Excellent video! I own a 380t braava and have been using and abusing it in this coronavirus quarantine. I bought this little robot 3 years ago, and just a few days ago I discovered that I don't need the cube to use it. In fact, it seems that without the cube it works better and has a greater reach.
That hub devours batteries and has no button to turn it off. Like everything about iRobot, by the way. The batteries will completely discharge in a matter of days if the robots are removed from their bases.
Since you don't like to read instructions, you may not have read the 380t's navigation modes. If you hold down the sweeping or cleaning button for a few seconds, the 380t enters a less precise navigation mode. Well, that's what the manual says, but in practice I didn't notice any difference. Yes, useless information eheheh.
But here's a very useful piece of information. The 380t has a USB port. And no, you can not update your firmware, as you will transform it into paper weight if you connect it to a PC. There is a bug that burns (yes, it actually catch fire) the LED circuits if the 380t is connected to a PC via USB and two buttons on the robot are pressed at the same time. So, be warned. No connection to a PC.

I'm less sure about braava (but I imagine it'd be the same), but all Roombas come with a serial port, and iRobot publishes documentation about how to interface with it. Obviously, don't try this if you don't know what you're doing. But you can remote control it, get sensor data, set cleanign schedules, basically everything. I got mine to play the Mario theme in beeps and boops. I'm pretty sure this is what the usb is for: for iRobot themselves to use it, or for developers interesting in "hacking" their roomba.

I have a Evolution Robotics MINT 4200 in white and grey, and it runs like a champ as if it just rolled off the assembly line in 2010. It was built in 2010, two years before Irobot bought out Evolution Robotics and rebranded the MINT to Braava. I have the 240 and I'm very happy with it for my 700sq foot apartment with all hard floors. I also have a scooba style mopping robot the "W400". But the little 240 gets the most use. Its quicker and easier to set up and seems just as effective. Also because of its small size it can get in behind the toilet pan, which no other mopping or vacuuming robot can.

I just got the Braava Jet 240 on Tuesday and I already cleaned my bathroom, hall and kitchen and I love it. It done a great job. I send my vacuum to clean first, then for extra measure I set my Braava on dust first to get up any loose doggie hair then I have it mop. It takes longer, but I am not in any big hurry so it is all good.

  • @williamthomas6106

Sometimes the lower tech option is the best. I have a split level 1100 sqft townhouse. The downstairs is full tile, while upstairs, the only tile floor is in the bathroom.
I suggest getting a second battery. This will allow you to continue to mop using one battery while the other recharges. This allows you to tackle larger floor plans by simply swapping out the battery and pad and moving to the next room or section of a larger room.
I currently use the the mopping pad to do the entryway/kitchen and use the damp sweep pads to "damp sweep" the dining room/living room area.
You can use the "built in virtual wall mode" and it's suggested "left side placement rule" to split larger rooms up into smaller chunks. Doing this will pretty much ensure you wont run into issues with oversaturated pads causing streaks.
I do this when I want to "mop" the dining room/living room area instead of just "damp sweeping".
Using reusable mop heads saves on consumable cost, and the Jet 240 is so quiet. Although not mentioned in the video, the 240's water usage CAN also be adjusted through the iRobot app, which is especially useful for wooden floors. It's just that you need to use Bluetooth to connect to the 240 instead of WiFi, which is pretty much the only real complaint.
I love the m240's size because it can get back in and around the toilet. This is where it's diminutive size is a real advantage.
Overall, I love my m240. It get's into places where the m6 can't. It's easy to move from room to room. And it cleans as well as an M6 for a fraction of the price.

I really liked this review. I think robot mops can be nice little helpers, especially for keeping the house clean in between more intense cleanings, but I also think it is not worth to invest a lot of money in them. M6 is in my opinion too pricey for what it's worth, especially because those mops can help to make the house look more fresh, but they are not enough to actually clean it in the long term. For older people or injured people they are great though.

I agree with your conclusion. I have a 240 and love it. My house is mostly carpet with my kitchen and two bathrooms the only hard floor rooms in the house. I put the 240 in a room, press clean, close the door on it, and let it run. I just don’t see what the m6 would add for my particular home. I couldn’t realistically use the m6 room navigation to have it clean the kitchen and then go on to the bathrooms because after it’s cleaned the kitchen it would then be dragging a damp dirty mop across my carpets on its way to the first bathroom - yuk! The only advantage I see for the m6 would be if my biggest hard floor (the kitchen) was bigger than 150 sq feet but it’s not so it’s the 240 for me all the way. [ Edit: Corrected 150 sqm to 150 sq ft. The little 240 might be good, but not quite that good! ]

i'd love it if you could review the irobot roomba scooba lines from back in the day. you could also compare how they do with the braava. that'd be interesting.

    • @screamtoasigh9984
      @screamtoasigh9984 3 ปีที่แล้ว

I've had both..scooba was way way better but took more work after/before to set it up, like a carpet cleaner if you know what I mean. Filling the tank of water and cleaner, emptying the dirty tank. In comparison, the brava is so easy to set up and replace the pad, no emptying dirty tank, etc. BUT the brava is not really heavy duty cleaning like the scooba. The scooba cleaned like a legit mopping. Th brava cleans like a swifer wet (the sheets, not the pads). The Scooba was built like the roomba, hefty and weighty, the brava is imho too light. The weight puts some heft to scrubbing/mopping like when you push harder on a swifer, the brava can't do that it's too light. So imho, brava is great for bathrooms or general areas but was really lacking in the kitchen/high traffic dirty areas. It's better than nothing but every time I used it, I thought to myself, I miss the scooba. (I had the cheapest brava the 240, the scooba got lost in a move, it still worked years later). If the brava was as heavy as the roomba it might alter my opinion. If it let you choose between disposable pads/scooba tank option it would be a winner, you could choose the best option for the job..

The Braava M6 has a “threshold” beta feature now where you add thresholds on the smart map that you want it to cross. Also, I agree about the dirty mop head but if you run a whole home clean 2-3x per week (I have two dogs), the maps get less and less dirty with each clean. It’s def better at maintaining a clean floor. Also, the detailed clean option is intense and I’m sure cleans better than the 240. Finally, the reusable mop heads clean better than the disposable.

i use a 3rd party reusable mopping pad on my 240 and it works great although it is slightly too tall so the mop is louder for some reason. They even stay blue when i use bleach to clean the pads

i have an arsenal of the 380. i like the washable rags. you would get a lot better results if you roomba-fied the room by picking up the chairs, floor lamp, and other obstacles. swiffer cloths work great too for crud and cat hair.

Yes that's the problem with pushing around the same cloth for too long. It stops picking up dirt up to a point. I personally prefer a rolling or spinning microfiber cloth. Maybe they could design a cloth that goes over a conveyer belt sort of thing. It will rotate to a cleaner side of the cloth after half certain period. Like flipping over a cloth. I even drew the design on paper haha.

    My experience with
Braava jet m6 after 3 months:
very good construction, good cleaning results but software running it just sucks:
    - can't mop in a schedule after i7 (you have to create schedules in each robot separately). It has an option "mop after vaccum" but it works only for manual starting not scheduled
    - it can't return to the base station if was incidentally lifted durning cleaning (if get stuck). When get lost starts clean whole area not only scheduled
    - can't return if taked manually to a spot clean
    - can't set to mop the floor paraller to floor panel layout (as showed in the video), braava choose moping way depend on surface dimensions, and often is against the panel layout. You can't choose the proper way for each room/floor. Smudges are visible when it mops against the layout.
    - base station dock plate gets slippery after wet mopping and often braava can't leave the base, need glue some stickers to get better friction
    - can't use the proximity sensors in proper way,, often hard bumps obstacles like a crazy blind
    - sometime can't find the way to selected room (no obstacles at all), it seems that for each start it calculates differ way, don't know why
    - is much dumber than i7, often get lost, can't find the room or just mop differ rooms that scheduled
    - when get stuck and wait for a help battery is drained fast, when you came back home and find lost Braava battery is so low that it can't finish the job
    - app can't show on the map where is the robot now, it shows only name of the room
    - creating a "smart map" takes a lot of time if you have a big house (need minium 3 training runs), can't copy map to another robot, if you have i7 first and it already has the map it can't transfer it to a new robot for avoid training runs.
    - "smart map" are not so smart, somtiemes show non existent doors between rooms, which need manuall edit and separation (which is a bit tricky)
    - can't edit/correct walls on the map, you can only divide area for separately rooms and name it
    - can't mop rooms in an order selected in scheduler (e.g. 1. Kitchen 2. Living room etc), the order is random. There are rumors that this bug will be removed in a new update.

I found the 240 on Amazon Warehouse as I looking for an inexpensive moping robot to clean lab floors (tile). It's been great for that. Floors definitely feel clean and look clean after it's done. It also works on hardwood floors, even though it's not recommended. Just make sure your hardwood floors are sealed. I would not recommend it on rough surfaces. My basement floor is concrete and the pad gets turn up on the imperfections of an older concrete floor.

I have a Roborock S5 and it’s a fantastic vacuum, mopping leaves a little to be desired. After watching this video I went to Amazon and had a Braava 240 in the cart when I noticed the iLife W400. This was more what I was looking for, it functions like the old IRobot Scooba I had in 2008. I looked on TH-cam and I only found a handful of videos on this machine that weren’t very informative. Could you please review it and any other mopping robots that don’t use pads like a Swifter mop.

I wish the m6 also had a bucket at its base station that you could fill with water so it could refill itself.
Also maybe with some clever engineering it could change its own pad so when it docks it somehow attaches a new pad.
Of course it needs a way to get over those room splitters that’s a big deal breaker.
These 3 changes would make it a guarantee but for me but as of right now it’s not quite good enough.
