    With the rise of raw lifting, the Westside conjugate method is less fashionable than it was. I agree that some of Louie's methods do not translate well to raw lifting. The complaint that it also helps to be on gear also has validity as the conjugate method is bloody hard on the body week in, week out. However, the man knows his onions - you just need to pick the right things for you. I would not have used bands, chains, j m presses, Tate presses, etc without Westside. As for the reverse hyper - sorted out my back problems. Louie Simmons is an absolute legend.

    I love squatting, however I seriously injured my lower back a couple years ago. I can't handle much load on my shoulders anymore due to the compression on my injury. I belt squat with a dip belt while standing on two, foot tall steps with a gap in the middle. I highly recommend it to everyone, especially those with back and shoulder problems, the traction effect can really be felt. Just use a good dip belt if you want to try.

      i find that the typical dip belt digs into the groin while doing belt squats, i am now considering investing in a belt squat belt or something is designed to make the movement more comfortable.

      Very true, but when it comes to human biology. We all get old, fragile and brail. There's a specific age range in which the human is strongest due to hormones and muscular development. The idea when it comes to sport; It's to take advantage of this knowledge and get as strong as your body will allow you to break records and become champion. Most of them know this aswell. They don't want to be strong when they're 80, They want to be remembered when they're dead and gone.

    A belt squat does not traction the spine.
    Traction requires opposing force.
    For example: Hanging from a chin-up bar tractions the spine, as the torso is anchored with gravity pulling the weight of the lower body in the opposite direction, thus tractioning the spine.
    With a Hip Belt Squat you have the weight of the torso bearing down on the spine, with the hips being also pulled down by the hip belt, therefore there is no traction as there are no opposing/elongating forces being applied to the spine.

      All the belt squat machines I've seen have places for your hands to hold onto which allows you to assist with your arms. I could see some traction coming from assisting the squat with pulling up, or pushing down like in a dip, with your arms.
      I do agree though, without the use of your arms you're not getting traction.

      I cant do 40 lbs of weight on my shoulders due to the severe pain in my lower lumbar ( i can barely leash my dog).
      I just started the belt squat and not only can i do decent weight (for me), my back FEELS BETTER after i do the exercise. It definitely is doing something therapeutic for my spine that physical therapy nor surgery ever did for me.

    Why is Westside so strong? Because to begin training there you have to total over 1500. If you're already squatting 600 raw, and you don't get hurt, in such a high energy environment you'll do well.

    • @bdono555
      @bdono555 5 ปีที่แล้ว +18

      There are about a dozen powerlifting federations in the US, westside’s guys compete almost exclusively in three. The three they compete in have the lowest standards as what counts as a good lift. Also they allow the most assistance equipment or “gear lifting” such as knee and elbow wraps, triple ply slings for squats, bench shirts, ratcheting belts, wrist and foot braces. Most of the top powerlifters don’t compete in these federations because the equipment does a lot of the lifting and the judges are notoriously inconsistent even with there lose standards.
