@Marshall Is this any good? Rather than harping on and reissuing past glories, I would like to see some brand new ground breaking stuff. New Amps, new technology. We are now in 2024 ! C’mon Marshall, I know you are no longer a British Company 🇬🇧and sold out, but show us what you can do. Forwards, not backwards. It’s the wrong direction. Take a leaf out of Blackstar and follow their lead….
Always preferred other brand amps than Marshall. Now THIS is something i want to buy. I only need this and a delay, reverb and booster and I'm all set. Great review btw
Yep, I’m going to be gigging with this amp. I’ll use a wah and either a Treble booster or Tube Screamer into the front end (or both!) and a Keeley Halo or Strymon El Capistan in the loop! It’s a killer rig!
I tried all the Studio amps, and did not like any of them, many thanks to Sweetwater for their service and return policy. I love my Marshall JCM 2000 DSL 100 watt head better than any of the Studio series and it is easy to find a great used one for half the price. Using a Marshall Power Break attenuator to manage volume, a Boss RV-500 into the effects loop, and a Keeley Compressor Plus with a Boss SD-1 in front of the amp easily produces all the great Marshall sounds with better headroom and clarity. Thank you for all the great music videos Paul Drew!
I really like it. From all the Marshalls I owned I only kept the JMP-1 preamp (into a EL84 20/20), and OD1 sounds like a dream. That being said, the JTM sound wonderful.
A simple mod to mine was to snip the mix resistor bypass cap or "2nd bright cap" on the high treble channel (not the one on the volume pot). This gives you a nice pedal platform as unfortunately the normal channel is too dull.
Good video, one thing that appears to be missing is a valve rectifier. Any sag with the amp when it's cranked? Certainly noticeable with a regular JTM45.
Great job as always Paul. This amp sounds magnificent! I have the studio Plexi and Jubilee which are also great but this fills the collection. We have a 1986 JCM 800 so we never tried the studio 800. Really excited to grab one of these
Sounds great but alas it’s way beyond my budget as I’d need the cab as well. My Katana mk2 100 gets pretty close to those vintage tones so I’ll be sticking with that. Cheers for the review though. Always good to hear new gear.
For me it's this or the mini jubilee. I don't care much for the speaker that comes with the jubilee. The speaker that comes with the JT. seems to sound better. Hmmmm decisions. What do you think?
Fender and Marshall sound Soo good together.Jeff Bek played a his Strat thru a Marshall stack on his 72 Beat Club apperance .Check it out.Oh And Hendrix loved his Strat and Stack combo.
Great amp, I have it but I would add one more downside apart from the hard to see knob settings, which is the DI out doesn't do silent recording on the combo and I presume the head too, so you have to hear the amp whilst recording, fine if your playing clean pretty much, but overdriven/distorted means playing at louder more cranked volumes in a bedroom, which is difficult if not impossible. 5 watts mode is still plenty loud. A speaker has to be attached at all times or you can and probably will damage the amp. Depends on what your needs are. I live in a small flat and need silent for recording. Ways round it but I think they should have had the DI out do silent recording after all it's marketed more towards the bedroom player than the unattenuated amps of the past. It says the DI out bypasses the internal speaker of the combo which makes you think it does silent recording, but the marketing doesn't make it clear that the amp needs to be connected to a speaker at all times. You only find that out when you get it and read the manual or by doing first recording. I would have still bought the amp anyway but it's definitely a downside for me.
Amazing playing as always. I own the SV20, really considering grabbing one of these too. I think Hendrix’s favorite studio amp was actually a JTM and not the super lead that he’s usually associated with
Great demo!!! Sounds very much like Bluesbreaker... as you'd hope! I agree the knobs are not great. Shame they didn't go with the knobs from the Andertons JTM145. Sounds fantastic though!!! 😍
I played along with this video using my PRS HDRX20 and it gets the same tones, I would be interested in you doing a comparison. I really love marshalls and have gigged many of them over the years. I do not currently have one in my studio but this one really interests me. Great playing as always!
I would like to hear this next to the JMP plexi version , but I think I like this one more. I can get plexi kind of sounds mit my 1979 JMP, but this sounds really fantastic as well
Looks great, sound pretty nice... chapeau Marshall, sweet new amp!! Still think I´d prefer an Ampete TWO or a Divided By 13 + a variac for these kinda tones in a studio setting.
nice tones! odd observation on my part, but the main light looks like it has a candle like flicker - not sure if that's the camera's FPS causing that or not.
How is the headroom of this amp? Why I was about to buy a Mini Jubilee because it has the most Headroom out of all Studios. But the sound of this one is amazing!
The JCM version is great! I have it. But most probably you wanna get both. You won’t regret it. I’m getting this JTM too! Gonna ask the wife if it’s ok first. 😂. Cause she ask me what’s the difference otherwise than the color and such.

Beautiful sounding amp. I just ordered the head and 212 cab today. Ill definitely be adding a reverb pedal and attenuator to make it more usable. What reverb did you use for the recording?
Of all the amps that Marshall has re-issued…..the on that set the benchmark for Marshall is the JMP. It’s yet another strangely self-destructive move from Marshall. Got the combo 1x12 for £600 used in pristine condition, after watching this demo. It is glorious!. I’m very pleased, thank you, Paul.
Feels like I'm hearing Malcolm Young play. Incredible amp and great demo!
You’re a great musician. You understand the guitar and amp combinations better than anyone I watch on TH-cam. Thanks
Appreciate that.
Agreed, his videos, knowledge and talent are the best.
My God that sounds glorious. Marshall is really hitting it out of the park with the whole studio series of heads.
My wish: The Studio Rats publish a few Neural captures of this amp for the QC .. along with the speaker .. PLZ!
I got really excited about that amp when you showed it had an FX loop. Nice demo, Paul.
Cool, thanks.
I love the AC/DC style into. The tone, the distortion/compresson and tele sounds awsome. You play guitar like I wish that I could.

Tele sounds best IMO. Tone is beautiful I have to have one. Also, Paul is an amazing player, complete natural.
If I thought the direct out into a DAW for recording could sound as good as that I would consider buying it.
Sounds mega! Great first release after the big corporate changes earlier in the year - wonderful work @marshallamps
Excellent review. For clipping, I prefer this to the Mini Jubilee. But the loudness …
If I could only have one amp this might be the amp.
This is fucking amazing! Marshall just killed it with this JTM studio 20

Soo nice, I wonder if five watts would be too loud to get edge of break up and boost with a overdrive?
