Sea shanties were songs that sailors would sing back in the day to help the work and day go by easier. Wellerman was a sea shanty that became popular through Tic Tok during the pandemic. There are 5 more songs that Home Free has also added to this medley. Tm had the most fun during this video. He rented the entire Jack Sparrow costume and went over to his brother-in-law's house (I believe) because he had an old fishing boat and stood in it to video it. The song was pieced together by Chance. It was filmed during the pandemic, which is why the guys filmed it in pieces and put it together in studio. It does show some of the playfulness of the guys. Other songs that show off the group's silly side are "Champagne Tast on a Beer Budget" and "All About That Bass" just to name a couple. I have not heard a single Home Free song that I did not like, so you can pick almost any of their songs to react to. But one you have to try is their cover of Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young's "Helplessly Hoping". A fairly short song, but really shows off each of their singing talents.
@@bradclifton5248 You are spot on. The rhythmic beat of a shanty coordinated effort, most specifically when heaving around on the anchor windlass (hauling up an anchor without power had to be a PAIN!) or mooring or sail lines. Only once in my career did I ever use this technique and that was when our small boat cradle lost its engine and we had to hand crank the boat back into position and I sang to my guys (and one gal) who had to lift it by pure strength. But it was more for morale than anything. Another example is the work songs of old prison crews, same need and result.
Chance brought this project to Home Free. The rest of the were skeptical at first but he convinced them to do it. I glad he did. This has been one of their most watch videos. Castanets is the instrument your are trying to think of. Adam ability to create sounds is amazing and can not be matched. Austin was a musical theater major in college and his acting improvisations shows up in videos like these. Great reaction. You ladies have a blessed day.
The TikTok Sea Shanty dance is based off this song. Adam Chance's voice, the beginning of the song, has been heard over a billion times in all the versions on Tik Tok.
@@generationgapreacts A medley is a bunch of songs strung together, it's never just one song. Was really confused at your intro, did you just think this was wellerman?
Chance had wanted to do this for a while and his buddies agreed and yes this was during the lockdown from 3 different states and in their own homes. Great reaction ladies.
Many shanties were designed to make everybody do an action at the same time, such as pull an oar or line. They were sung slower and many crews had a shanty master
How good are these guys? The fun & energy in this is infectious. This was done during quarantine so none of the guys were even together. The editing of this was great & was done in the Tik Tok style. Love all the guys parts, with Tim's rumbling bass underlying it all. And Adam's beatboxing is phenomenal as always including sea swells & castanets. Amazing how he increased the tempo from one song to another.
This was, well a medley of all the most popular sea shanty songs that spread on ticktok a couple years ago. Now, sea shanties are a whole genre in of themselves. A couple of those songs are literally ancient, Drunken Sailor was sung at least as far back as 1830. Sea shanties were sung by sailors when doing work that required people to work together in a rhythm. If they weren't catchy they didn't work so most of them are pretty fun.
Chance had to convince the other guys to do this. He has done a couple of other Sea Shanty songs on his friends' channel The Hound and The Fox, a full length The Wellerman and an original song A Whistling Lad.
From their quarantine songs, you might enjoy Down to the Honkytonk as it shows their home life. Amberly wasn’t in Austin’s bubble, and Adam’s wife is camera shy, but the rest of wives, girlfriends, and kids appear.
All of their lock down songs are awesome! Quarantine, Never Gonna Give You Up and Meet in the Middle are worth watching. And of course GBTUSA is the best!
Everybody could see that you enjoyed this. Home Free will never disapoint you. AND you have just started to react to them . There is so much to listen to. I can recommend ”How great thou art”. 👍👍👍🇸🇪😎💕
One of my favorites of Home Free is a song written by Austin Brown after a break up. The song is called “Love me like that”. It’s a great song and it’s one of the hardest to tell it’s all vocal. A must listen!!
If you like Chance's voice He lead sings in "Can't Outrun You", "I'm Yours", "Born In The USA" ( He does play guitar in Born In The USA like Bruce Springsteen always had his so it's acapella + guitar I guess lol!)
Another song Chance has the lead on, and produced the video for, is *I Can't Outrun You.* OH, and, it's one of my favorites too, so, ... I'm a little bias!
They do whatever they do so well. It's nice that they came together as pals as well as performers. It comes through and it's why the fans are so devoted.
if u wanna check out their best mash up of songs review "The Butts Remix"...combining songs involving ...you guessed it... bums. It is so funny but a very good example of their talent. It is older, before Chance, but Chris Rupp, Adam's brother and founding member, is involved.
This was so much fun during Covid. It was Chance’s idea as he’s a fan of sea shanties. Adam was doing “castanets”. Amazing! Yeah Tim’s bass is amazing too. One thing you need - headphones unless you have earbuds but I can’t tell. Headphones really make a difference. If you like Chance, try I Can’t Outrun You and Helplessly Hoping. Great reaction!
Wow! They’re so creative in the way they use their voices. And then, the castanets sound! So very good! Speaking of them being funny, they have a few very funny videos out there.
If you guys really like the group then you REALLY should see them in concert!! I saw them back in May and absolutely LOVED THEM ❤❤❤❤!! It was so much fun!! I love your reactions!! Have a great weekend!
Fun fact you are just like most of us fries our favorite HF song is the one playing now but in a minute or two it´s the next one we listen to , love from a danish fry
Isn't it FABULOUS!!?? I can't help feeling upbeat and energized by the end of it. Gotta play it again! Next time you hear see if you notice the waves breaking against the bow of the Santiana. I didn't at first either. I just "felt" the motion and the wind and spray on my face 😁
If you like Chance, you might want to check out some of his solo work as well. He does a great cover of Wayfaring Stranger which he recorded with the Fox and the Hound vocal duo.
And if you listen to them with "headphones" it will be your favorite all over again. Did you hear the waves crashing against the ship as the song was playing? Great reaction ladies.
That was all Chance's idea. He had to talk the others into it. Now it's a fan fave at concerts. It's their encore at the last two shows I went to. You'll notice Tim didn't move much; he was standing in a boat.😄
Rob and Chance both lead a bit less often that Austin and Tim but here are a couple examples of songs they each lead. Chance leads in 'Some Girls Do' and 'Sold', Rob Leads in their cover of 'End of the Road' from Boys To Men and their original song, 'Why Not'.
You have brought back wonderful memories. I used to listen to sea shanties when I was really young, to young to go to school, but could run the record player. Thanks for sharing this.
I loved the original which went viril on youtube and homefree more than lives up to the original and more. Great harmony and effects making it really fun and moving.

I love that Chance sounds so good and it was his idea to put this together ❤️. Tim is bass-ing out in this and all the beatboxing is crazy by Adam! Rob is having a blast, you can tell! And Austin goes nuts toward the end. Just good ole Home Free fun -- thanks for reacting to them again!
I love watching the two of you reacting to Home Free. Please react to their cover of “In the Blood”. I truly believe you will love it and it is such a powerful song.
Adam not only did the castanets, he did a crashing waves sound too. He is so talented. Chance has been catching heck because of his Z shirt. Even though this came out before the war in Ukraine.
It's a medley of sea shanties...Sea shanties were used by sailors to keep time while hauling lines and such. They aren't necessarily "pirate" songs. Pirates were and are vile thieving and murdering abusers.

Yes, they did do this during the COVID lockdown. During that time, they released a new recording almost every other week. There are some imaginative videos and great music.
Not only was Adam keeping the beat and doing the castanets, but he was doing the sound of the waves hitting the hull of the ship. I don't know where you ladies are located, but if you liked these sea shanties, you might enjoy going to a local Renaissance faire. They are usually set in the 1600's, but the performers and their costumes, the fun comedy and musical performers, the food, the atmosphere and the shopping... It's so much fun! There's always guaranteed to be pirates there, singing sea shanties, as well as funny pub songs. And guests are encouraged to dress the part too (you can usually rent costumes at faires if you don't have your own), so if you've ever wanted to be a wench, queen or a pirate, your dreams can come true!

"It's like a pirate, sailor kind of medley." It's sea shanties! Its in the title, lul! Sea shanties are a ton of fun, and Home Free really did them justice with this medley.

They’ve done so many banana happy songs on the way! I love your reactions!! Can’t wait for your next one!
Sea Shanty "medley "....medley is more than 1 song that smoothly transition into the next song
Glad you caught Adam doing the castanets - not everyone does! Thanks ladies - always enjoy your Home Free reactions. 😆🍟
not only that, but simultaneously the sounds of the ship hitting waves... bruh.
Sea shanties were sung when hauling on ropes or turning the capstan to keep in rhythm physically.
Another “quarantine” video that’s fun is Meet in the Middle. It was filmed kind of like this one, on cellphones and with some creative editing.
