What amazes me is how Louie says they squat 800 in comp despite never touching more than 500 in training. You’d think that 300 extra would feel like a house on the CNS but it obviously does not cause a problem.
I think context is important here - they would never have 800lb of bar weight but would likely touch that at the top with accommodating resistance etc (plus, knowing Louie he could have been talking about dynamic effort for 500lb and just not clarified lol). And not that I'm remotely close to touching those sorts of weights, but having spoken to a few guys who've had 1000+ on their back for the most part they say once you get past a certain point it all feels the same anyway.
I can see why you'de think that, but this is in 96 - the quazi-Hatfield era - before bands, and before the later dynamic effort/max effort/assistance era splits that you mentioned. Listen to the last minute of the video@@Dr_Footbrake
Beeing Arched is better than beeing flexed, but bracing is the best when beeing neutral. But you need to arch when wearing a squat suit, otherwise your spine will go Fly across the Room. Swede burns and dave tate have talked about that in the elitefts Podcast
Yeah a lot of body mechanic science is different when a suit is doing work for you instead of just your body, it changes things completely which is why you can’t just throw on a suit and immediately do more, you have to learn to use the suit
I know Louie says he’ll do doubles, 8 to 10 sets. Just trying to confirm, because the guy in the vid does 2 sets of 10. I’m assuming if it is correct what he said, that’ll be done on the max effort day?
185x10....warm up for me in 1988. Repped it carelessly too fast. Compression injury. Right sciatic nerve pain. Ruined what I love to do; lift. Wasn't leisurely for me. I was going for gains. HEED MY ADVICE. GO DOWN SLOW IF YOU INSIST ON DOING THESE
RIP LOUIE 💜 your contributions to the powerlifting world were a godsend. Rest easy
Easy? 😀
He's lifting a million tons in Hell, making Satan look like a wimp.
Thanks for this wonderful video. Box Squat literally changed my life and training. Requiescat in Pace Louiee Simmons.
Been doing a lot more box squats lately, excited to see the effects.
And?...
Game changer

tremendous video
These videos are great - where are you getting them?
I'd also love to know
Those shoes are fire what are those
oh yes there is more !
2:37 begins very very very important education for anybody looking to jump higher with weight training.
Push against the bar. I love that !!!
What’s he mean by push out the knees ? Like push out to left and right ?
Push the knees outwards away from the midline (hip abduction).
I wonder if Louis opinion on the extreme back arch has changed over time.

Yes, 5 reps can be used in first 2-3 sets
Notice when people do squats there knees go forward almost in front of they’re knees these guys knees don’t move
He should really mention at some point that this only works for suited equipped lifting. You will kill your back in the long run doing this.

I'm glad they're better for you, because, they are so much easier than ass to grass.
Only watch west side guys box squat.
Seriously I see so many terrible box squats from random people on TH-cam.
I hate box squts
