Syil X7: Two years later.

- Here is the follow up to my 2 week review video, as I was getting a lot of requests for it in the comments. So here is my 2+ year review! Since the X7 has changed dramatically in the last couple years, I focus less on the technical details of the machine and more about general aspects.

Unscripted video... I should have said if you expect or need a tech to show up when you have issues under warranty or after, then this is a discussion you need to have with Syil so you can both be on the same page.
I need to stop saying "ummm" all the time....

An excellent and very honest review Peter. You raised many valid points throughout the video. I have the same machine as yours, but the LNC controller. I agree, coolant and chip (swarf) management is a problem. I believe they have rectified that with their latest X7-20 model. Always great to see back behind the camera. Love your Accu-Blast. My day job is a programmer/machinist on high end machines but I’m also looking into a similar side business with a smaller home Machine and videos like this really help.
I don’t expect it drive like a Ferrari like the one at work but that’s why you pay less

Hi Peter, thanks for the honest and open update on your findings with the X7. Im very excited to be getting my X7-20 soon. I’m definitely interested in the wireless probe at a later date as well.
Wondering if you had to use a phase converter on yours? I'm looking to get a x7 but I sont have 3 phase power. Some guys claim rotary converters have issues....
@@fiberop635 there are certain specs of X5 (and maybe the X7) that only need single phase. If you don't want to try and run 3 phase, email Syil and they will lead you to what will work for you

A bunch of us here all ordered machines at about the same time.
In fact, fact your ‘install’ photos helped me immensely 👏👏👏
As soon as I can save up enough ‘spare’ cash ( slow work when one is retired 😂), I’ll order one of your super-cool Accublast devices.
I have in mind to build a ‘roll-out, wrap around’ coolant tank for mine, still using the wimpy outflow chute. One day eh?

Yes the chip management on our older style X7's leaves a lot to be desired!!
Great video, I’m in AK and starting too lean more towards a Syil. Like the idea of troubleshooting with tec support and not forking out tons of capitol to get a tec up here. Keep up the good work.

Nice video Peter! Looks like the Accu-Blast programmable nozzles are about to take off! On another note there is one leftover machine like yours for $6k off list and it would look great next to that one, hahaha! If anyone else is interested contact me ASAP it won't last long...... Hey Man.. Thanks so much for sharing the way you do! I'm looking at getting a Syil as well. Would you be keen to share the macros and post processor edits you did for the drewtronics probe?
They are not perfect or completely finished but I share everything from my macros to post processor on my website. Just google betztechnik and you should be able to find it.
Great content thanks, i am looking at buying either a Tormach or a Syil, I’m sure when you originally looked you had similar choices.
What was the reason you went with a Syil, being their non US and Tormach are ?
Thank you. Honestly I was looking for the best possible value. If I start making enough money then I can start thinking about how to keep more of it in North America (I’m in Canada). I’m starting to make little changes like that, ordering more parts and materials locally, etc. I was not a fan of the construction of the Tormach, I didn’t want another machine with dovetails and I also wanted a real industrial control.

Great update, How much of a price difference was the siemens controller?
From memory Allan, I think it adds approximately $5K to the price. That could be USD.

Hello i love your Syil do you like the siemens controller i am looking at the syil 7 20 but it has the 22ma controller do you know anything about them ? which is better siemens or the 22ma. can you let me know thanks.
Hi Robin. No question the Siemens is the better choice. Only thing that would change that would be if you are trying to make a super cheap 5 axis machine.

I love the idea of this machine and totally want one but for a few of the parts I have in mind it’s just a touch too small, in your opinion what would you buy if you needed 20” in the x axis ? Thanks in advance
The T5 is 19.68" in X. I would not hesitate to buy one of those. I know 2 people with T series. They have their quirks like the X7 does but seems good value for the money. Especially since they come with the 828D control.

what model controller did you buy, is it a 3 axis or 4 axis version
Siemens 808DA it is listed as 5 axis but one of the axis is used by the spindle (orientation, rigid tapping , etc.). So true simultaneous 4 axis machining

what exactly is "not a whole lot of money" i cant find someone mentioning what they actually payed for this machine
Honestly I’m not sure what the new ones go for but I think it’s close to double what I paid for mine. I also got a good deal in exchange for sharing my experience (videos, pictures etc).

Well, technically speaking Tormach machines are manufactured in Asia... Although designed in the US.
I live in Canada, but I’m at the phase where I need the most value possible. This was beyond my budget and what I paid was less than half of what a Haas mini mill would cost. If the money starts rolling in then I will have other options if I upgrade. Honestly it’s likely to be a higher end import machine though, like Brother, Fanuc etc. but purchased through a Canadian dealer. I do want to try and keep more of the money I earn within North America but this whole building an empire thing is tough. Haha.
