Than you for much for the inspiration! I'm a kitchen designer with a long history of cabinetmaking. I've been trying to think of how to make extra money on the side using my woodworking skills. I'm amazed by what you can make with just a little wood, bought or found free. The truth is you don't need a lot of tools to get started. I have the basic tools, miter saw, drills, skill saw. I have lots of hand tools, some are bombproof antiques. Your advice about starting with Smalls is genius. I always believed I needed to make big pieces to sell, not so. Smalls are A LOT more profitable and time saving. It's all about cost vs profit. Make jigs to turn the work into a quick and easy task. People have no idea how powerful a jig is in a shop when building stuff. In the cabinet shop I work in we had a huge wall of nothing but jigs. Like you I do eventually need to get a bandsaw. It cuts a fine kerf wasting very little wood, and you can split boards and cut veneer pieces to maximize your wood usage. A joiner is okay, but not necessary especially since I have lots of long hand planes that can do the job of joining boards. Again, thank you so much for inspiring me to get off my butt and start making stuff to sell.

Just “discovered” you a few days ago so hopefully that means TH-cam is shining a light on you as you definitely deserve more subscribers. Been catching up on your videos and hope to see more in the future. Quick question: have you ever been tempted to make money from woodworking full time and if not…why not? Since your products have so much interest just wondering about your decision either way. Cheers brother.

Hey my man! Thanks for watching and the comment! And the answer to your question... yes I have. But that would mean that I would have to get into custom orders. I have tons of requests every day for customs but... I cant stand doing custom work. That takes the fun out of it for me. I like the freedom to do a build and move on when Im tired of doing it. Yea Im odd that way lol.

Hey Matthew! No need to ever apologize for the quality of your videos. It is your content that I come to your channel for, and I have never been disappointed. You are not just a woodworker of a very high quality, but you are also an artist who is able to see things that others can't. If your videos were grainy, and black and white, I would still watch them!
BTW some of my favorite channels are by people who don't even speak English! They are woodworkers, who out of sheer necessity do some pretty amazing things, like make dowel makers out of an old, used circular saw blade or door hinges, or make a table saw out of an upside down circular saw. Something I would never do, but sometimes you have to do what you have to do to woodwork.

I have my old Japanese house now. There is so much room inside the house and nearby storage buildings that it isn't funny. Also, the family I bought it from left a lot of stuff behind -- which also includes a nice bit of scrap wood. I absolutely want to build some stuff again, and I feel that since I'm in Japan, the people here would love to buy custom made stuff like this from an American. I used to build cabinets for several years so I'm no novice with woodworking and tools. I'm going to give it a try!

Im in france and these things are a fraction of the price , a 2 mtr wood obelisk at the garden center is only 35 euros oak beams as classed as firewood basically if its made of wood its cheap as chips

I've been a professional wood worker for forty years , low end stuff to high end including super yacht interiors . been wanting to retire but still need to make money so this looks very interesting to me.

Great video, lots of good info. Quick Q... where do you sell?

I sell local for the time because I don't mass produce anymore. But I have sold on ebay, etsy, and even at markets.

I dont know how you compete with people that are seemingly pricing themselves right out of business, for some of the products you say you sell for $200+ theres people selling them for $40, I'm genuinely curious as to why someone would choose what i sell

I do a woodworking business full time and often have found that the simple "pretties" sell the best. The ones that usually cost the least time and money to make. This is a great side hustle to have! Thanks for the stunning ideas!!!

The obelisk looks like an old fashioned oil derrick or windmill tower. Still pretty cool looking though.

I love how this wasn't your typical, "make cutting boards, or boxes, or a bench"! This was unique stuff that are entry-mid level difficult that look 'tough to make'
