I hope you do a couple of vids of paintings you do with the schmincke granulating watercolors. I have them both as well but haven’t used them yet. Please do a tutorial of a painting with each. It would be very much appreciated.

Leslie, the algorithm served up your channel last week. I'm loving your videos and style of painting and teaching. I've built two pochade boxes using cigar boxes. To keep the lid open I used the flat round thumb tacks and length ribbon. I cut a length of ribbon and tie knots on the ends, length is determined of the angle of box top I want. I push the thumb tack through near to knot on both sides. Viola' a lid catch.

I love your idea of converting the Schminke box into a pochade box. I'd love to see how that turns out. I'm also interested to hear your thoughts on some of the Daniel Smith colors. The white Milky pen is now on my wish list. Can't wait to see how you use all these lovely supplies in your artwork. Thanks for letting us in on the fun.
1. I kind of want to roll around in your art supplies.
2. Fountain pen nerd, reporting for duty: you don't need to remove the converter from your pen to ink it up. In fact, it causes less wear and tear NOT to pull it off the feed every refill. Just stick the nib right into your bottle and turn the screw-bit, and it sucks the ink right up through the feed. It's still vaguely messy, but not as bad as trying to fill that tiny converter. (It also works when you're cleaning your pen -- just pull in clear water and when the converter is clear instead of vaguely ink-colored, you're set.).
Oooh thanks for the tips! I’m pretty new to fountain pens. I was afraid of them for a long time. Scriveiner was the first nice one I ever owned. I love the versatile mark making I can get with them? 😊
Thanks for this comment! I have 3 fountain pens ... all have converters and I fill and clean as you wrote. I ordered a Schiveiner and was wondering if I needed to remove the converter to fill and why. My new pen is on its way to me in Montana from Texas ... due Thu-Fri (USPS :( )

I love new art supplies! There's few things better than getting new art supplies. Even just going to the store and looking at them makes me feel better. Pentel makes an excellent brush pen. And you can refill it. I use Platinum Carbon Black in mine. And I love fountain pens! Thank you!
The Pentel brush pens are such a great design. I remember around a decade or so ago they were so hard to find. It’s nice that they have gained popularity! 😊
The pen is extra cool because notonly does it have your name, but the S could be for your last name too!

Halloween watercolor with some metallic accents could be fun. I played around with a ghost on a swing in the woods. I used the white metallic for the ghost and a grey and white combined as a light wash over the scenery to look misty. It was fun.

If you’re looking for ideas for those dual tone pens/brushes, consider some undersea scenes, including fish. As for the Aquash brushes, they are my favorite brushes for gouache. They are exactly right for the thicker than watercolor gouache paint, and the water in the handle facilitates cleaning.
That’s a good idea. I think they’d also be great for fantasy art. 😊

I love that first brush pen you got from pentel. I’ve used mine a silly amount. They make very authoritative sketches. I hope you like it. I am impressed by how fine the lines can get if you look after the bristles.
I like the way I could do dry brush with it too. And yes, it’s amazing how well those synthetic brushes work! 😊

Great choices! I love the DS Pyrrole orange! PO73 is perfection. And I have Buff Titanium and French Ultramarine in all my kits. I tend to stick to the single pigments. Have you tried the DS Watercolour Sticks? They are so richly pigmented and so easy to travel with. I have also cut small sections and put them in a pan. Re-wets like a dream and are much better deal for the amount of pigment you get. Thanks for sharing your awesome supplies!

Well that was some good vicarious fun.--and some ideas about how I might use a few of the items. I'm new here and would like to know if you work in watercolour with larger images. Your small works are stunning and got me to work smaller for a while to see what happens. I'm also eager to see how you work in watercolour with larger pieces when the paint moves more and more things happen from the paint itself. Your commentary is really helpful and I guess that's why you were a teacher/professor. So...I would value your teaching in the larger size. Also, as you shared in your studio tour, my studio has small items to help me remember who I am and how my life is grounded in relationships and experiences. Your tour meant a lot to me in this respect. Thank you for your work for your audience and followers.
I’m so glad you’ve revamped your studio to include precious mementos. 😊 I don’t usually work much larger than a sketchbook in watercolours. When I work larger I usually want oils because it’s so much faster. 😊
I have a couple of the SG sets. I love them . I started off as a commercial artist and have bad habits. The granulation hides many bad habits

Oh what fun! It's as good as having my own art supply "fix." Well, perhaps it's better because I'm having the thrill without the expense ; ). As for the Schmincke Super Granulating watercolors: they are very seductive and I was seduced, but I like to mix my own colors. I realized I could just get a few of the unusual single pigment colors and then make my own. I don't know if they do anything special such as grinding the pigments differently, I rather doubt it. In any case, they're fun to play with.
Agree on all ... well, I will do some experimenting with mixing. I read a post just after the video and before I bought!! about mixing the granulated colors. It will be fun to experiment and compare results.

Thanks for the tip! I’ve never tried Holbein. It was such a rookie mistake to order this one without checking the pigments!
I think with the Pentel metallic markers it might be really cool to try something like Northern Lights with watercolor and add some touches of that pen to make it really pop!

Ooooh, the Pentel pocket brush pen! I have that one, and it is a DREAM to ink with! I love that the brush bristles are nylon, and they bend like an actual brush, rather than having a felt-tip brush pen. I literally filled an entire page in my Inktober sketchbook for one of my drawings, using the pocket brush pen, it's wonderful for "painting" large spaces like that, as well as using the very tip of the brush for super-fine details.
As for those metallic pens, I can totally see something made to look like it was done with a scratchcard on black paper of some kind. Scratchcard, being that card that looks black, but when you scratch the black off, it reveals a rainbow, or sparkly metallic rainbow underneath. I can see something re-created to look like it could be scratchcard, using those markers :)
So true that the metallic pens look like scratch cards… we used to make those all the time as kids. Yes, that brush pen is pretty awesome- I couldn’t resist opening that one! 😊

I have both of the granulating paints sets you have. I prefer the Urban set - predictably being an Urban sketcher. The Haze I’ve not really found a consistent use for. But give me time. Straight onto the Pentel site to get your alternative to white gelly roll. They are on their way. And free shipping for a smaller order which was a lovely surprise. The DS paint is so lovely and I have a few but they are a wee bit expensive for me so I buy a few at a time. I have a lot of good paint and need to use it up. Lovely fountain pen and what a lovely present for you. I very much enjoyed seeing your haul. Many thanks for sharing.
Thanks so much, Jan! Yes, I think that Urban set seems more versatile, but I’m hoping the haze might be nice for seascapes. I think you’ll love the Milky brush… it’s fabulous, particularly if you like plein air painting. I hear you about using the paint you have. There are loads of brands I might be interested in trying, but at the end of the day I’m enjoying the ones I already have. 😊

I usually avoid art haul videos as I’m on a limited budget but this had some interesting information. Do you generally buy smaller tubes? I thought it would be more economical for a professional to buy large.
Gulp. I looked the website for the foundation pen and couldn’t see one under 30k (USD) except for the small pocket pens. Thats amazing they gave this to you 🥰
There must have been a glitch! The pens are around $30. Sometimes these things happen with websites when converting currency!
I an in U.S. followed the link for US and the prices show $30-46 USD for the pens. I was very pleasantly surprised and ordered a Racing Green (British Racing Green!) fountain pen. Maybe as Leslie says some conversion glitch in your view?

Leslie, don't ruin your wooden box! If uou want to use it as a porchard box, you can tight a thin ribbon (one of these that comes with gifts) on both sides with a little nail for this kind of wood 😉

Hey, am I mistaken or did you say your Permanent Alizarim Crimson from Winsor & Newton is one pigment? I ask cause mine has two; PR179 Perylene Maroon and PV19 Quinacridone Violet.

Sorry for being uniformed, but why does a color being one or more pigments matter? I've never heard of this before your videos so I'm curious
The more pigments you have in a colour the more unpredictable it can be when mixing with other colours (making it harder to control or avoid muddy colours). I have a colour mixing video coming up this month that might help explain it better. 😊
