Watching Rafa on clay is just… unreal. Even as a Novak fan, I can sit here and watch him beat down anyone on the dirt (besides Novak) any day. If there is one tennis record no one will ever touch is his clay record and the 14 RG titles. The hardest challenge in sports is to beat this guy at Court Philippe-Chartrier. An absolute monster
@@kyledeacon5620 bruh 29-30 is splitting hairs, and so is 23-27, if fed had converted his match points, the head to head would be 26-24 in favour of federer. Also rafa leads novak in gs head to head
It’s so sad that thiem had that bad wrist injury in 2021 and never recovered! Many people tend to forget how good he was. He was playing in an era where the big three plus Murray were at their best and he was the only one that was capable of beating them on relatively regular basis. I’m just glad that he at least won one slam!
I thought Thiem was the most monstrous hitter. Then I saw this match and realized nobody hits harder than Rafael Nadal on clay. Thiem started brutal and kept up for the first 2 sets. But the thing was, Rafa just kept raising the level higher and higher as the match went on, eventually Thiem was totally helpless at the end. That was Omnipotent shotmaking!
Exactly ! Rafa from third set decided to change strategy, he started mixing up strokes, with great determination, going to the net, and became totally unreadable … don’t know how he can do it … it’s huge 😱
5 years later, Nadal is still present, while Thiem has completely disappeared... Nadal will make his last Roland Garros this year. If Nadal wins at Roland Garros this year, it will be one of the greatest sporting achievements of all time.
To place in the intro video Federer and djokovic is like wtf, Borg is dismissed and those two mentioned? LoL they were dominated for the whole career there by Rafa and marketing still is pushing them
Both of them are finished. Nadal can't even get past the first round now and Thiem can't even get past qualifying. Just shows everyone's time ends eventually.
Rafa raised his level so much that towards the end it wasn't even a challenge. I was shocked by the near omnipotent brutality of Nadal's shot making. No one hit that ball harder.
That year, only Federer at 38 got the hardest draw at his slam😢. Novak only had to face nadal at AO. Rafa only need to face roger at RG. But Roger had to face both Novak and Nadal at Wimbledon. Both Nadal and Novak had a bit of luck, but roger didn't got that luxury, else it was his Wimbledon for sure 😢
It looks like an easy 3-0 win at first glance, but I was watching the match live and Rafa was sweating cannonballs to win the first set. Losing it after going up a break was the breaking point for Thiem.
hate on him more, kid. you have never seen his game when he was young . he went toe to toe with djoko in his peak years and on djoko's peak surface , hard court from 2009 to 2014 . a bit of a shame he got that knee injury in the early 2010s and then the plethora of injuries in 2014 to 2016. And he won 8 non clay grand slams. and during the toughest era ever, facing peak fed on grass and then peak djoko on hard. Not like djoko who won half of his titles after fed neared retirement and rafa wasnt even there for half the season since 2018
Yeah that must have been tough for him. But Nadal had no rest day either, right? Thiem could beat Nadal in Best of 3 sometimes, but Roland Garros os a different story. Let's hope Rafa can play another strong tournament this year!
After the second set the beast was unleashed.
Every player's Nightmare to face Rafa in the final of Roland Garros as the" final boss " on Philip Chatrier. Total annihilation.
Imagine slogging it out and going down two sets, how demoralising that feeling would be. An insurmountable mountain nobody was ever able to climb
Sound like facing final boss in video game
I remember the intensity of the first set was absolutely insane
I don’t remember much of it because it was 5 years ago, but all I remember was being mind-blown by the level Rafa got to to get from 2-3 to 6-3.
I miss the old Court Philippe Chartrier when there was no roof. It felt like the Coliseum with two gladiators fighting to the death.
When the games were postponed every time it rained, good times.
Its amazing he never gets bored or under appreciate of winning a french open title.
Nadal to Thiem after this match: "If I wanted to lose to someone it would be you because you deserve it."
It’s a shame the prince was never able to take the thone

The first 2 sets were like an MMA battle on a tennis court. It was really brutal

For me personally, this was the best Rafa's RG outfit ever. Even the 2018, 2021 and 2017 were good.
The 2020 was the best of all
2013 too
2010 was the best for me
2022
Even though he didn't win, my favorite one is from 2015
So maybe let's upload full match?

Philippe Chatrier court is the private patio of Rafa.
Pity it wasn't the Spanish Open on clay. Imagine the mad worship.
It's a shame about Thiem, the injury cut his progress in his game quite a bit...
maybe the best that's never won RG.
Nadal had much more injuries and always came back.
We need a full match!!
Thiem stirred the beast in Rafa by winning the second set...
Rafael Nadal, French Open, the greatest streak in the individual sports.....

A big mistake to try to outgrind Rafa from many metres behind the baseline.
