authentic, intelligent, humorous "i don't want to get skin cancer", non judgmental "i'm not there yet", creative, on and on... you are top 10 percentile on my humanity vibe scale.
That's amazing how you don't need a van at all. I also like that it reminds me of a space pod. I often lie in bed imagining I'm sleeping in a space ship so this would be a good fit. You can do a lot of things externally as you base yourself in this car such as showering in gyms and preparing the mattress and sleeping bag. That hatch body is an integral part in the success of this set up. Thanks for sharing.
Hey James! Yeah, you're welcome. With the right approach, this car works very well for camping/living. It's inspiring to reach that freedom, good luck on your own adventures out there :)
You are wonderful. I like you a lot due to the fact you pay attention to the details and share the information in specific and practical ways. I like your video and the way you present yourself and the content. Thanks sincerely.
Hey Yoyo, that's an awesome compliment to receive. I think I've been in your position before, impressed and appreciative of the work someone did. I was passionate about making this Prius thing work and it's great to share and feel that connection. Are you thinking about a project like this? I also do other videos, run this website all about electric bicycles: electricbikereview.com/
I've been watching a ton of these videos and almost all of the members of the 'Prius Pack' have dogs. I love yours! No feeding, no shedding just a good quiet guard dog! That's great! Thanks for posting!
I guess since you are so organized, its 2nd nature to produce a video as detailed as this. I've sat through (meaning "wasted") hours of people who ramble on about "how to" while sitting on their bumper, and never show "HOW TO!" (only if you can hear them over the wind noise, or a mike 10 feet away). Add to that those who just have stuff thrown in and tucked wherever. I seriously doubt if they're for "real" since I don't see how they could find anything when needed. Thanks for showing how things go together, how you access, how you SLEEP, convenience items, and with many great tips thrown in without a lot of painful "umms" trying to think what you're going to say next. You get an A+ for organization (video and living area) and for being concise!
I have a prius V though and would you suggest just taking the back seats out for when I sleep? That is what I have seen people do for the prius V's. Cheers
Best how to video ever!! I love how you have organized everything. I have seen people with bigger space that my mind would not be able to handle all the clutter.
So much info in this video. You're really amazing. I have a Ford, Escape, Hybrid. I like what you said about charging up the car battery and using 110 off it. Not sure if that applies to me but I do have a 110 outlet in my car. One thing I notice is that if something like AC is running, the gasoline engine will come on soon. I guess it's a matter of timing. So many things I can use that you do. I also like to eat the way you do. Love the refrigerator and the trifold mattress. Lots of great ideas for stealth travelling. Not so sure if I have the enthusiasm, know how, and certainly not the youth that you have. lol..Enthusiasm is growing. Thanks for posting. I subbed and thumbs up. I have much to learn.
I want to thank you for your comprehensive report on what you have learned in your two years of camping out of a Toyota. It is very easy to see that you have a high standard of living as "normal" as you can under the demanding life of living out of a Prius. Your equipment list has been very helpful for myself and my wife. We recently almost accidently purchased a 2009 Generation II Prius. It turns out that this vehicle has completely turned me around regarding the concept of gas/electric science contained in the Prius. We have recently returned from living in Guanajuato, Mexico for the past eleven years to Naples, Florida. We are on a budget that requires the maximum spending of our limited and fixed income. It turns out the our Prius is a perfect fit for our needs in so many ways. I am 6'3' tall and have found that he room in the Prius is more adequate than I could have dreamed. We have a permanent residence in Naples. We are seriously considering taking camping trips with the car on two to three week vacations. You video helped me to turn the corner on the decision to try this and created an exitment on what opportunities this opens up for us regarding travel in the US. Thank you so much for taking the tme and effort to show us your very livable lifestyle in a Prius.
Great video.. lots of great tips for anyone that wants to car camp. Couple technical details about the Prius. The 12v small battery is not what starts the car. The main traction hybrid battery starts the car. A dead 12v will prevent you from starting, but only because it runs the onboard computers. If you somehow run down the traction battery you will need a tow to a dealer to charge the high voltage battery.
Thank you for taking the time to make this awesome video. I'm using some of your ideas and can't wait to try this out. There are a lot of similar attempts on TH-cam right now, and yours is still one of the very best for detail, word flow, lack of boring parts, and lack of camera shake. Well done!
I've got a slightly older Prius(08) with my fiancee that we setup like this (but sleeps two). We live in Alaska and took it on a 3 day weekend road trip up to Denali National Park. We spent maybe $40 on gas and nothing on hotels or camp fees. This is basically unheard of if you visit Denali any other way. Either you're shelling out for big RV gas fees, or campsite fees, or worse--hotel/lodging prices. The Prius RV really is a great thing. I just wish it could house two people for more than a few days. But for just one person? Fantastic. I'm glad to see this theme catching on. FYI, you can also fit 8 ft boards in your Prius fairly easily as well. It's quite a versatile vehicle.
Clever. Perfect for touring Europe. So much window on the Prius, I would think the Green House effect could be uncomfortable. I'll soon buy a Prius V, A bit more room for a 6 footer. How people can travel with dogs in such a small space is beyond me. Thanks for the many ideas.
I didn't know what i was looking for when I stumbled apon this video but you have shown me what i have been looking for my friend. I want to combine all of this with my own ideas. I have portable heated blankets and I can make a portable solar generator to fit in my car and give everything more juice. Bring a tent if I ever want more space and boom I can live cool and free
Very cool. I am a photographer and am thinking about doing this. Was first looking at vans, but they aren’t too green or fuel efficient. So the prius seems like a great solution.
Years back, I crossed the Atacama desert several times, and I installed an extra gas tank in my 4 cylinder Ford Escort; all I did was to Y the line to the new tank, and installed a shut-off valve for it. I increased the rage to a whopping 800 kilometres, allowing me to cross with more safety and freedom. Good luck and thanks for video.
I really appreciate you. I didn't know Toyota Prius cars are more useful than another cars, it looks one bed room everything have inside. Many thanks for sharing us your experience.
Back in my 20s I did this with a Pinto Runabout and then a Dodge Charger (the hatchback compact from the 80s). It's a great way for a single guy to see the country.
I totally agree with Ricky's statement. You do pay attention to detail and your information really shed light on the direction I want to go. Thank you.
I can hardly believe how you made it so comfortable and functional - everything you need and more. Thanks for all the links to suppliers. A really great video
It's October 2 2021. Are you still traveling in your Prius camper? Are you still planning on traveling and seeing difference places, any agenda? I have a Prius camper, just passed 3 years as la casa. My friends think I'm crazy, maybe I am, but I feel freedom. I'm not traveling, coaching tennis in Southern California, parking nightly right off the beach, belong to 24 hour fitness, have the area wired as I've been here since 1968. If and when I might hit the road, it would be like leaving the mothership! Are you ever in the Southern California?
I go fishing with my Prius. Even night fishing because the Prius can act as a generator. I never turn mine off for 8 hours and it kept my food cool, provided music and light during the night time. It is an amazing reliable car.
This is great - Thanks for the Amazon links. I also bought a used Prius and impressed with its fuel efficiency and space. I was lacking the time and ingenuity to figure out exactly what accessories would fit well in it for full camperization. I think I will be buying the mattress you recommended as well as the cooler and 110v inverter. Awesome!
Wait. was the solar panel aftermarket? because a search pulls up "experimental" and 2023. I love this tho. ALSO when you cover the cooler's vents with the pillow -- it's disconnected? (otherwise fire/burnout risk) How long does it keep?
@beforedawn , I was thinking the same regarding the cooler/warmer. What I think is that at 5:31 when he shows where it can be switched on/off, maybe(?) he was inferring that before placing the pillow on it he would switch it off?? It would have been good if he did mention that he did switch it off, for those who may not think about it.
I have been batting around ideas for a long time....this helped me make my penultimate decision. I am pulling out my seats in my( paid for runs great only has 90k miles and fits my dwarf body perfectly) 2015 Hyundai Accent and hanging up my hammock inside. Thank you young man for so many useful ideas. Happy travels to us both.
@@leosullivan9228 Use soft luggage or pillow cases stuffed full of clothes as your "bean-bag". No room in a small car to carry large things that have only 1 use.
Dont block the battery bent in the rear right side. its there to cool and return the air flow to the battery so it dont overheat. great job. I had a 2012 Blue Prius III with the Solar roof about ($1,200)option. Love it, and the wife love the turbo botton. Great car, too. I now own a 2103 Ford FUsion Energi plug in. Much better than prius but, no trunk room and it weres the tires quickly because of the weight but I like it too. been to Yellow Stone park in August 2017 and LA SF and Grand Teton, where I mostly camped in my car . Did the samething. GREAT JOB
I keep coming back to this video! It's the best Prius camping video out there! I also like that you included your insights about the 4Runnerwhich is something I had been thinking about switching over to from a Dodge Journey.
true hippies are still enjoying their love and freedom... I might buy a prius too... I am from Europe and would love going to spain and canaric island during winter... Wishing you luck and pleasure...
Thanks for the great review of your Prius. Interestingly, I was looking at buying a van for occasional sleeping whilst travelling, so I have watched many videos regarding that. Then I watched one with a girl explaining how incredibly hot it got in the van (parked in Las Vegas), that she actually got heat stress. Then I saw some comments regarding camping in a Prius and that the air-con can be used, with the engine kicking in now and then. So, now I am looking at a Prius for occasional sleeping whilst on a trip. This video has been terrific to watch and help to understand setting up a Prius. It is good to see that your set-up doesn't require taking out any seats. Also, I have seen a video where some-one removed the space saver spare tyre so as to have additional storage space, which I think is not a good idea. Cheers.
I've got a Ford Cargo van and have started to think about doing a Prius V instead. I'm pretty excited so trying to visualize this and your video helps a lot. Thanks. Peace and love.
Awesome! Keep in mind that the larger Prius V tends to be more expensive, is discontinued, and the seats don't fold down as flat as the standard Gen 3 shown here. It's actually even better than the latest Gen 4 because of how the seats lay flat ;)
@@withlove1717 Bless you. I will keep that in mind and look for those. I suspect a lot of used cars will be coming on the market in around three or four months.
Thank you a thousand times for this thoughtful and informative video. I will be choosing to live in a prius once my lease is up so that I am able to save money and pay off my student loans. This was very helpful in guiding me to that goal. Keep adventuring!
Nice video! It covers a lot of info, yet moves along nicely... well edited. And, I learned that the Prius (or at least yours) has a solar panel built into the roof. Talk about stealth! Anyway, it's great to see how you maximized the use of space in the car.
Awesome! Thanks for the positive feedback Ray, yeah the solar thing is a special extra. I NEVER thought I'd end up with it and was a little disappointed that it only runs the fan, but it makes a big difference keeping the car cool and I suppose it doesn't complicate the other battery/electronics which makes repairs and service easier and more reliable :)
We love our prius'! The back end fits two adults when folded flat for a good night's sleep! We bought window netting for our windows to keep windows open on a hot night and keeps the bugs out! And you can buy an inflatable that takes up the gap behind the front seats!
Great informative video! I own a Subaru Crosstrek and most of your ideas can readily be adapted although not the luxury of having such convenient access to auto heating and cooling. I especially liked the Tri-fold mattress and will be purchasing one if I can locate the right dimensions for my car. Thanks and well done!
I love my Prius for sleeping. All-season comfort for a few dollars a night, and my own sheets instead of some iffy motel's. I put a parachute cord and toggle (like a kayak toggle handle) on the rear latch mechanism, so I can open it from inside to get out. Just a convenience and safety thing worth five minutes of effort. A bit of cord would do it, but I was thinking emergency or middle-of-the-night. Happy trails.
@@lindasue8719 Look up "How To Manually Open Trunk Hatch Toyota Prius" on TH-cam. There are different vidss for different years of Prius. You will see how to get to the little lever that opens the hatch. It even has a hole in the end for your paracord. You will be able to work out where to route the paracord so it ends up most freely pulling on the lever when you pull on the other end. In my 2013 it runs between the back of the storage tray and the light grey plastic cover for the hatch sill..
Very helpful. Always looking for ideas to try to convert my Camry into a weekend camper car. The one thing I would probably do different myself is get black blackout shades for all windows. While the screens probably do make it harder for someone to see in, I still prefer something that completely blocks out the view (in all windows). That way if you have to have a small light on, you don't draw attention either. But I do like that small cooler you have as I'm considering getting one now as it would be good for storing about 1-2 days' worth of cooled items and the draw is very low it looks like (48 watts). Over the past year I've been looking more into the car camping thing as setting up a tent is a hassle, and you're less protected against intruders, bugs, etc and it's probably a bit quieter being in a car. One thing I will say that i've heard when it comes to inverters and hybrids, is you have to be careful when hard wiring things into the battery. I still prefer to use inverters that run off cigarette lighters because often times there is an extra fuse/breaker between the inverter and the battery. And there may NOT be if you hardwire it directly into the battery or electrical system of the car, plus it can screw up your vehicle. Most cigarette lighter fuses will pop before you do any serious damage to your vehicle either from overload or shorts.
Thank you SO much for making this video and sharing all your tips! You are awesome and VERY organized. This helps me tremendously as I'm about to use my 1st gen. Chevy Volt to go camping.
This looks like an Interesting and cheap way to live. I've been researching different vehicles, kinda looking for A little more room. But every time I venture out to look at A Minivan, I'm back studying the Prius. It's A perfect car for dwelling. You can More/less have 24 hour heat or air conditioning. I wanna be A minimalist so I'll obviously be keeping It simple drinking water and eating more fruit.
My sister has had a Prius for almost 10 years. She's had zero issues with it besides for the recall on the water pump. Her door locks failed but she had those fixed at the dealer and the repair is guaranteed for the life of her Prius. She still gets 48 mpg and I'm totally sold on the Prius and I've also been considering getting a 100% electric car as well for back and forth to work. Compare that to my Dads Ford Focus that has been in the shop more times than I can count in the last 3 years. Something is constantly going wrong with it. He's probably spend two to three thousand just to keep that Ford car running, it's pretty ridiculous. He's talking about going to get a brand new Focus and I told him I love him, but he's crazy. The Prius is a no-brainer. Esp with the Gas savings the older my parents get.
I've been camping in a similar size hatchback. I own a portable battery similar to a jackery to power my electronics while I'm on the road but I don't think it's enough for cooking or heating. Unfortunately, it is a little tight for me especially during poor weather and with all my sporting equipment. Currently prefer tent sleeping to my car setup, as it's much easier to take stuff out than rearrange all the gear for sleeping. Hoping I can refine my setup and live happily on the road.
My 2005 Matrix has similar seating and hatchback features, so you are my go to videos for ideas. I’m also 5’9”. I use campgrounds across country and really enjoy my Matrix Motel. Thanks for your great research and ideas.
Karen Culbertson , I use State Park campgrounds, Private campgrounds. Once I stayed two blissful nights at the TVA in Tennessee, a federal campground. When you’re traveling be sure to watch for signs that say Tent camping, that means car camping too. If you see RV Park With no mention of tent camping then you may not be allowed to sleep there in your car. Those are usually set up for RVs specifically.
You have mastered the basics very well.......i believe there is another person that has their prius decked out RV style! I did not know about the built in solar power on the roof!!!!!!!!sweet!
Thank you very much! Your video is so very good; so inspiring. I have a Prius and, chances are I'll get another one in about 3 years. This time I'll know to get one with navigation, Plug-in capabilities, solar roof and all the amenities that I can get. I am old (74 years old) Retired Navy and super happy living the simple life. I am a nature Photographer and I make Nature videos and, yes, I want to see as much of the USA as I can. Thank you!
I have 2010 Prius with navigation. Unfortunately navigation I use only if I don’t have cellphone service. Which is good, I still can get where I want. But it not give you best rout and traffic. Some times it really bad rout compare to google. If I would buy new car, I would never pay extra for navigation.
@@agpawpaw5912 Thanks for responding. I have since acquired a 2014 Plugin Prius. I love that car. It is like driving a game as I entertain myself with driving... seeing how miles to the gallon I can get (277 so far on a 7 mile trip). I only do that when it is safe to do so, As you can tell, I can't afford a new Prius, but this one is just fine. As for Navigation. I agree with you. Even though the car has navigation, I rely on my Phone and Google to get me where I need to be.
@@agpawpaw5912 Your time is precious so I don't want to keep bugging you, but, you have inspired a thought: One of my desires (as a retired sailor, photographer and video maker) is to go across country in my Prius. The idea of Driveway (or back yard camping) is a great one. My adventurous spirit is calling me and telling me to do so. Thanks for the inspiration. Tonight, I'll be sharing your video with my thoughts on the subject. You do good work!
Have you considered removing the front and back seats on the passenger side to give you more roomy space? You could keep the two seats on the driver side. It’s pretty awesome.
Good content... especially what to eat & more importantly, what not to eat. Good job. Love the common sense, that seems to escape us, recently. Good stuff, kind sir!!
I would love some links for the computer stand up desk. I couldn't imagine living in such a small space. Your set up makes me reconsider. Thanks! Never mind I see the links. Thanks again. Janice
So you've got an inverter, why not get a small 700 watt microwave or the smallest instant pot (also 700 watts) and do your own cooking? There are also tiny AC or DC fridges that don't take much juice to run. I just set my Prius up with a 1000 watt pure sine wave inverter just so I can have some backup power for my home in case of a power outage. My home fridge and freezer are pretty efficient. I used a Kill-a-Watt to determine the draw on them, plus a few lamps, our modem and a couple of laptops and we actually have a little power to spare. My issue were getting an inverter with 4 plugs, and cords long enough to reach appliances from the closest place I could park my car. We can now go camping or take a trip and cook while we're gone. The way things are going with climate, I think it's a good idea to have some backup energy plan. My entire set-up cost about $225. You could probably do it for less with an inverter with only two outlets or if you already had the properly rated extension cords.
What is your take on the suspension? I have a 2011 Prius but also have a 2009 Camry. I feel that the Camry's suspension is much more comfortable for daily driving and long distance driving.
Very very cool man. So it seems you haven't any new videos since this last one? Are you still doing the road live in the Prius? Thanks for sharing this info.
Nice Job on the Car! I also have sensitivity to cats, dogs! Staying at other peoples homes can be a serious problem. So I converted my Subaru Outback for camping / sleeping. I have some ideas for privacy in your car that you might be interested in. Go to Home Depot and pick yourself up some Bubble wrap silver insulation for the windows. You can custom cut and friction fit the insulation in most windows. It stores well (mine slips under my bed), takes very little space (cardboard thickness), blocks all light and reflects unwanted heat. I have a few curtains just incase I need some light or to see out sometimes, it also provides ventilation if needed. For the back hatch window I use some velcro to attach the insulated bubble wrap insulation to the top of the window, the bottom friction fits. For the front window I just use the wire edged reflectors that you can buy at most automotive stores. All this stuff installs in minutes and provides a lot of privacy and is lightweight. Happy trekking, scrambling! I noticed you have poles in your car for that. Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions.
What is the brand of dash cam you use. The link just goes to a list of dash cams, not the model you are using. I am in the market for one and would like to know if you like yours. Great video! Thank you.
Thanks for this info! I have a 2015 Prius and I hate hotels! This is a great alternative for me that I never thought of. I'm also going to order those same blinds that you have.
I'm planning a similar set up since I live a nomadic lifestyle already. You've got one of the best set-ups I've seen. Awesome video, great information. Inspired. Subscribed!
Amazing set up for such a small space. You can fit more comfortably (from the video) in the Prius Hatch Back than I could in an extra cap Toyo Tundra. I just went outside and tried it. Front seats in the Tundra won't go forward more than about half way. I could handle a night or two in it, but no more. Would have to sleep in a sort of J shape. I'd be better off just buying a camper shell for the back-if I can find a good used one. Miss being out on the road. Enjoyed the video. Happy travels.
Hi Jenny! Thanks for sharing your experience trying to fit in the Toyota Tundra. My grandfather has one and they are great trucks, but I hear you about having to lay with bent waist and knees to fit (depending on height). I hope you get the chance to go traveling again, maybe we will cross paths :D
ShadeSox ... They wrap over the door jam and allow the window to go down but keep the bugs out. Also, doubles as a privacy shade since it's a black mesh. Best part, they pack down to glovebox size - you can squish them in a tight spot. Just mesh.
Greetings Again Court - A couple questions regarding your Prius. In that it's a 2011, and you've had it several years now apparently; it appears to be in Great condition (having watched it make a cursory appearance during your Santa Monica HBike Urban Plus review with Virginia. May I ask, how many total miles are on it now; and how many have you put on? In terms of mechanical maintenance and repair, have you had to do any significant work on it? How is the Main battery and the other supplemental battery(s) holding up? Are there any notable function, design or experience issues with the car that have been something to reconcile with? How much longer do you expect to run this particular car; and would you then replace it again with either a used or new Prius. Fantastic Look at your Car Camp System and Routines. Much Enjoyed. Thanks for the most informative reviews of ebikes and topics like your method of travel efficiency.
Found your comment 2 years later. I have 2010. It now 10 year old 130K mi. No single problem. Battery works just fine. Few years ago I replaced 12v battery. Friend of mine got 400K mi on Prius. Need to ask if the battery original or not. Some people say it last at last 200K
Thanks for all the great info about security ... and that cool headrest computer holder. I'm wishing I had a Prius now. Having access to battery power to run the comforts of home is a huge plus. As well as the gas mileage.
New sub here, I am stunned every time I see a camper in these small cars, and I complain about running out of room in our grand caravan lol. You've done a great job! Currently converting our minivan into a camper for road trips but you are the king of stealth with this! -Stacey & Bill
I would put a flat rack on top that totally covers the foot print of the vehicle and put solar panels covering it as completely as possible and connect them to your car battery. Free fuel from the sun. Any time you are stopped it is filling the batteries even getting a little something when driving during the day.
Awesome video. I have been living in my Prius for the last FIVE years. Mostly in Miami Beach but roadtripping around the country a lot. Always looking for new faces to follow
I want to make with a solar genartor to power a tent and chill out anywhere and have portable propane stoves to cook if I needed. Chill study and work with no bills. Meet people travel and helped others in there journey in life like this guy.
Well done video young man! I have been saving for a van and go back n forth between a 2011 chevy express 2500,4.8 to 2013 Transit Connect. After seeing a video a month or so ago that Bob Wells did interviewing Randy Vimming, he said he lived out of a VW Bug for 5 years. Now I am starting to think of ripping out the interior of my '04 Dodge Neon and building a platform bed and storage. Had it since new and meticulously maintained it and now at 215K still runs like a champ. The rear seat folds down and even me at 6 foot 4 tall can lay in the back with my feet in the trunk. I have 6 foot 6 inches of room with the front seat all the way forward. Have also considered yanking that. I'm almost 57 and retired disabled. I always feel stuck at home but I want to travel around before i get too cripple to do anything. A full size van or transit would be nice but I feel comfortable having money in the bank and just using the car I already have that's good on gas. Check out "007craft" and his car camper in a Honda Civic. Thanks again for sharing your experience and insights.
garth locklin Wish i coulda done that with my '92 honda accord, but there was just no way. Bought a nissan nv200 and, although, it makes a decent little camper, the car is built like tin can and stuff is already breaking...not recommended.
Party on Garth! If its paid for and 215k, you'll never get $100 for it so, its yours, tear it apart!! Get out there and tour, travel, pilfer free breakfast at a hotel as you drive through that town. Showers; Planet fitness, anytime fitness, marinas, aquatic center, and even a $5 slipped to a chambermaid to let you use a "logged out" bathroom before they have to clean it anyway.
By taking out back seats and building a platform just right height you can store bins under, color - coded for all your "stuff". Friend insulated the sides for cold areas, and helps with hot. Extra battery can run a fan , or maybe more. Back part of van, if build support in a bit towards front, can hold a shelf for Coleman etc, and the side left for taller stuff. SO DID ya do it??
I'm doing the same thing you are doing but instead I have a 2016 Hyundai Accent and I recommend getting the Goal Zero Solar powered battery with a 30 watt solar panel. I have that set up in my car instead of using my car battery. May be a bit costy but It was well worth get for surviving situations. I travel for work as well and was thinking about this for a long time. I copied your set up but was just different on a few things that fit for me. I plan to travel for 5 years worth of work so I plan on living in my car like you at free camp grounds or living at a co workers place on there drive way. You gave me some great ideas.
loved your video about your Prius. Could you tell me a little more about the solar panel in your roof, (did you install it) that runs your fans and inverters chargers etc, Thanks Cindy Denver
He was disappointed that, as standard, the solar panel only runs the cabin fan to help keep it cool in the sunshine. 110 V AC Inverter 11:33; modified wiring to 12 V small battery 12:03. btw it was misleading when he called the small 12 V battery the starter battery since both batteries need to have charge to start the gas engine. The small 12 V battery runs the control systems, the lights, wipers etc. The Traction battery (200 V) is used to power one of the Motor / Generators (MG1 or MG2 can't remember which) to start the engine. The cool thing is that the control software prevents (on all but Generation one cars I believe) the Traction battery from draining below about 50 % charge so that, even if the car refuses to move in EV mode the car will still start provided that the small 12 V battery is good 🙂. If need be the 12 V battery can be jumped from another car as usual.
Really nice vid man. Aside from from the cool hints and insights you've given I laugh because you remind me that the line between naturalist guy like you and a say a gung-ho infantry live-off-the-land type dude is actually only separated by a gun and just a little violence.
" The dog is cool and friendly" You are a crack up. Good ideas!! Thank you.
Ha! Glad you liked that and can use some of the ideas. Your comment made me smile :)
I have a prius V though and would you suggest just taking the back seats out for when I sleep? That is what I have seen people do for the prius V's. Cheers
I lived in my Yaris for four months. Great camping car for a tiny person. I'm not a tiny person.
Best how to video ever!! I love how you have organized everything. I have seen people with bigger space that my mind would not be able to handle all the clutter.
Hey man that dog is the right pet to have on the road. No feeding no walking no pooping.
Very informative and thorough tour of your home on wheels! Love the Prius. Kudos for healthy eating! Thanks for sharing. 👍🏻
You're welcome, thanks for the encouraging comment!
Awesome!
Very organized, wish I had seen this earlier in the year... a Prius is such a space saver.
Wait. was the solar panel aftermarket? because a search pulls up "experimental" and 2023.
Wow, that sounds pretty cool! There's room for your hammock inside your Hyundai Accent? Happy travels and good luck :D
You should really consider removing the rear seats completely, really easy to do (3 bolts altogether) and it creates a lot more space back there.
replace them with bean-bag sleepers for a get-down pad
@@leosullivan9228
Use soft luggage or pillow cases stuffed full of clothes as your "bean-bag".

GREAT JOB
Can you do a couple videos on how to setup an inverter, dashcam, and use the roof solar panel to charge the battery?
I keep coming back to this video! It's the best Prius camping video out there!
I also like that you included your insights about the 4Runnerwhich is something I had been thinking about switching over to from a Dodge Journey.
you are the guy got me started 79 and makes me feel free
true hippies are still enjoying their love and freedom...
At least 1000% better than a camp- tent setup...a travelling high mpg hotel room 👍
Thank you a thousand times for this thoughtful and informative video. I will be choosing to live in a prius once my lease is up so that I am able to save money and pay off my student loans. This was very helpful in guiding me to that goal. Keep adventuring!
DID YOU?!?!?
DID YOU??!?!?!?
Lmao
Thats my setup exactly. Did 2 months out west last year. Worked out beautify
Jack the guard dog is such an awesome idea in terms of security. Never would have thought of that. Thanks!!
Thanks Ray! It was fun to make this and share because so many people shared ideas with me, I tried to keep it fun :)
We love our prius'! The back end fits two adults when folded flat for a good night's sleep! We bought window netting for our windows to keep windows open on a hot night and keeps the bugs out! And you can buy an inflatable that takes up the gap behind the front seats!
For netting, think the "tulle" used for wedding veils. Cheap, colors ( i use green), easy to slam door, window up on.
What a great set up. Love the way you think it all out. I enjoy doing this as well. Thank you for sharing.
Brother, I love your voice and sincere eyes, thank you for sharing. I think I'm going to start car life too, tired of the high rent in California😢
Eating healthy while camping is a real challenge. Thanks for the tips🤙
I've been wondering about how to open from the inside. Can you elaborate? Thanks!
I too wonder how to do this. I get the toggle part just fine. I am also so short I have trouble pulling hatch Down. Miss the strap on older Prius.
@@karenculbertson585 The toggle/cord setup is for opening the hatch. It doesn't go up with the hatch, so no help in pulling it down.
@@fergalo6928 I dont understand how you can open hatch from inside, at all . Kasy99 gmail.
That is awesome! Really appreciate you sharing so much details on your system. I'm totally fascinated and intrigued.
That's a well thought out solution set for efficient stealth camping.
My 2005 Matrix has similar seating and hatchback features, so you are my go to videos for ideas. I’m also 5’9”. I use campgrounds across country and really enjoy my Matrix Motel. Thanks for your great research and ideas.
what kind of campgrounds kasy99#gmail

Awesome dude! I'm going to use this stuff in my Prius! I have the same model, 2015. You rock!
Hey, I'm glad you enjoyed it. Thanks for the encouragement, Lorene ;)
I'm actually thinking about moving into my Prius now after my lease is up
GermanDabs Dean did you?

Yes, last July in my 2005! with a little padding and descent sleeping bag, not a bad space with the seats down.
Seeing these creative Prius camper setups makes me wonder what could be done in a bigger hybrid like a Kia Niro or Honda Clarity.
I'm planning a similar set up since I live a nomadic lifestyle already. You've got one of the best set-ups I've seen. Awesome video, great information. Inspired. Subscribed!
Nice ! Only thing I’d change is not putting a pillow over the fridge. It needs to breath
Yeah, or did you say somewhere in the video if you turned the fridge off when you put a.pillow on top of it? :)
Very informative. You are great to watch and listen to. Thanks for the info.
Just mesh.

A couple questions regarding your Prius.

I would put a flat rack on top that totally covers the foot print of the vehicle and put solar panels covering it as completely as possible and connect them to your car battery. Free fuel from the sun. Any time you are stopped it is filling the batteries even getting a little something when driving during the day.

Showers;
Planet fitness, anytime fitness, marinas, aquatic center, and even a $5 slipped to a chambermaid to let you use a "logged out" bathroom before they have to clean it anyway.
Those are some great accessories you have for your prius.
Thank you for sharing Court! You seem to have it figured out at such a young age. Good for you!!!!!!
Nice and neat set up love your dog
Really nice vid man. Aside from from the cool hints and insights you've given I laugh because you remind me that the line between naturalist guy like you and a say a gung-ho infantry live-off-the-land type dude is actually only separated by a gun and just a little violence. All the remaining passion is the same.
Wow very nice adventures I like this soon I will do that☺☺☺☺☺☺
