Stunning. If you can't source an original caseback, I think a display caseback is the way to go just to see that amazing movement. Also, this and a lot of other Grand Seiko models use 19mm lugs, so finding properly fitting straps can be difficult, but you should be able to squeeze that strap in.
@@anteneupitrathis is a grand seiko it uses the GS/KS 44 one of the best movement seiko ever made and at the time some of these movements were chronometer certified.
There's so much MORE authentic, pure enthusiasm going on here with this (beautiful) Grand Seiko than on most - if not any (!) - watch channel out there. This is exactly how it should be.
Excellent find!! Gorgeous movement too! Once it is serviced it'll be perfect! Crazy how far GS has come since then! I have a Credor coming in soon! Its quartz but a high accuracy one which would have rivaled a GS 9F. If you want to get into more obscure, yet beautiful jdm pieces check out credor! Insane values, as they are slept on by collectors currently!
Congrats Elliot! I absolutely love vintage Seiko and Grand Seiko. Great find and great choice to go with a display back! I'd love an update video once it's back from servicing!
I'm always amused when you say "stunning" because it's such a superlative most of the time, but that watch movement under the display back is truly, truly stunning. Absolutely wonderful piece of engineering to have on one's wrist.
Love it. I got really into watches during lockdown so I can appreciate your enthusiasm here. I now own a Seiko 5 Sports, Citizen Tsuyosa, Casio Oceanus, Seiko Presage and a Spinnaker Bradner.
Awesome! I've got the same watch a few years back, it's stunning! I had mine serviced since it was none functional when i got it. Works like a charm now 🙂 also got myself a time appropriate seiko buckle for it and a black croc strap to mimic the original!
Nice! Collecting watches is a side hobby I enjoy and I'm a big Seiko fan with their plethora of beautiful dials and the minimalist cases. A basic SARB033 is my go-to daily, but I'm a fan of the simple Seiko 5s and especially the banging SARB017 with it's green dial. It really is the best bang for your buck unless you're looking for the super high end pieces for a grail. Love seeing a piece with a lot of character like this, old school simplicity is its own type of elegant. I've got plans to pick up a GS when I finally visit Japan in the next year or two, just have to figure out exactly which type of dial I'm looking to pick up. Hope you get a ton of enjoyment out of your new pick-up, great choice!
hey Elliot! Enjoy the watch, man! That is a beautiful time piece, Grand Seiko's are special. Really nice to see that it is with someone who can appreciate it! I am really into watches myself and a Grand Seiko is very high on my list of watches I want to get for myself one day!
Wonderful GS. Picked up a perfect quartz SBGX291 with box snd papers for just 500 pounds a few months ago. Nothing really prepares you for the beauty of the dial. Lug width tend to be 19mm which makes straps tricky to find but not impossible
Amazing watch, and so much history behind it as well. I have the King Seiko know as the KS44 which is one of the watches that was made to compete with GS to see which factory made the better watch to then make a watch that would compete again the best of the Swiss. I need to get a display case back after watching this!
Congrats on the AD (Appliqué Dial) which is gold plated which Seiko claimed to put it much thicker than average plating. The SD (Special Dial) version (called GSS14H380-SD instead of 43999TD) has a solid 18K white gold on the indexes & that’s what I got.
Elliot, What type of stuff did you use on the face of the watch to help remove some of the scratches? If you would let me know, it would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
Hi Elliott! You should definitely consider creating a separate channel to discuss watches so that it doesn't affect viewership dips on this channel since most of your subscribers aren't interested in horology. Personally, I would love to see more of your takes on watches in general but you could also focus on a certain niche to stand out from the rest of watch youtubers.
i would say this channel is mainly watched by people who are interested in Elliot so they will watch (no pun intended) whatever content he puts out regardless of its content
i think there is a misunderstanding of certian channels, i doubt most people watch a channel like this just because gameboy but because they find the things they interesting......most people who watch i would bet watch it for pure nostalgia reason or because of interesting things they have never seen or known to even exist. a video about watches once in awhile its going to change much
Pretty cool. I am eyeing several vintage models that simply look more better / unique than modern grand seiko’s which all look like presages just with with a slightly more detailed dials and sapphire crystals
Hacking is not something incredible even for a 60's watch, it was developed in early 20th century for military watches to allow soldiers to sync their watches. Incredible timepiece!
Also, I wish people who are sponsored by Established Titles actually tried to add "lord" or "lady" to their passport and see if it works. I haven't seen anyone do it.
I’m be admired GS watches for a long time now, they go the extra mile to provide the watches with a story and purpose. Great find, hope you do an update video on this once you have the strap on.
People who comment on watches being status symbols also own cars that would be status symbols in other countries.... I wouldn't worry about that nonsense and just get whatever you are actually passionate about regardless. If you have something nice that you can strive for it's great to be able to get it and folks should be inspired to do the same with their luxuries or wants.
Stunning. If you can't source an original caseback, I think a display caseback is the way to go just to see that amazing movement. Also, this and a lot of other Grand Seiko models use 19mm lugs, so finding properly fitting straps can be difficult, but you should be able to squeeze that strap in.
I've had similar problems with 21mm lugs. Its a pain
just a seiko like many othrs.. like citizewn

Hey Eliot, please could you do more videos on watches, I’m really enjoying them.
my Dad is a huge Seiko fan so i shared this video with him... thank you Elliot! 👍🙂
I hope we get a follow up of Eliot getting this thing fully refurbished, I love his passion for this stuff.
The small star at the bottom of the dial signifies that the hour battons are made from 18ct white gold, nice find!
Love how you speak so passionately about this watch. Great video, thanks!
Excellent find! Gorgeous!
I do have a huge soft spot for Seiko (SPB143 on wrist), so naturally, GS is high up there for me.
I'm just delighted by how delighted he is. lovely watch, glad you're enjoying it to the fullest.
My dad with 6 Grand Seikos, who glimpsed at what I was watching:
That's cute, kid.
That glass back is simply gorgeous. LOVE IT!!

Perhaps sourcing a deployant clasp for the GS strap would be a cool touch too! Mixing new and old together!

Amazing watch!!!
I don't know the first thing about watches (other than how to read them), and this was still super interesting! Thanks for sharing, Elliot! ✊
Such a beautiful watch. Inside the back there were little pink crystals among the gold gears. It looked soo pretty. I'm jealous
SO much enthusiasm, man. You got a new sub. I would LOVE to see another video updating progress on this one?
Beautiful watch! Good purchase. Now I want one.
I'm not really into watches but your passion is infective. I thoroughly enjoyed this video. More like this pls
Wonderful GS. Picked up a perfect quartz SBGX291 with box snd papers for just 500 pounds a few months ago. Nothing really prepares you for the beauty of the dial. Lug width tend to be 19mm which makes straps tricky to find but not impossible
Beautiful watch! What a great find and fun video!
I'm so glad you made a video on this because I've been looking into Grand Seiko. One of my goals is to one day own a GS, but they're so expensive!
Thanks for watching

hey I didnt know you enjoyed a good old seiko as much as i do, so fun to source polish up, the quality of that era of watches was unparallel
I have now a hyper-fixation for watches thank you! Just ordered my first watch A Lorus Y676-X045 as my first Automatic watch.
This video has me liking watches alot more than i already did 😮😂😂
Grand Seikos are beauties. im a big fan of their newer themed dial watches

That was definitely swag even in a time where everyone wore watches. I can imagine even Mr. Gunpei Yokoi wearing this watch at one time.
More watch content 🗣️
When I had manual wind watches, I forgot to wind them so often. I probably rarely had the correct time as a child. 😂
Hello, thanks for your video. Where did you get the caseback from? Also, the strap? They look great !
Great watch, the watch was cool too
Yaaaay! Watch videos!!!
What a find.
I'm sold
Thank you Lord Eliot
Nice Video Elliot.
I love mechanisms like that. Now I have to find a channel where someone builds them.

What was the cleaner you used to clean the crystal front? I have some older watches i wouldnt mind trying to restore
polyWatch, usually comes in a small white tube

if badly scratched, lightly use wet&Dry from 600 to 1200 grit, then autosol metal polish and finally Polywatch to make it shine.

It's more about the finishing and the movement plus also the dial
What knife is that?
Nice very good choice

also i think that it should have a quick set date, this movement also had a unique feature giving user an ability to go backwards when setting date
Gorgeous
You should also try seiko musical clocks I got one that plays disney songs.

Sekiro?
That is super sexy. The watch I mean. 😂😉😁 The clear plate on the back was my favorite part and really adds to the awesomeness.
WATCH it carefully 😃
Aftermarket crown as well. Production of the watch started in 63' so your watch is not from 1960.
Also, I wish people who are sponsored by Established Titles actually tried to add "lord" or "lady" to their passport and see if it works. I haven't seen anyone do it.

One always tells oneself that you won't buy anymore watches... Never works...
Grand Seiko isn't Seiko's most prestigious brand. Cedor is.
I can't tell if you mean credor or what lol
Grand Seikos are great
It's in the name, after all.

You mean to tell me I'm not really Lord Sampson?
I beg to differ mere peasant!! Lord Barry’s manuts in your mom owns one square foot and a small tree with an army of Scottish red ants !!
