  • Our final parkrun in Ireland included a visit to Avondale Forest Park, Rathdrum to run Avondale Forest parkrun. We were drawn to this parkrun as we really wanted to have a go on Ireland's highest slide. This is the perfect post parkrun activity, especially with kids! It's right in the forest next to parkrun, in fact you can see it from the start, it was so fun!
The parkrun itself was awesome! A tough, hilly, trail run and a fantastic team with great parkrun spirit! We were so lucky with the weather and it was great to meet up with our parkrun friends Ken, Maria and Annabelle again. Definitely worth a visit for the parkrun alone, but do make time for the other activities in the forest if you can.
Ireland has so many wonderful adventures and visiting Powerscourt Waterfall was brilliant. We are so sad that this trip has come to an end. Huge thanks to everyone who has made our trip to the Emerald Isle so amazing, whether in person or simply messaging suggestions of places to go. It has been a fantastic experience for both Poppy and I and something we will remember forever. Now it's back to Leeds for us to continue our running adventures there.
    Happy running,
    Nicola :)

Wow that was an exciting video, Nicola ! What a fantastic slide. If I go back to the Wicklow Mountains I will have to give it a go. The tree top walk looks great too. I have come across two since the pandemic. There is one at Kew Gardens and another at Salcey Forest in Northamptonshire next to the parkrun course. I am hoping to run there next time I visit friends in Milton Keynes. I went to the beautiful Powerscourt Gardens which is not far from the waterfall but unfortunately I didn’t know about the waterfall at the time. If you go back to the area I can recommend a walk up Sugar Loaf Mountain. It is an easy climb & you get a fantastic view over Dublin to the Mountains of Mourne and across to Wales.

Avondale Park is actually owned by the Irish Forestry Board, Coillte.
I’m from about 45 minutes from there, actually staying nearby in a couple of weeks and plan to do this parkrun all being well, this is the first video I found so thanks

If you want to try an even BIGGER slide then may I recommend the one at the Olympic Park in London. I would never have done it of my own accord but my nephew wanted to go on it and it ended up being really fun: for comparison you’re sliding for 40 seconds. I’ve really enjoyed all the Irish videos, what a great adventure you’ve had

What a fantastic way to end your Irish adventure Nicola. I can't write what my potty mouth said when I saw the waterfall and slide but I was very impressed.
You two have made great memories together, sure it's something you both will look back on with great fondness . If I ever go to Ireland I gotta go to Avondale parkrun. Well done you for doing this, what a great idea and thanks for all the great vlogs 💚

What an adventure Nicola! I could tell you are sad to see the trip end. Is Poppy eager to return home? Loved seeing the waterfall. Looks like it would be a fun place to be at on a warm day. That park run was crazy cool too. It was nice to see you push the pace and get off to a good start too. I know you film when you run, but what was your time? Also impressive that you spent the entire there enjoying the park and that "board walk" definitely looked like a fun obstacle course. Sounds like a great place to visit if I ever cross the "pond" again. Love your videos and can't wait to see your next adventure.

    • @NicolaRuns

And thanks for the kind words, I'm not sure what my time was. I've a terrible memory and this was a few weeks ago but all results are on the parkrun website 😃 I only pay attention to the time if it's a PB or if I'm pushing really hard. Like you say I was filming so I never look at the time then 🙃🤷🏻‍♀️

I loved this video! That waterfall was magical. I could watch a very long video just of the waterfall. As for Avondale Forest, it seems like it would be hard to go there without spending the whole day. But that slide... I could sleep on the ground in a field full of cows, but the walkway up to the top of that slide would scare me silly. You're braver than I am.

    • @NicolaRuns
