4 bore rifle The long, illustrious history of the 4-gauge rifle goes back to the days of the muzzleloaders first employed against the pachyderms of India and Africa. These guns reached perfection with the advent of the breech-loading cartridge guns. The standard load was 14 drams of black powder behind a 1,882-grain slug, which would give an approximate velocity of 1,200 to 1,400 feet per second. The immense unbridled power of a shoulder gun firing the maximum load for a ship’s swivel cannon generated 300 pounds of recoil energy in a 22-pound rifle.
@@coldpyre2491 John Ross channel has a hunting video from Zim he made in the 80s with a 4bore and blackpowder on buffalo,it rolls good that heavy bullet on the buff, but so do he in recoil.
First off, my 15 month old could not take his eyes off you. He was smiling the whole time sitting in my lap watching you. Love it! Second, the muzzle energy from the 500 pushing the leaves around was really cool!

I thought it was a great idea. Not so much for kids, but for anyone who isn’t familiar with rifle cartridge sizes. I’d imagine there aren’t many people in the YT demographic that havent been shot with a nerf gun.
It's also a great idea for the size comparison because not everyone knows the sizes of particular rounds but everyone has seen or has nerf darts lying around the house to make the size comparison

I can assure you that it is not fragile. The R8 is a very high quality german gun. It was tested by DEVA with overloaded .375 H&H cartridges and could withstand a pressure of about 14,000 bar without breaking of the action.
The best thing about the Blaser R8 is that there are tons of interchangeable barrels. You don't need to worry about the gas pressure, the weapon has already been tested with more than twice the permissible gas pressure and has held up

Blaser R8 is the best bolt gun in the world. I use a 458 win and 500 R8 in Africa yearly, a R8 for my deer gun, a R8 for my varmint rifle. A de-cocker instead of a safety, shorter rifle due to magazine being located on top of the trigger, completely modular. Once you go R8... you never go back.

The Blaser R8 is super tough, dont worry about it. Its the rifle most german hunters use here, you can see them all over the place, despite the price. Its amazingly accurate too.
Great, classic cartridge. Developed to replace the .450 NE when many British colonies banned the ownership of .45 caliber rifles. The natives could pull bullets from the cases and use them to handload ammo for stolen or captured .450/577 Martini-Henry Rifles. Sounds like a lot of trouble to me, but that was the reason. The .458 Win Mag was developed to duplicate the ballistics of the .450 and .470 NE in a smaller case suitable for "standard" length bolt action rifles. It succeeded in this but at the cost of much higher operating pressure. This worked fine in bolt action "magazine rifles" but the belted case and high pressure often caused difficult extraction/ejection in double rifles. Bolt action rifles were much cheaper to make and buy and eventually the double rifles fell out of favor. Thanks, Scott! Happy New year! Really glad you are here.

Hi Scott, the Blaser R8 is infact a bolt action rifle. It's called a straight pull bolt action. It's known that there's been a few R8s in the past that went handgranade-mode versus their shooters though - Blasers pays VERY well to keep people quiet about it though. In the end, the R8 is still a very commonly used hunting rifle, I'd even say the most used here in Germany. Btw: it's pronounced Blaser (with an A as in KindergArden and a S as in Zero). Realy enjoying your videos! Interesting to see that Blaser produced these in those weird calibers
Happy New Year!! Scott, if you want an impressive looking shell, get your hands on a 475 no.2 Nitro express round. Of course, almost all of the African rounds under 500 Nitro call all have the same power level at right around 5000 ft lbs, or the same as what a 458 Win mag will turn up with decent handloads. The 500 is a big step up in actual power over the 470 and lesser rounds when it comes to traditional double rifle rounds.
Scott, love the videos. Have you considered doing videos on military surplus rifles like Enfields, Springfields etc.? Some of these offer unique designs and some have stout recoil if you're looking for that plus interesting history. Ammo might be harder to come by but worth a look. Keep up the good work.
Just a suggestion...when you show the shots on target, the frame pretty much starts right when you fire. Because of this, we can't really see the full effect of the carnage. I would edit the shooting scenes to where there is a few seconds before you shoot so we can really see everything. Same goes for the slo-mo shots. Thanks Scott, love what you do!
Dude, gotta say that bolt action actually really sketches me out. I get the idea behind it and im sure its been tested to death, but man thats scary not seeing the locking lugs. I dont know that id have the balls to fire one, and i tend to be the guy who laughs in deaths face and has had more "how are you alive?" experiences than most people i know. Kudos to you man. You are a braver man than I. And yes, please do a video with your elephant rifle collection. Largely so that i can make a "daughter has a boyfriend" list of things i need to get in the next few years.
Video on entire elephant gun collection? Ohh HELL YEAH! Infact, I´vd love if you made somekind of series, where you showed off your entire gun/rifle collection, maybe in categories for every vid. like "My elephant guns" as one vid. etc.
Blaser R93 and R8 it's verry common in Europe, it is a weapon which should be better known in the USA. I have one R93 in 9.3x62 for shoot hogs in driven hunt. You have 3 types of breech head; mini (223, 222, etc) midle (243, 308, 30-06, etc) and magnum (300 WM, 7mm RM, 338 WM, etc). With the same breech head you change only the barrel.
Now this is how you ring in the new year. A new Kentucky Ballistics video! So in the garage we got atlas stones, Stretch Armstrongs, and a pile of elephant rifles. A 470 and a 500, gonna need a bigger garage. Keep working on those table flips. Man that hominy erupts! You keep punting those eggplants like that and the scouts are gonna be calling. Looks like it could have made it through 10 cans of cheese! Stopped in the cap, nice! Say hi to Wolverine and the rest of the Ax-Men for me. Of course an all elephant rifle video has to be done(since you have them all). Different targets, different ammo, we need to know witch one is the best Great video Scott! Looks like it's going to be another great year!. Black thumb shirt?
I know it was childish humor, but the fart during the lunges absolutely cracked me up! Sometimes a little bit of childish humor still hits in the right spot!
Love the content as always! Those .500 Jeffrey rifles are like super rare in the US too. I wouldn't worry about that Blaser either. It's been used for a long time on African safaris with those kind of rounds.
I'm glad double rifles are getting more publicity from your videos Scott, they're so cool. Happy New Year, hope you and your family stays happy and healthy! Keep up the great content.

I'd like to see more of that 500 Jeffrey. That action is cool. Hey Scott, have you considered a 4 Bore yet?
Dude, the double rifles series is my favorite of yours! I'm loving it!!! Thank you!
To be honest the cartridge seems better than the other nitro cartridges and that 500 Jeffries seems awesome that's a cool gun
Straight-pull rifles are right nifty!
Savage Arms has their "Impulse" for a more modern, normal-caliber rifle with a straight pull.
@@Stevarooni comparing a savage to a blaser rifle is blasphemy.😂😂
@@Stevarooni funny thing is: the savage uses the exact same mechanism, because they couldn't come up with something better and just copied
Video on entire elephant gun collection? Ohh HELL YEAH! Infact, I´vd love if you made somekind of series, where you showed off your entire gun/rifle collection, maybe in categories for every vid. like "My elephant guns" as one vid. etc.
Your a legend for taking all that damage to your shoulder😂😂
Blaser R93 and R8 it's verry common in Europe, it is a weapon which should be better known in the USA. I have one R93 in 9.3x62 for shoot hogs in driven hunt. You have 3 types of breech head; mini (223, 222, etc) midle (243, 308, 30-06, etc) and magnum (300 WM, 7mm RM, 338 WM, etc). With the same breech head you change only the barrel.
The energy transfer on the elephant rifle collection is insane. Great video as usual!
Scott the slow motion shots are lovely :)
And nobody noticed how amazing that slo-mo watermelon closeup was. It looked so perfect how the watermelon exploded
The .470 Nitro brings back memories of reading Jim Corbett’s ‘Man-Eaters of Kumaon’ when I was young.
YES for elephant gun collection 👍
Slow motions in Your videos are cool 👏😎
Blaser rifles are top quality and are criminally underappreciated in the US.
Yes!!! I would love to see a video of your elephant rifle collection :D
Yeah buddy way to go Scott and I would love to see the whole elephant gun collection keep up the great work👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
WELL....it sure appears you LOVE BLOWING things up for sure and you ARE FUN to watch too Scott!! Happy New Year and keep 'em coming!!
That Blaser action is supposed to be super strong, so don't worry about it.
I'm glad double rifles are getting more publicity from your videos Scott, they're so cool. Happy New Year, hope you and your family stays happy and healthy! Keep up the great content.
