    I’m surprised you didn’t mention how it misses corners completely. Dyson chose to exclude a side brush and kept the robot round which means that it simply cannot reach corners at all. There’ll be sand and dust bunnies in the corners of the room because the Dyson is simply not designed to reach into corners.
    I had been waiting years (over a decade in fact) for a Dyson robot but after their first robot, I decided to wait some more. Eventually my Roomba died and I needed a replacement so I got a new Roomba. Then Dyson’s second gen robot came out without fixing the corner problem and still unable to fit under beds and couches. iRobot is a veteran in this space and in retrospect, their experience building robots supersedes Dyson’s experience in building vacuums.

    Dyson's approach to this product is really interesting. It's a shame that the navigation is so slow and cumbersome compared to the leading manufacturers' robots, but it seems that this has the best vacuum mechanics. I'd be really interested to see an air quality test with this. I know the fog test would be impossible, but the ambient air quality test you run on uprights would work. For those with allergies it'd be interesting to know which robo vacs are well sealed. (I'm certain my Neato D7 is poorly sealed given how dirty the dust bin cavity gets).

    I just imported one from Japan. It works perfectly in my American home. It goes under my furniture and goes everywhere my roomba j7 can. It is a shame Dyson didn’t release it in the states, it is better than the 360 eye in every way. It has stiffer brushes, it spins the brush bar faster, the lights allow it to clean under my bed. Also have not had it clog once

    • @Gfindeis

    Interesting. To be released in Japan and Canada initially, “due to a certain home type.” That is say, being released in two countries where it is customary to remove ones shoes when entering a home. Likely nothing to do with unique aspects of their home design. Likely a recognition by Dyson of the limitations in picking up larger particles tracked in from outside.

  • @GainingDespair
    @GainingDespair 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    On the "more airflow doesn't mean more suction" mention it's completely true, there are many types of fans (and granted this might use a different system) but the underlying principle doesn't change. You can have have high air flow but poor suction due to what ever design it uses (or any robots design) the type of fans which produce the most airflow have a fundamental design flaw. They can move more air but they loose significantly more airflow while sucking stuff up. The blades are normally thin and long with large gaps between them allowing for more air to pass thru but under use they also make is a lot easier for the air to flow right back out thru the intake.
    The workaround for this is using wide blades with very little gap, this reduces the amount of air exiting through the intake while also negatively effecting how much air can enter the intake at any given time. The downside isn't huge but with larger fan blades covering the intake will restrict air coming in, however they lose considerable less suction while picking stuff up.
    Really the difference in design comes down to air flow vs air pressure. To some degree they work together but high airflow fans lack the needed pressure to prevent air from being pushed back out thru the intake. Air pressure fans solve this by blocking more of the intake and acting as a physical barrier prevent the air from exiting thru the intake.
    The higher the air pressure the lower the airflow, the higher the airflow the lower the pressure. Both systems work but each has it's pro's and con's and mostly comes down to what is the use case to choose the one which will work best. Airflow is good at moving air thru a unrestricted intake (and as long as it's unrestricted it will preform well, but performance drops sharply once restricted), while air pressure is good at moving air thru a restricted intake but at the cost of overall air flow. When given the two they both work well but air pressure fans are a better general purpose choice (jack of all trades) but in specific use cases where the intake isn't restricted by trash it picks up or for example carpet blocking the intake slight than air flow is ideal but it only really does well in these conditions and performance will be sharply effected if used in less than ideal conditions where air pressure does well in most cases and is punished far less with the down side of less airflow in general.
    Airflow tends to lack the pressure needed to prevent air from exiting back thru the intake (and as long as it's not restricted than it's not a issue) but in general preforms poorly when intake is restricted.
    Air pressure tends to work better overall in most conditions but the wider blades used to pressurize the intake limit the airflow with the benefit of keeping higher airflow even when restricted.
    So yes, more airflow doesn't necessarily mean more suction if performance drops sharply in conditions where the intake is restricted.

    It will be nice if Dyson make robot version of Dyson ball animal 3 with a cord for cleaning big open areas.
    I like how powerful is this vacuum, cleans well and it is self cleaning.
    Having the options to restrict certain areas in the room will be great because I can easily move the furniture around.
    For example. Move the couch or coffee table to the side will allow to clean well and next day I can moved again.
