My favorite version of R2 that I have is the 2008 clone wars 3.75in figure simply because he has a bunch of gadgets packed into him and most figures of that size simply don’t have all that.

Fantastic review dude!!!! Love the detail and time you take to show each tool! I would so love it if SH Figuarts did a Deluxe Line of 6” Scale figures - their R2 is already the best but if they did a spring loaded pop up camera from the Dome and included a few more arms he'd be even more perfect!!!! And thought about being a total geek and listing what his tools did and in which scenes, but therez actually a couple I'm not sure about. The long thin multi section antenna looking arms from either side of his dome were used during the Death Star trench run to repair parts of the X-Wing controls, his taser was used to shock Salacious Crumb and break Leia's Jabba chain, the soldering arm was used to put 3PO back together after falling(blown) to pieces on Cloud City, the Sensorscope/pop up Camera was used on Dagobah in the water and in the sand under the skiff; his radar dish was used to try to find Luke on Hoth, his saw that cut you sliced open the Ewok net trap, his gripper arm wrestled Yoda for the light and many other things and his fine manipulator arm played chess with Chewie.His fold out blue chest strips were used to open the escape pod hatch. I have to go back and watch your video again as I can't remember if I'm forgetting anything (note: I am, there's at least 3 I don't remember!). LOL, wow I'm a dork. But a happy dork that loves R2-D2! :-) I used to think Sideshow was the best, but this R2 is unquestionably the best 12" scale. Amazing!!!!

As much as I like all the accessories, I don't think I'll ever pose him with them attached. Comparing both R2, I do prefer the force awakens one because of the patina, the oil stains, and the overall dirty look. Thanks for the comparison.

R2r2 uses his computer interface arm to interface with system for spaceships. He tends to use the 2 spark projectors in the clone wars to stun droids sometimes.

R2 is the is the only astromech that has all of those stuff, most usually have the eye camera and a hand and the key

Justin, love the reviews! You can actually open those small blue slit panels on the front with magnets instead of your fingernails. Ive been using the magnets to get them open and its really easy and great.

been waiting for this, appreciate all the add on accessories and light up & sound features, it would have been cute if they able to make those feet roll and made the attachable lightpiece to have battery on its own so it'll light up .. but I think nothing will replace my sphero droids which serves as display piece or interactive bots in one, that is if you don't mind the difference in scaling

The sideshow collectible version does have that tray and a full sized table for the hologram. The dome is not metal and the paint is not quite as nice as the Hot Toys one but I paid half the price of the Hot Toys for mine. For the price difference I really can't complain.

Sucks that Hot Toys didn't make the option to turn the hologram lights off separately. They should have included a 3rd light function to turn off the hologram light and just have the remaining lights on.

The light he comes with is the same as the movie because in a empire strikes back in the scene where Luke gets the light out it’s on before he plugs it into r2 and should I worry about keeping the batteries in r2

Why they even bothered creating a sequel trilogy version of Artoo is beyond me. They hardly even use him. Does he even get literally 5 minutes of screentime in all three films combined?

Interesting. The box shows the correct blue and black holoprojector, but the figure does not have it. I don't believe there is an accurate figure of R2-D2 as seen in A New Hope yet. The key defining details for the Artoo seen in A New Hope, involve certain panels. One of the panels on the back should be silver, it was placed there for the same reason as 3-PO's silver leg. His holoprojector should have a black tip, and the round housing is supposed to be blue. (The box shows the correct colors, but for some reason the actual figure omits it?) The last defining detail is the small bumps on the back of his head, above the green and yellow PSI. Those bumps are black in the original trilogy, but blue in the prequels. I'm not sure why those details are left off of every "ANH" specific artoo, when they are practically the only details that separate it from the other R2's through Star Wars. These represent the Empire Strikes Back/Return of The Jedi Artoo better than it does the A new hope Artoo. Not sure what the deal is here, lol.
