    Extremely timely (no pun intended) and useful video with the incredible growth of vintage GS in the auction scene!

    Very informative and this gave me the confidence to buy an all original piece from the seller you have mentioned. Thank you!

    Not sure if been mentioned but the 'H' in Hi - BEAT has the horizontal bar lower in the 'Good' redial than the original dial!

    The dial should match the condition of the rest of the watch. If the case is worn but the dial is perfect you might have a problem, though not always. If you want to play it safe, light patina. I also appreciate a hand painted redial, i’m not kidding - there’s a real charm to a watch that tells you what it is.

    Is the flat top A a rule for all GS dials or just this model? Also, nice shirt! do you know where I can find one!?

    Great video. Very useful and very interesting. I hear what you're saying about damaged dials being better than redials, and mostly agree. However I don't agree with the idea that only objects that are completely original are worth owning. Things that are old and have been used and maintained will typically not be completely original. A 6105 that was regularly serviced may have wrong & non-original hands that seiko provided for service after they ran out of original hands. It's normal to replace crystals with modern aftermarket crystals that are not exactly same as original, and seiko provided lots of spare parts that didn't exactly match original parts. If Bob from Ohio could make a perfect dial, I'd probably rather have a watch with Bob's dial on it than a really bad original dial. Objects that have been used and maintained and are no longer original are just as 'real' as a watch that came out of the factory, got used for a couple of years and then put aside and forgotten about for 50 years.
    It's very disappointing to buy something you think is nice and original and discover that it's fake when you have it in your hand. But if a watch has isn't completely original, as long as you understand what you're getting, I don't think that it not being fully original is necessarily bad. I'd rather own something that was used and maintained or repaired and lost some originality in the process than something that had never been used and has had no work done on it after it left the factory. Some old watches are basically so bad they're junk. If somebody can put a reasonable after market dial on them and make them into a decent watch, more power to them.

    Verry helpful tutorial. Unfortunately most of the vintage Grand/King Seikos on the market - especially the surprisingly affordable ones are redials.

      not sure where you’re getting this, i buy direct form japan and most have some amount of patina, sometimes heavily. I’ve looked are hundreds and own a half dozen. I would assume these are watches on international markets like ebay or chrono24

    Well said and totally agree! I believe some folks out in South Korea do some crazy overhauls, including non-OEM colors that fetch a pretty penny; I'm sure that blue example in the video is one of theirs. Your watch is gorgeous by the way, especially on that bracelet!

    Educational but I preferred the sunburst and the color of the modded watch. The ink was definitely not as crisp; too much, too wet, or simply wrong font. That said the overall look of the redial was superior.

      45GS was sold on black crocodile straps only. The bracelet I use is from vintage Grand Seiko Special that was made a few years after 45GS

    Very interest and useful video! By the way, do you know the meaning, or difference, between “R” & “T” after 8000, such as “8000T” and “8000R” in addition to the design of letter “A” ? Maybe manufactured by a different factory etc ?

    There are pictures of Grand Seikos in old Seiko catalogs that clearly have dial codes printed above the minute markers, so why do you say that a dial code above the minute markers indicates a redial?

    • @QuartzCrisis
      @QuartzCrisis  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      It depends on a model. Different GS models have this text in the different places. For example: 4522-8000 has it below minute markers
