Very helpful! Just to be clear this method does not limit the music to just 2 chords. Instead it allows you to generate many different chords by thinking of them as variations of 2 simpler chords with different moods. Since piano lounge music is all about the mood, we don't really need to know exactly what the chord is, just the mood it brings.

Those are two incredibly efficient chords. The C6 doubles an Am7, which are the two more common tonic-functioning chords, the D dim/F dim covers the two subdominant functions, and it also has primary and secondary dominant functionalities for the tonics in the form of B dim and G# dim resp. So while you technically just have two distinct pitch collections, they actually comprise a nearly complete set of functions for the key of C major and its sister key A minor.

I’ve been making music for about 45 years now, and obviously still learn new things from fellow musos from time to time, but, as you grow older, your experience and knowledge grows, so, less and less things are “new” to you, or really an “eye-opener”. This one was, for me bud.
