I must say that, somehow, the photos of your Boxster in a field at sunset, make it look like a real classic, like the 356. I think this model is destined for greatness. Beautiful.

Hey Joe, I found your channel a while ago when I was dealing with the rebuild and I've been following your channel. I see you were at mollies diner the other day, I live 5 mins down the road I'm sure I'll see you about

I adore my 987, had it for over 7 years now. Recently I picked up a 981 cayman and I will say, the reason one may want a cayman over boxster is the chassis rigidity. Not to mention sometimes it's nice having a roof over your head. It insulates you more from the outside and just feels more "safe" if you were to have an incident. With that said, I highly recommend getting an exhaust on the car, that flat 6 has 4 converters on it and a new exhaust removes 2 and allows it to breathe. I have a top gear valves system on mine and it absolutely transformed the car. Outside of that I'd recommend making sure all the maintenance is up to date (fluids, coils, plugs), and it's not a bad idea to address the shifter cables and of course the IMS if yours is replaceable. Also be sure to keep an eye on the tensioning straps for the top and if you really want to go wild put some suspension in the car. You'll forget all about the miata.

Hi mate, Thanks for the comment. Since I've got into the Porsche community I love them all, might look at a 981 cayman one day. I have changed to a non valved TopGear exhaust and it has unleashed the proper flat 6 noise I was after. The mx-5 now lives in this cars shadow. :)

Got the boxster s, and is exactly what I want next, Cayman , you remind me of myself?! Obvious loving my convertible views in Hawaii! Looking forward for that hard top Cayman, peace!

I am blessed to have both a MX5 ND and a Porsche' 987.1 Cayman S. I already have 1 convertable and 1 topless car so the Boxster was a choice but then I agree with you that the lines of the Cayman are beautiful. After all the work I did on the MX5 I dare say it almost handles as well as the Cayman. Loved the vid, keep them coming...

Thanks Mike. Love the Porsche brand and I think it will be hard to leave it. Will always have a soft spot for the MX5 though

If you put the back wind deflector in really quiets down the cabin, ride is quieter than a 911 4s cabriolet with tops down

I owned one the same spec as yours ,kept it for a year as I planned and loved it. I would say however that selling it wasn't easy and I lost money on the car residual value. Enjoy it though and treat it as a must have not necessarily an investment.

Any one buying a sports car as an investment and not to enjoy is crazy. Everything in life isn't meant to bring you a return

Haha got the name a while ago when doing photography. Thanks I'm keen to get out to some Porsche events. Went to Chris Harris' collecting cars at Bicester heritage the other week and was amazed by the community out there

Lovely car, I’ve also got one, the only issue for me is the control box under the passenger seat. If water gets into the cabin this box can get wet and eventually malfunction. Daftest place Porsche could have put it. Other than that the car is brilliant, have fun👍

Thanks mate. I've actually really enjoyed having some bits to sort out. Loving the car and seeing other Porches out on the road :)

Excellent video! I bought the same one in black and with left hand drive about the same time you purchased yours. Love it - I also have a 911(996) that is a great but very different ride. How did you get such high quality audio whilst driving? Thank you!

Thanks for watching Charles. I love this car and have plenty planned with it. In terms of audio I have now bought a Rode Wireless 2 mic. It gives great audio

Be very careful with the trim piece that runs from the door up to the convertible top.
The replacement piece is over $1400 US… Canada it’s over $2000 for a piece of rubber.
I asked Porsche to explain, it’s “meh” We don’t care what you think

I've been kicking around the idea for years now. Have the money but not sure I'll ever drive it "beyond" what I would with an MX5. (had 2) If I don't, is the inline 6 feel/sound difference worth the much higher $$? I'm also considering 911's which is my lifetime dream car. But love the rag tops! In reading and shopping I'm leaning toward the 987 as well though the nicest ones are almost as much as the cheapest 718. Resale is the most compelling argument for one I think.

Hi Mike. Coming from my mk3 MX5 I was in the same situation. Finally pulling the trigger on this one I love it. The main difference is the running costs and when thing go wrong, with the car being 17 years old, things are a lot more expensive. I have had a bit of a horror with this one resulting in a engine rebuild. (video coming soon). If you do look at them try and go as modern as you can.

    • @mikeb1039
      @mikeb1039 ปีที่แล้ว

@@willbehindthecamera Yikes! That's always been the stopper. The IMS or bore scoring or other reason to need a new engine. I thought they weren't rebuildable being sand cast? the 10K motor replacement has really been the anchor. I'm "old" and the running costs don't scare me any longer. Now its more about feeling like I might not utilize that handling and might as well get a Mercedes SL500/550 or other 'dream car' over my lifelong love of open topped sports cars. hmmm

LOVE the 718 and can squeeze into that price range but then the hp is pushing 300 (+ for S) and it's a much more serious speed machine. I had an 04 MSM with Flying Miata mods and it was crazy quick (much more turbo hp than oem made the gearing crazy short) and I couldn't keep my foot out of it. Ticket machine.

Depending on your budget and preference really. If your after a Porsche a 981 of any sort would be my pick with the combination of modern engines, looks, power and cost. I have driven a 981 gts quite a bit as a family member owns one. Will get a video on the channel with that soon too.
