      If there’s haters of anything it’s Marshall’s US pricing, unless you absolutely need it to be 20 watts, I guess, but they’re priced out of the market. For 1300 you can get higher quality hand wired amps like Friedmans or Ceriatones. The Ceriatones are faithfully recreated handwired clones.

    The real reason they likely chose Creambacks was because Greenbacks are rated for 25/30 watts, and the amp at peak likely pushes over the power handling of the speaker and thus to avoid speaker issues, they went for a much higher wattage speaker to mitigate that.
    Creambacks are also Celestions highest selling speaker, and Marshall can get a good price for buying in bulk.
    For those that buy this, try getting a greenback or a clone from say Weber and hear the difference.

    The demo itself is well made!
    This amp certainly will find it‘s fans but for me it simply does not sound like a real vintage JTM45. Maybe because of the missing rectifier tube, maybe because of other reasons, I don‘t know.
    It has some sort of JTM-ish sound, admitted, but not the dimensionality, the sonic complexity, the very unique „magic“ of a real JTM and especially not this outstanding treble-sweetness-bite-blend, which is typical for a real JTM45, at least not for me.
    JTM for the poor, so to say, but hardly the amp, that started it all. On the other hand, for a budget amp it is too expensive.
    My advice, as long as you do not own a vintage JTM45 amp, better invest in the JTM45/2245. This one has a rectifier tube, which really is an improvement and also sounds and reacts much more authentically to me than this ST20 does.
    Alternatively a much more expensive Dirty Shirley also could be an option, if you look for convincing top-notch Angus Young / Billy Gibbons sounds and more.
    But for me the ST20 is some sort of neither fish nor meat in-between amp. Similar, but not the same, sorry.
    I also do not like the vertical Studio series cabinets, every average horizontal cabinet, equipped with the same speakers, sounds better to me. Any 412 cabinet anyway.

    • @colinmcnab6145
      @colinmcnab6145 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Love the sumo however my question is can the combo accept an extension speaker cab in order to turn it into a 2 x 12 nowhere in the description can I find where the one by 12 or where it has an option for an extension speaker? Also, it appears that this is definitely a new construction in my opinion after reading through a couple of other descriptions on the Sweetwater side I currently on the Marshall studio jubilee a black one one by 12 I know there is also a studio jubilee out in the UK that is a one by 10 or you can get the one by 12 appears in silver black or snake skin lol but I am truly curious about the construction because this app actually has a tube rectifier versus solid-state at least in the description. It explains two preempt tubes two power and one ECC 83 rectifier is that accurate it just appears there’s a lot more wiring going on here than PCB and are they hand wired Tube sockets or are they built-in thank you for any responses or information you can provide appreciate the great demos love your channel. When it comes to speaker cabinet speaker choices, you can always buy your preferred speaker separately with the knowledge that you will likely have to deconstruct and disconnect the stock speaker in the cabinet. I am faced with the same scenario with my Mesa boogie 1x12 mini rectifier cabinet with a 25 watt green back speaker that I want to swap out the stock vintage 30 with; even if I am faced with the need to unsolder the vintage 30 that is soldered in to the cabinet. Otherwise, I definitely look forward to completing the dream project.
    For all rock ‘n’ roll gearheads, always remember this; experimentation is what fueled and drove rock ‘n’ roll history.

    • @asianaxeman
      @asianaxeman ปีที่แล้ว

      Why the concern about the speaker? Creambacks sound great!

    • @rypatmackrock
      @rypatmackrock ปีที่แล้ว

      @@asianaxeman being a bit of a historically correct snob, reading a book about the rock ‘n’ roll legends that defined the genre in the 60s and 70s, and after owning a vox AC 15 with an Alnico blue speaker; I’ve become obsessed with matching speaker wattage with amp wattage, (after finding particularly with my vox), that not only does it create perceived volume, but also a well described smooth transition into overdrive and distortion. With that in mind, I have a 25 watt Celestion green back waiting to be mounted and hand soldered in my Mesa boogie 1x12 mini rectifier cabinet for my Mesa boogie mini rectifier 25 to further explore my hypothesis and observations. I have also been listening to audio tracks of vintage styled 25 watt Jensen speakers that were used in vintage fender amps.
      I will say it again, Jimi Hendrix, Jeff Beck, Jimmy page, and later Pat Metheny were my biggest documented rock stories that inspired my passion in experimenting with gear and ideas. All I need now is a soldering iron or if I can properly install solderless plugs after finding them at all.

      It's not a cheap amp, but it's not that crazy of a price. The $1100 1x12 cab seemed down right nutty though.

      Could most definitely have a pcb JTM reissue for that price instead…

    In 2023 Marshall still can't design a small, light low watt amp. This 20 watter is too big and heavy. Yes I know it's a JTM re-issue but 4 outputs are useless. Useless cos they are not foot switchable. Blending 2 channels is also useless. Marshall could have produced a tonal clone of JTM 45 in a proper footswitchable 2 channel amp. So another lost opportunity from Marshall imo

      I'm using an ABY pedal and now it's footswitchable. Works great.

    jtm45 is 30w and studio jtm is 20w. That 10w quietness won't be noticeable (volume wise). Apart from small size foam factor, I don't see any point of studio JTM.
