The "study through an earthquake" actually happened to me. There was a 4.0+ quake while I was studying in the bottom floor of the main stacks....didn't leave, had midterms.
+Michelle Nguyen Well there's the obvious stuff like taking AP classes and shooting for all A's (or at least mostly A's), which is definitely very important. But getting a B won't kill you. I got a B in AP Bio and still got into Cal, so it's not the end of the world :). I would say though that you should get really involved in things that you actually care about/have passion for, and aim to get leadership in those areas. I loved worship and music, so I joined the school's worship team freshmen year and was the leader of it by senior year. It's better to have deep involvement in a few things than barely any involvement in a ton of stuff. And it's always helpful to have some rewards or recognitions that set you apart. Lastly, the essay is KEY in my opinion. Make it about you, but intriguing and well written
+Michelle Nguyen However, my most important piece of advise would be to not get your heart set on one school. UCLA was my dream for years and years- and it was the only school I got rejected from. But now that I'm at UCSB, I can tell that this is exactly where I needed to be. There's no magic formula on how to get in to any school, but try your best and fall in love with wherever you end up. Best of luck to you!!!
honestly dont see anything wrong with buying yourself into a secondary education institution and a private one at that. having money is as prestigious as being smart in this world
Texan Distributist the rank changed to 1. UCLA 2. UC Berkely 3. UC Santa Barbara 4. UC Irvine 5. UC Davis 6. UC San Diego 7. UC Santa Cruz 8. UC Riverside 9. UC Merced
And to think that UCLA could have blown the scandal up five years earlier but their investigation was too incompetent. www.latimes.com/california/story/2019-09-11/ucla-rick-singer-college-admissions-scandal
FAILED!!!!! If you bought your way in, more than likely your failed out. UCB is top notch and you can't buy your way through school. If so your parents failed you and you failed yourself.
"UCSD students are UCLA rejects" Ahah :( I'm going to UCSD because I was rejected to UCLA Update: YOOOOO I JUST GOT A NOTIFICATION THAT SOMEONE REPLIED TO THIS. I HAD TOTALLY FORGOTTEN ABOUT THIS COMMENT... IT HAS NOW BEEN 2 YRS WTF I am actually super happy at UCSD and am grateful that I came here. I have great friends, I am in a project team, have had my fair share of partying. PRE COVID, I used to see the most beautiful sunsets as I walked back to my dorm from class. I now laugh at my own saltiness and sadness from 2 years ago. I came to UCSD for an engineering degree and it's not easy at all, but it's cool that I'm in a top 10 Engineering school... Just know that you'll find your place and even though it's cliche AS HELL, a school doesn't define you.
@Akhil Rain honestly, I'm not entirely sure but I think it's because she's from SD and she wanted to stay local. She came in as a transfer, just like I did.
@Akhil Rain yeah I got a friend who graduated from UCSD in biochemistry way back when. Making a pretty good living now. As for my other friend in question, I believe she's a Humanities major and I know UCSD ain't much known for that.
@Akhil Rain that's true, but as you said earlier in comparison to Cal or UCLA they don't quite have the same reputation. Either way, all three schools are good, as are most of the UC's, so you really can't go wrong.
If you are the son or daughter of a famous politician, you can go to any elite school you want. A lot of these people get admitted because of their last name or relationship to these politicians, and not based on merit.
I'm attending UCR this fall and I want to defeat the stereotype that all students there are UC Rejects. I was accepted to UCLA, UCSD, and UCI and actually preferred UCR because of the location, the financial aid, the size of the campus, and UCR just felt like home. The other schools were just not ideal and I'm glad I focused on what I was most comfortable with rather than prestige. Update: I graduated this past March from UCR with a bachelors in psychology, completely debt free. I made great connections and wonderful friends through student orgs and took advantage of the many opportunities that UCR had to offer. I truly had an amazing time at UCR. It’s sad to see that my time there is over now but I’ll always be grateful for the experience.
You won't get the connections you'd get at a more prestigious school, though. So your four years of comfort won't compare to the rest of your life that could've been better with the connections you would have made at, say, UCLA
Pudnite You can get connections at any school, you just have to go out and put in the effort to make meaningful connections. My sister attended UCR as well and the connections she made are still helping her 10 years later.
marywilder84 Of course, like they said, it's what you put into it to get what what you want out of it. Nothing will be handed to you just because you go to a more prestigious school, but it does make things a little more easy.
I did the same thing. Was accepted to UCSD and UCSC but chose UCR because they are the most generous UC when it comes to financial aid and it felt like home for me too. I know plenty of alumni from my high school who chose UCR over UCLA, UCB, and USC. They're all doing great now and have little to no debt.
UCI is very competitive in Division 1 athletics! Men's volleyball has won multiple NCAA Championships. The baseball team has competed at the College World Series, twice. Men's basketball has qualified for "March Madness" a couple of times. Many Professional and Olympic athletes train and work out at UCI. RIP to John, Keri and Alyssa Altobelli. They, too perished in the helicopter crash with Kobe and Gianna Bryant. "Alto" (Coach Altobelli) was our outfield coach and hitting coach while he was at UCI as an Assistant Coach from 1988 - 1992.
As a UCSD student, I can tell you that we're also called UC Sexually Deprived and that we have our own version of "Berkeley Goggles" we call the "Triton Eye".
Hugh Hoang I go to UCSD and this is entirely untrue! Most of us are from San Diego or LA. So many people go home on the weekend, that’s why campus is so empty. There’s nothing to do on campus or around school. UCLA and even UCB are much much much more social and lively, trust me
Haha I went to SDSU and visited UCSD frequently. Im sorry, but it was so depressing. Im surprised they didnt have nets on the roofs to prevent people from jumping.. Also, not to sound racist, but so many people are from Asian countries its absolutely wild. Its like stepping into another country
I went to both UCLA and UCSD. I guess I can't speak for all of UCSD since I'm currently doing a master's here and grad school is way different. But, I will say without question that UCLA is much more social and lively. You can get anything you want in Westwood then most of my best friends came from my dorm first year, where pretty much everyone lives freshman year. I think one needs to consider choosing universities based on the culture that fits them. If you want to do things in San Diego, you'll need a car. In LA I didn't have a car, but it wasn't needed because everything you need is right there.
First year 1989 Earthquake, Everyone at home i'm coming home from work in mendacino. The bridge is swaying back and forth. I thought I was going to die. I had to leave my 78 colt in san fran and catch a boat from a friend to get back to Berkeley to see the embarcadero freeway collapsed. Mortified;( They have since fixed everything earth quake proof!!!
Same. Graduated from UC Davis 6 months ago and this video is still the cult classic for breaking down the UC system (although, I still hate that they gave my alma matter the least amount of screen time just because it's some agricultural school that's 20 minutes away from Sacramento and is in a very small town 😂😂😂, but there's plenty of things to do at Davis such as the hundreds of extracurriculars, Picnic Day, and the fact that the downtown area is a walk away from campus for you to explore 🙂🙂🙂)
The thing thats really funny is once you get into any UC you can take classes at any other UC school regardless of how hard it is to get into admissions wise.
+xixi17 mainly fobs and 2nd generations?? dude, that's basically the entire east coast of the USA lol New Jersey/NYC/Philadelphia is just fobs and 2nd generation people under 20 years old
@@PrincessDaisyTseng UCSD is lagging but the rankings formulas are unkind to schools who treat their students poorly (resulting in lower alumni donation rates) and poor 4 year graduation rates (because no one here can get into their classes). And, of course, the acceptance rate is going up because they're aggressively expanding the school, but that's just a temporary blip. I think their rankings slide is a good thing, as they'll finally start waking up and paying attention.
+MxCP11 Or they don't prioritize money and social status the way that you do. Berkeley has a strong culture of promoting social responsibility and involvement. Her wanting to teach exemplifies that. Trust that there are tons of recruiters from hundreds of companies that target these students. She made her choice. I'm a Cal student that had corporate internship and it just wasn't for me. I will be working with a non-profit that focuses on at-risk youth.
You guy the UCs’ admission selections are WEIRD. I got accepted to Berkeley and Santa Cruz, and rejected to the rest. WaaAaaaaTtTttT ( denied to UCLA, UCSD, UCI, and UCSB)
I went to uci and this was 100% accurate except you forgot to mention the international asians here are rich AF and are all driving teslas and Ferraris
I remember watching this during application season and want to say fuck prestige. Even though rankings have definitely changed, choose the school that makes you feel welcomed, is financially feasible, fits your vibe and is a place where you can actually thrive! Fortunately, I was accepted into all the UCs I applied to and the hardest part was choosing where to go. UCLA was obviously my first choice and I was hella bummed out I couldn’t go because it was too expensive (I didn’t get any financial aid lmao) But reflecting back on my lil emo phase, the only legit reason I wanted to attend UCLA so badly was because I felt it would impress others and validate all my hard work. I just finished my 1st quarter at UCI and I’m honestly so happy!! Good bio program, hella dance teams, hypebeast/rave culture and genuinely surprised with the social/greek life here. So, whether you receive an acceptance or rejection, you honestly are meant to be where you end up!! Don’t base your hopes/decisions solely on prestige unless you have a legitimate reason to attend a certain UC. Good luck to everyone applying!
@@ragak8399 stay on top of your classes, make sure you’re pushing to keep a competitive GPA, and try and get into extracurriculars (ASB, clubs, mock trial, etc.). Speak to your counselor, don’t put it off, and stay on top of applications when the time comes. You’ve got a couple years still so you have time but I’m not speaking from this person’s experience; just make sure you have a clear cut dream school and a solid plan B and C and try your hardest to meet if not exceed the requirements of your dream school. Best of luck and try not to stress so much, just make sure you have your eye on the ball at all things academics.
as someone who went to Cal and now works at UCI, I totally agree - prestige is fine, but choose the place you’ll be happiest and make sure mental health is a priority there!
Actually, if you go to a California community college and fulfill the track for UC, you are guaranteed a spot in one of the UCs in the system. And there's always financial aid and student loans, so you can go.
Sin SinaT oh I’m a little baby when you’re going around trying to start a rivalry because you’re too mediocre for a state school? Haha must suck for you. ;)
@Kylie Thorpe , there are a lot of similar sayings: with UC denoting being Under Construction; UCI - University of Construction, Infinitely; UCLA - Under Construction Like Always; and UCLA's version of UCSC's, University of Calves, Legs, and A**** also because of the hills and the distance from the dorms to the classrooms. If you look from the dorms to the top of Royce Hall, it looks like it's 5 miles away (slight exaggeration).
You need to find a college that fits you personality wise and academically. I knew that I would prefer to stay near the ocean and that a larger school with a strong engineering department was for me. The choice came to UCSD or SDSU. I toured both and went to both admitted students days but ended up choosing SDSU because I connected with the people there better. A friend of mine in a similar predicament chose UCSD because it's more prestigious and has come to the conclusion that it is not the right fit. Don't let the prestige of a school make the decision for you. Anyways Ima hop off my soapbox.
To add to your point, you can tell a lot about a school based on how their admissions office representatives talk to you. I believe I called into UCSD's office just to ask some simple questions and the female representative had a very condescending attitude as if I should've known the answer to these questions. I mean you're literally paid to help the students but if you're going be a bitch about it, then good luck in life.
i’ll vouch for the other perspective! toured sdsu and ucsd, wound up going to ucsd because they had a much better program for my field, and it turned out great. never value prestige over the actual education you’ll receive 👍
It's really interesting watching this from time and time again. I'm currently a 2nd year in community college who's CSU bound, but I've toured around UCSB, UCSC, UCD, and UCI. Gorgeous campuses and I suggest these to anyone!
I've seen some good looking people at Berkeley. Sometimes I think it's not that we're bad looking, is just that we're usually too busy and sleep deprived that we never look our best. But whatever... GO BEARS!!!
Pro Tip to anyone planning on going to med school or pharm school Don't go to a top UC Because no one cares your school curriculum is harder than the other schools UCSB is probably what I would recommend if you don't want to be shamed for going to a Cal States by your Asian parents and friends Fun, easy A, but respected
david yang You're more prepared for actual work if you have a more rigorous curriculum. Also, many top UCs have amazing opportunities for research and internships, which will help you get a job straight out of college. But hey, it's your call. Heard UCSB is beautiful.
luckygreenstar22 I think he was talking to those going to med school only. Aka, they aren't looking for jobs straight out of college, rather they are looking for the absolute highest GPA possible. That is SO much harder at top schools like UCLA because all classes are on curves. AKA you will be competing for grades with students who were straight A's in High school which is HARD!
***** I guess easy A relative to my school which is Berkeley. My friend goes to UCSB. His tests are so easy that I don't get how people find it hard. And I don't get how luckygreenstar and 4 other people missed my first sentence "med school, pharm school." I am guessing you didn't get into a top UC
The test I was referring to was in ochem actually. Mechanism and Synthesis problems were so basic. I don't get whats harsh about 15-20% of class getting As. The more people that gets an A, the less your grade means something. If you initially went to Berkeley and got used to the workload, you would think differently. You probably got used to the easier work load. Any reputable University is obviously going to be harder than High School which was a joke.
***** I already graduated from Berkeley. Im not really bitter. Who said I couldn't handle the courseload lol. I worked twice as hard as my friend but I also learned a lot more. I was just giving my advice to people going to professional school since they will not need that extra knowledge anyways and might be wasting their time. I don't get why you are getting so defensive lol. No where did I mention I was smarter than everyone else. That was just one example. I tutored him for 4 years. He is a close friend of mine and I know the grades he received in his classes. Sure there were classes that were on par with Berkeley classes but the curves were so generous lol.
As a UCD alum I’m sad you didn’t mention the viticulture and winemaking program! I feel like that’s something super unique amongst the UC system. It really does smell like cows everywhere though …
UCSC graduate, didn't smoke or drink, kind of a proud accomplishment, lol. Head buried in books. Professor now. Did an intercampus thing one quarter to UCSB, I could not wait to go back.
@@ulayla1605 Hopefully you ran to UCSB its a freaking awesome school. I went to UCLA and had friends that went to UCSB. On the weekends we went to UCSB to hang out and party. Dorms on the beach. Gorgeous campus. You cant ask more of a perfect setting than this PARADISE>
The UCSB stereotype is the most outdated. It has one of the best physics and ECE faculty in the country. The stereotypes here are mostly true at the undergrad level.
Did my undergrad at UCSB. Doing grad school at UCSD. Have visited UC Berkeley, UCLA, UCD, and UCR. Can confirm. All these stereotypes are TRUE. (But seriously, UCSB is the best, hands down)
Keep in mind that many people apply to UCLA as a back up school for when they apply to the Ivies. Thus, many people get accepted into UCLA, but end up choosing an Ivy instead. Meaning, if you are wait listed into UCLA, you still have a high chance of getting in.
If I were to go to Stanford instead of Berkeley, my family would not have enough money to buy our home in Irvine, California. My family saved enough money for me to go to Stanford for 4 years fully paid off. At Berkeley, we paid for my tuition at 50% off compared to Stanford. So, we used the money to buy our home at Irvine instead.

I got accepted to Berkeley many years ago. I am very sure that the class of 2015 are a lot smarter than me in terms of English. In terms of experience, they have a lot to learn.
Hardest is subjective. Using that logic USC is harder to get into than Cal as well. All rankings (other than US News general undergrad ranking) have Cal way above UCLA. This is a ranking of which of the universities is the best, not hardest to get into (also to say UCLA is harder to get into isn't true; UCLA is more algorithmic and Berkeley more holistic). Cal will never be passed, just like Yale can never pass Harvard
I watched this 2 years ago as a newly Davis acceptance. Now watching it again as a rising Junior I felt so much more related (and attacked because what they said abt Davis is true haha)! I am glad I came to Davis! I love our cows and turkeys, and I definitely met some amazing people here! Go Aggies!
Hilarious. I grew up in OC, went to Cal, and came out a hippie. My husband and I met at the engineering orientation our 1st year. 30 years later, my son just got accepted to Cal and UCLA. Cal vs UCLA. My heart wants him to go to UCLA because I’m back in OC. The costs is unbelievable nowadays, but the cost of UCs is still so much cheaper than IVYs or privates. I went to Cal but my high school classmate went to UCSD. Then we went to SUNY Optometry school in Manhattan. Now we are back here in SolCal. I’m in Fullerton(OC)and she is in Santa Monica(LA). Both of us own our own private practices. She was happy in UCSD and I loved Cal. So congrats to getting into any UCs. In the end, college life will be what you make of it no matter where you choose to go.
Applying to UC as a non Californian resident and came here to check out what each school was like! This was super helpful- I feel like I have a sense of each school’s environment now :)
Almost 6 years later, and I finally got out of the library and discovered your video (Cal alum here)! This was pretty funny and accurate. The sad thing is the "fight for classes," when you're still paying a hefty chunk of change and can't get into the classes you want or need to graduate. Sometimes we had to sit on steps in the auditoriums or on the floor going out the door-- ridiculous! Anyway, I enjoyed this!
I am a Junior in High School looking to apply to USC, UCLA, Berkeley, Santa Barbara, and what the hell even Stanford lol. I live in Texas but I was born in Cali and I cant wait to return back home. Wish me luck:) I want to major as a Computer engineer
Are you kidding me? Texas??? UT Austin and Texas A&M are some of the top ranked undergrad AND graduate engineering schools in the country. The only public school worth coming to California for would be Berkeley.
Wow, this is so true! I went to UCSB and my sister went to UCSD. Our experiences during college years were SO different. I told her I had so much fun, partying in IV and going DT on Thursday nights. And yet, I still got good grades. Actually made it to the Dean's List for a few quarters. And, she, on the other hand, said there was no fun for her. All she did was studying days and nights at Geisel Library. Her fun time would be eating out on Convoy Street and going to the beach. I also have friends who went to UCI, UCR, and UCLA. So I concur what you guys said about them.
@@legacyjeetkunedo492 It depends on what you actually want to do. Obviously cal tech specializes in science and engineering and is probably better for students that want to go in that direction
John Sim sdsu and cal polys are actually good, esp cal poly SLO's engineering dept. but yeah the rest are whatever esp the "lower tier" ones that accept anyone w/ a high school diploma. Csu Bakersfield had a 100% acceptance rate
I was already married and my wife's biz is located in L.A. so when I decided to apply to grad school, I chose UCLA despite Cal also having a master's and doctoral program in my field (didn't give USC a thought due to its exorbitant tuition and parking costs, despite my daughter now representing 6 USC alums in my family). All UCs are excellent schools and they each offer a different college experience. It's always best to choose the school that excels in your area of study - it likely has some leaders in the field who can help facilitate professional networking for you for research opportunities and academic positions. Lastly, my wife is a UCI Anteater. :-)
I applied to UCLA and USC for grad school, not really intending on going to USC because of the high tuition, and they ended up offering a scholarship that made it $50k cheaper to go there instead of UCLA. Even though I was in-state for UCLA.
I went to UCLA and you pretty much nailed it... well-rounded brains and beauty and not as nerdy as Berkeley. LOL btw I almost chose UCSB. Someone told me "if you get accepted to UCLA, you go to UCLA."
I got accepted into UCR and waitlisted at UCSD before Covid. Three months in, I get a notification from SD that I was accepted. My family was like “OMFG YOU’RE GOING THERE NOW!” I go “uhh why?” but little did I know it was one of the top universities worldwide. So thank goodness I made the decision to enroll there
I also got into UCR and UCLA but decided to go to CC cus I thought it would be easier but seeing how my friend doing so well in UCLA and my brother at UCSD, I regret my decision everyday :/ People say CC is easy but it’s very hard…
I was accepted into UCSB, UCSD, UCI and UCD. I always thought I was going to go to beach in Santa Barbara or San Diego but totally changed my mind when I toured all the campuses. I ended up picking UC Davis and I love it! I feel like people don’t give Davis enough credit but it’s the cutest college town ever. Lots of trees, frat row, and so many good food places downtown and it really feels like a community. ( not to mention their vet program and med research is top ranked). If your a stem major but like a small town feel I highly recommend UCD!
We went touring UCD and they even offer students rides to and from sacramento airports and FREE buses around town plus $12 ride to/from Berkeley. My husband was impressed of what UCD offers to students. and Yes we love their campus too peaceful!
Rebecca McCormack I totally agree with you, but I have to SIR for UCSB or SAN JOSE! AND IT’S SO DIFFICULT ughdhdhdhdjdjjdjsjsjsh. I wish I got into DAVIS! I got waitlisted...
I have been to all of them and I agree UCD has a chill vibe but nothing beats UCSB, its Heaven on Earth. You should of toured Del Playa also not just the campus. Dorms on the beach and awesome surfing.
Berkeley should also be University of California Burgalry because of all the theft that goes on. My cousin who went there literally got his bike seat stolen, and my other cousin who went there had her laptop snatched right in front of her.
Lashawn Webb congratulations I live 15/20 minutes from the campus and it’s huge and beautiful the whole town of Davis is so cool because it’s a complete college town. Idk where the cow stereotype came from because I’ve never seen or smelled one
UC Schools are becoming way too hard to get into these days. I received my associates degree in high school, but I was still rejected from Berkeley and UCLA (my dream schools) and even Santa Barbara.
Yea, I graduated from UCI 15 years ago. At christmas, my sister's high schoolers found out I went there, and somehow that was super impressive to them. I had no idea even the average UCs had such a good reputation these days
@@lazysusan4692 That is about what I would expect :). It is familiar to people in southern CA, and I guess some in northern CA where my sister lives. Almost no one out of state has heard of it. Its good to see it climbing in the rankings though. Good work
UC Riverside Highlander graduate. Some make fun of inland location (especially to me growing up in coastal Orange County) but take a campus tour and see it for yourself before judging. I enjoyed the personal touch, friendly people, and being exposed to more diversity. The part after "in all honesty" on here very true! Rapidly growing, increasing in rank (#85 Nationally on 2019 US News...biggest jump of any college in the nation!), and on the constant upswing. Received a great education and college experience at the fastest growing UC for a reason! Go Highlanders!!
One point about UCI: Unlike the rest of the UCs, Irvine only gives you 4 units per class instead of 5, which means you'll have to take 4 classes per quarter instead of just 3 if you wish to graduate in 4 years, a 33% increase - and most classes are absurdly difficult.
Berkeley also gives 4 units per class. I have only ever heard of one class that as 5 units, and it was because it came with a substantial lab portion. Most classes, even engineering classes with hands-on circuit labs, are only 4 units. Many are 3 units. I have never heard of any school that gives 5 units per class as the norm. And generally speaking (based on my Berkeley experience, as well as my friends' UCLA experience) most people take 3-4 classes per semester/quarter. Many take 5 and a few take 6. No one graduates taking only 3 classes per semester/quarter all 4 years.
I've taken classes at UCSD, UCLA, and USC, all of them were 4 units per class as the norm. In the quarter system, 4 classes per quarter is the expectation. 3 is considered a light quarter.
It is almost always 4 units per class, unless you count GE's which are 5 units. You can still definitely graduate early if you have AP credits, or you can just stack easy GE's and take 5-6 classes per quarter which is what I did at UCLA, but that was just to graduate a year early
UC Irvine, UC Davis, UC Riverside, and UC Santa Barbara are all members of NCAA Division I Basketball, Big West Division. SHOW SOME PRIDE!!!!! GO UC's!!!!!
Butch Johnson is a famous UC Riverside alumnus when they had football back in the 70's. He made the "infamous" catch from Roger Staubach with the Dallas Cowboys to win the Super Bowl back in the day! Troy Percival won the World Series as the pitcher for the Angels...current UC Riverside Baseball coach now too.
Lol I go to Cal (UC Berkeley) and all of these stereotypes are actually pretty true. There are definitely some weirdos here, and going to Berkeley only makes you more weird. Students (a lot, but not all) get so caught up in studying that they don't care for conventional socializing or what's socially acceptable anymore; that, and some of them are just weird before they get here. Yes, there are a shit ton of asians; most are nerds, but a surprising amount of them are closet nerds that are very "americanized" and are big on dat greek life. If there's one thing that I can objectively say, it's that UC Berkeley lives up to its academic reputation: midterm and finals weeks are absolutely brutal. The good thing about graduating from such a prestigious university, however, is that the name does give you an edge. My buddy just got a contracted position at Amazon, with no work experience and a sub-par resume, because he went to Cal (he only has a Bachelor's)
I feel like you fast forwarded through Davis a little, but really this made me almost laugh my stitches out...literally (just had a procedure). I'm almost 40 , now but you're stereotypes nailed my friends that went to the UC's. I'm a Davis grad myself. I was bummed you didn't mention double decker busses, ski trips, pepperspray, whole earth day, or picnic day. Maybe next time.
i watched this video when i was applying to schools and now i’m about to start my senior year at UCSB... time flies man. the frat bro stereotype is sooo true but there’s lots of normal ppl here too so it works out sjshsjs
The "study through an earthquake" actually happened to me. There was a 4.0+ quake while I was studying in the bottom floor of the main stacks....didn't leave, had midterms.
Especially in the Bay Area...
haha classic main stacks
That happened to me a couple of days ago...
There was smoke from the norcal camp fire and we still had class lmao
THIS LITERALLY JUST HAPPENED AT UC BERKELEY
UC acceptances are literally the most random things ever. I got into UC Berkeley but got rejected from UCLA and waitlisted at UCSD...

"UCSD students are UCLA rejects"
Ahah :(
I'm going to UCSD because I was rejected to UCLA
Update: YOOOOO I JUST GOT A NOTIFICATION THAT SOMEONE REPLIED TO THIS. I HAD TOTALLY FORGOTTEN ABOUT THIS COMMENT... IT HAS NOW BEEN 2 YRS WTF
I am actually super happy at UCSD and am grateful that I came here.
Weird thing, I have a friend at UCLA who only went because she got rejected from UCSD
Crap ...thank god I didn't apply to UCLA so this won't apply to me lol UCSD is definitely not a reject school though!
omg the girl said "buy ur self into USC" and all the news about the college scandal. wow she knew this was gonna happen
happening for years lol...
Everyone knows people buy their way into the tops schools. You must live under a rock if you don't
Itz been happening for ages, but they just got too greedy and can't cover up the numbers now that it is just sad...
If you are the son or daughter of a famous politician, you can go to any elite school you want. A lot of these people get admitted because of their last name or relationship to these politicians, and not based on merit.
UCLA and Berkeley got caught in the scandal too though... oop

@@terencechau3077 be grateful! Applied to 4 UC's and now waiting to see if I get accepted to any
Well almost everyone gets into UCR and UCSC and Merced...
It’s sad to see that my time there is over now but I’ll always be grateful for the experience.
wow that's a great decision.always stay yourself!
4:04 When they say that Kobe Bryant works out at the ARC... :(
Reese Flechner yeah it’s sad he won’t be there anymore 😔
Rip the goat
He raped bro. Relax about that shit.
As a UCSD student, I can tell you that we're also called UC Sexually Deprived and that we have our own version of "Berkeley Goggles" we call the "Triton Eye".
But you guys are so close to Tijuana. Whores are cheap there.
I heard of that one too!

Graduated from UCSD back in 2020, I remember watching this video as a high schooler, how time flies
Only for the Summer, though...
Why am I even watching this. I live in New Zealand haha

"Buy your way into USC"
Oh honey, a storm's a'comin
I’m a hs sophomore, what did you do in high school/how did you apply to get into all the schools?? I need to know!!

When you don't go to a UC because you are not smart enough or too poor....
Actually, if you go to a California community college and fulfill the track for UC, you are guaranteed a spot in one of the UCs in the system. And there's always financial aid and student loans, so you can go.
Sin SinaT May i asked what mayor cuz I’m in a similar spot and trying to apply there.
Sin SinaT aren’t u trying to start an SDSU rivalry though? Lmao my gpa was much better than yours fuckin loser
Sin SinaT oh I’m a little baby when you’re going around trying to start a rivalry because you’re too mediocre for a state school? Haha must suck for you. ;)
supcharlie1 shut the fuck up. Yale and Berkeley and UCLA are all basically rated the same
UCSC is also called UC Sexy Calves bc of all of the hills on campus
Ah I needed this reminder, thanks
i’ll vouch for the other perspective! toured sdsu and ucsd, wound up going to ucsd because they had a much better program for my field, and it turned out great. never value prestige over the actual education you’ll receive 👍

Pro Tip to anyone planning on going to med school or pharm school
Don't go to a top UC
Because no one cares your school curriculum is harder than the other schools
UCSB is probably what I would recommend if you don't want to be shamed for going to a Cal States by your Asian parents and friends
Fun, easy A, but respected
david yang You're more prepared for actual work if you have a more rigorous curriculum.
I watched this video years ago and you don’t KNOW how much I thought of this when applying for colleges this year

This was super helpful- I feel like I have a sense of each school’s environment now :)
where dyou go
Almost 6 years later, and I finally got out of the library and discovered your video (Cal alum here)!
Go Cal! 🤓
+Parker Hudson Perry dude this was me!! minus the CE degree. I ended up going to Cal Poly. Best decision ever
Good luck I'm from texas and I went to Stanford it was hell leaving the BBQ
***** it was a really good college but its hard to get in
Go Cardinal!
"she's a 10, she's a 9..." *removes goggles* ... ... *puts goggles back on* "everything in context..."
Had me dying right there. lol
??: USC and UCLA fighting for the best school in LA
CalTech: ??
UC Pasadena lol
UCLA is far more well-rounded can CalTech.
I think they are referring to our athletics rivalry XD Caltech is undoubtedly a great school
@@legacyjeetkunedo492 the gap in intelligence between a Caltech and UCLA student is massive lmao
@@legacyjeetkunedo492 It depends on what you actually want to do. Obviously cal tech specializes in science and engineering and is probably better for students that want to go in that direction
Can you make video about steoreotype of Cal state University?
Ivy W. Li no one likes those
jeremiah Dust I beg to differ
John Sim u go to ucsd lol u don't have room to talk sis
John Sim sdsu and cal polys are actually good, esp cal poly SLO's engineering dept. but yeah the rest are whatever esp the "lower tier" ones that accept anyone w/ a high school diploma. Csu Bakersfield had a 100% acceptance rate
tubby28 ucsd is better than any csu tho lol
I want to go to uc Santa Cruz because I want to study marine biology and I hear they have a good program. Also weed.
XD
its all about the weed
I've lived in SC my whole life and trust. me. there is a LOT of weed.
It's a great school. I love it here.
UCSD is a better choice
Went to UCI for undergrad, and now I'm at UPenn for grad school! College is definitely what you make of it. Great video!
I got accepted into UCR and waitlisted at UCSD before Covid. Three months in, I get a notification from SD that I was accepted. My family was like “OMFG YOU’RE GOING THERE NOW!” I go “uhh why?” but little did I know it was one of the top universities worldwide. So thank goodness I made the decision to enroll there
How tough are classes there?
I also got into UCR and UCLA but decided to go to CC cus I thought it would be easier but seeing how my friend doing so well in UCLA and my brother at UCSD, I regret my decision everyday :/ People say CC is easy but it’s very hard…
@@earlessroboticcat7102 …
@@ulayla1605 which one did you choose I got into UCSB going to orientation Aug 11 this year.
Debating between these two. Which would you recommend? What was your issue with UCSB ?
I have been to all of them and I agree UCD has a chill vibe but nothing beats UCSB, its Heaven on Earth. You should of toured Del Playa also not just the campus. Dorms on the beach and awesome surfing.
Berkeley should also be University of California Burgalry because of all the theft that goes on. My cousin who went there literally got his bike seat stolen, and my other cousin who went there had her laptop snatched right in front of her.
UC Davis doesn't really smell like cows
Thank you for this tid bit of info. I recently got admitted and one of my mentors went here
u just dont notice cus ur used to it
Lashawn Webb congratulations I live 15/20 minutes from the campus and it’s huge and beautiful the whole town of Davis is so cool because it’s a complete college town. Idk where the cow stereotype came from because I’ve never seen or smelled one
Nayeli 1014 I live in davis too! Born and raised. Got into UC Davis as well but I’m going to Irvine cause I gotta get out of here eventually lol.
It only smells when the wind blows a certain direction. Other than that, it's really nice!
It’s weird watching this now LOL i first watched it in high school and now as a 4th year at UCLA
@@PelosiStockPortfolio I go to UCI right now! Usually when I tell people that they've never heard of it lol
@@lazysusan4692 That is about what I would expect :). It is familiar to people in southern CA, and I guess some in northern CA where my sister lives. Almost no one out of state has heard of it. Its good to see it climbing in the rankings though. Good work
skill issue
UC Riverside Highlander graduate. Some make fun of inland location (especially to me growing up in coastal Orange County) but take a campus tour and see it for yourself before judging. I enjoyed the personal touch, friendly people, and being exposed to more diversity. The part after "in all honesty" on here very true! Rapidly growing, increasing in rank (#85 Nationally on 2019 US News...biggest jump of any college in the nation!), and on the constant upswing. Received a great education and college experience at the fastest growing UC for a reason! Go Highlanders!!
Dang. Why didn't I watch this before UC/CSU applications closed?!
haha I was just thinking the same thing 😁
One point about UCI: Unlike the rest of the UCs, Irvine only gives you 4 units per class instead of 5, which means you'll have to take 4 classes per quarter instead of just 3 if you wish to graduate in 4 years, a 33% increase - and most classes are absurdly difficult.
But UCSD also gives 4 units per class. And some majors require students to achieve 52 units or even more within just 3 quarters.
"I got mid-terms tomorrow. Can't stop, won't stop." I fell out! 😂😂
UC Irvine, UC Davis, UC Riverside, and UC Santa Barbara are all members of NCAA Division I Basketball, Big West Division. SHOW SOME PRIDE!!!!! GO UC's!!!!!
Currently Davis is undefeated at home, go ags!
Go Ags! Lets win it and get to Sweet 16!!!!
Davis represent
Yaaas aggies
Go Aggies!!!!

Go Aggies!!
University of Cow Dung! Ha ha ha LOL
Davis anyone?
Found out I got accepted into UCLA, UCSB, UCI and UCR... didn’t think I’d get accepted into UCLA lol
Same, I got into UCLA and UCR and I was just surprised to get in!
UC Berkley: Stanford Rejects
Facts
XD
And the stereotype that Cal has the smartest students can be argued fairly easily: there are some fucking retards that go to this school.
GetSchanked HA! THAT'S TRUE!
Just got into UC Santa Cruz and UC Irvine this week! Waiting for Berkeley March 26 but it's a stretch....
Congrats!
Come into the trees with us at Santa Cruz!!!
So did you get in?
Congrats! Hope to see you at Cal though!
emily C OOOoooooooooooAAAAAAAAAAAAKESSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!!
OMG we are so proud of our picnic days!! Time to milk the cows haha
UC Davis thumbs up
Every UC is pretty easy to transfer into. Focus on your major rather than being so obsessed about which UC is “higher”
riverside is so dry and hot, that after living there for several years, i got dry eyes and can no longer wear contacts
i watched this video when i was applying to schools and now i’m about to start my senior year at UCSB... time flies man. the frat bro stereotype is sooo true but there’s lots of normal ppl here too so it works out sjshsjs
When they talked about USC and buying your way in-that ages well
