Nissan issues "do not drive" warning for 84,000 older vehicles

- Nissan is urging the owners of about 84,000 older vehicles to stop driving them because their Takata air bag inflators have an increased risk of exploding in a crash and hurling dangerous metal fragments.
Stupid to announce recall without a list of models

My first priority with my Nissan is my (CVT) not my air bag
CVT are garbage, I tried to convince friend not buy used toyota Carolla with 60,000 miles, but people see TOYOTA think great car not always true.
He got lucky he took car to a toyota dealer said fluid in CVT looks good bring it back 10,000 miles fluid changed.
I'll help you with that. Your tranny fluid is underfilled. Drain it. Put 3qts and 10 oz exactly. Use Castrol Universal CVT fluid and change it ever 2 oil changes. There is also paper tranny fluid filter right above tranny from bottom in metal can. You will need to change it. It's paper filter. If you feel like it drop the tranny pan and clean and inspect magnets there. There is second mesh filter there too that you can but don't have to change it. It's for big particles not small onces like that paper filter. I change my CVT fluid every 2 oil changes. I installed 2 addditional magnets in the pan and changed that mesh filter.

Nissan has issued a "do not drive" warning for around 84,000 older-model vehicles due to the presence of recalled and unrepaired Takata airbags. The affected models include:
- 2002-2006 Nissan Sentra
- 2002-2004 Nissan Pathfinder
- 2002-2003 Infiniti QX4
The Takata airbag recall is one of the largest and most deadly in automotive history. At least 27 fatalities and over 400 injuries in the U.S. have been linked to malfunctioning Takata airbags that can rupture and explode upon deployment.[1][2]
Nissan is urging owners of these vehicles to immediately stop driving them and get the defective Takata airbags replaced for free. The company is offering free towing, mobile repair services, and loaner vehicles in some areas to facilitate the airbag replacement.[2]
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has also strongly advised owners to check if their vehicle is under the Takata airbag recall and not operate the vehicle until the airbag is replaced, as even a minor collision can cause the faulty airbags to explode.[1][2]

what is mystifying to me, is how the death number isn't in the thousands. there is/was 10's of millions of affected vehicles that crash every year by the thousands, and ONLY a few hundred hurt/dead?? how???

My 2016 Altima SR airbag deployed when i got into an head on collision last month. No "scrap metal" found when pics were taken, and the investigation was completed. It did its job. Built like a tank without any cabin damage or scratches.
My parents 2009 Nissan Versa had this airbag recall... so they had a loaner vehicle for a long time. Probably many of these remaining vehicles that have not been fixed yet have either been scrapped, sitting idle, or are in foreign countries like Mexico or Latin America.
Same here, we had a 08 Nissan, they gave us multiple loaners for 3 months, and we got to keep the Nissan. Until they had parts to replace the faulty airbags.

The problem here is parts rationalization eg using the same part in millions of vehicles. All done to drive unit cost down.
Just simply remove the airbags from the cars the airbags do more damage than the actual accident does.

You can't because the car cant be registered or used on public roads without airbags. So that will make the car useless unfortunately.

The funny thing is my airbag light came on three years ago. Took it to the dealership. They said $2,300 bucks. I left and never went back. It was something about my car had 41,000 miles on it. Had to bring it in before 36,000 miles
Funny when they say don’t even drive to the dealership when most people have been driving their Nissan since they bought it in 2002 without issues. Well, one still on the road anyway. My neighbor has a 2004 Pathfinder and it’s his daily drive. I don’t even think he knows about this recall because he bought it used 4 years later.

I would like to issue a warning: DO NOT PURCHASE NISSAN VEHICLES! Nissan produces disposable vehicles. Similar to toilet paper or like drinking a beer, the beer lasts for a short while then you throw away the can or recycle the can for a Nickel.

Remember when Ford made a huge recall on ignition switch, the media take their time and tell you the models affected. They assume you can google your VIN or something.

I have a 2008 Nissan Altima SL with the CVT transmission. The car runs and looks better than one that is 8 years newer. A mechanic at the dealership asked me once when was transmission replaced? My answer to him was that it's never been replaced, and it's getting ready to roll 196,000 miles. I maintained all of my vehicles, and they all rolled over 200,000 miles easily without major issues. The exception was my pos 3rd Gen 1992 Firebird, which only made it to 115,000 before I got tired of repairing it every other month and got of it rid for a more reliable car from another manufacturer.

My 2004 dodge ram 3500 has this recall and I’ve been waiting for almost a year. I’m about to just get rid of the whole damn steering wheel and get a quick disconnect steering wheel
The Tekata airbags use smokeless gun powder. Not something renowned for its long term stability in heat & high humidity. When the bag goes off, it can explode or just fizzle.
One of my sons was hit by a logging truck in his Toyota. Every air bag & selt belt tensioner went off. He walked away, uninjured. A year later, I get the airbag recall for his car.
My 2015 rogue had 61000K went to get a scan about a emission light which i replace the gas cap so that fixed that guy say u habe another problem yr transmission is going get rid it so i did before it got worst
Meanwhile, Stellantis issues more severe "do not drive" warning for ALL DISCONTINUED models of Chryslers, Jeeps, Dodges, Rams, Plymouths, & DeSotos!
Takata airbags still has recalls going after 10 years. I had recall on my passenger side airbag completed years ago. What about the 6 other Takata airbags in my car?

Don't have a Nissan BUT I did have a Saab with a Takata... I traded that saab to a chevy dealer for $250 credit towards a new chevy pick-up (saab was leaking gas... and I wanted it gone out of my garage)... I still get recall notices for the takata in the saab... 3 years later after the trade in... take me off the list... its gone.
Glad I always stayed away from Nissan but concerning for whoever owns one that's recalled.
They should have been recalled the 2005 and older Murano, before they revamped the line. Nissan is criminal for that vehicle model and those years.
Hopefully all Altimas are recalled and issued new drivers
In Australia we had this recall 5 years ago so things happen a bit slow in America

I would issue a do not drive warning for any new Nissan.
nothing to worry about as most nissan don't even drive in the first place. they need to recall the transmissions and once their junks are back on the road, recall the airbag
