Developing Super Mario Advance 5 - Super Mario Bros. in 2024 - Making the Toad's rescue scene

- And we have advanced in the development of the fan game! Another video showing some of the development moments of "Super Mario Advance 5 - Super Mario Bros." a reimagining (not 100% the same) of what Super Mario Advance 5 would be like on the GBA. This time the Toad rescue scene in the first world castle. I simply transformed the object that is the bag into Toad and made another object clone the bag sprite so that the image remained in the game. While the bag (now Toad) moves by jumping, the other only performs the animation activity of the bag untying itself.
Most of the time in the video I'm trying to synchronize Toad's movement and jump time to look very similar to the original. It's not 100%, I'd say it was 99% close. And in Toad's code, the same code as Poplin (from Super Mario Wonderland) jumping is present, just with the changes made in the video.
Oh and I already updated the animation sprites of Mario kicking XD
And don't worry, more changes and corrections will be made.
The next step will be to make the iconic text "Thank you Mario! But our princess is in another castle" and the part where the time clock empties. And soon there will also be an extra scene that I don't know if it will work or if it will be developed in the next video, but I will test it.

The NSMB-like checkpoint effect is really fitting considering that Advance 5 turned into New Super Mario Bros..

@@newsuperbowserworld NSMB was originally supposed to be a fifth entry in the Mario Advance series, however, doing the development of the game it was moved to the DS and evolved into New Super Mario Bros..

Also New Super Mario Bros. it is totally inspired by Yoshi's Island from SNES. It has a lot of influence present in the game. In a way making it clear that after the game "Yoshi's Island", New Super Mario Bros. would be Super Mario Bros. 6

When I was working, I came by on my friend's cell phone and saw your comments. I already fixed it! Thanks for letting me know. This detail went completely unnoticed by me. Just the sprite of Mario's victory pose that I was about to correct.

One more thing to improve, Mario's Kick Animation & Crouch Animation as it was the sprites from SMB3.
I like how here the fake Bowsers reveal themselves even if they die from lava.

I know. I am not a professional programmer. So unfortunately I won't be able to do something perfect, but the game is looking ok. I know that many fans will demand that I improve something when a demo is released, but I also have my limitations as a programmer. XD

This is so cool, everything on your channel is. Now, will this actually run on the GBA, or is just made in the style of a GBA game? Also what software are you using to develop it? I'd love to do something similar, like maybe Super Mario Kart on the Gameboy Color. I had a dream about that existing, and have wanted it to be a reality ever since.
It's a good animation suggestion. And yes, it is a fan game imitating GBA. It's because I thought of all the GBA details to put into it, so it looks a lot like something from the portable.

2:10 I notice you are using an old version of Windows or a more recent version with classic theme, what OS is it?
I'm actually using the XP basic theme because it's more basic for running the game and recording.

9:43 i like the sprite change but i think mario looks a pixel lower than normally. soo can you make it a pixel taller to match the big mario sprites

You can imagine what it would be like. I'm trying to imitate the GBA in every possible way, even though I don't fully know its limitations.
I understand that this is a non-profit work, but no matter what, Nintendo is a very strict corporation with a large DMCA team, purposely taking down several Nintendo fan-projects and totally disrespecting that they're not-for-profit.
So if you want any chance of legally utilising one of Nintendo's IPs (Super Mario no less), you gotta pitch your concept to Nintendo of America.

you don't have to but it would be awesome
Unfortunately not. It is difficult to change colors like what happens in official games. To do this, you would have to repeat the same sprites many, many times with different combinations, which would result in much more work.

Super Mario All-Stars Advance was just an animation. Both projects are separate. Unfortunately I don't know how to do anything multiplayer, since it involves an online server nowadays.
can u lock levels and when a level is finished u can progress to the next level
It will be like this! But the level spaces will look the same as they do in SMB3, with the exception of secret locations.

It's already fixed! It's a difference I almost didn't notice. I'm uploading a new video that shows the corrections made. Even though I'm not logged into my account here, I still look at the comments on a friend's cell phone. That's when I saw comments talking about Mario's animation.

I left the information in the video... it's a fan game for PC. It was made from scratch! It was born as an animation but I decided to turn it into a fan game.
