    Hey, that was a great video! I really enjoyed it. For one thing there's not a lot on the Syil, but the CAM portion really brought it home for me. I couldn't understand the big deal about the NC programs before, but now I get the big idea, and I think I will be able to use them in my milling as well. Thanks for making the video. I agree with Matthew below... keep them coming!. Ciao, Marco.

      Overtime, the post process command will be removed and everything will be standardized on create NC Program. I have about two more weeks left teaching high school classes and then my time will be freed up considerably.

    Hi Kevin -First of all I really appreciate your videos - they are very helpful. I do have a question though - for your 3rd op (milling the vice handle in the soft jaws) in this video, where was your work coordinate system (WCS) placed ? You didn't show that in the video.

      Hi Alan. It took me way too long to get the machine up and going but better late than never. Now I'm looking forward to being able to walk into the garage and build things! I'm super excited about that.
      I'm pretty happy with the performance of the machine so far. I don't think I was even close to pushing any limits. I'll be doing some capability testing to find out just how much material the machine can remove using that 2 flute shearhog.
      Great to hear from you. Hopefully you are doing well and staying safe.

    Great video Kevin. It is nice to see a machine running in real time occasionally for a point of reference.
    I mounted a gopro stick on mount on the side of the head but were the camera looks under the casting. It gives a pretty good viewing angle.

    • @MechanicalAdvantage
      @MechanicalAdvantage  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I’ll get the camera stuff working better. I preview the angle on my phone. But once you hit record, the preview stops. So I didn’t realize the spindle enclosure got in the way of the shot when it came down in Z.

      @@MechanicalAdvantage Cool glad your ok! Make some of those speed vise handles with the mechvantage logo ;-) id like a Mechvantage bottle opener! my haas one is getting a little wore out. how you doing for tooling on the machine? is there is anything you need? If you need more tool holders lookup Piotr Fox Wysocki on youtube he found some really nice bt30 holders for very little money.

    • @MechanicalAdvantage
      @MechanicalAdvantage  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I’m sitting pretty decent on holders for now. They do look interesting for a future purchase. Working in buying more cutting tools and collets now and a Haimer. So Haimer, and running my air lines are probably my two biggest priorities right now.

    • @weldchip

      @@MechanicalAdvantage do you not have a probe input? have a look at drewtronics they make a reasonable wired probe (manufactured in texas) they guarantee .001 accuracy or better with .0002 repeatability for $170 yeah its wired but its still faster/arguably better than a Haimer. they also sell a wireless one for $700 with .0002ths accuracy and 0.0001ths repeatability. drewtronics.org/ this guy also sells nice probes too but for the money i think the drewtronics wireless one is the way i will be going so it can live in the tool changer. this is the site for the other guy in nz making probes hallmarkdesign.co.nz/

    Did u add a relief cut to the soft jaws? Or are you just using a dead blow to stop if from popping out?

    • @MechanicalAdvantage
      @MechanicalAdvantage  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Amy. I didn’t do anything special with the profile. After I put the handle in the soft jaws I hit it with the hammer. They came out pretty dimensionally accurate on the thickness for the effort I put into it. I think they are within about .002 on thickness.

  • @urbancarvers8974

    Not sure if you have done this, 2 year old video… you can edit the post processor and change the Preload Tool “true” to “false” This will change the default and you won’t have to remember to check that box anymore. That post Processor was made for the 16 tool ATC.

  • @snowfarmer69
    @snowfarmer69 ปีที่แล้ว

    How come you don't always use food coolant on the shear hog?

    • @MechanicalAdvantage
      @MechanicalAdvantage  ปีที่แล้ว

      Mostly to try to keep the camera lens clear. Coolant provides some lubricity, helps to cool the tool, and helps with chip evacuation. The shear hog is a two flute inserted tool. There is a big gap between the inserts. So you don't really have to worry about chips getting caught in there and breaking the tool. If it weren't for the camera, I would run full flood on there all the time though.

  • @kevndo
    @kevndo 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Nice job, I like the machine. It looks like it’s a pretty capable machine. Just from what I have seen ,it looks like it may be more of a vmc than a Tormach. Is there a big difference in pricing compared to a Tormach? Keep the chips flying, I’ll be watching.

    • @CapeCodCNC
      @CapeCodCNC 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The are priced very close to the Tormach but you get a real industrial controller (5 choices) and linear guides and full to the floor casting, not a benchtop on a stand! They are extremely accurate and repeatable, the new ones are even made from an epoxy granite casting from Switzerland by Schneeberger!

    • @MechanicalAdvantage
      @MechanicalAdvantage  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      As Paul said, much beefier machine. Higher horsepower spindle. Industrial control options. And most things are standard and not add-on options. Plus these come pre-assembled so you don’t have to do that part.

    • @kevndo
      @kevndo 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@MechanicalAdvantage You can see the way it moves and runs that the Tormach is not in its class. Nice machine. Look forward to upcoming videos and chips.

  • @jmeleika1

    badass! question, i see you had fusion reorder the ops (post processor) so the tools were in order. can't that cause issues though? like if certain operations have to be in chronological order, is fusion smart enough to recognize that?

    • @MechanicalAdvantage
      @MechanicalAdvantage  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Fusion is smart enough to know that in a case like you mention, it can’t reorder the tools. So there really isn’t a lot of concern for checking that option. Always simulate your NC Programs though to be sure.
