Some Hannover lore: Hannover is situated where it is because there happened to be a high riverbank (that's where Hannover gets its name from: "Honovere", which translates to "At the high riverbank") safe from regularly occurring floods of the resident Leine river. In addition to this, at the place of Hannover's founding, there happened to be a stream island and relatively slim river plain plus shallow ford, making for a good point to cross the river there. Perhaps because of that, there was a crossing of two major roads at that location. So naturally, a medieval mercantile town would flourish there, as sources suggest, as early as 950 a.d. . I am young, from eastern Germany and had to live and work in the west for the past 3 months. Never will I leave the east again.
Warum?
