Own a 987.1 2006 Boxster S myself. Good to see you doing the fix yourself. Anyone with these cars I would say you need to do the fix and maintenance yourself to save a fortune. They are expensive to run as it is.

Thanks for watching. I try to do what i can on this car to keep the costs low. Im debating if i should try tackle some suspension components like coffin arms and tuning forks.

You're the man Will, really enjoying the DIY stuff. I got a 987.1 Boxster S just like yours a few months ago, and part of what enables me to afford it is DIY'ing most repairs, as a young bloke :) much respect to you for taking the extra time to document this stuff, it's really helpful for me! Thanks for watching mate. Im in the same position. The bills on these can get pretty high so I try to do what I can. I have just had a handbrake spring break, cheap fix but I think it will be a dificult job. I guess we will find out 😂

The two options are you either do your own maintenance and servicing or keep a £2000 slush fund. I sold my 987.2 Cayman due to extremely high running costs and replaced it with the more reliable 981 Cayman, yet I have a small slush fund for any unforeseen problems.

Intresting. I was thinking of upgrading to a 987.2 but maybe i would need to jump up to a 981

Just got rid of my 987, the bills just caught up with it and the failure of the coolant pipes was the last straw. It’s the longest time I’ve ever kept a car because I liked it, but eventually they become a money pit. And they all eventually suffer the same issues.

Gutsy effort Will! I'm leaving that one for my mechanic. Keep the vids coming.

Thanks for watching mate. It was a bit of a struggle at times getting the cables in but please I got there.

How long did it take in total to fit the new cables? Shifter cables snapped on my 987.2 Cayman S. My local Porsche specialist are charging me almost £1,300.00 to fit the new Porsche cables (new lever and bracket as well).

Oh wow that is quite a bill! it took me abour 4 hours in total. but thats with me trying to figure it out as i go and not having a car on a ramp. Now it coudl do it in half teh time I'd say and lifting the car up will make this alot easier

@@willbehindthecamera Cheers for the info. It ended up being more like £1,100.00 because they didn't need to use a new bracket & lever. Shifts very nicely now though. Buttery smooth and precise.

Sorry was filmed in a bit of a rush as i had a car meet i needed to get to that weekend. If you pause at 3:56 you can see the bit that broke off. 😊

Thank you. Mine isn’t broken yet but I’m always curious how that cable can break.

Is it manual or automatic ir both?

    • @willbehindthecamera

Thanks for watching. Mine is a manual. This doesnt seem to happen on the autos. They do still have a cable but it is under less stress I believe so wouldnt be prone to failure.

Nothing new with the “awesome” Porsche quality..

I have one almost identical to Will's and mine doesn't miss a beat. These cars are nearly 20 years old and I reckon a well looked after Porsche will go forever. Bunch of guys at my local club would agree. Can't remember anyone not making it home on any of our cruises. How's yours going?

@@04stigerthink you may be a fairly lucky exception, because of the age of the 987’s they all eventually suffer the same worn out parts. And those parts plus Labour are really expensive!
