows. Overall Nadal because his combination of offense and defense makes him the hardest guy to ever win points against. Same in all sports best combination of offense and defense wins. Also has the edge in smarts and toughness over the other 2. Finally Nadal more dominant on his preferred surface than the other 2 -- Nadal on clay the highest level of tennis ever and greatest separation form nearest rival. McEnroe and Sampras approached Federer level on grass. Connors, Lendl, monsters on har tru. Borg closest to Nadal on clay, and while dominant in his day, still not very close.
