    Loved the history of Seiko, Thanks. Back in 1969 when I was 16 years old I bought my very first new watch. It was a Seiko 5. Over time it stopped working but I kept the watch for sentimental reasons. Earlier this year I had complete service and repair done for $275. Even the watch repair guy said I can buy a nice new Seiko for that price. I'm glad I had this watch repaired. I do own Omegas, Rolex and others but this 50 year old Seiko holds a special place in my heart.

    You know why people love Seiko? because it stayed true to its brand mission and vision unlike other brands that try to sell you Status, Luxury or Investment, Seiko just sells you Good Quality & Affordable watches that anyone can wear. The answer the NEED of people for watches not the WANT aspect.

    My mom has 11 Seiko watches. I just thought she had watch issues. I had no clue there was an actual reason she loved them so much. This was pretty interesting.

    My first Seiko is a Pogue with the gold face. Two more with one the automatic dive watch with a dark blue dial. Another good video. I've been watch a lot of YT reviews on watches (during these SIP times). I've noticed most tend to be about luxury brands (Rolex, Omega, AP, JLC, Patek, etc). It's so refreshing to see someone talk about more affordable brands. I bought my second Seiko last month (SARB03) and am loving it. I bought my first one 25 years ago back when I was very young that thought it was time to buy my first big boy watch. It has been sitting in a drawer since '05, but it still works. I had the battery replaced and the it works like the day I bought it.
    Keep up the good work. You definitely take a very balanced approach to your presentations without a hint of snobbery or snark, which is more rare than I first thought.

    • @jakekaywell5972
      @jakekaywell5972 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes and no. Regarding quartz technology,
      The Swiss were the first to develop a quartz wristwatch movement (the BETA 1) and Longines was the first to make a quartz wristwatch with the Ultra-Quartz. However, Seiko was the first to bring a quartz wristwatch to market, so they get all the credit. The Seiko Astron was also a luxury piece, meaning it wouldn't be until 1972 that Bulova's Accuquartz would be released, which was the first mass-market quartz watch.

    Great video and really interesting history! Loving my new Seiko 5 SNK793, it’s the first watch in my collection as a college student 👍👍

    Seiko was the favorite watch of American soldiers in Vietnam because they handled the rain and humidity well.

    Great video Teddy-always enjoy your take. Would have loved a nod to Seiko's short lived, but interesting Elnix line. I picked up an Elnix SG (0723-6010) with a beautiful green gradient dial in the early 70s-still have it and just recently found another version to add to my collection.

    My dad owned a Seiko, loved them then and still do to this day. Think I have at least 4 but most collectors have a lot more!
