Good to see a soldier of the NZ defense force going strong to this day.
Both of my families carry titles in all the forces, although few come close to your experience:
-Father's a Flight Sergeant Uniform and Fabric/Graphics designer, and leads the team that makes new uniforms for Air Force recruits in Woodbourne.
-Mother's the Main accommodations and Catering manager for ESS, and manages all the people across the bases around NZ after being primarily based in Woodbourne and Bernham pre-2020. (She is only civil but she makes sure that the military and civil visitors are well-fed and maintained throughout the sites like Waiouru, Devonport, Linton and all the others)
-Family member in my mother's side is a distinguished rank in the army, (Don't want to give too much away for classification reasons but they're along the lines of a 4-star major/colonel [Don't remember which one] that is based in the lower north island)
-I do plan to enlist as an Aviation Engineer in the future myself, but I'm currently gaining life experience and am trying to lose as much weight as possible before going for it (Need the experience before going in, I'm currently overweight for my body class and a bit out of shape after a bad few years prior)
-Great Grandfather served in WWII as Navy (He was a Retired Reverend in Motueka before he passed in his 90's)
      Thank you for your service.

Don’t call us a soldier. We have earned the special privilege of being called a "Marine." Calling a Marine a soldier, to us, is degrading because that is not what we are. Semper Fi.

I just showed my husband this video tonight (he's still in a nursing home). He really enjoyed it and said, "that guy is smart!" I call him my Daniel Boone because he has hunted deer with an 1891 Marlin lever action safety rifle (mine now), has trapped, skinned, and mounted small animals and tanned deer hides, and has fished the creeks in western New York and Lake Erie for walleyes (also other fish) and used to catch frogs to sell or eat their legs, which he loves. Yet, he never learned what you teach. So, thank you.

I have been camping and "surviving" alone throughout most of my life. That being said, I have as yet, not learning from your videos. The "tote" carrier for firewood was absolutely genius. The long fire pit is the first I have seen on the TUBE, not saying there are not others but I just haven't seen any of them yet. I could go on and on about what I saw, learned or was reminded of throughout this how-to but I will just say Thank you at this point. I do have one idea or maybe it's more of a question.
On the first side wall you built, I saw where you drove 4 poles in as you did for the front wall. My question is, was there a reason you didn't use the big tree that was right there? It's a minor point to be sure, but it would save several minutes of labor. If there was a reason you did not utilize the tree, can you share what that was? I don't for a second intend to take A THING away from the great job you did here, I just noticed the tree and and asked the question. Thank you a ton again for the great works you do. Now if I can just catch up on all your other how-to vids....

I see a lot of videos on TH-cam of people camping or staying in the wilderness for a few days to a week or so tops. What I want to see is someone be able to go out into the wilderness with minimal gear and survive a whole year. Of course, for safety reasons, it would be wise to have some method of communication with the outside world and various plans in place in case something happens. But, can a human with just their knowledge and skills and a minimal set of gear survive a whole year in the wild? I don't think it's possible anymore. If a mistake doesn't take you out, and if the wildlife doesn't take you out, a lack of food, lack of water, disease, illness, or weather will. Finding clean water today is dang near impossible. You practically have to treat everything. Even then, unless you can filter it well enough, there is still a good chance at contaminants that could make you sick.
If I were twenty years younger and had the ability, I would attempt a year-long survival challenge, but with some cheats. The biggest cheat, the land would have to be large but close enough to civilization that a clean source of water can be obtained. I would also want to have some way to access the internet to upload videos of my adventure for documentation and as part of my survival plan. I know the perfect property to do it on in my area (a few thousand acres of wilderness that is privately owned and near enough to civilization to make it possible to obtain clean water and access to internet). I just can't physically do what I used to be able to do anymore.
