You missed a key credit in this one. The guy who played "Ogris". His name is Richard Brooker. He was a dear friend of mine. He played Jason Vorhees in Friday the 13th Part 3. He passed away last year. He was a kind man and a good friend.
GoodBadFlicks Thanks. I really enjoy your videos. They've actually made me reconsider my thoughts about a lot of these movies that I just thought were horrible. Now, I want to see them again with this newly gained perspective.
>They've actually made me reconsider my thoughts about a lot of these movies that I just thought were horrible Same here. I did not expect this to ever happen.
At first, I didn't like 2 but I think it was lively enough and witty enough...very 80s! Deathstalker 2 was also a departure from1, but it pretty much went full Airplane...camp comedy! The big three for me are Conan, The Sword and the Sorcerer and Beast master, Excalibur is too dry, Dragon Slayer and Willow too kiddy, but I still like them. You should review Witches Curse, Hercules in the Haunted World and Thunderr!
I've always been a fan of "bad" movies that are entertaining. I can't tell you how many I've found thanks to your videos. This was one of them, thanks.
I'm about 90% certain that the Renaissance Faire you showed at 5:18 is the Bristol Renaissance Faire in Bristol, Wisconsin. Definitely the biggest and best Renaissance Faire I've ever been to. Dozens of permanent buildings and has been going strong since at least the 70's. My Mom started going back in the early days and I only missed one year when I was 16. I try to go as often as I can, even though I live in Florida now.
I rememeber all of these 80's movies you're reviewing.. Saw them when I was a kid (I'm 41 now) I love the sense of humor in these reviews. The Duran Duran one cracked me up in this.
+Ride The Lightning why do you say that? because of it being bad? because of the nudity? or that deathstalker is a womanizer/borderline rapist? of course, these flicks have a certain look and 'style' you generally only find from 'cinema' of the early 80's, but i'm not sure what you mean by 'a kind of movie'.... :)
ryan barker My comment was directed more towards the audiences. People are too PC now that movies like this (and many others) can’t be made anymore, and that’s sad.
Ride The Lightning true, we're more PC now, but 'deathstalker' isn't exactly for your mainstream audiences, and these B-movies are still made. in the 80's, swords and sorcery flicks were more en vogue, so we got a whole slew of these cheap-to-make, one take and print it. we still have that, of course, just not as much in this genre at the moment. there's still a market for more salacious movies in this vein, naturally, but i think there are still some things that even this audience generally draws the line at today that may have been overlooked back then. deathstalker is a pretty-over-the-top 'hero' by almost anyone's standards at any time, eh? lol. going back a little ways, we had 'high plains drifter' as an example of what mainstream audiences would go for then, so i think there's a pretty broad acceptance of these heroes historically, but i can't think of many mainstream movies featuring this kind of protagonist now, as even the bad guys have some redeeming qualities, though i'm not sure if that's just the storytelling style we're in or just being chicken shit movie-makers, lol.
Great stuff, actually the first time I saw Deathstalker it was on a bootleg DVD. Anyone interested in seeing it, I suggest Shot Factory's "Sword and Sorcery Collection" DVD, it includes Deathstalker I & II, Barbarian Queen, and Warrior and the Scorceress. The sequel is like Evil Dead II, it appears to have a slightly bigger budget(?), and it incorporated comedy/slapstick. Also the lead actor John Terlesky is very Bruce Campbell esque.
Dude, love your channel and all your videos That said my only complaint in this video is that there was no mention of the late, great Richard Brooker who portrayed Oghris, who was well known in the horror community as Jason in Friday the 13th part 3 (also the debut of the iconic hockey mask ) Like I said love your work, sir
hey I'm looking at a Sword and Sorcery movie, i watched in the 80s. The only thing I remember about the movie is that the character has a magic sword. If anyone else touched the sword, their hands were on burn. If I remember correctly, he was throwing his sword at the king, when the king grabbed the sword his hand was on burn
Yep, doing all 4. Should be doing part 2 later in the year. Its going to get tougher to do these since they recycle so much footage, especially in the last one.
i'm a firm believer in these bad movies (usually) having a few shreds of redeeming story and character elements that could be turned into a remake/reboot. okay, the story and characters would have to be *really* improved upon, but it's absolutely do-able! hey, if they can crowdfund fucking 'iron sky 2,' certainly there are enough silly folk to see any of these flicks made into an actual viable product, eh? i *love* the idea of a deposed king. then the main character is just a thug what needs to be redeemed. lots of great themes here, but let's just say that corman wasn't the guy to pull it off, lol.
If I got to write a Deathstalker reboot, I'd portray him as a former hero who fell into cynicism over the fact that there was always more evil to vanquish. Have his journey cause him to rediscover his desire to be a hero.
that sounds good, too. lots of ways to bring a hero to his knees, the only problem would be to make it fit into the psyche of a barbarian who tends to be pretty selfish, or at least so we typically think. goodbadflicks claims this is a movie that couldn't be made today, but i wonder if he's seen the 'spartacus' series, which is nothing but gore, sex and people acting terribly. perhaps a movie like that wouldn't make it into mainstream cinemas, though that's not the only venue to show a movie.
GoodBadFlicks on Slayer's farewell tour no less *sad face*. You guys got awesome lineup for it over there in the states as well! Knowing our luck in Wales they'll do a UK tour and skip Cardiff and it'll be supported by a wombles of Wimbledon reunion 😂 Your videos are awesome though, been watching them for the last three days, they've replaced music as the accompaniment to my gaming sessions 👌
I'm sad too that they are retiring but honestly, I thought they were going to when Hanneman died. I'm glad they didn't because Repentless was brutal. However, I understand them wanting to retire. I'd rather they go out on a high note, than keep going well past when they should. Awesome! Thanks! :)
GoodBadFlicks yeah definitely, much the same thoughts on the matter here 👌 I think they only finished Repentless due to the fact they started writing it with Jeff, now it's all said and done I think Tom in particular has arrived at a amicable end to his time touring and fronting the band 🤘
Holy shit! The sword, the chalice, and the amulet is the same formula for Wizards of the Lost Kingdom 2! Another sword and sorcery movie with David Carridine. They used that shit a lot.
Thank you so much for this, I have been trying to find this movie for almost 20 years. When I was in my mid teens I borrowed this movie off a mate (bewbs, sex, pig man sex..basically a pre Internet teen males porn) Well long story short, my mum ended up finding the tape and binned it, before giving me an ear full... ah the memories. Always wondered if there is a proper porn equivalent, closest I've ever found was the crappy world of warcraft one.
Totally worth it. My experience was limited to Deathstalker 3 via MST3k. I saw this set (I'm always on the lookout for such things) at Fry's Electronics and picked it up. Deathstalker 1 was ok, but I really and truly enjoyed 2 (could have lost the wrestling and made it a better movie though).
Another great review love the duran duran joke, this movie seems very morally grey compared to most of the time to bad the full versions film is gone forever. Also saw your Traxx review on that guy with the glasses great work with lupa, funny enough that movie was also very dark lol.
Yo! You should talk about the movie "Frogs". It was the very first horror film that I saw when I was 7 years old. It stars a young Sam Elliot. I used to sneak downstairs late at night when I was a little kid and watch R rated movies on some network that existed before HBO. One night I got to watch "Frogs". The movie came out in 1972 which is the year that I was born. Frogs is not a great movie but it has a certain charm that I will never forget. Please talk about this crazy movie. You rule!
cool i am looking forward to that mate you should do the bronx warriors 3 movies those were bloody good movies i love the way you put a funny spin on the movies you review and enzo g casteralli is one of the all time great b movie directors i love his version of inglouris basterads that was the nuts
Amazon has Roger Corman's Cult Classics Sword And Sorcery Collection (Deathstalker, Deathstalker II, The Warrior And The Sorceress & Barbarian Queen for $16 bucks
I had to go to IMDB to check if the thief was possibly one of Will Arnett's first roles. Totally thought that was him. On an unrelated note, that would make a great video series: "Cheesy 80s movie or Duran Duran video?"
Hmmm...Bloodrayne was kind of similar in that it aped the old school style but it was just a bad movie. Although, Seeing Kristanna Loken's goods was wonderful.
Wait a second...that power sword. they really used one of these cheap wallhanger swords and painted the crossguard with some goldspray?! Holy shit, i somewhere got two of these laying around...and goldspray too-> I HAVE THE POWER!
My favorite in the series was Deathstalker II. That one was bad, but watchable and didn't require Mike and the Bots riffing in order to get through it. :)
I’m re-watching all of your older content and it’s just as good as when I first watched it!
:)
You missed a key credit in this one. The guy who played "Ogris". His name is Richard Brooker. He was a dear friend of mine. He played Jason Vorhees in Friday the 13th Part 3. He passed away last year. He was a kind man and a good friend.
Steven Scales sorry for your loss
GoodBadFlicks Thanks. I really enjoy your videos. They've actually made me reconsider my thoughts about a lot of these movies that I just thought were horrible. Now, I want to see them again with this newly gained perspective.
Steven Scales Much appreciated! :)
GoodBadFlicks make a def con 4 video please
>They've actually made me reconsider my thoughts about a lot of these movies that I just thought were horrible
Same here. I did not expect this to ever happen.
Classic 80s stuff. I lived for it.
A Duran Duran and a Tone Loc reference in one review. I'll buy that for a dollar.
Don't forget about the Spin Doctors and Lady GaGa...Lol
"What do you want?"
"Your name."
"Outside. Wait for me there."
"Hmm. Sounds Scandinavian."
I love the Beastmaster!
No problem! You should check it out and Deathstalker 2 as well. They are the best of the series.
I've always been a fan of "bad" movies that are entertaining. I can't tell you how many I've found thanks to your videos. This was one of them, thanks.

“Climbs on like a Great Dane and goes to town” 😂
Too bad movies like this aren 't made anymore
I really want a modern version of this sort of story, played 100% serious.
and just like the 'classic' its all down hill from 'thats *my* horse'
A kind of movie that would never be made today, and that's very sad.
Ride The Lightning I agree
+Ride The Lightning why do you say that? because of it being bad? because of the nudity? or that deathstalker is a womanizer/borderline rapist? of course, these flicks have a certain look and 'style' you generally only find from 'cinema' of the early 80's, but i'm not sure what you mean by 'a kind of movie'.... :)
satireknight
Yeah, audiences are pussies nowdays.

I remember that when I was younger. Fun film.
Any review that slips in a Tone-Lōc reference is a win in my book. I love your new openings, especially this one. Very creative.

Probably the best put together of the bunch but Part 2 is my fav.
Just watched this on the stream last night. Was a very fun movie!
I need a fantasy movie like this... just no hold bard no shit cgi and just pure barbarism
Thanks! Oh yeah, he just smashes that guy to a red goopy paste. Its so over the top hilarious. Love this movie.
Dude, love your channel and all your videos

Like I said love your work, sir
Thanks! I can't get to everything all the time! :)
Amazing old school barbarian awesomeness!
The poster next to a still from this movie would be the absolute purest example of the expectation vs reality meme.
Deathstalker is my favorite 80's fantasy series, thanks for the review.
snakeoi1sean Thanks for watching!
I guess Deadpool wasn't that groundbreaking after all for having a non-heroic hero, just slightly more snarky and less rapey.
hey I'm looking at a Sword and Sorcery movie, i watched in the 80s. The only thing I remember about the movie is that the character has a magic sword. If anyone else touched the sword, their hands were on burn. If I remember correctly, he was throwing his sword at the king, when the king grabbed the sword his hand was on burn
My younger self spent A LOT of (ahem) "quality time" with the Deathstalker films...
i wonder how many others did as well lol!!!!
I have no idea why, but Munkar's death makes me laugh. In fact, it was enough to make me seriously consider buying the movie.
"Not far away, a woman is being held hostage by the lead singer of the Spin Doctors"
That caught me off guard and I choked
WOW. This is by far my favorite so far.
Classic 80s cheese. Totally worth checking out.
Yep, doing all 4. Should be doing part 2 later in the year. Its going to get tougher to do these since they recycle so much footage, especially in the last one.
Hey, why complain about scantily dressed women. Appreciate the genius of this!
Deathstalker is awesome. I also liked the Overkill reference.
One of your funniest clips to date. Keep it up. And by the way, what's wrong with Duran Duran videos exactly?
i'm a firm believer in these bad movies (usually) having a few shreds of redeeming story and character elements that could be turned into a remake/reboot. okay, the story and characters would have to be *really* improved upon, but it's absolutely do-able! hey, if they can crowdfund fucking 'iron sky 2,' certainly there are enough silly folk to see any of these flicks made into an actual viable product, eh?

Ajajajaja the sound of the jawa was so hillarious xD greetings from Venezuela
Nelson Romero thanks! :)
First one was the best. 2 was ok and I don't really remember much about the 3rd. The tv series was silly but entertaining.
Big time "guy" movies.
I have so many books with Vallejo's work, he is amazing.
Yeah, but he's still Frank Frazetta, Jr. Style was entirely derivative except for use of air brush.
Deathstalker was one of the more fun craptastic movies we reviewed.
lol Beastmaster! Awesome movie. One of my all time favorites.
2 is my favorite of the series as well
The fact that you're into Thrash Metal adds so much to these videos I've found over the last few days aha
Hopefully going to see Slayer and Overkill this summer \m/
GoodBadFlicks on Slayer's farewell tour no less *sad face*. You guys got awesome lineup for it over there in the states as well! Knowing our luck in Wales they'll do a UK tour and skip Cardiff and it'll be supported by a wombles of Wimbledon reunion 😂

The guy in the midriff shirt played Jason in Friday the 13th part 3
jac6995 yep, he certainly was big enough
But now I cant watch that movie with picturing Jason is a belly shirt...
+jac6995 And how is that a bad thing? ;D
Thanks! Tone Loc just fit too perfectly in there :)
Thank you so much for this, I have been trying to find this movie for almost 20 years.

Probably the closest porn equivalent would be the Conan ones.
Funny stuff, clever narration, had me laughing throughout the video.
you made a duran duran reference, i love you
:)

Good review! I recently watched Deathstalker 1 and 2 and they're great fun.
Thanks!
loved Boris valjo's art in the 94 flir marvel cards.
Hell yeah Overkill!
6:40 funny rap from tone loc / funky cold medina
3:20, The only thing that’s missing that would make this Swordquest would be the crown and philosophers stone, lol
planning on it

awesome! I've seen the poster for that and barbarian queen and always wondered about those movies
I might be an old bald guy...but let's see how you handle an ARMY of old bald guys!
Oh poopie...that didn't work...
"Your squad of Navy Seals may be able to defeat Don Knotts...but let's see how they handle an ARMY of Don...oh, never mind."
Probably my favorite review of yours. I could not stop laughing throughout.
+Raven House Mystery Thanks! This was a fun one. That reminds me I need to do part 3
+GoodBadFlicks That would be awesome!
cool i am looking forward to that mate you should do the bronx warriors 3 movies those were bloody good movies i love the way you put a funny spin on the movies you review and enzo g casteralli is one of the all time great b movie directors i love his version of inglouris basterads that was the nuts

Love your old intros
Was just thinking that
Frogs is on the list!
Amazon has Roger Corman's Cult Classics Sword And Sorcery Collection (Deathstalker, Deathstalker II, The Warrior And The Sorceress & Barbarian Queen for $16 bucks
Thank you!
Thanks for this, I too never heard of it, but sounds like a film I should have watched
Duran Duran video...comedy gold!
Thanks! I've got some Nero in mind for the future don't worry :)
Not right away but eventually
Thanks!

This film pales in comparison to the sheer awesomeness that is Deathstalker 2!!
LMAO! @ your tone loc - funky cold medina joke! i swear if i could suscribe to your channel 100 times i would!
Thanks! :)
yeah beastmaster is a classic i love the fact the hero uses animals to beat the bad guys basically it is doctor dolittle sword and sorcerry style
Wait a second...that power sword. they really used one of these cheap wallhanger swords and painted the crossguard with some goldspray?! Holy shit, i somewhere got two of these laying around...and goldspray too-> I HAVE THE POWER!
Don't use 'em both, I think they cancel each other out!
ok...it got better at the end.... good job
I'll check it out
Eventually I'll probably do every post apocalyptic movie from the 80s lol
Jeezus, Cecil, you HAD to quote Tone-Loc?!! LOLOLOLO
took an extra long time to keyframe out the nudity lol
not yet
Love all these movies
This looks fun!! Also being from Central Pennsylvania, I love your inclusion of Pennsylvania Renaissance Fair in the jokes. 😊
That set does remind me of the PA ren-faire a little bit.
Nice Overkill reference!
it seems you have figured it out!
That is one cool name man
Terlesky totally has a Bruce Campbell thing going on.
Deathstalker's persona reminds me of Blondie in the Good, the Bad & the Ugly.
My favorite in the series was Deathstalker II.
That one was bad, but watchable and didn't require Mike and the Bots riffing in order to get through it. :)
and i subbed to your channel ages ago when you done that review on warriors of the wasteland i was hooked
well worth it
I love movies like this! Are the DVDs easy to find or cheap?
Crazy coincidence: I watched this for the first time today, the day after Phil Spector died aged 81.
In time
It knew what it was and reveled in it.
