This song blew me away when I first heard it & I was completely hooked. These guys are all so talented. They lean towards country but they can do any genre. They all can take the lead depending on whos voice is best for the song. They are known for their tight harmonies. Tim Foust is one of the best bass singers out there & their beatboxer vocal percussionist Adam Rupp can simulate any sound. This song is very old & is done in the bluegrass country style. It was used in the movie "Oh Brother Where Art Thou" starring George Clooney.
Home Free is the best--period. It's easy to forget they are completely acapella and make all "instrumental" sounds themselves. In this song they are making a distinct southern (country blues) presentation--it definitely fits the lyrics of the song. Chance doing the jaw harp sound really sets the stage for this song's story, which Austin's twang fits phenomenally. Tim's bass line completely grounds the harmonies and Adam's voice percussion simply cannot be beat. Home Free is the real deal. They are an amazing a cappella group so that means no instruments. The beatboxer is an amazing talent and was doing harmonica, drums and other sounds. Chance (back row, left) did the mouth harp sound. Tim, the bass, has a 5 octave range so he can sing super low and then sing high up with the tenors. Rob (glasses) has a most beautiful voice and Austin (lead here) is very talented. They can sing all genres of music and they all take the lead depending on the song. 😀
