From phidon pens blog: "The last tip that we have if you’re getting your first Eco is to do a little trick when you’re filling: release a drop! That’s right, the best way to ensure you get the most ink for your fill is actually to release one drop when you have your pen full. Releasing a single drop back into the bottle releases the air pressure in the feed that builds up from the process of filling. This prevents the pen from “burping” (releasing an unwanted glob of ink when you first start writing) and ensures that none of your precious ink will be wasted. Plus, it’ll save you from inky fingers!"
Any time you get a twsbi I put the piston down draw up ink and then push a few drops of ink back into the bottle and then turn it so it sucks whatevers in the feed inside the barrel so that way it doesnt bloop on the page... That always happens to me they dont have the find like the do under the feed like on most other feeds the space for bloopage is way bigger so it takes a little more care or I shake the pen over a paper towel or a sil mat and wipe it up or shake it over a trash area so it doesnt get all over everything :) Hope that helps take care :)
Yes, pushing a couple drops back into the bottle, then draw back the piston breaks any vapor lock. Prevents burping. ❤
I was just about to comment this!
Twsbi all the way!!… of all my expensive pens, my Twsbi’s write the best and always reliable.
That Jane Eyre ink is LOVELY! I just got Wearingeul White Rabbit and it too is lovely.....my first Wearingeul ink.
Favorite is the DeAtramentis Jane Austen. That is a beautiful green 💚💚💚
I just ordered (being delivered today) my first TWSBI. A TWSBI diamond 580 white and rose gold.
I have an Iris TWSBI Diamond 580, and have it inked with Robert Oster Violet Clouds. Gorgeous!
The first shimmer ink I put in a pen was Robert Oster Schwartz Rose, and it clogged my Kaweco that I was discouraged to explore more shimmer inks. It took almost a year before I would try shimmer inks again, after a creator who gets her TWSBI EF nibs ground further into an EEF recommended Ferris Wheel Press ink shimmers for finer nibs. Now I have my favorite shimmers!
Both-but definitely more Kawecos and I use daily. The Jane Austen from DeAtramentis-chef’s kiss. This ink is constantly in the rotation.
Pride and Prejudice! ❤ but your light colored sleeves gave me such anxiety near all this ink! 😂😆😂
The Montblanc Jane Austen next to the Jane Eyre. Such a beautiful combination! They really compliment each other in my opinion. I need more inks now... 😅
I'm so glad I picked up the MB Jane Austen ink; I really like this kind of purple-grey-brown color. The light purple Jane Eyre looks really pretty too!
Hi Lori, I enjoyed this a lot. It’s something new I’ve not seen- keep doing new ideas, like your 30pens drawing!
About the Twsbi (don’t know if someone mentioned here before): my Creme did that! Now I fill it only half with ink, then pointing nib up and twisting the knob to only suck air in and too much ink from the grip section. It has helped so far.
The ink colors are so lovely! You don’t want to hear it, but you asked: in my opinion the wonderful Jane Austen (MB), Jane Eyre and Jane Austen (DeAtr.) go together so so nice. Pride and Prejudice is a lovely color on its own 😇
Jane Eyre is so pretty and I like the Jane Austen also! Nice TWSBI's, and thanks for filling and swatching 😊 Wishing your husband a very happy birthday!!! 🎂
The medium nib is needing a little bit of pressure to open it up. Pull nib press on the outer sides of nib and a little bend should spread the tines just a tiny bit and your medium will be wetter and behave like a medium nib. A copper shim may do the trick on the slit to open it just a hair more to allow more ink flow….my humble opinion. See 13:50 in video.
I have started only using my super shimmery inks with a dip pen
Shake ans Shimmer is banned in my house lol. I can only use it with a dip pen
Edit to add: Edelstain Golden Lapis works just fine in my TWSBI Eco so i think its the ink
This was so fun!! I love the literature inspired inks!!!
My fav is the MontBlanc Jane Austen Ink. Its actually has a light “Amber” colour once it dries out.
It surprises me every time I use it. Thanks so much for watching.
Happy Birthday Jay, I’m an October person too, we are wonderful lol. Enjoyed all the info, just learning at this stage but loving the content xxx
Thank you! October people are wonderful!! Happy birthday month!
I believe it's burping. I always get rid of the bubbles after inking a twisbi.
I just ordered 2 Twsbi eco I am excited to use them love the inks you are sharing 🙋🏻♀️
Such pretty inks!! Thank you for sharing!
Hi Lori! First I wanted to weigh in on the mishap with your TWSBI - I noticed when you showed your "empty/cleaned" TWSBIs and they had noticeable water drops on the insides. That may have been the culprit of the large drops of ink those 2 times during your share of the new inks with your TWSBIs. Still a great video -- And you mentioned your JANE AUSTEN and I finally broke and talked my husband into getting me one with the ink straight from a phone convo to Montblanc. I LOVE that pen so much! You, my dear, are such the influencer - but it's wonderful to watch your videos!!!
I am Team Both!!!! I like EF nibs, and I have never had a problem with either!!!!
Me too... 😛💕 Love my TWSBI "fancy" (And varied) collection just as much as my colorful Kaweco one... #TheyAreAllMyChildren 😂🤓🤪
Love TWSBI. My first pen in 2016 was a mini from Goulet. I have many ECOs and a few 580’s. The green is on my wish list. Now I know what ink to get. Thanks.
Lovely pens and inks. My favorite is the Pride and Prejudice, I have that in a few pens. I do want the Green Jane Austen, I keep on forgetting to get it. Now I want it.
Love wearingeul inks and my TWSBIs!
Hi, all my TWSBI Eco pens have shimmer ink in them, all of them in EF and a few with needlepoint grind.. The Robert Oster shimmer inks never worked in any of my TWSBI Eco pens, but the best shimmer ink I have found is the Shimmertastic ink by Diamine. The inkvent shimmery/chameleon inks are amazing in TWSBI pens, too. As well as Journalize inks.. Those two brands are mostly what I use in my TWSBI Eco pens. Also, shimmer inks work in Kaweco, too- at least based on my own experience. The Jayne Eyre ink is so gorgeous😍😍😍 I also love the new Irish Green Twsbi eco, I got a needlepoint grind on one and italic on another 😍 Anyway, I hope you give the Diamine shimmertastic inks a try for your TWSBI Eco pens, I would love to know how you will like the combo. ❤
Nice green ink! Thanks for sharing.
I love both and you are correct, they are apples to oranges. But I enjoy both. Work horses and since they aren't $$$$ I am not afraid to take them with me in my purse or on a trip.
I prefer Twsbi for sure. Kawecos are too dry, not good with shimmers. I have 4 of them and only like 2 of them.
Burping. I agree on expelling one drop. I also think that some air can get trapped in the feed when first inking and when the ink is running low. What I do is put the pen nib UP and pull the ink inside to clear the feed, then work it up and down in the feed until I get it almost coming out, then expel a drop onto paper towel. I also let paper towel absorb some ink out of the nib.
Only other times I get burps are after getting off a plane (just remember to do the nib up and suck the ink in to break the suction, and expel a drip trick.
And also when going from a cold environment to a warmer environment, I’ve had it happen.
“Now I’m all flustered”. Gave me a smile. However, when pens and inks misbehave it is annoying. Btw, these ink colors are impressive.
yeah that jane eyre ink is pretty
OMG - Withering Heights with hellebore florals on the cover? Yes please! I don't buy a lot of hard covers anymore - trying to clean out our bookcases - but man, such a pretty book! Okay, now on to see what you say about inks!!!!
Hi Lori,
I too love using my TWSBI fountaint pens, although I prefer the 580's. I have never experienced the "burping" effect with my 580s. As others have commented, releasing a drop of ink after filling up the Eco will release the pressure in the feed and reduce the "burping". I have also found that, even doing that little trick, the Eco's are more prone to burping, especially if they get carried around and are subject to temperature and altitude changes. One way that I try to minimise that is to uncap the pen with the nib pointing up and then using the piston to push the ink up until a drop forms on the business end of the pen before "sucking" the ink back into the pen by resetting the piston back into its "closed" position. This should settle the air pressure between the inside of the pen and where you are. I do this fairly often with my TWSBI Eco's. The 580s do not suffer with this problem, hence they are my preferred TWSBI fountain pens.
The author themed inks look great, and my choice would depend upon the day.
I would ordinarily put something like these RO inks into an Opus 88 or a Benu. Though I sometime put inks with lesser shimmer into Eco's. Thanks for the video. DeAtramentis = DeA Dark Green and several others.
I have had the complete opposite experience! My TWSBIs are all a dream but my one Kaweco sport I've had not good luck with at all yet.
Never take that Eco apart! I did thinking it was necessary and it was a huge mistake. I couldn't get it put back together correctly. I got rid of it, but now I think I might try it again.
You have so many TWSBI's. I only have one, although it is always inked up and in ready to use daily condition. It's the SWIPE Smoke W/1.1mm Stub Nib, cartridge filler that I purchased from Goulet three years ago. Always has had the same Private Reserve Black Cherry in it. Only refilled the cartridge once since then. Writes first time, every time, which is not something I can say about some of my other "Higher Level" Fountain pens. Even now, as I haven't written with it since early September, it writes right away. No hard starts. My Vazir Desert Rain with the same ink in it, refuses to write after only a few hours even with a replaced FPR nib. But I've never felt inclined to get any other TWSBI's. Instead I struggle with the Desert Rain on a daily basis because the pen "calls out to me constantly." Ha-ha-ha. The Trials of Job.
Van Diemans Encore Cupids Bow is super shimmery. I’ve had no problem Twsbi Medium nib. Usually fine nibs are good with shimmer inks, most (not all) XF nibs handle any shimmer inks. I’m team Twsbi.
That's great to hear! I'll have to check out Cupids Bow!
@@timewithtata8004 it beautiful, liquid shimmer.
Lovely TWSBI collection! The Irish Green is tempting me now. How do you typically clean your TWSBIs without disassembling them? I have taken a couple of mine apart and it hasn’t been a smooth process, but that is probably just me!
Try wearingeul metamorphosis. It is a brick red. Kinda brownish. It’s my favorite 😊. Enjoyed the video.
I am Team Twsbi! Love them!
I have Robert Oster Shake n Shimmy ink(Atlas exclusive Sidewalk Gum) in a TWsbi Broad nib and it works fine. I make sure to shake it frequently. Saw you on the Atlas experienced pen sale last week. You had as much luck as I did. Don’t think I’ll ever be fast enough to claim a pen. But I’m going to keep trying.
Beautiful inks! I don't think I can choose a favourite...
I also love that Eco in the Irish Green so I've added it to my wish list. I have an Eco that was a collaboration with Bungubox (a Halloween pen because it's my favourite holiday). I got it in a fine nib and I just love it. Twsbis are great pens!
When I first started, I prefered my Kaweco to TWSBIs, but as I am using them more, I really appreciate my TWSBIs. I always end up with ink on my fingers with my Kawecos, and they tend to burp ink when I start writing after a fill, as your Eco just did. I don't think I've ever had it happen with my TWSBIs, but I could be wrong...
Hi just wanted to let you know to dry your pen it still had water in it that way it will last longer ❤
I’m leaning towards Jane Eyre because I don’t have a dusty purple, and it looks like a good color for Hobonichi October.
❤ Pride and Prejudice ❤
The Jane Eyre went into my cart. Ha ha
My new eco's o-ring on the end of the pen went missing after only one use. It is required to post the pen (otherwise the cap just spins around). The good news was that I emailed TWSBI and within 3 minutes I got a response. I sent them $6 via PayPal and within 5 minutes they emailed me back with a tracking number for two new o-rings. Not happy that it happened, but it was the best customer service ever.
I am going to check the hardware store, now that I have the o-ring, and I'll pick up a few more.
as for the burping - did you shake up your inks? i notice sometimes maybe you do with the shimmerss o i wasnt sure if you were shaking the others. i could be wrong about this but i think its like nail polish where if you shake them up they can get air bubbles which might cause the burping, so its better to agitate them side to side gently. but yeah for shimmers you gotta be patient if youre being gentle...or wait for the air bubbles to dissipate before inking which i donno how long that would take. maybe if you slam the bottle against the table gently it would pop some air bubbles like a cake pan when you bake lol i dont actually know if that helps. thats my theory though on what could be happening !
My last comment you should add the glow in the dark material TWSBI to the collection. Fun 😮
I had a similar experience. When I first started I bought the Robert Oster Shake N Shimmer Peppermint Candy and it clogged my Opus 88 and my twsbi (both broad nibs) and it turned me off to twsbis and opus'. I've noticed my twsbi ecos can handle shimmer inks (besides the Robert Oster) but my twsbi AL can't.
Another thing that turned me off from Twsbi for the longest time was that I would pull out my pen and it would burp all over the office 😂
I stay away from heavy promoted inks, I stay with tried and true. And I will never ever take my TWSBI apart. I think it messes with the sealing system. I have never had trouble with burping or getting ink out of mine just by soaking it awhile. Mine is running KWZ Sheen Machine. and Colorverse various inks of that brand that have heavy sheen/shimmer and back and forth.
The De Atramentis Jane Austen is my fave of the inks. And I sometimes get burps with my Eco. So when I'm done filling I do exactly what @MissMarilynDarling does. :D
love it! i like the jane austen best of the 3 but jane eyre beats them all :) to be honest im not a huge fan of any of the jane austen inks there but the jane eyre is a stand out
I'm all for twsbi. Have almost every color, variety of nibs. Don't like anything gold though so n9ne of those.
I feel like my diamond 580’s write finer than the ecos.
That is interesting to know... I just ordered the Smoke Diamond 580 in a medium nib. My daughter took my eco with her to Spain. I'm curious to see how it writes.
I just had to send my very first extra fine tip twsbi back it will not take waterproof ink no matter what I do no matter how I clean it it willnot write
The TWSBI post fill blob droplet of ink normally ruins something when I forget no matter if I use a tissue to wipe it or not. Good video.
Jane Eyre
Im just team "give me all the pens"
I’m not team twisbi or kaweco I’m team pilot.
I've been watching since the time you've been at the Dutch Penshow and this was the first video since where you didn't talk about it. In most other videos you talk about it at least 2 times, but sometimes up to 5 times. I hope this will be fixed on the next videos or else it will be extremely disappointing ;)
