    Love the fact that you can work on your own car! Labor fees are atrocious! All very practical upgrades and for peace of mind. There’s so many nooks and crannies in a Prius! Who knew! The inflatable kayak was a good addition to do what you love! Just because you live in a car, it doesn’t mean you have to suffer or not have any fun along the way! Embrace the journey, the destination will come whether you enjoy or not!

      Yes, I saved a lot of labor fees doing all the work myself, I was quoted almost $900 in labor only to install the lift kit. Yes the kayak is a wonderful addition, thank you very much! Trying to embrace the journey

    When you have to leave your dog in the car, for grocery shopping or gym shower, for instance, do you leave the a/c on for her?
    I recently bought a 2014 PriusV, the wagon, and now I know my dog and I could sleep in it if we needed to. I am so impressed with your resourcefulness and your willingness to share your hard-won knowledge.

    • @MountainSpringsAdventures

      I leave the air conditioning on during the summertime for my dog unless it's like a really cloudy day or it's raining or something. Obviously during the winter time you don't need to put the AC on.
      Thank you very much for the compliment, I'm really glad you enjoy the videos, and yes a lot of this knowledge is definitely "hard-won" haha. Take care.

    Some really great ideas here. Thanks!
    I’ve been camping in my Prius with my 9-year-old and our little dog, so the set up in the back is a bit different with two people sleeping there, but I’ve got some great ideas from your video. 😊
    Cool to see what’s changed (and what hasn’t) from your first vid.

    You are amazing. So glad to have found your channel. You are a very innovative, resourceful young man and I have learned so much from your tutorials. I have a Prius Prime and one day would like to travel in it. Learning about inverters is of interest since I'd like to Instypot my meals on the road. I am in the process of making a car tent. There are car tents sold online specifically for the Prius called Habitents but there is a back order until 2022. I will make mine and customize it to my needs. I just ordered some stiff netting and I'm going to make a screen house that fits over the back of my Prius. This is so exciting. Thank you for being an inspiration to me. 👍🤗

    • @MountainSpringsAdventures
      @MountainSpringsAdventures  3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Thank you for the compliment, I'm so glad that you have learned some stuff and that it is helpful for you. The Prius prime is great, and yes those habitants have been back ordered for a long time now from what I understand. There are lots of options besides a habitent, you can look on amazon, they have SUV tents and other kinds of shelters. Good luck with it

    Your videos are packed with information. I appreciate that. I have grown tired of some van life videos that just go on and on and on about one thing that could have taken 2 minutes....they spend 30 minutes talking about. Thanks for your content.

      @@MountainSpringsAdventures it was a 2018 SXT (most basic model). Because of the auto chip shortage, I got about $1500 more than what I paid for it new on my trade and got the L Eco Prius (also basic model). Yeah, I figure even if I don't live in it, I want to use it as an "RV" for road tripping and exploring. I still work full time but I am saving up to take an "extended vacation" haha. You and I have very similar ideas in what I want to accomplish with it. I really appreciate you sharing your experience. Maybe one day, I will do the same.

      @MountainSpringsAdventures  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      That's cool, sounds nice. I don't really know much about the new priuses. They're too expensive for me lol. Yeah to live and travel and be a nomad for a while, you need to have some money saved and find a way to make money while you're on the road. You don't need much, but it's just something I'm doing with my life right now. Good luck with it.

    I must say, The inverter at 5:21 looks really nice. Having a good, solid power inverter is an absolute, no, ABSOLUTE MUST!!!! I love tours from after long term use. Glad you’re still going.
    3M exterior mounting tape (heavy duty) is great for reattaching car trim. If your bumper edge has anywhere you can fit double sided tape, give it a try. (the tape is thick like a putty strip, not foam, and held trim on my old car even at full highway speeds.)

    • @MountainSpringsAdventures
      @MountainSpringsAdventures  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Glad you enjoyed it. Thanks for the suggestion, I've had bad experience with double-sided tape coming undone. I might try the heavy duty stuff. There's stuff called alien tape that I might try.

    • @CrankyOtter
      @CrankyOtter 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@MountainSpringsAdventures Good luck. I had some flappy trim on my old car and nothing worked until I found the exterior mounting tape. There might be more options now - adhesives have gotten really good, but I can vouch for the 3M stuff, which I only found after several other products failed & I lost the first bit.
      (The thing that is sure to hold is 2 part epoxy, I like the $3 clear epoxy from harbor freight, but it might not be great for your bumper because your bumper would crack before the epoxy gives out)

    • @Raymasseyus
      @Raymasseyus 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

There are lots of different side hustles and things you can do for money, I'll try to make a video soon about it. Basically, I've gotten it down to where I can live on about $400 a month, because I don't have rent or utilities, and I get 50 miles a gallon and I always sleep in my Prius.

    just watched a video from "The Car Car Nut" about cleaning the air filters for the Hybrid batteries. I think he said they are under the Front Drivers and Passenger side seats. He said if you clean them every 10k miles the batteries can last you 200k-300k miles.

    • @MountainSpringsAdventures
      @MountainSpringsAdventures  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      thats cool, i was actually about to buy one of those also but i cant really afford it right now, i put the money torwards a lift kit instead. what kind of hitch reciever did you get? did you get a hitch with a riser? what kind of rack?

    • @benc1927
      @benc1927 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@MountainSpringsAdventures I have the CURT 18110 , It works great overall, but I notice that when going over steep terrain or even just accessing a steep driveway straight on (instead of at an angle) then the back of the cargo rack will scrape the ground (especially when loaded) If you drive slowly then it's less likely to scrape, but since you have that lift-kit on your Prius it might be a non-issue. Mine doesn't fold up when not in use like some of the others either, so that might be a better option to rig it vertically when not used for "offroad" mode !

    • @MountainSpringsAdventures
      @MountainSpringsAdventures  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Wow, that rack even has a 2-in shank riser and it still scrapes on the ground. That's one reason I didn't get one, I read lots of reports of Prius owners saying their rack scrapes the ground. Look at getting a hitch riser like this:
      amzn.to/3yc7jJi

    • @benc1927
      @benc1927 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@MountainSpringsAdventures Yes I did look at that but one of the issues is even with the standard setup is how far the cargo basket sits off from the cars bumper already. That riser would make it stick off even MORE! Another interesting thing is when I did have it loaded with 300lbs (of oak logs) that the counterweight of it from the back would elevate the front of the Prius resulting in less traction due to beign front wheel drive. Another thing to consider when playing around with weight distribution.

    • @MountainSpringsAdventures
      @MountainSpringsAdventures  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yea that makes sense. That's why I would only put lightweight gear in the storage box on the rack like my sleeping gear, clothes, etc. I still might get one.
      Did you get a 1.25 in hitch receiver or a 2-in receiver? I'm guessing you got the 1.25 in because only a few companies sell the 2-in receiver, it's kind of a specialty item. The two inch receiver is more expensive but it's much stronger and more sturdy

    If you are a single person, you can consider remove the whole back seat to build a storage cargo. And even remove the front passenger seat to make more room for storage. Any hatchback car can be modified to be a camp car, except sedan car. Of cause a van can do that too. But van consume more gas.
