- As part of my London University focus on my channel, I thought we'd go for a little walk together in today's video around five universities in Central London! This video covers University College London (UCL), King's College London (KCL), SOAS, Birkbeck and the London School of Economics (LSE). We're talking all things history, rankings, notable alumni with a few fun facts thrown in along the way! Comment down below if you want me to do a part 2 with the other London universities!

It’s nice to see Birkbeck being acknowledged here (which was my primary reason for watching)! Hoping to apply later this year for 2022 entry and haven’t managed to find a lot of info about it besides university-made content.
Yeah I didn’t know much about it until I did a bit of research for this video but I think the concept is really cool and I’m surprised there’s not more out there about it because it clearly has quite a few students!
Hi there! I attend Birkbeck and love it. The diversity of student background is one of the most rewarding unique parts of studying here, since you have many mature students who already have careers in the subject area of interest and it's great learning from their perspectives. I have also been able to work full time.

Congratulations Imogen getting into LSE! I went to King's College to do History. However, I needed help from the Disability & Dyslexia team as a disabled student. I had a brain haemorrhage meaning I have right sided paralysis and a learning disability (dyslexia). The D&D team were really helpful, they got me extensions on my deadlines, deferred exams and help from a tutor so I could successfully complete my Degree! maybe think about adding what university life is like for disabled students!

@@ImogenWhite Loved it! Their History modules are amazing! I had support for my disabilities due to a brain bleed I had when I was 14 - taken out of school - I was very seriously ill in hospital Intensive Care then on a rehab head injury unit Tadworth in Surrey though they did put me through cognitive assessments identifying a problem with my 'visual perceptual skills' they then failed to implement ANY learning support into my schooling so I just carried on with my education as normal. It wasn't until I was doing my History Degree at King's College they picked up on my learning disability when the disability head got me a Psychologist Cognitive Assessment, they then gave me the proper support without which I could not have successfully complete my Degree without their help. I got my History Degree from King's College London! Success story!

That is shocking that your school did not implement any support. Well done to Kings for reconising your disability and putting the correct support in place.

@@ImogenWhite I study financial analytics at KCL, usually go to Bush House where you got lost, and Maughan Library which is pretty close to LES, about 5-10mins walk.

Since you mentioned Somerset House in the video, it's supposed to hold an amazing skate event with fabulous decorations every winter. Due to the pandemic, the event has been cancelled this year. Otherwise, I highly recommend you to go!

Thank you for such a brilliant and insightful video of different universities in London. I noticed you mentioned both my alma maters Birkbeck and SOAS. When I tell people I studied at Birkbeck for my undergrad most people tell me that, they never heard of it or would give me a funny look because it wasn't a target school. Thanks for including it in your video. I firmly believe that this institution gives more easier access to higher education for all despite their backgrounds and so I feel proud to have studied there. My time at SOAS although brief because of the Pandemic I can say was well worth it. I would recommend both schools to anyone thinking of studying in London. 😊👍

Haha! Amazing! We have a Saw Swee Hock School of Public Health in the National University of Singapore. Didn't know his name is also present in LSE. I bet my husband, who is an alumni in LSE, knows about this. This was not mentioned when we made a tour around LSE two years ago.
As someone who did biochemistry in her undergraduate, I would be interested to see Imperial College London as well (although I know how far South Kensington is from the cluster of UoL campuses)!

Ooh okay so any of UCL, LSE, King's will offer some really good marketing/ data related courses (I'm not sure LSE have quite as many). If you're looking outside London, maybe Manchester is another one to consider or Warwick as I know Warwick has a really strong math department. Hope this helps!!

Just wondering could university of London students use other college facilities and I also heard about intercollegiate modules
@@virajsamat2374 yes! They can in a normal year you can use other University of London facilities such as libraries and you can also take modules from other universities but I don’t know much about the process for this!!
Hello. It's a beautiful video. So I saw and toured the streets of London. Measures have been increased due to covid19 in the UK. I think there was a crowd in the grocery stores and problems with the products.Take care of yourselves. See you.

Hi Farhan! Glad you enjoyed the video and found it useful!! A business course at any of UCL, King's or LSE would be really good and valued highly by employers! SOAS I don't think offers business courses and Birkbeck is for part time study. Hope this helps!! 😊

@@FarhanKhan-zs3cb I’d probably say the same! The campus at Greenwich is really nice but it is ranked lower than UCL, LSE and King’s for example.

Great video! I have received my offers and am choosing between SOAS and KCL, but as I am an international student I am having such a hard time choosing haha. I am aware that KCL is more prestigious, but I’ve heard some complaints on the social life :/ does anyone have any insight on there unis?
Depends what you’re going to study, if you want to study specific regions (Asia/Africa) SOAS is far better.
Hi Isolde, Rory has highlighted what I would have said- course first because you want to enjoy what you're studying. London unis in general have a very different social life to the rest of the UK but as with all of them, it really is what you make of it - if you put yourself out there, go to lots of societies and events, you'll definitely have an easier time making like-minded friends. On the other hand, if you just stay in your room all day, then of course your experience of the social life will be very different. I'd recommend looking at my social life in London video for more of an insight into a typical London uni student's social life!
Can you explain what the UCL satellite campuses are? I've applied to 3 of the UoL unis so any suggestions for how to go about making the final decisions? I've also applied for Geo BA
They're basically smaller 'branches' of the university which are in different cities/ countries. I don't know too much about who studies where but I have a friend on Geography at LSE and she studies at the main campus. Tips on picking between the UoL unis: look at the courses, they will be different - LSE only does human and most likely the other two will be both human and physical geography - do you want to completely drop physical geography? Do you want a big university with lots of students (UCL, Kings) or do you like the idea of knowing lots of people around campus and having the benefits of a small number of undergrads (LSE)? Location-wise they're all in London so that doesn't really come into it but I would say consider the other factors like the course and size of the university!

For doing Development Studies in a master's program, which do you think is the better, SOAS or KING'S? SOAS has a good reputation in the field of Development studies but is not well known internationally. KING'S is famous all over the world but doesn't have as good as reputation in the field. Now I am tow of minds. which should I go ? Any thought on it?
If you can you should always choose King's over SOAS. It's way better and your chances will be aplified more

The rankings will be a bit outdated as I did this over a year ago but I think I used the Times Higher Education Rankings at the time. Either way, the universities tend to be at around the same mark each year!

Ooh I’d advise looking at the financial support universities have available as there’s lots on offer if you’re prepared to submit additional applications for it :)

University of South Wales and Bedfordshire are both good universities - I'd have a look at the courses specifically and find out which one has modules that interest you more. Also depending on if you're going to be travelling internationally, maybe Bedfordshire is better as it is closer to airports!

Between LSE & UCL, which is better? (Unbiased opinion Pliss 😝)
For what subject? Both universities are highly ranked. LSE is smaller and specialises in the social sciences, UCL offers more subjects and has a much bigger student population and campus.

Middlesex is maybe slightly to far to travel at the moment (with Covid restrictions) but I'll look into it!!

Oooh that's a really tough one, I personally would say Queen Mary over SOAS for IR, especially if you're not so interested in Asian studies which is what SOAS specialises in!

How do you think qmul is ?
I actually don't know much about Queen Mary but I know a couple of people there and they really enjoy it. It's a good university but its slightly further out from the centre and where I was in this video. I was planning to do a part 2 of this video with QMUL, Imperial etc but with the Covid situation and lockdown here I actually haven't been able to move back to London- when I'm back I'll be sure to do that video though!!
